I don't really have a problem with Crocs in genral, they are comfortable, durable, easy to clean. I say go for it, when it is a day at the beach, gardening in the back yard, puttering around town doing errands. But these shoes should not be worn to church, court (which I have observed, and on an attorney even), red carpet event, etc. That is when the whole Crocs trend is annoying. Everything has its time and place people.

First, I have to say that I have am tearing up from laughing so hard over this article---great stuff. Next, in response to lsdesign's rant, although I see the point you're attempting to make, you contradict yourself by arguing that Americans should be able to laugh at ourselves in a rant that takes Crocs, of all things, far too seriously.

When Crocs were first introduced (and I mean NO ONE knew about them), my then boyfriend and I decided to buy them for his parents and ourselves for two reasons: 1) An absurd amount of gardening occurs at his parents' home, and 2) They live on a river inlet so the shoes were good for a quick trip down to the dock or fishing. I made sure I purposely chose the most obnoxious color available at the time, and never, I repeat, NEVER were these hideous shoes to be worn beyond the boundaries of that yard. Several months later when I noticed people actually wearing the crazy things in public, I couldn't throw mine away fast enough. The problem with Crocs is not their invention or existence; the problem with Crocs is that they have fallen into the same fashion category as spandex: A useful item under specific circumstances for which it was designed, the trend has been exploited by those with little to no fashion sense (or at least no regard for it) in terms of what is appropriate when, where, on who, and worn with what. Welcome to Hula Hoop Land.

i agree that there are many other things that we should be worried about. Crocks are GOOD for your feet, as well as back. my sister works in a hospital and they are the only shoes that don't hurt her feet after 12 hours. i think that it is horrible that you, Mr. Tuttle, allow your child to say such things about people because of the shose they chose to wear. if you don't like them don't wear them, don't buy them for your family, but don't stop others. i give full prpos to future_somthings, you said it man, we have bigger things to worry about!

You know, I can't stand those shoes either, but I am also a teacher and not one of my colleagues have worn those shoes to work, so he was totally WRONG on that one. These shoes are really no better than the jelly shoes of the 80's and 90's. So what? It's a fad gone wild!!! Wish I'd thought of it!!!

Thanks god this is just a non-sense article. As a matter of fact, I wouldn´t consider it a "case".

I´m not the kind of person who is driven by fashion; but a person who have found in Croc-style shoes a real relief for my orthopedic problems. Having this in mind, being considered a "dork" doesn´t affect me at all.

Three things - First, I'd like to say Bravo Mr. Tuttle! Until I see Stacy and Clinton tell people to wear crocs, I will not touch them. Second, to those who thing the author has too much time on his hands...he's paid to sit around and write articles. Think about it. Do people say you have too much time on your hands for sitting at your desk and doing your job? Finally, I work on my feet and don't have to wear crocs to be comfortable. Face it, you are always being judged. What's the saying? Better to appear smart than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. We could change that around to fashion - better to appear smart than to put on a pair of crocs and remove all doubt.

Wht the big fuss over CROCS? If your going to discuss something that is of importance, the topic should be about such things like the need of aid in 3rd world countries, the rise of children in need ot adoption all over the world and genocide in darfur!

Not only are they ugly but they are dangerous. I saw a kid get his big toe ripped off two days ago because his Crocs got sucked into an escalator. Don't let your kids wear them!!!

    • Posted By: kittykat252008 @ 08/05/2008 11:22:09 PM

You could get your big toe ripped off by wearing tennis shoes because of the laces. They could become untied and get stuck in the escalator. So should we not wear tennis shoes because the are a safety hazziard?

I have to disagree..I think they're cute and I'm going to keep wearing them :) Sorry!!
