Thank you, Steve! You really shed light on the Crocs epidemic! I thought your article was hilarious and enlightening. My first thought about the shoes was that they are, in fact, the ugliest shoes ever to grace this earth! Besides the fact that they are a breeding ground for foot funk!!! I rate them right up there with JELLIES!!!!

    First, amen!
Second, for those chatising the writer's parenting skills...shut up and manage your own family. I gurantee that if you have kids you influence their thoughts and ideas. If you don't well then you probably aren't a real parent. You're probably the kind of parent that lets T.V. influence their thoughts.
Third, It's not a fashion issue, well it is that as well, but, it is more of an eyesore issue. Like trash on the side of the road. No one likes to see it and we pay people to get rid of it. The same thing needs to happen to Crocs as they are an eyesore.

Crocs are dumb. Not only are they ugly, but they don't even last long! And why would you pay 50 bucks for shoes with holes in them?! I honestly think a lot of people wear them as a (bad) fashion statement.
And why do people who wear crocs get so defensive? Maybe because they know this artice is true.

If I wanted foam-shoes I'd cut them out of the foam 'bumpers' found in packing boxes. For real shoes, I wear hiking boots that look more like dress shoes when worn with long pants; comfortable and keep my feet dry.
-On your feet all day? buy hiking boots! They were made for walking around.

  • Posted By: stampnplus @ 08/05/2008 4:37:23 PM

I used to wake up in the morning and have a hard time walking around for the 1st hour, then someone gave me a pair of crocs for my b-day. I thought what the heck were they thinking, but to my dismay, I now wear nothing else. My feet no longer hurt or ache when I sleep. If you have never had foot problems you should keep your comments to yourself, because without them I would walk pain everyday. They do wear out so I will buy more!!!!!!! If I could afford it I would have one in every style and every color. Crocs can count on my support and my passing the word that they work better than orthodics!

cheers to the tongue in cheek article and it's author. While I agree that there are much more serious situations and discussions regarding our world, occasionally, it's a light and bright spot in a very serious day to poke fun of an item in life to relieve the pressure. As well, a good rule a thumb is to never trust someone is practical shoes. lighten up

You've inspired me to wear my free pair of Crocs.

  • Posted By: LBBsM @ 08/05/2008 4:34:07 PM

You know... my friends have raved about how comfortable Crocs are and the only reasons I have for not owning a pair, thus far, are a.) the price; and b.) the ugly, bright colors that don't match anything in my closet. Barbie Pink? C'mon people, that is not fashion; it is a color in the giant box of generic crayons.

Let???s have Sherman set the Wayback Machine to the mid-1980's, where we will read similar rants about Nike and other brand name athletic footwear manufacturers flooding corporate America with their unacceptable sneakers. Back then, the fashion police were weeping over the lack of decent footwear that these days would be considered "formal attire". Everyone, from infants to corporate executives, is wearing sneakers for every occasion. Even the most nonathletic grannies own more than one pair of athletic shoes.

I think Crocs are here to stay and just like Reebok and New Balance, they are well on their way to becoming as American as Levi???s knockoffs and casual Fridays. I think I will purchase a purple pair of Crocs next payday. How about you?

Wow, i couldn't agree with you more, when i first saw them i thought they were a joke. They are the ugliest shoes i have ever seen, and still they continue to flood department stores. Everyone is wearing them, and they seem to be deteriorating the fashion sense of the people who wear them. I have seen one too many times people wearing bright neon crocs with a brown shirt and jeans, or something of the sort.
And i don't want to hear the horse crap excuse of, they are comfortable!! A lot of things are comfortable that we just don't do. Being naked is comfortable, but we dont walk around in our birthday suits!
And i 100% agree that majority of the people who wear them can be classified as dorks...I mean, if you serious just take a good look at them, you could get your laugh in for the day. Its just common sense to avoid those horrid shoes.
They are an insult to fashion...hehe
And what suprises me more, is that now, they are also creating croc hand bags...I mean as if they shoes were bad enough! What will they come out with next? Croc Underwear? I mean c'mon people!
And I enjoy so much that this article was published. I love it. Good Work!

Crocs in and of themselves aren't bad. Beach, pond, garden or the like. What is terrible is people treating them like real shoes! They are not real shoes anymore than my mucky rubber barn boots are. Stop wearing them out in public. Crocs in public are a symptom of Americans losing their sense of dignity and decorum. I see people at decent restaurants dressed like they???re going to mow their lawns.

Aerica: I don't wear my Tevas except in the outdoors (beach or camping), so I have no issue with crocs on the beach. Just take them off before you hit the shops, okay?

Crocs are dumb. They aren't attractive looking and why would you pay 50 bucks for shoes with holes in them?? I do not think they are appropriate shoes for young children either. Crocs all in all are pointless.
And why do people who wear crocs get so defensive? Maybe because they know this blog is true.

I'm a Croc fan. I wear them fishing, gardening, to the beach and occasionally for the quick trip to WalMart. I also agree with the author. They are ugly. But maybe we can learn to appreciate them for what the are meant to be. An ugly, comfortable, waterproof, bacterial-resistant, (and yes) recyclable shoe. Also, I don't see how this fad is any more Croc's fault, than it is Speedo's fault when fat hairy people wear their swimsuits in public. You can't blame the company for what the consumers do with the products.

Personally, I find the Croc epidemic rather useful for self-defense purposes. When confronted with a maniac sporting these eyesores, you know to carefully avoid any and all contact with them to protect your own safety. The advantage of the visually aggressive color schemes is that these potential axe-murderers can be spotted from miles away leaving you and your family plenty of time to run for cover. They seem to work in a similar fashion to the attire worn by convicts in prison. It is distinctive and easily recognizable for the benefit of all the non-dangerous criminals in society. Happy Croc-bashing, all!

Our soldiers died in war so you can have the right to free speech. If you don't like crocs you are certainly entitled to your opinion as well as everyone else. I own four pairs of crocs and yes, I'm a grown up. They all match my 10 year old great neices crocs. When we wear matching pairs to the park with our little things stuck into them, also matching, she smiles in a way that warms my heart. When our crocs make other children and adults at the park smile and laugh we both feel good. There are to many complainers in this world about little things that don't even have anything to do with them. I feel sad that you are teaching your son to be another, " you" when he grows up by forcing your opinions on him. He wants to make his father proud of him so he will agree with whatever your opinions are. Let your son become his own person and make his own decisions. Try being positive about things you don't like instead of forcing your opinion on other people who read your article. You do have some things positive in your life don't you? Open your eyes and look at the precious gift you have sitting next to you. Be thankful for such a wonderful gift as your son and make his stay on this earth a positive experience instead of a negative one. I will pass on the best advise I was ever given, " If you don't have anything positive to say keep your mouth closed." I do it on the Paramedic Unit when my patients don't have clean clothes on, wear clothes that clash or have holes in them and yes even when they voice their ignorant opinion about something they no nothing about. You might learn something new if you try what this quote says, " he appeared to be so smart until he opened his mouth and spoke." Rose

Replying to monkie4's "Freedom of Expression" comment.
Yeah, Um, their is a difference between expressing yourself and just being plain tacky and trashy. Really.

    But Anyway.
DALLIGAF as to how comfy they are... There are shoes out their that are comfy and "chic." Nobody wants to see or smell your socks through your crocs...

  • Posted By: mrschop1 @ 08/05/2008 4:31:47 PM

I am a Crocs owner, and I absolutly love them! They are more comfortable then the best pair of tennis shoes in the world. Granted they are not the greatest looking shoes, but who cares if they are comfortable!!! If we judge people by what shoes they are wearing then how shallow are you???? This world is full of people who only judge others just based on what clothes and shoes they are wearing. WHO CARES what brand they are wearing as long as they are wearing clothes that aren't stained, torn, smelly and are clean!

  • Posted By: claudylovesjesus @ 08/05/2008 4:31:31 PM

Yep. There are more things to rant about, and they are mostly things that are not irreversible like Global Warming or Bush being president...we can only hope to make them better, but eliminating Crocs from the face of the earth, that is something still reversible. Although I enjoyed this great and humorous article, I'd have to say Crocs are comfy but really ugly, and the ugly has surpassed the comfy and I only wore them once and that was because my shoes were indisposed and my friend let them to me. If I should call her my friend, after I was seen with the ugly things on my precious feet. I felt a piece of me died, and I???m the type of person who doesn???t really care what anyone things of them. I can???t do anything about this epidemic of Crocs, but I???ve notice that my ???friend??? who wears them has forgotten them for a pair of Speres or the ???Grandma shoes??? how I like to call them. This might be the antidote to this poisonous plague of Crocs, but we can only hope. For those who do love Crocs, well ???May the force be with you.???
