ok, I agree, they "ain't purdy" but what am I supposed to do? I've got Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalga and these ugly things are prescribed to me by my doctor(yes, they make medical grade Crocs-see the website)and they let me walk better and w/o a $%&@ load of pain. If you have any better ideas, I would sure love to hear them.

Thank you for this comment. My son has autism and is unable to wear other types of shoes due to his sensory issues. While I understand you are poking fun at society in general; you are also aiming at a segment of the population that you (I hope) didn't intend to. Saying that everyone who wears Crocs are idiots makes you actually look like one. In the future, I hope that you do a bit more "research" on your nationally syndicated articles. Your irresponsibility is astounding.

OMG, this is funny! My 10 year old son and I sat here reading it and we laughed our butts off! You think YOU'RE a late bloomer. I'm 38 years old and didn't know what those things were made of, what they were originally used for, or that "fashionistas" have poo-pooed them. LOL I just plain think they are ugly. LOL My son says: "I really like your statement in paragraph nine about "leaving the house in neon green Crocs". I laughed so hard! Thanks for the great laugh. Oh, BTW, I don't own the things and would NEVER allow my son to wear them as well.

I wear Crocs (neutral beige) and love them, but I usually just wear them around the house and for yardwork. They have really helped my plantar fasciatis plus my feet don't sweat in them, due to the numerous holes. Nevertheless, I wash mine frequently. My husband and I recently read where a company was collecting 'old' Crocs to recycle for children around the world who have no shoes. Choice of shoes, like everything else, is of no concern to anyone but the individual.

i like crocs, i have a bright orange pair. they are really comfortable. i think that people either like or dont like crocs. you cant really do anything about it. but i really did liked this article. it was imformative and all croc wearers should definatly read it. its very interesting and addresses about the whole "croc epidemic"

I love all of the comments telling the writer to not waste their time writing an article on such a useless topic (I'm assuming these people also have a pair of Crocs sitting on a little rug by their front door). The article is an interesting social commentary on a light topic in the fashion section; what, where you expecting an article on Darfur? I guess what I'm trying to say is this: if you don't have anything intelligent to say don't bother writing a comment.

    Enjoy your ugly shoes.

haha Everyone just needs to lighten up now a days we take everything so seriously..So what the guy doesn't like crocks. Some people might like them it really doesn't matter. We should all be mature enough to accept everyones opinions. Just say thats not the way I feel but I respect your opinion...I'm only 13 now how does that make you feel.

    • Posted By: wolflover1977 @ 08/05/2008 8:35:56 PM

Very mature. But the thing that gets me is where this idiot of an author is teaching his son to make fun of other people. You are right people are entitle to their opinions but this author should be aware of what he is teaching his child. I seriously dislike bullies that make fun of other people and for an adult to be teaching their child to do just this, it angers me.

apparently the author struck a sensitive note. some say that this was a tasteless article but it got the attention of multiple readers and evoked enough people to respond to this article defending or supporting one perspective or another. to me this sounds like successful journalism (despite what the other journalist who responded on this site may say). let's face it...the shoes ARE hideous, and honestly, I don't think they're that comfortable at all! Will they go away entirely? probably not because they do serve a purpose to a certain niche of our community, many of which have so gallantly defended their taste in footwear on this forum. people in therapy/treatment of some sort, gardeners or possibly parents who need a quick answer to summertime children apparel should be the main target consumer; not someone out and about wearing poorly-coordinated purple shoes and khaki shorts! crocs are a fad, and living in colorado (the birth place of this monstrosity), i can do nothing to escape the hideous site of this oddly bright foam shoe around every tree-hugging corner. yes this is america where we have the freedom to wear whatever we want without the fear of persecution, however, that right is also reserved for the freedom of speech and opinions of every citizen from the calvin kleins and tommy hilfigers of the world to the fashionably challenged! put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Even more annoying than Crocs, is a straight man acting all catty about fashion. Please, sweetie, stick to things that don't require than one working testicle, like riding lawn mowers, breeding, and war.

Why do people care so much about what other people are wearing. I dont like crocs, but I dont care if my 5 year old or 85 year old neighbor wears them as shoes.. wears them around there neck..wears them with a prom dress.. or wears them in a billion degree weather.. if thats what they want to do.. then who cares. Just because I dont like them doesnt mean that they cant.

  • Posted By: so_many_kids @ 08/05/2008 8:28:31 PM

I just wanted to add that Crocs were not "made" for nurses or people who are on their feet. As an avid boater, I know they were created as a slip-resistant shoe for boaters.

I think this was a wonderful article/rant as well. I must admit to browsing the article after reading 2/3 of it. The one thing I am surprised was not mentioned is the safety hazard these Croc and bull excuses for shoes present for children especially. I am referring to the reports of these shoes gertting stuck in escalators! Once I heard of these hazards I started paying very close attention to people wearing these as well as our little people. Why you may ask? Because my wife went and bought a couple pair for my two kids age 4 and 1 yrs old! I actually witnessed my son get partially stuck on an escalator with these Crocs on but he was able to pull free. Imagine if he had not...a toe at least would be mangled! Do you want your childs screams to reverberate through your skull as you watch helplessly your child scream in agony and panic as his or her foot gets slowly eaten by a slow-moving escalator?! Probably not. Yes I knw there are safety buttons at the top and bottom of an escalator, therefore reducing a childs entire leg being shredded by this mode of transportation, but why take the risk? Just a thought.

here is my comment... people who care this much about what other people are doing have no signigificant things going on in there life.. if they want to wear crocs on there feet..fine.. i dont even care if they want them.on a chain around there neck or with a prom dress.. let them! who cares! I dont personally like them, but I dont think that means the world shouldnt. Who cares what other people do!

Can those things be recycled? They look like more future landfill crap to me.

  • Posted By: Bubbles25 @ 08/05/2008 8:25:00 PM

In my opinion, people who write here to complain about this article don't have anything to do . This a funny article as someone else just mentioned. Gosh people have too much time on their hands and /or too much stress that needs to be released. Oh and Crocs ARE an abomination . Ughhhh, they may look cute on children, but in adults Ughhhhh

Wearing Crocs is like wearing uggs with a mini skirt in 110 degree weather! It's just stupid! There are so many different options for comfort. Like Chaco's for example. They are the single most comfortable sandle to wear. They too are indestructable!
Working in retail, I am on my feet 8-10 hours a day! Never do I have to complain about my feet hurting! In fact my entire body feels great! The increduble arch support aligns your you to keep your legs and back in great shape! I am to the point now where I wear Chacos all Summer and Keens all winter. Next summer Chaco is coming out with more fall type shoes which means I will be saying goodbye to my Keens.... Sorry Keen!
Chaco's are recognized by the American Podeatric Medical Association. That just tells you how great they are for your feet and your body! Chaco uses recycled rubber for the soles of their shoes! Which in the end means less in the landfill!
I can not explain how amazing chaco is in a few paragraphs so please go to chaco.com and check them out! You will love what they have to offer!
