I'm concerned about drilling platforms in our oceans. I've been on a few of them and I wonder what happens to spilling oil when a platform is taken our by a huricane. Also, if one is distroyed whay about the one next to it.
I don't care what anyone else thinks, but I happen to believe this high priced gasoling and fuel comes in government efforts to break up the love affair Americans have with their vehicles. Beedless to say, the oil needs to be slowly squeezed off, but the love affair will never allow such.

We should drill for oil every where we can.We have to think for the next 25 30 years and our national security.can't fight a war with out reseves in place. We should build a bigger reseve. While all of this is happening-we will be working on all different kinds of energy source and saving energy. There is allot of serious things going on in this world. So we need to have as much oil availbe as we can have.Too much tension between countries and terrorism..Drill every where and all the research we can-coal research,we have plenty of coal.Use all the enegry rersources we have and all the research possible.

All the more reason for the U.S. to get out of the oil game -- causes too many wars, right? What's going to happen when India and China demand their full share of oil, peace? I think not.

Well all the bug lovers will hate this idea. I think it is great, I wish I good put the drill on one of those endangered bug, fish, wildlife, or whatever you want to call it.

Would you carry that bug killing drill around in your Hummer?

Love him or hate him, In all fairness George Bush and gang have kept us from being attacked again by terrorist for 7-1/2 years. Yes give this man a round of applause and hope that the man replacing him can do the same. Mighty big shoes to fill indeed.

Comment: The CIAs basic focus is national security.
Oil is probably our number one or two national securiy issue.
Or at least it will be if we run out without any alternatives.
The CIA puts a significant portion of their $40 billion + dollar annual budget into analyzing oil as a national security issue.
Since none of the oilmen in the White Hosue appear to have any knowledge of these reports, this must be anoher one of those "we didn't have the time to read those report" excuses. Or, my dog ate my homework. Sounds more believable, if you have a dog.
Or maybe they just slept through those briefings.
Or maybe they were all on vacation, at least mentally, for 7 1/2 years.
On the plus side, it makes the planning for the invasion of Iraq look like a work of genius.

Has it been so long that we have forgotten whatnit was like in the early 70's in Los Angelas with the oil dykes offshore. I was there for the last oil spill and helping to try to save the birds and mop up the mess! It was a disaster and the buissnesses Tourisim, local citizans, and the ocean all suffered. We need to move on to find new resources to satisfiy our oil greed. Let the oil companies use the existing leases they have, enhance the knowledge we already have with vehicles that can run without gas to make it afforable for all. Let us show the world we can over come our oil dependencies and end Opec and big oil 's hold on us. Repulbican, Democrat does not matter, it hurts us all and in the end there will be no oil left or wors no mankind.

  • Posted By: luckylarry @ 08/01/2008 10:15:17 PM

The reason they are not drilling these is because these leases hold slim chances of producing any signicant oil. Using the Ice cream philosphy one could say eat your small dish of vanilla but do not touch that double banana split across the table. As for thinking, we have wasted to much time doing just that, we need action before time starts running out on the most endangered species: The American Family.

There are politcal action committees, lobbyists, etc., who form powerful coalitions in Washington -- hey, there are more of us, how about we form our own mandate and demand the candidates spell out their complete, factual, do or die energy policy right here, right now before anybody casts a vote? I'm tired of hearing about Paris Hilton and Brittney and the banter back and forth. Give us some substance. We deserve it.

  • Posted By: luckylarry @ 08/01/2008 9:47:05 PM

I whole heartily agree to change our dependence on oil and go to alternatives. Their really are no good alternatives in existence nor will their be for at least ten years. We should tap and use our oil reserves and drill and use all this oil now before it is rendered useless. If our stupid Congress would consider the plight of the common working family and allow off shore drilling with say a stipulation to use a percentage of the profits for alternative energy research we could possibly make a smooth transition, instead of starving half the country to death. When Nancy Pelosi fills up her SUV is she thinking where in her budget is she going to cut in order to pay for it? Absolutely not because she has lots of money and too bad for you poor people who don't. Get the do nothing Democratic Congress out this year. My dear father is a life long Democrat because they stand for the common people and look out for the less fortunate. Well I think this is the end of the Democratic Party as they have completely lost touch with realty.

Everyone has 20/20 vision looking back and as all these do nothing Democrats just keep on pointing fingers and passing blame like spoiled little kids. Lets move forward and make a plan to get out of this mess. No more finger pointing! Roll up the sleeves and get to work. How can anyone think that adding oil to the supply side would not help? As I said earlier, we could use this as an incentive for these companies to develop alternatives or else they lose their leases. We need to move forward, good old fashioned positive attitude and get something done. With todays action in the House led by Nancy Pelosi I would be ashamed to admit I was a Democrat.

How many of you heard the close of Congress today? They are now on a five week vacation. The Republicans were trying to bring up the off shore drilling issue and the lame Democrats drowned them out and closed before even considering a vote! I mean what are they thinking? We are drowning out here in Pay Check to Pay Check Land and all they can do is nothing? How freaking ignorant is that? Throw Pelosi, Reid and the rest of this do nothing Democratic Congress out now! Barrick Hussein Obama is now shifting his stand on off shore drilling because it could get him elected. This means he will shift on anything as long as it gets him votes. Although its about time he admitted that John McCain was right again, I still welcome him to start pressing to help the common people in America. Drill now! Drill here!

We have always known, yet been in denial, that oil is a finite resource. I have been begging my congresspeople for years to come up with an alternate plan because sooner or later there will be no more oil. Putting our heads in the sand has not changed the fact that there is not enough oil on the planet to provide oil for everyone who wants it. If we put our ingenuity into alternatives, by the time 10 years is up we will probably have some sustainable source of energy. As far as drilling offshore I don't think it should even be considered until the existing leases have been investigated and drilled if that is workable. Why should the oil companies get more leases before they have used the ones they have? That's like giving a kid more ice cram when he hasn't finished the ice cream he already has. Try thinking things through before you insist on acting.

I firmly believe we are all waiting for some one to do some thing. What happened America? We used to be innovators and people with vision. We don't need to wait for someone to do something, we need to move beyond this, not play the blame game, etc., get over it and move on. My son in law is losing his business, my daughter has already closed up hers and I'm working two jobs so my grandson doesn't have to leave college. Now I'm no brain, never have been but everyone is feeling the pain and despair -- let's be Americans and move beyond the politicians, use our grit and gumption and solve this ourselves.

I AM OUTRAGED AT THE ACTION TAKEN BY NANCE PELOSI TODAY IN THE HOUSE.SHE SHUT DOWN ALL OPERATION AT APPROX 11:30AM BECAUSE REUBLICANS WANTED TO DISCUSS AN ENERGY BILL.SHE REFUSED TO RECOGNIZE A REPUBLICAN AT THE PODIUM AND INSTEAD CALLED FOR AN ADJOURNMENT FOR THE DAY.SHE TURNED OFF THE LIGHTS AND ALL CAMERAS OF THE PRESS.SHE HASN'T ALLOWED AN ENERGY BILL TO BE DISCUSSED FOR OVER THREE MONTHS.SHE WANTS TO "SAVE THE PLANET." WE NEED TO BE SAVED FROM HER. iF OBAMA IS ELECTED PRESIDENT, HE WILL NOT BE THE PRESIDENT.HE IS TOO WEAK AND INEXPERIENCED.NANCY PELOSI WILL BE THE ACTING PRESIDENT.IT IS HER AGENDA THAT WILL REIGN.GOD HELP US ALL.

    • Posted By: klebrun @ 08/01/2008 9:47:53 PM

That woman is damned near as bad as the Republicans. She is taking a 5 week vacation. They took a 7 1/2 year vacation on energy.

Einstein contacted Pres. Roosevelt in 1939 about the feasibility of developing a nuclear weapon. Fortunately or unfortunately, six years later we detonated.

We have a 200-250 year supply of coal as an alternative source of energy. In 7 1/2 years the Bush administration has been unable to get a working model of a pollution free coal burning power plant up and running.

As T. Boone Pickens said, we can't drill our way out of this mess. But it makes for damned good politiics for those who don't understand that any offshore drilling will take a minimum of 10 years to reap any benefits and by then we wil probably be bankrupt.

With a $40 billion per year CIA budget, it is damned hard to believe that the Bush administration didn't know this energy shortage was coming.

My suggestion that, unless you are hard-core right wing, that you direct your outrage where it belongs - the two oil men in the White House.

So it takes 10 years to get results and the gop machine is on the go.
I want an answer before we say go. why are they not drilling where they have the leases?
Will someone tell me why? they all change the subject but no one has answered that question.
In addition if people would vote on I would believe it., and no subsidy to oil companies.

    • Posted By: Texan to da Bone @ 08/01/2008 9:43:28 PM

There is no economicly fesable oil there.

  • Posted By: rtojohnny @ 08/01/2008 9:01:04 PM

why can we just use the oil we drill here and stop exporting it ?

    • Posted By: morales59 @ 08/01/2008 9:43:10 PM

Because Corporations rule the land and if they can get more money else where they will!!!
Even if we drill more, the oil companies will simply sell it to the highest bidder not keep it here to help lower prices.

  • Posted By: janilu2 @ 08/01/2008 9:42:41 PM

Yeah, wake up to what? I can imagine what it must have felt like for the folks who sold horses when society moved away from horse and buggy to the automobile. Well, we're in that transition period now and guess what, there are opportunities to be had if you look forward to the future and quit looking backwards or are you still saddling up the old gray mare?

  • Posted By: stephen.Lawson @ 08/01/2008 6:48:56 PM

Ridiculous! That oil won't be available for decades and will be sold on the open market. It will have minimal effects on price. Why do people fall for this stuff?

Big oil has been begging for ANWAR and off shore drilling for years, anybody think the price of gas is 4+ dollars just to change our minds about that. Offshore drilling will create a toxic nightmare and drilling ANWAR will not help at all. Big oil and bush think the USA is filled with frightened stupid people, lets not prove them right

    • Posted By: Texan to da Bone @ 08/01/2008 9:39:26 PM

The Fascists cannot run on the issues such as the economy, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the zero foreign policy, so they have to create an issue they can garner some votes. They have done that with the bashing illegal immigrants and depicting them as the new enemy. They use the gay issue, abortion, and religious issues to radicalize certain groups for their vote, and after the election is over they do absolutely nothing. Did the speculators or the robber baron oil companies create the conditions for the dramatic increase in gas pump prices, or di both do that. Go to Baker Hughes .com or call 1-800-969-7447 to check out the number of rigs drillin on land and offshore for this year and last year, The robber baron oil companies have millions of acres of leases to drill on but they are not drilling on them. Why? Do you remember the California energy shortage scam. Is this just another scam?

    • Posted By: Texan to da Bone @ 08/01/2008 9:37:24 PM

There is not enough oil there. Oil isn't everywhere. 90 Billion Barrles and 1/4 of all the matural gas in the world are in Anwar. Oil shale in Colorado has more oil that the Sadis, Ask your Fav environmentalest. Drill Here Drill Now.
