What do I like about Obama. He is the real straight talk, not what McCain claims to be. He tells black people what they don't like to hear about race issue and also he tails white people what they don't want to hear about race issue. To me, that's straight talk and moral courage. He is the real deal America need today. America will never have this opportunity, if they miss out on Obama

A man as old as Mc Cain is not up to zesty attacks. The only talent that he possesses for the office of president is that if elected he could serve as a backup pilot on Air Force One. Just like riding a bicycle. After you've flown and crashed a few fighter jets, you can still fly. I didn't say that he could land it, but it's a cinch he could fly it if the pilots had a heart attack or something. He'd probably try to land it on an aircraft carrier just like old times. Just thought that I'd get into the spirit of bickering instead of discussing the issues. Mc Cain is just like Betty Grable and Veronica Lake. All celebrity and no substance. He is too popular to be capable of running a whole country. Just another pretty face. A pretty old one at that. I think that Betty Grable and Veronica Lake are more his speed. Britney Spears is young enough to be his great granddaughter. Someone on another blog was trying to establish that Mc Cain is flatulent, but I think that this is probably a vicious rumor. It would be more likely that at his age he simply cannot control his bowels and would consider it way too dangerous to even attempt to break wind. He will probably be elected because of his popularity. Engaging ways. Ask Mrs. Mc Cain how sweetly he talks to her when she puts on too much makeup. Little does he know how she gets even with him for these gratuitous insults. I don't want to let the secret out, but he does complain to her of a funny taste in his morning coffee. Mc Cain, you can't stay ahead of a younger woman. Lay off of the insults and get a better cup of coffee.

McCain calls Obama an elitist, while dragging Paris Hilton and Britney Spears into his sandbox. Like them or not, they are American citizens too and his lack of sensitivity towards other humans is as vicious as the paparazzi. When Obama wins, he has led an honorable campaign and could actually still have the respect and support of McCain if McCain can grow up. If McCain were to win, how could he have a person's respect after his kindergarten antics?

    • Posted By: mattgilman @ 08/03/2008 2:30:47 PM

so when obama looks down on the good folks of middle america and says they cling to guns and religion because they are unhappy, that is respect for all americans? when his spirtiual advisor and mentor says that america is responsible for 9/11, thats respect for American? puh-leeese...you democrats will have to find another line fo attack than that

      • Posted By: CB-Houston @ 08/03/2008 3:18:06 PM

Ok, I'll take you on... How about John McCain being OFFICIALLY FOUND BY CONGRESS TO HAVE "POOR JUDGMENT"??? How about a First Lady that is a FELON AND STOLE FROM A CHILDREN'S CHARITY TO FEED HER DRUG HABIT? How's that for another line of attack.

McCain lost my vote the first time he accused Obama of lacking good judgment. How the heck would he know good judgment? What a loser!

        • Posted By: mattgilman @ 08/03/2008 3:46:44 PM

it was poor judgment to oppose the surge. It was poort judgment to claim last year that the troops should come home in 16 months when he hadnt spoken to the generals and the surge hadnt begun working. It's poor judment today to say that the surge hasnt been successful. It was poor judgement to have as his mentor Jeremiah Wright. And since he really has done very little in his life thus far, it's tough to make many other assessments of his judgements.

          • Posted By: RO in Reno @ 08/03/2008 10:49:12 PM

It was poor judgement to vote to invade Iraq, it was more than poor judgement it was criminal.

How funny or ironic that Malaki, Bush and now McCain all say that the timeframe may be plausible. None of us know how much behind the scenes talik that goes on. None of us are privied to intelligence reports. However, the two candidates are allowed a lot of knowledge only because they are running. So to say he didn't speak to generals directly means to me that you believe everything you see in the MSM. You are to tell me that no conversations go outside the box, without MSM knowing about them? Wow.

      • Posted By: olderwiser @ 08/03/2008 2:39:24 PM

He didn't look down on those people. He looked up to them and bemoaned their plight at the hands of a derelict administration that sent their jobs to foreign countries in order to enrich the contributors who paid for the legislation that make that possible. What he said was true. They are still bitter. They have good cause to be bitter.

        • Posted By: mattgilman @ 08/03/2008 3:39:37 PM

Obama can have the bitter vote. He's bitter...how else to describe a guy that gets mentored by such an anti-American as Jeremiah Wright. 9/11 is america's fault. Even his wife is bitter (1st time she's ever ben proud of this country??) C'mon. If you think he's talking up to the great people that live in Middle America that happen to believe in the right to own guns and actually believe in God, then you have drunk the kool-aid.

          • Posted By: IndependentPatriot @ 08/03/2008 9:31:32 PM

How much longer are the neo-cons going to tout these off-context, blatantly doctored soudbites are proof of Obama's lack of character? It has been proven ad nauseum that Obama and his wife's comments were completely taken out of context for the purposes of smearing/character assassination. You sound like Sean Hannity.......grow up and go learn about the background of these quotes before you rant again to us.

          • Posted By: You are a FOOL @ 08/03/2008 6:37:18 PM

OMG you bought into the bitter argument. WOW, and your remarks are not bitter at all? I think son you need to start drinking more than kool-aid and take some chill lessons.

          • Posted By: mnjam @ 08/03/2008 4:15:57 PM

            You sound bitter.

      • Posted By: AnthonyAfterwit @ 08/03/2008 7:46:25 PM

How about McCain's false smear tactics which have all been discredited by the major media outlets. McCain has no trouble lying to the American people to win an election. How is that respectful? And this is the guy who swore to take the high road. The liars who smeared Kerry with ludicrous swiftboat allegations are the same people running McCain's campaign right now. I say NO to for more years of McSame!

      • Posted By: j.n @ 08/03/2008 6:37:35 PM

Could you please explain what you are trying to say, respect or dis respct, please explain
        thats,what does it mean.

      • Posted By: j.n @ 08/03/2008 6:29:10 PM

You should get your facts straight and not print what you heard someone say.
Obama's pastor,Dr.Wright did not say that America was responsible for 9/11,he quoted ambassador Peck, the ambassador to the middle for thirty two years, that said that 9/11 was the chickens coming home to roost, those are ambassador Peck's words, not Obama's words.

      • Posted By: CB-Houston @ 08/03/2008 3:09:44 PM

I'll relply with another line of attack... How about John McCain being OFFICIALLY FOUND BY CONGRESS TO "LACK GOOD JUDGMENT"??? How about a First Lady that is a felon and has stolen from a childrens charity to feed her drug habit? Is this the best the Repubs have to offer????

Let's see... Obama with a Harvard degree and Editor of the Harvard Law Review - McCain with a ranking of 4th from the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy....

Oh yeah, this is a hard one.... [rolling eyes at the ignorance of your post]

At 72 years old, grumpy and crusty, I feel scared McCain understand his disability and if unchecked will take it out on innocent American people by committing them into another senseless wars.

Secondly, I'm afraid he can't lift his left hand when making a gesture of warning against his disagreements. That disability can be frustrating to him and comes out as one with a lot of hostility within. He is hurting inside and I'm afraid he's going to take it out on American people. He is absolutely a RISKY business.

  • Posted By: midnight05 @ 08/03/2008 12:02:30 PM

McCain's thrust is to label Obama as "arrogant" and "out of touch", code words for "an uppity n****r" and he has surrogates like Lindsay Graham echoing that all over the place in his honey-dripping Southern accent. It is a powerful appeal to the Neanderthals who wouldn't vote for someone of color if Jesus returned. The McCain we used to admire is dead. What now walks the world is a clone, a Stepford McCain echoing the worllds of Karl Rove and others

    • Posted By: IndependentPatriot @ 08/03/2008 10:21:23 PM

"It is a powerful appeal to the Neanderthals who wouldn't vote for someone of color if Jesus returned."

Hysterical, but true. Wait 'till they find out Jesus wasn't a white man. He was of Middle-Eastern descent and had "feet the color of the earth". But honestly, as a WASP myself, I couldn't care less about Jesus' race. To really care is against Christian values to begin with. As for McCain' henchmen.......Neanderthals says it all.........

    • Posted By: mattgilman @ 08/03/2008 2:33:03 PM

again, the obama supporters creating a straw man to try and say that mccain is a racist. obama is the only one that talks about race and accuses boogeymen to say he's being put down because of his race.

      • Posted By: mnjam @ 08/03/2008 4:19:09 PM

McCain is a race-baiting reactionary and a coward. It's plain to the whole world.

Well, I took your advice and read the article. I am appalled by the amount flagrant subjectivity that the author touts as fact. As I read the article, I couldn't help but continually say to myself, "wait a minute, that's not what Obama's own statements reflected!", or "that's an awfully progressive conclusion for the sake of the author's own words".....on and on.........so, NO! The article was a complete waste of time for me. Thank-you, I will be sure to never read anymore articles from the pulp-ficticious pages of the Weekly Standard!

You can see it when he speaks... he's such a fraud. He's going to get killed in the debates.

    • Posted By: acoustech @ 08/03/2008 10:08:07 PM

at least he has something other than a one word mantra... "change".... Obama is the one who will get killed in the debates. Especially if the teleprompter isn't working well that night.

Jonathan, I like John McCain, and have to admit I thought ???Bomb, bomb Iran??? was pretty funny, but I still wouldn???t vote for him for President. ???Bush???s Third Term??? is more than a campaign slogan. To me, it???s a serious warning.

John McCain and George Bush have a lot more in common than the War in Iraq and tax breaks for the rich. Both men grew up in the shadow of successful fathers: one the son of a US President, the other the son and grandson of US Admirals. Both spent their youth drinking and partying, and to this day, they share an irrepressible adolescent urge to horse around at inappropriate times: witness Bush???s surprise backrub of Prime Minister Angela Merkel at the G8 Summit and John McCain???s tendency to veer off-message and tell questionable jokes. Financially, both men were still being bailed out by family and friends (or in McCain???s case, by marriage) well into adulthood Responsibility? Who needs it! Bush ran businesses into the ground while McCain crashed five U.S. Navy jets ??? disqualifying him from the Admiralty but not, apparently, from the Presidency.

Barack Obama, meanwhile, raised by a single mother with none of the advantages of family wealth and position, managed through hard work and intelligence to raise himself to the position of Democratic candidate for President. Whatever else you may think of him, he won???t be just another Daddy???s boy using the Presidency and our future to prove himself to his father.

Thank you Jon Alter! This sick old man is a liar, flip flopper and desperalte soul. This is the "best" the GOP has to offer?? Go OBAMA, kick the old grumpy man's butt!

  • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 08/03/2008 9:47:37 PM

It's not just John McCain, though this is an excellent article. I'd argue it is the entire GOP. And maybe even good chunks of the "richest country in the world" who still lag behind the times and are actually hell-bent on electing another loser for four more years, like they haven't gotten the message yet in eight years...

They all need remedial education and a good dose of common sense - their naivte will be the death of this country.

Blame the GOP, not McSame. He's only following his cookie-cutter marching orders from the GOP / neo-cons. And all the Fundy Christian churches are publishing more fear-mongering slander about Obama - he's a Muslim, secretly, no matter what he says, and he's the "anti-Christ" etc... Are we truly living in the 21st C. in a great country like America -- or are we still witch-hunting and lynching, and doing character assassinations to spite our faces?

It's not the majority of bloggers here, it's that other "majority" of white supremists who populate much of the rural parts of this country. They don't seem to have caught on yet that we're not still fighting the Civil War or that Armageddon is figurative. They believe what they're told, as long as it comes from their preacher or their friends in the congregation.... it's pretty darn scary, none of them read the daily news or entertain differing opinions, nor have they been taught to think critically for themselves. Our educational system is failing our political system.

Was it necessary to repeat that twice? Was it even further necessary to re-post the same pointless message? Besides, the number of years in the military or in Congress do not automatically qualify someone for a job that takes more common sense and people skills than rote years tallied up. Please go read a little before you reply....

  • Posted By: slick59 @ 08/03/2008 4:55:26 PM

Have you seen the video of Obama giving a speech when his teleprompter failed and he had nothing to read? no statements from his speech writer were available? He stopped in the middle of a sentence and could not continue. Then he told the audiance that they needed to be quiet because he couldn't hear himself think. His speech was over he never completed another sentence. He tried but couldn't... Odumba should be his name. Nowonder he doesn't want to meet John McCain in a town hall meeting. Without his teleprompter ((He couldn't hear himself THINK)))???? And you want this FOOL to lead America.Wake up left wing you have no capable candidate to run for the presidental job...just like in 2000 and 2004.

    • Posted By: IndependentPatriot @ 08/03/2008 9:14:51 PM

Actually, in defense of Obama, I have watched many of his interviews (public and private) where he was asked some very poignant questions. His answers were fluid, virtually flawless, and on point. I understand if some people say they simply don't care to have a President that speaks well, but in my opinion I believe this is paramount to a successful Presidency. Diplomacy goes a long way in this world.....

    • Posted By: Fisherman144 @ 08/03/2008 6:20:56 PM

You have the people confused. It was McCain who couldn't concentrate or continue his speach without the GOP script. Obama is so much more intelligent and poised that it must be very hard for him to hold back laughter when McCain is trying to speak. Bush gets the English language messed up, but McCain isn't even close to Bush.....Can you say Nucular?

  • Posted By: arbid @ 08/03/2008 7:20:16 PM

I remember when there was respect for McCain, even from those who disagreed with him. Now, he has discarded all the truth and principles he has always stood for. Given his memory lapses, confusion over countries, borders, leaders (Putin/germany???), and previous votes, as well as how erratic the mismanagement of his campaign has been, I have to wonder if he is developing alzheimers. I realize this is not PC, but considering his age, mental status, and behavior, this is a major concern

    • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 08/03/2008 9:09:28 PM

I'd argue your concern is a very legitimate one. I have no doubt McCain will finish his first term. My concern is his running-mate. If he picks someone like Mitt Romney, who is more arrogant than Bush (if you can conceive of such a thing) then we are indeed screwed.

  • Posted By: midnight05 @ 08/03/2008 9:09:24 PM

We have had eight years of brain-dead leadership and we don't need four more. McCain is running an overtly racist campaign and that is disgusting. I would have voted for the McCain of 2000 had he won the nomination but I cannot even bring myself to listen to the McCain of 2008, hiding behind his Aryan wife and making comments (barely disguised) about "uppity n*****rs" running for President instead of happily picking cotton and eating watermelon. The Presidency is not a white job, John McCain. It's a job for someone intelligent and you're not.

  • Posted By: ebarryhill @ 08/03/2008 9:08:31 PM

McCain sold his soul to the 'devil' by hiring Karl Roves protege to coordinate this smear campaign agaist Obama. If Obamas people read this blog, ATTACK back. The people who are going to vote for are not going to be anything but ECSTATIC, TO KNOW YOU CAN THROW A PUCH AS WELL AS RECEIVE ONE!

Sure Doobie Roller, Obama controls the supply of oil with his magic wand. Bush and Cheney, two oil men in the White House had nothing to do with the price of oil more than doubling in the last seven years.

But you also know that your argument backfires on you, don't ya? If, as you say, a junior Senator is capable of controlling the supply of oil, then we should fire the moron president who is allowing it to happen.

Mc Cain is a nose picking, butt scratching, age induced Alzheimered, wife cussing, over the hill and forgetful, vulgar minded old fart who is being put up for office by the same bunch who put Bush in office and then stole all of his power to wage unjust and unwise war in order to fill pockets already bulging with the nation's fortune. If you really like what we have witnessed for the past eight years, then don't fail to vote for Mc Cain. If you would like to change this ruinous conduct, then don't vote for this old reprobate.

I dare say that McCain wouldn't have attracted such large crowds had he been in attendance himself. We have hope and pride in our candidate and it really showed today. Gobama!
