I aasume the elect Obama-08 campaign paid for this ad. Check the facts of the offshore oil drilling. He has a terrible energy plan and all economist agree. If you put higher taxes on products then the consumer will be forced to pay that tax. Ethanol from corn is not the answer either. CORN BASED ETHANOL RAISES PRICES FOR EVERYONE AS WELL. CORN IS IN ALMOST ALL PRODUCTS EVEN PAPER.
As far as rdoundas high road comments, any white senator that keep the friends and company Obama did would have been asked to resign. His church is racist, his former buddies have ties with terrorist. Remember "birds of feather flock together".

uh i am an economist and half of what your saying isn't support by mr. obama and the other half is completely unbased on fact. Actually most economist seem to think mr. obama's plan for the economy is much more feasible and will leave us better off in the long run.

      jgreene,
Nice cliché, but you did not answer the question, instead you point to Obama relationships, not the man himself. News flash, not everyone you meet is straight forward and honest or worth knowing. The argument you are trying to make has some obvious flaws. For example, are you suggesting that everyone, even most of Obama???s friends are racist or have ties with terrorist? Of course not. You are cherry picking. McCain himself sought the endorsement of a preacher who sounded quite racist. Did McCain drop out of the race? Now as for your cliché, you seem to be suggesting quite strongly that Obama is a racist and a terrorist. You make this godly judgment of Mr. Obama based off what actual physical actions/statements of Obama? Has Obama demonstrated even once that he is a racist -- does he make racist remarks? Has he been caught making a bomb in his garage? The fact is, you point to some people he has known in the past that fit what you want to hear. The truth is if you were looking in the mirror, you would see quite clearly who the racist is -- YOU. Perhaps you should read the last part of your statement again -- Obama is a racist and a terrorist. Who makes that type of comment other than a racist?

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 07/31/2008 2:15:49 PM

      You must be thoroughly confused.
Ethanol can be made from a lot of different things; not just corn. Ethanol doesn't raise the price of everything. We aren't running out of Ethanol or Corn.

Oil and Gas are what are running out. This is because they are non-renewable resources.

Since 2000, corn prices have gone up 50%. Some of that has to do with the increased cost of fuel needed to deliver fertilizer and transport the corn. In the same period of time gas has shot up over 200%. Corn is not in near as many products as petrolium is, and everything is transported with fuel.

Since we are in an oil based economy it is oil and gas that drive prices up.

Actually, the ad is correct. Obama did say he wanted to raise taxes on energy. You even admitted it in your piece: ???once ??? and only once so far as we can find???. He said it ???once???, still means he said it! You are the one who is misleading and actually prove exactly what McCain???s ad is trying to show. Obama is a celebrity figure in the eyes of this obviously liberal bias reporting, and he can do no wrong! If someone dares to challenge him or exposes a weakness, you jump all over that person/s. I was on the Obama bandwagon at first, but in the last few months this coverage has disgusted me and McCain???s exposure of Obama???s constant changing positions has sold me. Mark me down for a swing voter who has now switched to the McCain side. Believe me, there will be more to follow!

    • Posted By: Makduras331 @ 07/31/2008 4:00:58 PM

What exactly did McCain expose again?? Did you actually read the article or did your mental retardation not allow you to do that?

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 07/31/2008 3:09:29 PM

Even if you want to take the statement out of context, McCains Ad said ELECTRICITY not DIRTY ENERGY. For it to just be out of context he needs to say DIRTY ENERGY.
Coal generates about 50% of our electricity. If you assume that all coal plants are dirty, then that's still only 50%; not ALL electricity. (But then perhaps we should clean up our coal plants, huh?)

  • Posted By: Debunked! @ 07/31/2008 2:00:18 PM

I am almost in tears laughing at the many posts of people complaining about "McCain's negative campaigning" HELLO----------This is what happens during elections! Things get dirty and ugly. The ads McCain is running now will seem like ABSOLUTELY NOTHING compared to what's coming Obama way after he is crowned the nominee. All of the Anti Obama groups and 527 are all coming out of the woods and are going to attack the Rock Star all at once!

Obama supporters, instead of whining about the negative ads, perhaps you should send some suggestions to your candidate on how he can effecitively respond to the ads!!!

    • Posted By: fishergran @ 07/31/2008 2:05:05 PM

John McCain promised his campaign would be different from previous campaigns. Political campaigns do not HAVE to be dirty. They could be run in a way that limited talk to what each candidate is proposing to do if elected and stick with their ideas for better governing. That would be a real different campaign and one the people could actually believe in. John McCain is getting desperate and he is using the same old Bush/Rove techniques. We are tired of that method. Enough already.

      • Posted By: Debunked! @ 07/31/2008 2:23:42 PM

And Obama promised plenty of things as well so what is your point? And actually, I don't recall hearing McCain say that he would NOT run attack ads on Obama.

McCain is running against the International Pop Star!! McCain's camp understand that it will be a task bringing Obama down and a pretty good way of bringing him down is to continue to hammer Obama. How do you think Obama was able to do as well as he did in the primaries, he had to bring Clinton down. Of course, he is too suave to do it himself. He allowed his surrogates, campaign staff and media do his dirty work. McCain is just returning the favor.

Obama is using and have used Old Style politics to get to where he is and McCain is doing the same thing! The only thing is that Obama is so smooth and suave with his and McCain is more IN YOUR FACE but if it wasn't an IN YOUR FACE approach, McCain wouldn't get the response that he needs to to help take Obama down!

You talk about Rove techniques, what about Axelrod's techniques-------are you tired of that method as well?

Obama is going to get exactly what the media, his campaign and supporters and surrogates gave to Clinton. What comes around goes around!

        • Posted By: metzlerd @ 07/31/2008 3:58:30 PM

          Excuses, excuses.
It wasn't Obama that was fighting dirty during the Primary. It was the Republicans playing the two sides off of each other. They as much as admitted it and gigled gleefully about it.

Do you think Obama was calling himself a Muslim? Do you think he accused himself of representing Rezko? Do you think he accused himself of being a terrorist? These ads speak for themselves. We all know who's doing it. Give me a break!

        • Posted By: AskPlus @ 07/31/2008 2:27:48 PM

          So sad.

This kind of negative campaign gets this kind of reporting:

          • Posted By: Debunked! @ 07/31/2008 2:32:35 PM

Oh please, this article is comical! Why don't you just post a anti McCain ad that came from the Huffington Post!

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 07/31/2008 3:51:18 PM

You may be in tears, but you aren't laughing at all. If you were you wouldn't be feverishly posting here trying to convince people that the ads are OK, and to be afraid of Senator Obama. Republicans use fear, and out of fear they'll try to get you to vote for McCain.

And when McCain shows that he's a sleazy slick talkin' liar, you'll be afraid that others will see it too.

    • Posted By: Mimi13 @ 07/31/2008 2:49:52 PM

      A) Obama IS responding just fine to the lies in the McCain ads. The silliness will take care of itself.

      B) McCain promised not to conduct a negative campagn. The increased mud-slinging speaks directly his lack of veracity and integrity.

  • Posted By: smokiejoe51 @ 07/31/2008 2:32:34 PM

I think the whole thing should boil down to believing in our fellow man. Obama did not even care about the soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan when he went on his whirlwind tour to show how he knows nothing about foreign matters. Lets hope the good people if the United States see through this man. Who really knows is the worst of 2- evils as the saying goes.

    • Posted By: raddave @ 07/31/2008 3:57:57 PM

Obama did care about the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. He visited with them while he was there.

    • Posted By: Mimi13 @ 07/31/2008 3:12:57 PM

Patently untrue and mean spirited. Obama spent a great deal of time with the troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan. There are no pictures of him with injured soldiers and no official press reports -- because he considered these visits non-media events -- but reporters have documented that these visits were made. There are numerous photos and footage of Obama talking with soldiers, eating with them, playing basketball with them. He also showed a considerable understanding of the situation on the ground in his discussions with generals and world leaders. Posting something so easily disproved is counterproductive.

  • Posted By: befair @ 07/31/2008 1:32:26 PM

I wonder what would happen if people stopped falling for comments made by people like Tucker Carlson, who is determined to keep calling Obama the Messiah or Jesus. It is sad to see him become a has been but that is exactly what he is. Barack Obama is a flesh and blood human being just like the rest of us and he has a humble heart. He truly cares about the needs of his fellow americans and maybe, just maybe enough people will be able to wade through the muck and find the sensible message and workable solutions that he offers the country. I remember how the republican party went weak in the knees when Pres. Reagan gave his lofty, inspirational, " It's morning in America" speeches, they were so good I, a life-long democrat voted for him. Those who try to make Sen. Obama's ability to reach people with the message of hope must have forgotten how they felt about Reagan. Why is the republican party working so hard to convince the voters that they should have no hope for america. It seems to me hope is what gets most of us out of bed in the morning. If we do not hope and believe for a better world then we will be left with no way to move forward.

    • Posted By: fedupwlibs @ 07/31/2008 3:52:14 PM

As a Republican, I have all the hope in the world for our country. I just don't happen to believe that socialized medicine, higher taxes, etc. are the way to improve our way of life.

Just because someone has a lot of charisma doesn't mean we should follow them (JIm Jones, David Koresh, etc. - I'm not comparing Obama to them in any way other than the abundance of charisma). I'm conservative, and even I feel "inspired" listening to his pretty speeches, but I disagree with many of his policies, which is why I would never vote for him.

John McCain has flip flopped so often he has now flip flopped on his promis to run a clean campagne. It should now be plain to see by anyone who can think for themselves that John McCain is running the same type of campagne as George Bush becuase he is of the same mind set as George Bush and would be the same type of President as George Bush.

    • Posted By: fedupwlibs @ 07/31/2008 3:42:09 PM

Is that because George Bush is the only candidate to ever run a negative ad? You'll have to help me here because apparently I can't think for myself.

  • Posted By: chizucc @ 07/31/2008 1:23:19 PM

Republicans kill me. You complain about the liberal media soo much. The media is so unfair to McLame. It's funny I remember during the 2000 GOP primaries you guys were calling McCain a liberal among other things including the father of a half black child. Now he's the most conservative person in the world. McCain is epitome of a flip flopper. It's easy to forget that when you have a great politician outshining him. Keep it up GOP. The more you hate him the more we love him. Go Obama!!

    • Posted By: fedupwlibs @ 07/31/2008 3:40:02 PM

McCain may not have been my first choice for the Republican nominee, but since he's our pick, I will stand behind him 100%. Even if he's more liberal than I would like, he's FAR LESS liberal than Obama! So my choices are: A) Vote for Obama (never) B) Stay home and pout because my candidate didn't get the nomination, thus giving Obama a vote (again, never) or C) Support the candidate my party chose, even if I don't necessarily agree 100% with everything he says or does.

      I think I'll take C.

I am so sick and tired of the ignorance with theis yeas political race. People, readers, politicians act like a bunch of school age childre! The annointed one the messiah, such ridiculous comments. Ignorance also includes the media that continues to perpetrate the spoken words out of the mouth of many. Obama is curious to many, and people believe his message rather right or wrong. I was an undecided voter, But I refuse to support people that continue to bash Obama with idiot statements as well as have a campaign call him a rock star or stupe so low to put him in the same conversation as a Brittany Spears or a Paris Hilton, if you are going to challenge discuss what makes sense the issues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not this bull......................... When Clinton ran for office, his popularity was over the top also. Was the right wing calling him a rock star also. Wake up people, this is politics as usual. Stick to facts. Face it this man is popular because he is bi-racial of African and Caucasian descent and he is making history, does this make him a rock star, the messiah or the other idioctc statements that are continuing to be heard on the airwaves. This is biggest bunch of crap..................... I Deal wkth issues, fight and challenge on issues McCain not this bull............................

    • Posted By: fedupwlibs @ 07/31/2008 3:25:10 PM

It's funny that if someone on the right mentions Obama's race, we're playing the race card, but if someone on the left brings it up it's because he's making history. Which is it? Racism is racism whichever side it comes from. I would never make race an issue in my voting decision. My decision is based on which candidate is most aligned with my views and is the best person for the job.

i love how they call it "factcheck.org" , yet in EVERY single piece they write, its LOADED with opinion.

Obama stated he wants to tax energy more. Doesn't matter where its going (education) or what context he said it in, he said it, he believes it, its what he wants to do when president.

i'd say the Mccain ad got its facts correct.

    • Posted By: cunninjo @ 07/31/2008 1:22:42 PM

      You are WRONG!

Come out of your 8-second sound bite world and look at what he really said. He meant that if there was to be a tax on energy, he would rather it be on dirty energy vs. clean. He never said that was his plan!

      • Posted By: fedupwlibs @ 07/31/2008 3:15:23 PM

Wouldn't it have been better, then, to say that he didn't plan on taxing energy?

  • Posted By: rjs564z @ 07/31/2008 2:08:53 PM

I am sure that if Obama wanted to his campaign could run plenty of diry on McTurd. Some that come to mind: Keating Five, McShame's treatment of first wife, Audultry with Cindy , Cindy McCain's drug usage. Good stuff to drag out of the closet.... That McCain is a real saint.

    • Posted By: Debunked! @ 07/31/2008 2:38:36 PM

I WOULD LOVEEEE to see Obama go that route! This way McCain or his surrogates can hit hard on Rezko, Obama's drug use and the allegations surrounding Obama's alternative lifestyle (down low) and the allegations surrounding Donald Young and his murder, Larry Sinclair and the rumors surrounding his REAL twenty year relationship with the infamous Rev Wright. And if Obama tries to go after Cindy, the GOP will REALLY have a field day with Ms. Anti America herself, Michelle Obama!

This is NOT a road I think Obama or his campaign wants to go because I can guarantee you that his opposition is hoping and praying he goes there so they can REALLY sock it to him!

      • Posted By: metzlerd @ 07/31/2008 3:15:11 PM

        Yeah right!
If you people have already gone down that road how is that a threat! We've been hearing all that stuff for months!

Obama never attacks his opponents - he defends himself and adds true statements about his opponents that shed light on their positions in response to their negatives. He's above that because he's winning. He chooses to think like the winning candidate and visualizes that for himself, and it seems to happen.

    • Posted By: fedupwlibs @ 07/31/2008 3:12:38 PM

I see...so as long as he's "adding true statements about his opponents" it's not an attack. So by that logic if someone uses a racial slur or insults a person's appearance, it's only an attack if it's not true. Or if the other person started it.

So if I visualize myself driving a Porsche, it will happen?

  • Posted By: seldumonde @ 07/31/2008 10:59:00 AM

A quick look at the factcheck.org website shows it is clearly a partisan site devoted to disproving McCain's alleged smears of Obama. Newsweek once again portrays a biased opinion as if it were neutral.

How about covering some of the smears made by Obama people? Like the blatant distortion that McCain wants to keep troops in Iraq for 100 years? Or the constantly repeated and completely fallacious claim that tax cuts only help the rich? Or Obama's massive litany of lies about his past, his associations, and more? Once Newsweek shows some of that, they may appear to regain some credibility.

    • Posted By: AngusAustin @ 07/31/2008 12:29:05 PM

McCain did say exactly that we could be in Iraq for 100 years. His tax policy will be largely beneficial to the rich and scarcely beneficial to the middle class and below. I find it is best not to talk about subjects you only know superficially about. There's plenty of research you can do right here on your computer. I suggest you do next time.

      • Posted By: fedupwlibs @ 07/31/2008 2:59:48 PM

McCain said that we could have a US presence for that long, not that we would be in a war that long. We still have military bases in Germany and Japan sixty years after the end of WWII. There's a difference.

Why is it so difficult to see how taxing the rich affects all of us? If my boss, who is a multi-millionaire, gets taxed at a higher rate, he has less money to invest in his company. That means less growth, fewer new jobs created (or maybe even some jobs eliminated), lower salary for me, fewer benefits for me and my family, etc. So yes, those tax cuts for the wealthy DO impact the middle and lower class. Besides, why should someone have to pay a much larger PERCENTAGE (not amount) of their hard-earned money simply because they may have made choices in life (i.e. higher education, relocating to higher paying areas, etc.) that you and I didn't make?

By the way, please don't accuse others who hold different views from yours of being uneducated on the subject.

Comment: Obviously, this Joe Miller is an Obama supporter. Electricity WOULD be indirectly taxed by TAXING coal or dirty energy. The essence is the SAME. He even shows the quote where Obama says, "We ought (probability or expectation) to tax dirty energy". DUH...Why are you making excuses for Obama??? However, just wait and he will flip-flop on this idea as well as all the others!

    **********
Neither probabilities nor expectations are what they seem; it is a hope for consequence based on cause and effect. Case in point, GW Bush expectation was that the surge would rout all insurgents in Iraq. Obama postulates the probability that a tax on dirty energy would cause energy producers to search for, develop and provide cleaner energy sources. However, just like John McCain, he prefers ???Cap and Trade??? ??? It would depend on how the trade would be used or redirected.

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 07/31/2008 2:56:08 PM

Not my electricity. It doesn't come from coal at all.
If your electricity comes from Clean Coal plants that trap pollution, that would not be taxed either.

Thus it isn't a tax on electricity.

If by some chance your electricity was getting taxed, your provider would be perfectly capable of upgrading the plant equipment thus removing the tax for you too.

    • Posted By: kyle10b @ 07/31/2008 2:50:45 PM

keep reading...Obama then says that he'd rather not tax energy at all for the purposes they are discussing.

The McCain camp is officially done for. Even their own party members are calling the McCain cmpaign a "disgrace", and "pathetic". One of McCains own campaign advisors from when he ran in 2000, called this recent ad: "childish". They are all out of ammo now, so their only hope is to lie and attack Obama with smears. Unfortunately for them, Obama is no John Kerry, and he has the largest following of any candidate in history. This election will be a blowout in Obama's favor, and then we can finally get this nation back on track, and out of the hands of war criminals, bigots, and corrupt politicians.

    YES WE CAN!!!

In this way he would show the world that Republicans aren't all sleazeball scumbags like Bush and his cronies. What a fool I am. What a fool he is.
