Benningan's was the first casual dining chain restaurant to located in our area about 25 years or so ago. Bennigan's never remodeled or updated anything and they closed down about ten years ago. Their building has been a seasonal Halloween costume store for the past several years with the interior unchanged, being dark and depressive as ever.

Bennigans has good food for the cost and is a great place to meet up for a cheap dinner and a few beers.. They also have alot of innovative menu items, unlike applebees are any of the other chain type places that I would tend to classify with this restaurant.

Bennigan's decor wasn't welcoming. the two locations where i am were dark and shabby. they were located in great locations but the food wasn't as good their other competitors usually on the same black. it seems like chain restaurants are losing their luster. they all have basically the same menu...but Bennigan's, they should have upgraded 10 years ago.

The same will happen to Ruby Tuesday's and TGIFriday's isn't far behind. KISS... Keep it Simple Stupid !!!!

They always had draught Guinness. And that is about the only good thing I can say about Bennigan's.

There is just something about the trite and snide comments of the "experts" & consults that I find bothersome. The come across as a group of vultures to nit pick & accuse. I would really enjoy seeing their track records as a hands on operator and see how well they succeeded during diffuclt times. Sort of like asking a sports writer to manage the Yankess or the music critic to step on stage in perform in Aida.

nature-since you can't seem to spell alcohol I bet you did sneak some to him. I myself Loved bennigans when I lived in an area that had one. I think the problem is they went national and didn't stay a local favorite

since when is olive garden a "special place". i'll admit my own love of houlihans but chain restaurants are all around awful. if you're going to spend time and money eating out why not a locally owned place with some character?

Bennigan's use to have $1 domestic drafts and that's what brought my friends and I in. This was during college, so $1 beers were the way to go. It was a great place to meet, hang out, and relax. The food has never been great. They changed the $1 beer policy years ago. Even though I haven't been there in a whiles, I will miss it. Good times.

Could you tell the difference between Bennigan's, Chili's, TGI Fridays, Ruby Tuesdays or any of the other fake pubs? They all look alike and serve the same mediocre fare. Throw away the cookie cutter and try to be authentic rather than a me-too homogenized purveyor of pre-cooked dreck.

    poor service killed Bennigans

  • Posted By: navyjim @ 08/01/2008 11:51:25 AM

this may be part of the reason for this chains failure but my reason for not eating at Bennigans is because of the bad service....my wife and I went to bennigans 3 times and all 3 times had lousy service this year....

The new Bennigan SPORT prototype locations in Merrillville, Indiana and Addison, Texas are apparently doing well. I haven't visited yet, but I've heard they have different menu items and the pictures show a more modern decor.

I ate at Bennigan's on two occasions. Both times my order was wrong, the servers weren't very nice and once my fish wasn't cooked all the way. I only give a restaurant two chances and after that I never go back. I never went back. The one by my house is closed. I don't have to wonder why.

The overly-aggressive couponing (buy one whole entree and get another free) couldn't have helped the bottom line. I was getting email coupons all the time. Sometimes I felt sorry for them -- it was like they were giving the food away.

It's hard to find a restaurant anymore where the pasta dish isn't a glorified "boil in bag" dinner, and about the only thing they do "fresh" is maybe grill a steak the way you asked for it if you're lucky. Ever try asking for a dish on the menu "without salt"? I'm sure even Olive Garden's "healthy menu" is loaded with salt and may be worse for you than the fat-laden normal fare.
