Yes, I do have a sense of humor. The problem with rants like this (humorous as they may be) are the emotions and violent feelings it elicits. As I read thru some of the comments I saw "hate" numerous times. I also saw "kill" "stab" "slap" "hit", etc. It' is humor based on negativity and this negativity goes out into the world and becomes hate and violence. Think of the drunks sitting in a bar making "funny" comments about the homosexual a few seats down. Funny one minute, beating him up in the parking lot the next. Why not sit with your son and count the number of people who pass up the opportunity to help someone--to do a "good deed". Park your butts on a bench near a homeless person in obvious need of help. You wouldn't be sitting there long if you counted the people that walked by him as if he wasn't there. The people who won't drop spare change into his cup (even the most fashionably footed - read "expensively shod"). Or count people who stare at and whisper comments about the mentally retarded. These could be written up as humorous rants too. Better yet, don't just sit with your son, go out and DO good deeds with him. These could be written up in a funny way too. Not only would you be a better example to your son, you would be directing the inevitable "mob mentality" in the right direction. You would also be putting positive energy into the world instead of negative. We all know Crocs are ugly. Even the people that wear them. But for whatever reason they choose to wear them anyway. Don't show your son and your readers that it's ok to be so judgmental about something so insignificant as what people wear. Be funny and judgmental about something that matters.

Hahahaha this is a fantastic article! I've been saying this for years!

And to those who commented about medical issues: this article is specifically about Crocs as a fad. Orthopedic shoes are ugly but necessary for some, and you don't see people who don't need them sporting them as a fashion accessory. Get over yourselves and enjoy the satire!

I thought this article was HILARIOUS! & I will agree they are not the prettiest of shoe choices. I will admit, I own over 450 pairs of shoes ... but my favorites for day to day comfort (running errands, air ports - such a pain now that you have to remove your shoes, the beach) are my beloved Crocs. I know & I have said it to myself, "these just really don't go with what I am wearing ... oh, well, I'm comfy". Crocateers unite! Viva La Crocs!

I was given a pair of Crocs as gift (for gardening). Each time I look down at them I have to laugh. They make my feet look emormous and hilarious. They've yet to make it to the garden. My next comment, Steve, is that you mentioned maybe next summer current Croc wearers could wear boots...well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Crocs makes boots. They're called Georgies. I'm afraid, Crocs may be part of the landfill problem!!!

Even though I love the song "Hey There, Delilah" by The Plain White T's and don't understand why you wouldn't like that song, unless it is because of the fact that it was majorly over-played, I totally agree with you. My boyfriend and I have always said how we hate Crocs. At first I didn't think it was so bad when only kids were wearing them (even though I still thought they were ridiculous), but now the fact that I have seen more than one grown, manly man wearing Crocs out and about, I am beginning to fear they will never go away. I can't even explain how weird that is to me. I have heard that Crocs are super comfortable but if anyone really cares about fashion they would rather suffer all day long in stilettos than wear those things. I really hope that you are right and this "trend" is gone by next summer but I am losing hope. Nice work!

Crocs are hideous and being worn for gardening or by a nurse on her feet all day is one thing but to a social event is another. My dear Uncle wore neon orange Crocs to our Rehearsal Dinner at Legal Seafoods in Downtown Boston and tan Crocs to our wedding at King's Chapel in Boston. The other guests were in suits, my female friends had traded their flip flops for high heels and he comes in Crocs. When did "formal" = Crocs? Hopefully this is just one of those fashion trends that will go by the wayside. In my honest opinion Crocs are a rip off of a type of Birkenstock only made in complete rubber.

Blah, Blah, Blah! What's it any of your business what people put on their own feet. Get over it. If you don't like the shoes don't wear the damn things. I think that this is a hideous issue.

Are people really going to take fashion advice from someone whos favorite game is to sit on the side walk with his kid and count people with crocs? Dude, seriously, get a new hobby cause I can tell there is someone whos not getting laid and it is not guy wearing neon crocs.

omg!!! crocs are awesome. i live on a big farm and having crocs are very useful, you just slip them on and off you go. they are extremely comfortable and are good for hot days. you just spray water in the holes and your feet are instantly cool. if you try to spray your feet in tennis shoes then you have just ruined them and can get atheletes foot. i will admit that crocs don't have that much support but they are really comfortable and good if you just go outside or a while or are doing something like going to an amusement park or something like that. they are awesome and i love them and you need to shut up because you shouldn't be judging other people and i bet you look like a stupid hobo that doesn't need to be telling people to wear. and guess what. nobody is going to listen to you. so keep your comments to yourself and shut up.

My comment is....no one is making you wear them, so why do you care? Plenty of people wear ugly clothes and ugly shoes. That doesn't mean you have to. Crocs are comfortable; that is why people wear them. Perhaps this is a huge sign to the footwear industry saying, "hey! shoes aren't comfortable! we are even willing to wear something hideous as long as it's comfortable." I have 2 pair (white and black) and I think they are ugly. But, you know what? They are comfortable and I don't give a crap how I look because I'm saving myself from cramped toes and aches. I think maybe you should find a better way to spend father/son time with your kid.....maybe actually teach him something besides obsessive compulsive disorder.

I have issues with vericose veins at the age of 30. I had very extensive surgery on my one leg to remove several clotted veins. Post op my foot was and still is swollen and unfortunately I have been reduced to wear nothing but flop flops so I can fit my swollen foot into a shoe. Needless to say I have found support in a Croc flop not to mention the little nubbies on the sole help to stimulate blood circulation which I very much need with the few veins I have left. Another big bonus, they don't stink like my other shoes after wearing them without socks for days on end. Like thesunnyc stated they are a blessing for those with medical issues! Not everyone wears things for fashion, sometimes its a must.

Do something productive with your time. Crocs will eventually die out as most popular things do, and another 'annoying' fab will come along. Bashing shoes some people wear, you really must have a lot of time on your hands. Who cares? Why don't you voice your opinion on something that matters?

  • Posted By: PrairieGhost @ 08/05/2008 11:46:47 AM

LOL -- Crocs... What more can you say? I can appreciate that they're comfortable, but I've never understood why adults choose to don the brightest, most visible colors they can, as if they want to draw attention to the unattractive nature of their footwear. I remember the first time I saw Crocs, I thought they looked like the old plastic playgrounds I used to play on at day-care, and was endlessly astounded when I saw them in the higher-dollar stores in town or on the feet of full-grown people. You know what else is comfortable? Earthshoes, and unlike Crocs, they actually look like shoes.

A lot of nurses wear crocs because they are supposedly very comfortable (I've never thought so), and they are easy to clean if you get blood or other bodily fluids on them. I personally think they look ridiculous though - especially brightly colored ones on adults!

You know, I never really liked crocs a whole lot, but when they made it so my handicapped niece could wear something over the braces on her legs, and get a little support from a shoe, so she could walk (with her walker of course), I became quite a fan. They may be unfashionable in this guy's eyes, and maybe a lot of people's eyes, but to a lot of handicapped kids, they are a big help. Something that fits over their braces and doesn't cause blisters. Now I think they are a handy pair of shoes, don't you?
