I agree completely! You sure wouldn't see any fashionably smart person in Paris, or in any other chic city in the world, wear these horrid things. Plus, I can't imagine how harmful they are to your arches...it's plantar fasciitis waiting to happen.

I hate Crocs. I think they're ugly and bad for the environment (when the fad ends, the plastic shoes will flood our landfills). However, the author of this article seems to have no basis for hating Crocs. Is it his fashion sense? No, he has admitted that he HAS no fashion sense. Is it because they're LITERALLY bad for the environment? No, he's just mad he has to see them. He compares Crocs wearers to those who are (seemingly) uneducated, Pabst Blue Ribbon-drinkers - and teachers. This is the most insulting aspect of his rant. As a teacher, I find his rant offensive. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if my education level is higher than his bachelors in journalism.

wow... I seriously think Crocs are a HUGE improvement to the gross $2 flip flops everyone tromps around in. Flip flops should be banned everywhere but the beach. I beg America to NOT go back to flip flops!! NO one wants to see everyone's nasty feet- esp. those belonging to people who can't take care of their feet!!! And flip-flops promote so many foot/back-problems, ask your doctor! That being said, Crocs are actually GOOD for the feet of those with orthopedic issues. Like everything else, Crocs (especially the ones in flourescent colors with the holes) have their place and should only be worn in moderation! My toddlers wear Crocs in summer because they think they are fun, they can put them on themselves, and they are good for their feet. But this is America, and thanks to WalMart, everyone seems to have gone the way of the slob, not caring that they walk around in public practically in their pajamas, unshowered and unshaven with ratty hair and belly fat hanging out everywhere. I agree with the last poster that we need to put up more mirrors and force people to look at their sloppy selves. However, I am an advocate of Crocs because I work at an airport- where I have the unfortunate experience of daily witnessing our society walk around with no self-pride- Yet because I have to be on my feet 12 hrs a day, I wear crocs!! I have a nice uniform, I never leave the house without showering, putting on makeup, and making sure my nylons dont have a runner. On my feet are those "dressy" Crocs you laugh about. I am the only person at my place of work who goes home with comfortable feet and is not moaning and needing a foot soak after my shift. My shoes could be mistaken from a distance for any other nondiscript black ballet slippers. But they are the greatest gift I have ever given my feet. So I dont think Crocs neet to go, I think society needs a makeover, and they need to stop cross-utilizing every pair of beach shoes and sweat pants they buy into a fashion (non)statement! What America needs is to regain some CLASS, and take everything from Doritios to donuts to Coke to Crocs, in moderation!!!

I used to think they were ugly too. My mom wanted to buy some for my daughter like 3 yrs ago and i said no way those things are weird! For some reason this yr I find them to be appealing on kids because they can wear all the charms on them and kids think that's fun! Well I have to say I started buying the sketchers cali gear that are similar to crocs idea but much cooler ! You can even put the charms in them but they are more narrow and not so fat in the front. That's a good way to still have all the fun of crocs with the cool value added!

Crocs are fine. You, Steve Tuttle, are the truly obnoxious one. I submit that you and your darling son are the true dorks, sitting on an anonymous bench criticizing the footwear of total strangers from that fashion MECCA that is Old Town, Alexandria, Va.

You are the dork. You are the tourist. It is your bad taste that should be eliminated.

who do you actually have a job writing for Newsweek? I thought more of this magazine. How do you actually get paid to write an article ripping on millions of Americans? I feel bad for your kid.

I have three kids. They all wear crocs. Individualized with in color and style. It makes them feel good and they love their summer shoes. Easy on. Easy off. Get em wet, get em dirty. Not a problem. Hose them off and they are as good as new. Great for anything and comfortable. They're hear to stay. Way better than the dangerous flip flop alternative with open toes that land thousands of people in the emergency room every year.

So you can keep wearing your striped socks up to your knees with your tennis shoes staring at people wearing crocs. Any while they arent saying it out loud like you...they're thinking to themselves...your a total dork and they feel bad for your kid.

I hardly read a few lines and it had had me laughing, it's so true, put on some normal shoes for crying out loud people, do we all look alike, or attempt to be alike....No...so choose something different.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Even I wonder sometimes as I gaze down at my mulit-colored, rounded "clown shoes", I am not so sure that this fashion rage will die out soon. Medical personnel seem to swear by them as do beauticians and everyone constatnly on their feet. Not recommended for climbing utility poles, felling trees or open-pit mining.
I personally cannot get my feet into anything else at this time. Arthritis has curved my toes almost completely sideways that no width of shoe can accomodate. So for the time being, or until a more attractive piece of footware hits the market I'll have to be a DORK or not walk.

Okay, If you're really willing to put all your time and effort into letting everyone know that you hate Crocs, you really need to get a life. I mean come on!!! Sitting on a bench and looking for people wearing Crocs?!? And then becoming 'a little concerned' after you don't see some?!? That sounds like a really LAME activity, and allowing a kid to insult people based on an opinion of YOURS is not okay. i couldn't even read the second page of this ludicois article! Want some advice? Turn your concern to Africa or something important.

Apparently you don't suffer from foot pain, if you did you would wear croc's not matter how bad they look. If I have the choice of walking without stabbing pain in my feet and legs and being fashionable. You guess, what I would choose.

Hallejulia! I thought I was the only person on the planet who hated those things! I thought they would have gone away by now, but THEY WON'T DIE!! I'm sure someday we will look back at Crocs with the same thoughts as we now have on neon spandex shorts.

I too HATE those ugly shoes!!! I don't know anyone who wears them and I love it. I cringe when I see small children walk by in those things. They look like cheap shoes that a kid in Mexico would sell to you as you are waiting in line to cross back into AMerica. I can't wait for this horrible trend to end!!

I echo your feelings and dislike of Croc's. Be patient, they will become extinct, just like Birkenstocks, I don;t think a homeless person, would be caught dead, in either of them. Bad behavior and bad fashion , if you ignore them , they WILL go AWAY. By the way, Croc's are the latest outwardly sign of a Liberal, if you want to join the "flock" (dic) -a meek; unimaginative; or easily led person, so they should be called, BAAAAAAAHS!

Do you honestly think that people are going to take fashion advice from you. What person that isn't a complete loser has the time or the want to write a hate article about crocs? And just so you know normal people, whether they wear crocs or not, don't sit in a sreet with their kid looking for people with crocs. Why don't you take him to play baseball like other kids with normal fathers. Imagine a school day for that kid, Gee Jimmy what did you do this weekend?, Well Joey me and my Dad went downtown and stared at peoples foot wear. Thats a real invigorating story Jimmy! Dude, for real, get a life.

Do you suffer from foot pain ?? apparently NOT ! or else you would be one of the croc wearer's yourself. I don't like how they look either. But .... when it comes to being able to walk without pain shooting up your legs and being a fashionista, I'll take the ugly shoes.. thank you

When I first saw Crocs, they were being worn by a small child playing in a local swimming fountain. I thought they were swimming fins. The next time I saw them, they were a huge bright yellow pair worn by a man at the grocery store. I looked around to make sure there was not a water party on isle 11 that I was not privy to. Unfortunately, it was just an extremely bad shoe judgment that quickly spread to parks, schools, libraries, church, social events, etc. I just want to say to those that have these swimming fins -- They are a great shoe for getting you home in a severe rain storm (ducks naturally have these), or ill even accept gardening. But for all that is good and holy, please quit wearing them as an "everyday" shoe, and quit making your innocent, unknowing children victims for school yard bullies. Thank you Newsweek for making people aware of this global epidemic and the effects it has on both wearers and non-wearers.

Wow! What's it any of anyones business what people put on their own feet. If you don't like the shoes don't wear them. I don't see the problem. I see people everyday wearing things I wouldn't wear but I don't write a freaking article on it. The world doesn't revolve around you dude, get over it. Besides who the hell sits on a bench and counts crocs?! You're outrageous and obviously bored, narrow-minded, and probably single.
    What happen
