    THE TOM BRADLEY EFFECT.....
Obama simply cannot win. Too much is known about him now, especially the list of all his pals. Despite all of the ultra left-wing socialist weeping and hand wringing, here's EXACTLY what WILL happen on election day (and you know in your heart that it's true): It won't matter one iota what people have told pollsters. It won't matter at all if Obama and his socialist coven, Nancy Lugosi etc., are up by 10% on the last day. The Sheeple smile and tell pollsters what pollsters want to hear because the Sheeple have had PCness pounded into them for the last forty years. But as sure as God made green apples they're going to step into those voting booths and they're going to think about Rev. Wright, Obama's wife, the O.J. trial, Al Sharpton, Marion Barry, the Shabaz Fish Shop, the murders and rapes in cities, and recently near colleges, on the TV news, the behavior of the Katrina crowd when Texas took them in and gave them shelter, the L.A. riots, the Miami riots, Cops, America's Most Wanted, the Bloods, the Crips, Ludicris, not feeling safe when they take their families to the movies at night, and they're going to punch the chad for......McCain. They will prefer bland McCain to Obama and ultra left-wing socialism and the prospect of the USA becoming Haiti in four short years. End of story.

That is the most ignorant thing I have ever heard. What Bush and all of his crimes against America!!! Educate yourself dude.

Enits time for you to grow up...what Crimes aginst America?

    • Posted By: wgoin @ 08/04/2008 1:41:13 PM

To PutTheLotionInTheBasket: What an utterly ignorant post. Not everyone is as biased and idiotic as you give them credit for. And Obama is no more ultra left-wing socialist than you are intelligent.

      • Posted By: ssbn777 @ 08/04/2008 1:46:29 PM

"Ignorant" is the first word used by liberal idiots who don't have a real justification for their argument. "Racist" is the second, btw....

Self-centered is the one I think of...

        • Posted By: zbaby2 @ 08/04/2008 1:53:32 PM

Ok....I'll rephrase, unfounded, uneducated and ridiculous. Is that better? Its not about being conservative or liberal; its about looking past the conspiracy garbage and hatemongering and realizing the way we've being going about doing things is wrong? Why does America have the worst and most expensive healthcare system in the industrialized world? Why is our economy sh*t? Why has our global reputation been tarnished? What happened to the economic surplus that we had at the end of the Clinton administration? Why is our gas $4.00 a gallon? Come on people!! Its because of greed, lies and deception. I dont know about you, but I'm ready for anything better than what we have now and McCain is not it.
P.S. Im a born and raised Southern who believes in the Truth....not smoke and mirrors.

I'll answer your question. Ignore all of Obama's socialist-leaning, welfare-state vague platitudes and pretty speeches. Ignore McCain's old-fool bumbling, too. Read Ron Paul's book, and put people in office that follow that ideology. No more expensive foreign wars or wasteful foreign aid payments, and no more robbing Peter to pay Paul here at home.

well said.I am tired of the media trying to push voters to elect Obama. How did he come up so fast. Where are his funding really coming from?

  • Posted By: newmexicothinker @ 08/04/2008 2:45:56 PM

Interesting and compeling article, but I find it very strange that Mr. Obama's middle name is emphasized in the opening lines while the likes of our current failed president are left at "W." Me thinks the author had other motives in doing this, say along the lines of emphasizing purported Islamic ties! Very sly way of carrying out one's own agenda under the cover of objective reporting! Give us a break!.

  • Posted By: ben 1010 @ 08/04/2008 2:22:36 PM

The biased press is a bigger problem than many people think. I'm tired of "journalists" and their biased comments following Republican candidates speeches. Americans should have the dignity of drawing their own conclusions. There should be a "no spin zone" after a candidate clinches a nomination.

    • Posted By: not.your.change @ 08/04/2008 2:45:43 PM

I think you made an excellent point. Allow the candidate to speak and allow everyone to decide for themselves what was said.

I am a Northerner now living in the South (Montgomery, AL). As outlined in this article I have learned the South's political and social dynamic is complex. However, the Democratic primaries in PN, OH, and KY exposed the racial and social divisions that are just as glaring in parts of the North as the traditional South. The roots of these divisions also need to be explored.

Fisrt of all southern bornand raised, I was not rambling, If you had read everything I said, and not just glance thru it , it was about my experience traveling thru the southern part of this country . It was a valid point of holding on to mindset that still exists after all these yrs., hundreds of yrs to be exact and the shock of being confronted with a mindset I didn't think really still existed in a supposedly civilized society, albeit, my travels wre 20 yrs. ago. I read this article all the way thru did you? I have nothing against the south and could give a flying flip about the civil war, And maybe the south does wanna move forward like the rest of the world, but this article was about the effects of racism and the after effects of certain periods inits history abd what it means to the elections.

  • Posted By: tnvoter @ 08/04/2008 1:35:18 PM

I am white and I am from the south. I will not vote for Obama. Not because he is black but because he just does not understand the danger America faces. We need a Leader not a motivational speaker. His hollow words will not protect us from our enemies. If you ask him a straight question, you get a smile and pep talk. Never a straight answer. This man scares me, not because he's black but because he's BLANK!!!!!!!

it's simple if you wish to save our oil for 200 yrs., ride a bike or use horse and buggy and become a3rd. world country at the hands of dictators ( dem. party ) then vote dem. case inpoint pelosi and reid.in wash. nothing more arrogantthan to ignore the american voter. 75% of people hurting and were does pelosi and reid go on vac for 5 weeks. we can't even afford a vac. also look at mich. its been under dem rule for 5 yrs and in a recession for 4 yrs. learn from mich. mistakes.

  • Posted By: trheelstate @ 08/04/2008 2:29:12 PM

In regards to this story by Newsweek being a 'discrace to true journalism', the reason this story was written was because of one of the guiding principles of what makes the news, and that is, 'newsworthiness'.
The public does not seem to care for another story about a white, traditionally middle-aged, if not older, politician running for the presidency of the United States. Hasn't this been the case for the greater part of history?
As great as Sen. McCain may be, the point of this article is that, here and now, you have the potential for a shift the the political geography of a traditionally red region. More so, you have younger people and various sects of the public interested in the presidential race for once, and not many who would be so apt to be apathetic to the election either because 1. Obama or 2. the Bush legacy. Regardless of whatever 'empty promises and hope' Mr. Obama provides, he has done enough to at least get the public interested.

  • Posted By: kelra @ 08/04/2008 2:21:35 PM

its simple. if you wish to become a socialist country and save your oil for about 200 yrs and return to bikes and buggies . than vote for a dictatorship ( dem ). just look at how pelosi in the house and reid in the senate our controling the votes. everything needs 60% to pass. another way of seeing the future is just look how the dems our running mich. ( 5 yrs in a recession )

You are more backward that you could even understand with your comments...

  • Posted By: rapidron @ 08/04/2008 1:52:36 PM

Hokeypokie... you know he's not 'drilling' into the reserves right?

    • Posted By: ssbn777 @ 08/04/2008 1:59:03 PM

In order to accommodate the expediency for which the Obamessiah (PBUH) wants to deplete the reserves, "drilling" might be a description of that act that isn't far off from the truth....

      • Posted By: rapidron @ 08/04/2008 2:24:18 PM

Isn't drilling what McCain wants to do anyway?

And yet, to say going into the reserves is 'drilling' is blatantly false. Reserves while moving away from oil like a bat out of hell (within 10 years or less with oversight) does not seem unreasonable, does it?

Newsweek needs to fix this discussion tool. This thing sucks. They pay retards to write, but can't even have a decent blogging tool.

  • Posted By: Charles_BCCA @ 08/04/2008 1:52:27 PM

I am 70 year old and this upcoming US Presidential Election is the most important and defining I can think of or even imagine. On one side is the past, represented by McCain and the republicans in conjunction with the Christian right, and they are the elitists, who have no interest in the well being of those who have been hard hit, not only blacks but many more poor as well middle class whites. They are essentially greedy, who want tax breaks for themselves, as they indulge in senseless wars abroad, financed by increasing foreign debt. Voting for them is not in the interest of an average hard working American, whatever pigmentation of their skin. Yet many have and continue to vote against their own self interest. Why? Clever and very deceptive strategy of McCain and his campaign managed by Bush operatives, not that different than the one described in John Grisham???s recent novel ???The Appeal???. While it may work again, as it did for Bush, as it does in the ???The Appeal??? and that book should also be a warning to McCain ???Those who dig holes for the others fall in their own dug holes??? or ???what you sow is what you reap???. The last is also applicable to those who chose to vote for Bush, as they will be the losers.
Obama on the other hand, while not perfect, has been preaching a message of hope and reconciliation between the races. His message is being drowned by clever attacks advertisements by McCain, comparing him to air head pop stars, who in fact are more like his rich wife blonde Cindy McCain than Obama. The latest McCain???s attack is labelling Obama as Anti-Christ, using Charles Hesston from a movie clip. That won???t go unnoticed by paranoid southern who already believe false assertions that Obama is a Muslim and worse.

    • Posted By: ssbn777 @ 08/04/2008 1:57:20 PM

I'm one of those "bitter" Pennsylvanians, and the only "elitist" in this race is Obama. Now will someone please pass the aragula?

      • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 08/04/2008 2:23:11 PM

This type of statement always sounds as though the poster is upset with Obama for the simple fact that Obama is familiar with more than one type of lettuce.

    • Posted By: wgoin @ 08/04/2008 2:01:46 PM

to Charles_BCCA: A good and intelligent post.

In a political race for a presidency, whether it be in the U.S.A or any soveriegn nation, the candidates are going to under go intense scrutiny, as it should be. Whether you like Obama or McCain, thats your Choice and your Right, as also it should be. But, if people, lets be honest, Obama has been attacked by the media in ways McCain hasn't. I don't think I've seen as much media B.S, and disinformation about a candidate as in this presidential race. The media is one of the biggest problems. Most are lackies for the republican parties because most are owned by powerful corporate entities who support the Bush agenda. Most people instead of voting their hopes will vote their fears. I saw that in the 2004 campaign for state and governing representitives in my own state when they kept certain people in office who have benn pilfering and draining the coffers of my state. And another state rep. who i will not name who changed her tune 2 or 3 times during her reign. This no different @ the federal level. A candidates policies and stance on issues should be scrutinized @ the deepest levels but instead all we have gotten is a Jerry Springer free for all that tries to take us away from the real issues @ hand. Up until a few months ago how many people knew Mccains campaign is being funded in part by Bush Cronies and supporters. I don't know if this bothers anyone else, but it scares the hell out of me and should scare you all 2.

  • Posted By: ssbn777 @ 08/04/2008 1:24:29 PM

The author used His middle name. Doesn't he know that the Obamessiah's (PBUH) middle name cannot be uttered! That is an intolerable sin, and those who utter the middle name are racist and should be smitten with fire and brimstone!!!!!

    • Posted By: markus1976 @ 08/04/2008 1:36:54 PM

of course, because you CONSTANTLY hear the press using McCain and Clinton's middle names!!!

this is ridiculous- his middle gets invoked to project a stigma, PERIOD.
the fact someone can argue otherwise scares me, because they're either incredibly stupid or incredibly malicious.

you can take your pick as to which you are...

      • Posted By: ssbn777 @ 08/04/2008 1:50:33 PM

I count more "Hillary Rodham Clinton" references than "Hillary Clinton" ones. If B. Hussein's real middle name isn't any kind of a problem, why does all hell break loose when someone mentions it. That IS his name, is it not? I hear more "W" and George "W" utterances too, come to think of it....

        • Posted By: markus1976 @ 08/04/2008 2:19:32 PM

you do know that's her MAIDEN name, right????
her maiden name, which she USES.

          her middle name is DIANE.

wow...this is funny...you're gonna have to do better than THAT...

being a white southern male no way would i vote for obama and not because he is black it is because of mose of his stands fdt

I grew up in Arkansas and now live in Wisconsin. I have encountered racist, bigoted people in every place I have ever lived. I also have encountered thoughtful, caring people in every place. The south is not homogeneous in attitude toward anything. My parents are democrats and still live in Arkansas. They have friends who share their political views and those who don't. My in-laws are democrats who also have friends and relatives who, likewise, are either democrat or republican. As my mother and mother-in-law are both fond of saying, "there are rednecks everywhere."
I'm in education and quite aware of race and intolerance. What I see as a difference between the midwest and the south is not the racism itself; it is quite simply that in the south the racism is more open but here in the midwest it is more hidden (yet still present). Which is the more insidious?

  • Posted By: utvol3264 @ 08/04/2008 2:14:51 PM

Newsweek has done it again.....along with NBC you guys are a joke......the most one-sided coverage in the history of presidential politics......if someone does not agree with Obama they must be racist......you're a disgrace to true journalism.

  • Posted By: amrobinson @ 08/04/2008 2:12:14 PM

Funny how it's never mentioned, even once, that every single one of those ol' racist murdering ba*****ds where Democrats, one and all.
