Thank God! I was worried I was the only sane person in America who thought they were an abomination.

The bigger issue here is that after the initial break in (down) period, these shoes give virtually NO FOOT SUPPORT.

Just look at how the person's foot is "posted" or situated relative to the level ground. Invariably, in large or small people, the shoes smash down and allow the foot to tilt in the direction of the foam breakdown. VERY bad for the muscle-skeletal system. Oh, sure they are comfy. Soft, non-supportive goo though they are.

Thank goodness. Crocs are straight fugly. Rule number 1: Don't rock the crocs with socks or JORTS..(blue jean shorts). Rule 2: No Jibbitz?? No sir, we don't plug charms into the holes either. So you make them fluffy and call them crocs mammoth. No..this is wrong on so many levels. JUST SAY NO TO CROCS.

Talk about getting your panties in a bunch. Someone expresses an opinion and y'all sit around calling him names. If he doesn't like Crocs, he doesn't like Crocs. And one of the jobs of a writer is, well, to write. So this is what he chose to write about. Okay. Okay. You don't like what he writes, don't read it. I don't like Crocs (I think they're a crock), I won't wear 'em, I won't buy 'em, thank GOD my kids have absolutely NO interest in having any, and I don't look at them when I see other people wearing them. My goodness. NBD.

Then again, I've never been one to follow a fad, and am certainly not going to get het up when someone doesn't like what I choose to wear. I remember reading some fashionista saying no one should wear turtlenecks, but I like turtlenecks. They keep me warm. So what?

Oh, and for the kid who got all righteous about the John Belushi quote, you might want to see the movie 1941 before telling this guy how dumb HE is.

I could not agree more - "Make it stop". A new employee came into work wearing these hideous multi-colored swirl crocs. A girl about 19, who was famous for her one-liners, turned to me and said: " it
looks like someone threw -up fruity pebbles all over her shoes!" Need I say more?

Yes it matters what you wear on your feet! Does anyone watch What Not To Wear on TLC?

  • Posted By: Kell @ 08/05/2008 2:37:34 PM

Steve Tuttle, YOU are the dork. I would not wear these shoes, but I would not be so petty to tell others not to do so... and encourage my child to pick people out... then write an article about it. Was this your work for the week? Good Job! As I was reading this I am thinking that this is why I do not care for Newsweek anymore. They promote Obama and make naive and self-promoting observations about society and politics...Then I see the last three words in this article. Wow. Corporations and advertisers are setting their sights on promoting their products to a liberal mindset as our society becomes ever increasingly enlightened, as they need to now market their products into this new enlightened society. Advertisers are turning their sights to existing media that has a wide democratic / liberal readership. Because of this new interest by advertisers, it's in Newsweek's interest to increase it's ad revenue by obtaining a reader base that is moronic. As we know, the demographic advertisers are looking for are those who are the most easily influenced. Result...this article. There is a reason Rupert Murdoch's family members have contributed to the Obama campaign. Political parties change throughout history and I am watching my Democratic Party change into something that resembles Republicans. (Regan Democrats?) Is telling people not to wear these shoes like telling people not to eat Popeye's Chicken? "Y'all eat that Popeyes Chicken? Y'all shouldn't be doin' that"... Obama speaking to the residents of Beaumont, Texas. (please save us Hillary!)

I'm gonna wear a pair of crocs everyday this week just because i wasted 2 mins of my life reading this pointless article.

  • Posted By: ashlee1603 @ 08/05/2008 2:36:55 PM

I think the author of this article is just a "dork" as he says and was made fun of his whole life and so he thinks its fun to make fun of people now over stupid things....what does it matter whether people like crocs or not...getting a f***ing life loser!

  • Posted By: brendita7277 @ 08/05/2008 2:36:44 PM

So .... There is NO REAL LEGITIMATE back-up to why you hate Crocs ...
    I don't wear them, but I don't hate 'em....
(I wonder if it's a phobia you have???)

That is about the funniest piece of journalism I have ever read.
Also, proud to say I NEVER owned a pair. I say Mock the Croc.

I agree they're ugly, but you could have made more of a case. Worn them yourself. Pointed out how feet can't breate in them, or the fact that they off gas and the toxins get absorbed into your skin....I mean come on--personal opinion on how ugly they are isn't enough. You could have written so much more! You did not make a case. I guess articles and their quality, like decent shoes, are just going downhill.....

  • Posted By: Summer Sunshine @ 08/05/2008 2:36:00 PM

How could I agree with you more? The croc fad is as bad as the jocks walking around wearing pink collared shirts, the emo boys with girl pants so tight it makes you wonder how everything fits, and the goth kids leading each other around by collar and dog leash. Come on you guys... how can you look in the mirror and not cringe by the reflection staring back at you???? As a college student, I am embarrassed to call these types of people my peers. Steve Tuttle, kudos to you for voicing your opinion, I hope to read more of your work in the future. Keep telling it like it is!

  • Posted By: aderanek @ 08/05/2008 2:35:10 PM

they are just shoes.... what does it matter if they are a "fashion crime" who cares!
i personally don't own any but i do think people who do look adorable in them no matter the age.
so get over it they are just a pair of crocs. that you can put CUTE little things in the "swiss cheese" holes.

  • Posted By: BrynMarele @ 08/05/2008 2:34:59 PM

Love it!! I've always hated Crocs and Uggs PASSIONATELY! I admit to being addicted to flip flops myself.... but at least those aren't hideous. Crocs and Uggs belong in the garden, and in the snow, respectively.

  • Posted By: spaceygirl22 @ 08/05/2008 2:34:39 PM

    Love this article! I concur!!!!

  • Posted By: tboetj7 @ 08/05/2008 2:34:34 PM

I wish they would just ban crocs already. I want to vomit when I see people wearing them. Doesnt anybody watch What Not To Wear on TLC?

  • Posted By: isthisusernametaken? @ 08/05/2008 2:34:33 PM

Wow. Okay, first of all, I didn't even know what the hell these things were; but upon viewing them, I agree that they look like a (VERY expensive) gardening shoe.
Secondly, for those who think the writer wasted his time writing this article, and say that people can wear what they want...well, he can say and write what he wants, and none of you (I'm assuming) had a gun to your head forcing you to waste your time reading his opinion.
And for those that made reference to the Pabst Blue Ribbon, Hey There Delilah on Ebay joke.;obviously you have ADHD or a lack of comprehension, because Mr. Tuttle clearly links to The Best Page in The Universe where the joke originated. And if any of you whiners that feel oh-so affronted by this "Croc Hater" really want to get your Crocs in a bunch, you should definitely pay Maddox a visit.

(Google "croc escalator accidents" made me snicker. Ah geez.)

most people here aren't judging the people, just the ugly shoes they are wearing!!!
