personally i think you are quite cute. having said that america hasn't had a first lady with sex appeal and sophistication since jacqueline kennedy. all other first lady looked like they should be someones mother. or a barbie-doll (pat nixon now cindy McCain) if we would get over our blatent puritanism & our kitschiness , perhaps we might see a n american raissa gorbachev someday!

Americans are too judgmental ... Calling Mexicans illegal aliens...treating Castro like a criminal...condemning millions of innocent muslims...and labelling and stereotyping women. Why does America feel it must set the standard for everything and everyone? I adore the french for their liberal and anti-judgmental attitudes. And don't forget, America, they're the ones who helped you win the fight for independence. And no, I'm not french. But if it wasn't for the French, you would probably have lost the war for independence. I think Carla, Cindy and Michelle are all beautiful and intelligent women. Do you have any idea what it's like to be the wife of a political leader? there's so much pressure and scrutiny on your life. And so many women out there are willing to sleep with your husband for free, just for spite. These women deserve much more respect than they're getting from the public. So many R&B and pop singers are disrespecting themselves all over the world- Janet Jackson's boob stunt comes to mind- but people have no problem respecting her still. God is the only being who shall judge man...

You are as ignorant of the french way of life as the redactor of this article. I can barely trust what you have written: Do you believe that the French first wife don't take care of her image? Certainly, in my country we don't have the same habits. Of course we're so wild, ignorant people that we don't know anything about those politics stuff. However, I am so confused to tell you that you're not the only one kind of civilized country. Don't judge as this "pseudo-journalist" something that you can hardly figure to yourself. It's an other country, with an other culture far much old than the American one.

What a strange, insecure article. Do you honestly think that if either candidate were married to, say, Grace Kelly (were she still alive) or Cindy Crawford, the American people wouldn't totally embrace her as their First Lady? Of course we would! Let's get over our inferiority complex to Europe once and for all!

Of course we would! It's high time we finally get over our inferiority complex to Europe!

Man looks on the outward appearance...God looks on the heart. With one interview, I could see the heart of Carly Fiorina...nothing masked...so honest and open...what you see is what you get! and so in love with her husband ... for her husband... not for the world to judge. I've seen hardly ANY appearances of McCain's wife..just know she's filthy rich...and Obama's wife puts anything but her husband's tongue in her mouth ... because her foot's always in the way!! I'd vote for Carly before I'd vote for either one of our candidates' wives!

The fact of the matter is the differences between the French first wife and American first wives are very different. In America, image is important. If an American first wife presented themselves the way Carla Bruni-Sarkozy does, American society (overall) would attack that and therefore not be as likely to vote her husband as president. It sucks, but that's America. Don't blame this author, he's simply writing the facts.

Comparing Hillary to Carla.WOW...not a chance.

I actually like Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. She's honest. She may be out there to American standards but she doesn't hide what she did in her past or what she wants to do in her future. That's more than what we can say about our political standards here in the US. She became First Lady of France! Obviously she is smarter than people think. Go Carla!

Many Americans live in a world of make belief. They expect the world to behave like perfect little cutouts from the 50s. If you look behind close doors, you many find skeletons in their closets and get a sense on how screwed-up their lives really are. Wake up America and get your priorities in order. Instead of judging other leader???s wives or way of life, why not fix your own oxymoron faults, values, morals, hypocrisies, and arrogances just to name a few? Stick to issues with substance and put your endless priorities in order ??? economy, education, job security, etc??? Why is the media so hung on propaganda? Is it that we are not smart enough to find solutions to our nation???s problems? France may have their share of trash news put they seem to also know how to distinguish and differentiate between issues and tabloids.

I also donot care how Bill Clinton relieved his stress :). I only voted for Clinton the 2nd time, and will be voting for McCain this election, regardless of the running mates. I do not care what color they make their hair, what designer clothes they wear, etc. I want someone who is honest, and can lead this country in these difficult times, deal with the world issues and those within our own land.
