Jon Alter was a HUGE McCain cheerleader. If he is writing articles such as this one, who the heck is left from the press that actually will take what McCain says at face value? Faux News, that's who. They'll whip out the "liberal media" tag for Mr. Alter, as if there was such a thing as "liberal" media in the mainstream. Thank you sir for finally telling the truth about Mr. McCain's incompetence with the issues. It's only a sign of what to expect from him as president. It is being said that this election is about Barack Obama. That is rightwing talking point hogwash. This election is about the trainwreck that this country has become over that last 8 years and if we want that to continue. The way Mr. McCain is behaving, he is saying loud and clear that he is going to give us exactly that.

Than you Jonathan, for this article. I'm an independent voter, who will not vote for McCain because of this MAD KID at the schoolyard ways of attacking Sen. Barack, with this nonsense he call ADS. He said he proud of the way his campaign is being run. Well not me, he is the biggest FLIP/FLOP around.
Trying to tear down a person and you me to vote for you? NO WAY!

Yes, they are trying to put FEAR in voter's with this TRASH and they are PLAYING THE RACE CARD.
On MAY 17, he said something like, we will run a civil campaign and you there is no place for disrescept of a opponent.
    FLIP/FLOP!
So his silly/and or childest AD did work on me, I'm voting for Sen.Barack Obama in NOV.

And so am I! Planet earth and its people are counting on us to do the right thing, by voting for Barack Obama, 44th United States President, 2008! Happy Birthday, Barack Obama!

    • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 08/03/2008 7:42:19 PM

Actually funny you should say this. The mad kid in the school yard was McCain's stance in his early years. He's just reverting to character.

The American media has long hidden from the public the astonishing fact that as a long term US Senator, John McCain has only a rudimentary understanding of both domestic and national security issues. His petulant, spoiled child disposition makes him un- presidential. He is a reckless individual. A vote for him is a reckless, irresponsible vote. This concerted racist campaign he has now decided to run demonstrates he has no decency. In the last week, he has made it perfectly clear that his campaign is based on the rebirth of Jim Crow era politics. The incessant comments that Senator Obama is presumptuous, arrogant and/or cocky are all code words for he is an uppity Negro who can???t be trusted to know his place. Along with the constant red security alerts, which the Bush administration will start up within the next month, it wouldn???t be surprising for McCain-Bush to propose a national poll tax before the November election. America is struggling after 16 years of Clinton and Bush. McCain would be the final nail in America???s coffin.

Actually, America is not recovering from the Clinton years, America RECOVERED during the Clinton years. The biggest economic expansion in American history happened under Clinton and he managed to balanced the budget for the first time in many years. He also left a surplus, which disappeared in no time under Bush. Don't believe the hype, in spite of his criticized campaign for Hillary, Bill Clinton was one of the best presidents of the 20th Century. Don't take my word for it, look at the numbers; GDP, Ginni Index, unemployments rates, low inflation rates, etc. It's all in black and white. Pro Life people should know that there were LESS abortions 1993-2001 than 2001-2007 because the economy and the social net were stronger.

What I find disturbing about McCain is his conviction that he is the right man to lead the war in Iraq, when he didn't even know a few months ago (and seven years after 9-11) what the difference between a Shiite and a Sunni was!

Thank you so much for doing diligent research and setting the record straight! You give credit where credit is due. Please keep up the good work. I hope that your message reaches tens of millions of American voters, some of whom already know the truths you have shared.

      • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 08/03/2008 7:45:06 PM

Its not crazy, its just that complex concepts are way over their head.

The Mc Cain campaign has gone into panic mode, fearful of the popularity of his opponent and the apparent senility and inability of Mc Cain to express himself in any convincing way as he whistles through his teeth like an old man in an ad for denture glue. He can't remember a complete sentence and constantly looks down at the material that he is given to read. There is no way that a man in his condition can handle the job of head of state of Lichtenstein, much less the United States of America. His campaign is aware of his increasing inability to function and is attacking viciously with the most spurious of material trying to somehow belittle Obama as a teenage girl. This scrapes below the bottom of the Rove barrel of dirty tricks.

    • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 08/03/2008 7:39:53 PM

I have to agree with your assessment in its entirety. Its really too bad McCain and the Republicans have come to this low estate.

  • Posted By: Fisherman144 @ 08/03/2008 6:05:48 PM

The American People have an innate ability to 'finally' see the truth. McCain is an old curmudgeon who is loosing it in his own mind. He needs the Puppet Masters of the GOP to even run a campaign. He missed the opportunity to do something good for us ten years ago. It's a shame, but McCain must yield to those who can lift this Country up and polish our image around the world. We can't police every country or force them to do anything they resist. Let's help with a change by showing the way and leading by example. Obama is the obvious choice.

    • Posted By: graphtheorist @ 08/03/2008 7:38:11 PM

I totally agree! And I speak for millions of abundantly patriotic American voters. By the way, Barack Obama told GM, Ford and Chrysler years ago that it was time for them to build cars that get better gas mileage, an/or run on alternative fuels. How patriotic is that? What kind of judgment and leadership does that show?
What America needs now is a president who has good judgment. Someone who is cool, calm and collected. Not part of the Old Boys' network or the Anheuser-Busch beer lobby. We need the 21st century president, the champion in the fight against global warming, that good people across the globe are counting on us to elect. I will let you figure out who that is.

    • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 08/03/2008 7:26:34 PM

I agree the American People will finally see the truth. Let's hope it's sometime before election day. The Republicon's are betting they won't.

As someone who was a hard-line McCain supporter in 2000, I have become sadly dismayed with the way this campaign is being run. Instead of attacking his opponent at every twist and turn, he is wasting precious time that should be devoted to Maverick type solutions to the overwhelming myriad of problems we face as Americans. McCain's refreshing Straight Talk in 2000 mesmerized the people and a grassroots following picked up his banner with gusto and without fear. As a divorced mother of three teens and someone who works with the homeless in the inner city, I WANT TO KNOW how different my life will be with John McCain at the helm. He is truly a patriot, a hero, one who is able to cross the aisles and reach out to Democrats and others. He is best without teleprompters - being himself without the trappings associated with the analysis of paralysis. John, the country is waiting for feasible answers on the economy, taxes, foreclosures, healthcare, the poor, the native americans, immigration, the war on terror, education and our seniors. As a believer in America and all our goodness, could you please show us what you are made of, how serious you are about fixing these problems in our society and your SOLUTIONS. We are waiting and time is running out.

    • Posted By: graphtheorist @ 08/03/2008 7:22:30 PM

John McCain does have a policy for the Native Americans. It is described at www.cain2008.org.

    • Posted By: pinkpanther87413 @ 08/03/2008 6:47:19 PM

The way he is acting today, we will get those answers, when the puppetters got them, to give. Bush is doing his best to take McCain down with him.

  • Posted By: arbid @ 08/03/2008 7:09:53 PM

I remember back when you might disagree with McCain, but at least you could still respect him for sticking to his guns. Now I have to wonder if all his erratic behavior and inability to stay focussed, along with his failure to remember countries, which groups are wich, what countries are led by who, etc are early signs of alzheimers. I realize this is not P.C., but it is a major consideration for someone who is in that age group and is making incresinly frequent mistakes.

When the McCain campaign asserts that anyone who prefers protein bars over pig rinds is unqualified to be president, it shows just how petty and trivial his campaign has become.

When his ads claim that Obama, a United States Senator, is no more qualified to be president than are Britney Spears or Paris Hilton, he insults our intelligence.

When he states that he was "just having fun" with his recent series of juvenile, negative ads, he comes across like a 5th grade boy trying to justify his right to pick on other kids.

In short, the McCain campaign's recent antics epitomize the old adage, "ethics have no place in politics".

The idiot fool John McCain hit the campaign trail this morning in typical bumbling fashion. Attempting to answer questions on the economy he again quickly regressed into his usual labeling of Barak Obama as a celebrity. In his mind I???m sure that his pollsters tell him he on the right track, but being the antiquated tool of the republican neo-con extremist right wing that he is, he is oblivious to the fact that every celebrity that has run for office in the last twenty years has won by a landslide.

That being said his juvenile line of diversion, obfuscation and all of McCain???s lies by omission not withstanding the old man still genuinely believes that no-one will go back and look at his failed record in congress before the November election. He accuses Obama of being a speech maker yet McCain???s lack of substance on every issue is stupefying. From pitiful pandering to every audience even if he contradicts himself over and over again, day after day, to thinly disguised ultra right wing bush-isms clouded by bloviations on virtue and patriotism. Can anyone remember the felonious flag burning issue of Daddy Bush, or the Fuzzy Math of George W. Bush? In both cases look where we ended up, a failed economy and a needless war with war profiteers running away with the American economy. John McCain will be no different and possibly much worse given the serious issues that stand before us.

The same liars who handled the Bush campaign are now handling McCain. He's just another republican tool. And he's mean.

  • Posted By: abbarick @ 08/03/2008 10:36:46 AM

B)Yes, I quite agree that the McCain camp is bent on playing the race card. After all, Obama took the pain to humble himself by reminding his audience abroad that he is just a citizen and refused to be compared to past US presidents who also gave speeches abroad. He was not by that employing the race card except one who is seeking to and wants take any chance to interpret it that way. He was only making a distinction that those others were presidents who made presidential speeches while his, as an ordinary citizen, was not. The McCain camp and the Republican Party may have reason to be unhappy to the kind of presidential reception given Obama as compared to the little attention paid to McCain during his own European tour. However that grudge should be directed at the European hosts and not at Obama.

On what ground is the McCain Campaign describing Obama as arrogant if not on racial ground? Obama is campaigning against McCain on the basis of equality as American, period! That is making McCain furious because Obama is not going about as a victim of something begging for and looking pity. To McCain that is arrogance for a minority. What is wrong with Obama undertaking a European tour just like McCain did? Was it Obama's fault that he received a far better welcome abroad than McCain? Was it Obama that arranged his own receptions in Europe? Was it Obama that arranged for 200,000 people to come to listen to his speech in Germany? Was it Obama's fault that his trip abroad naturally received a far better press coverage than McCain's due to the same reason(s) that make him more attractive to people at home in the US and abroad? If it is Obama's skill that is responsible making him inspiring to many people, maybe McCain should go and learn some too if its not too late. But if its a natural gift in him, as is more likely, then maybe McCain should pray for some too if its not too late. Whatever the case may be McCain has no justification for grumbling over Obama's success where he had tried and failed. That would make him look like a bad loser.

I am Abbarick. And I approve this message

    • Posted By: mattgilman @ 08/03/2008 11:02:32 AM

I had yet to hear John McCain say anything about race except to praise Obama in front of the NAACP. Obama talks about and says John McCain will somehow use race in the campaign, coming periously close to inferring McCain is a racist, and he is supposed to say nothing?? Maybe if Barrack Obama stopped talking about race, we could have a race free from racially issues.

      • Posted By: MaryanneAZ @ 08/03/2008 3:29:07 PM

Who is more able to discuss race than a man who is Black/Bi-Racial? It is one thing for a Black man to identify himself as he sees himself, but it is another thing entirely for a White candidate to define that same candidate with stereotypes that do not apply to the candidate in any way. O'bama is not married to a White blond woman (as many athletes and actors of race tend to do--another stereotype). O'bama is not a lazy criminal and does not fit any other stereotype that we have of Black men in America. O'bama is a self-made man who used his intelligence and grit to realize his educational goals and public service job goals. There is nothing wrong with any American who gets a good education and then decides to serve the public. It is also apples to oranges to claim that Mc Cain has more "experience" than O'bama who is 25 years his junior. It would only make sense to compare Mc Cain's resume with O'bama's by looking back at Mc Cain's resume when he was 47 and seeing what his accomplishments were compared to O'bama today. BTW, Mc Cain is saying plenty about race by allowing his campaign to create and circulate ads with both direct and subtle race bias in them. O'bama has run a completely honorable campaign. He has my vote. O'bama '08

        • Posted By: mattgilman @ 08/03/2008 3:50:20 PM

I have no problem with Barack Obama saying "I am black" but to say "john mccain and the republicans are going to try and scare you because i'm black" is completely different. It's accusing someone of something offensive whne it hasn't happened. It's unfair and wrong.

McCain is a race-baiting reactionary, a parasite and a scoundrel. He???s a guy who got into the Naval Academy because his father was an Admiral then wasted his time (and our money) drinking and partying, finishing 894 out of 899. He then went onto a "brilliant" career as a Naval Aviator, crashing 5 jets, destroying millions of dollars in public property and starting a fire on the USS Forrestal that killed hundreds of US sailors. His last crash was over N. Vietnam, where he surrendered to the enemy and denounced this country. He returned home, could not make Admiral (despite being a ???war??? hero and the son and grandson of Admirals). So he betrayed his faithful wife, married a new rich wife before he was even divorced, and used her money to launch a political career. This lout has never worked a day in his life, living off the public from day one, except for a few months ???working??? for his father-in-law. He is a drunk. He is addicted to gambling. He took bribes from Charles Keating. He is an intemperate hothead. He cheats on his second wife. He???s still bragging about killing ???gooks.??? In 22 years in the Senate, he passed ONE bill, McCain-Feingold, which he now seeks to overturn. The most worthless and unqualified individual ever to run. The Republicans were right to reject him in 2000.

on another note: when john mccain was 47, he had fought in Vietnam and had already been a prisoner of war for 5 years and served his country admirably. heck, he'd probably been in Congress longer than Obama too. Obama was regularly using drugs in college and graduated from harvard law school and been a community organizer and follower of jeremiah wright. I'll take john mmcain's resume at 47. thank you.

Army officials refute claim of Barack Obama snub in Afghanistan
    By James Gordon Meek
    DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU
    Updated Friday, July 25th 2008, 10:05 AM
WASHINGTON - The latest chain e-mail smear against Barack Obama: He "blew off" troops at an Afghan base to shoot hoops for a publicity photo.
The letter was apparently written by a Utah Army National Guard intelligence officer in a linguist unit at Bagram Airfield who claimed the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee was rude to G.I.s.
"As the soldiers where [sic] lined up to shake his hand he blew them off," wrote the Task Force Wasatch "battle captain."
But angry Army brass debunked the Obama-bashing soldier's allegations, which went viral Thursday over the Web and on military blogs such as Blackfive.
The e-mail claims Obama repeatedly shunned soldiers on his way to the Clamshell - a recreation tent - to "take his publicity pictures playing basketball."
"These comments are inappropriate and factually incorrect," said Bagram spokeswoman Army Lt. Col. Rumi Nielson-Green, who added that such political commentary is barred for uniformed personnel.
Obama didn't play basketball at Bagram or visit the Clamshell, she said. Home-state troops were invited to meet him, but his arrival was kept secret for security reasons.
"We were a bit delayed ... as he took time to shake hands, speak to troops and pose for photographs," Nielson-Green said.
E-mails to the officer who made the charges and a call to his wife were not returned.

Well tell me then, out of curiosity if by happenstance that Obama does win, are you going to leave the country? Are you going to hide under a rock? Or will your life go on? Pouting and saying if I win nanananana my gosh how old are you?

This country has many issues, which one of the dozen do you want to pick first? Gasoline, quagmire, healthcare, people chosing between eating and filling their tank, social security, immigration, budget, recession possibility, unemployment, heating oil for the winter or food, the next four years being a mirror of these past eight years.

Post after the debates and see if you feel the same way. The rest of this is all chestbeating bs by you and everyone else here including myself that posts. Lets see what happens after the conventions. Four years ago we couldn't post like this either.

He's where he is today because he worked/studied to get there. If walking the cheese aisle with some Republican plant and riding around with old Bush is facing the real issues of today, God help us. And if he's our foreign policy expert, then he better learn that there is no Iraq/Pakistan border. This guys senile ...we've already had eight years of one idiot. Do we have to trade that one in for this one? I hope not!

obama for much of his adult has been hobnobbing with black muslims (he went to the million man march, sat in a church where Lou farikahn was often praised), the black counter part to White Nazis,. if mccain had been running with nazis for most of his adult life he would not be in the running. people ought to have theirs heads examined to even consider someone who has such close ties to blatant fanatical racism as Obama. This guy, obama. is beyond the fringe!!!!!!!!

Obama deserves our praise and admiration for knowing many sides and positions. This gives him tremendous advantage over McCain in International affairs. A President must know the worst and the best so America can be the leading power, once again.

    • Posted By: MsIndependent2 @ 08/03/2008 3:26:04 PM

The Million Man March was attended by 1 million + men of many races. If you did not attend, don't try to speak about the attendees. My white husband attended that march and he is a Christian. The march was for unity and did not reference religion. It was non-denominational and was an attempt to bridge the gap between those afraid of other based on religion. As for Louis Farrakan, he has said many hateful things against Jewish people, which many find disgraceful. But, he has become an accepted figure among many christians because of the good things he has done in the African Ameican community. He nor Wright define who Sen. Obama and the same goes for Lindsey Graham & Farwell -- they do not define McCain. The word IF is such a powerful word. IF we lived in a society where the color of man's skin did not matter, we would be better off.
