Dude, i absolutely and totally agree with you. This article was not only hilarious but a great read. Thank you for writing about this gross trend. I admire your humor and courage to write about something that so many people freakishly love. Down with Crocs!

I have read both articles and you do have a point they are seen everywhere! But I have to side with the Crocs. For many years my mom has had problems with her feet. She is a nurse you see, always on her feet, and taking care of your grandfathers and grandmothers. She has always worked hard, sometimes two or three jobs to pay the bills. She put herself through college while working a full time job and part time at the Library. Then decided that her degree was useless, she still wasn't doing what her heart desired. She put herself through college again, this time for a nursing degree. All of this while raising us on her own after the divorce. And after surgeries on both her feet and endless chemo sessions for her cancer, which she is fighting for the third time, she is happy with her job. Those Crocs she bought on a whim have really helped her out. She tried so many shoes, but none of them helped support her feet, or gave her room for toe movement for her bad feet. I just want to say thanks the CROCS they are the best thing for her and for countless other people in the world. Even if you don't like them, over look them, and DON"T JUDGE PEOPLE BY THERE SHOES! You are really messing your kid up. My four children do not judge people by their clothes, shoes, or hair. Its like the old saying "Beauty is only skin deep".

You are an idiot, Crocs are the best thing that has ever happened to a pair of sore feet. Granted the first pairs that came out were not attractive, but boy did they help those aching puppies. When I am at meetings and have to stand for several hours on concrete floors, by the end of the day, when my feet would be so sore I couldn't stand, Crocs saved the day.
    HOORAY for CROCS!!!!

Sadly, you lead the charge against something that thousands of Americans and people around the world find very therapeutic merely because you don't like the looks of them. Do you often spend your father/son time teaching your son to look down his nose at other people? How inspiring! You attack a shoe company...why not one or two of those clothing companies that make ragged, ripped and discolored clothing that looks worn out. Oh, maybe you like to sit in the park and look at people's underwear.

I, sadly, own a pair of these rubber boats. I don't know what possessed my mom into thinking I would enjoy them. They have not left my closet and I can't think of anyone I hate enough to give them to...

Also, I found an old newsweek in my school library and it had the follow-up article to this one in it. You sir, Mr. Tuttle, are a genius. Thank you for making my day :)

Every time I read this article and its comments I laugh! I especially love the people that waste their time yelling at you for wasting your time. Even if I wore crocs, which won't ever happen, I would still find this article (along with its' follow-up) hilarious. What ever happened to a good sense of humor?

Too Funny and I totally agree with you. Please, stop the madness. They are so many comfortable shoes out there that are NOT ugly and dorky looking.

After just reading "What a Croc of Shoes", I had to comment. You are a brilliant, clever writer. I now know what I want to do when I grow up... (btw I'm 37) I'll be writing, barefoot of course, while sipping chilled Black Sambuca by candle light ! Thanks for the articles! Let's raise our glasses to a world without Crocs!

I think there's more important topics to talk about than crocks. let it go people; if it was your idea and making money from them you would have a different point of view use your time in somethings more relevant.

The FIRST time I saw those ugly shoes, I told my best friend they were well ....UGLY and she was offended because well they were on her feet....She still my best friend and she is STILL wearing those ugly shoes...Sheez cant all be perfect like ME!!

Fantastic article! I support Mr. Tuttle on his dislike for Crocs. They are the lazy people shoes and how dare the place them upon their children's feet. Give them an actual shoe kids can play in not get beat up over. Kids have enough to deal with on the playground why add to it by letting them wear Crocs.

Fantastic!! As I can relate to Mr. Tuttle on the fact that I truly can not stand Crocs, Crocs are the lazy person shoes and how dare they put them on there children's feet. Give children a shoe they can actually play in.and not get beat up over. Kids have enough to deal with on the playground don't add to it.

love it! so glad to hear someone else thinks the same as me. all my college friends own a pair, and even if i risk a snicker, i get the evil eye from them. now for kids, i don't mind so much. i actually think they're cute on kids, and my little sisters and brother love them. but if you're over 10 or 11, not so necessary. and if they're for medical purposes, ok, whatever. but gosh, please stop wearing these! and for the so many "i only wear them for gardening" stories i've read here, um, how are these good shoes for gardening? they have holes in them. you might as well go barefoot.

  • Posted By: rosemary_son @ 01/08/2009 9:32:13 AM

I never imagined people could get so emotional about shoes....

  • Posted By: CMaley @ 01/07/2009 2:49:04 PM

CROCS ARE NOT GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT PEOPLE! Heads up! they'll be with us forever cause people choose to have ZERO fashion sense and wear these garden shoes with jeans, dresses (have you SEEN the atrocity they call "high heels' WTF.) Screw all of you Croc lovers cause they're ugly, bulky and make your feet sweat.

    Funniest. Article. Ever.
I'm sitting at work reading this, and literally had to put my hand over my mouth to keep from laughing out loud! I honestly couldn't care less what people are wearing on their feet, but this trend amazes me. I don't understand it and will never own a pair of these, but my 4 year old daughter loves them and wants to wear them everywhere so I try not to complain too much.
In any case, brilliant writing. Thank you for sharing your "demented obsessiveness" with us!

Why are people so caught up in other people? You don't have to wear the damn shoes, no one is making you. Worry about yourself, go outside for a run and do something productive with your time instead of focusing your energy on a menial pointless crusade. Trends come and go and crocs will soon be gone. don't sweat the small stuff, go for a run.

Hmm, I wasn't aware of these. Just ordered 3 pairs -- thanks for the heads up, they look insanely comfortable! And I don't give a rats patooty what you think of my choice of footwear.

    Get a life.
