Comment: PEople need there hearts cleaned as well, that is where evil starts, in the toughts of the heart. IF people cared more aboout eachother the fallen ness of man and the human condition could be countered. I think that cleaning up a neighborhood is great , but the greater problem is selfishness and greed that causes destruction. I would hope we could combat drug addiction and build honest communities , to deal with our autonomy and individuality , and selfish desires , the rest would fall into place. But versus nature , we will lose, the earth is passing. Put on all the armor you want but clean sometimes is only an appearance. Nazi Germany was quite a clean place at one time, clean streets and clean looking folks around town. As far as i know about science it is the nature that has a way of cleaning itself out, it people that perish and fade. Bad monkeys! We are all one, only if God made us, unite for the kingdom of heaven is here. Jesus still saves!

Comment: West Oakland is the only community I've lived in where residents discard their mattresses and couches on the street corner. The city picks them up (at taxpayer's expense), but the following weeks there is more garbage and debris just casually thrown on the street. Hopefully these youths will bring some sense of pride to the city. I am a bit cynical but wish them luck!

Comment: Bravo!! In these hard economic times it's great for kids to do something like this to help the earth, especially since corporate greed has shipped all the jobs to foreign lands. Bravo!

Comment: The students are part of a global movement to empower communities to monior and clean up their own commnities - rather than depend on government and industry. Global Community Monitor is an international human rights organization that trains and empowers people to take back their air, water and land from polluters and bureacrats who are not accountable.

Comment: Next time Oakland complains about job loss and lack of tax revenue, you can thank your yound activist for saving the planet. You had better learn to raise farm crops and animals, because there will be very few opportunities for creating wealth and therefor more jobs to be able to put food on your table.

Comment: Looks like even more restrictive legislation coming from crazy California in the future when these youngsters get into positions of power.

Comment: The Health and Environment Action Network (HEANaction.org) is a project of the National Alliance for Hispanic Health and is supported by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. HEAN, which I help promote, is doing absolutely remarkable things in four pilot areas (South Brooklyn, NY; Brownsville, TX; Watsonville, CA and Detroit, MI). The project, initiated by the Alliance's president and ceo Dr. Jane Delgado, equips young Hispanic students and community volunteers with Eco-Pacs that allow them to track and record air and water pollution where they live, go to school and even work. It's an empowering project that will show results for years to come.
