Lack of insurance is only part of the problem. Even spending 500 a month on insurance through my wife???s work we still avoid going to the dentist or doctor unless absolutely necessary.

Her work contributes 250, we pitch in a little of 500 and it still doesn't cover crap. I could just use the 500 on medical bills and things would probably be fine. I love that I spend 500 a month for insurance and a doctor visit, x-rays, and medicine when my son falls off his bike still costs over a hundred after co pays and the bill I get later for the uncovered portion. This is assuming I have met the deductable that comes with my PPO. The only reason I don't just get rid of the whole mess is what happens if someone gets seriously hurt or sick? Even with insurance and having met the deductable a trip to the ER for stitches costs 1800.00 after I get bill from everybody and their brother.

The last poster is right, for practical purposes we are third world health care for a lot of people.

This American Malady is oh so disgraceful. Our Congress and Senate should be kicked out of Office.

they should remember that "What you do to the least of them, you do also to me!" The day of reckoning is coming.

This is the best article I have read in the past year. It shows what we all knew that there are millions of Americans who cannot afford healthcare. Will our government start to focus on America? Our voices are not being heard when we say that we aren't getting by.

This American Malady is a shame on the United States of America. Nothing will be done by Congress or the Senate to help these people. It is written that the last shall first and it will be fitting for those in the Senate and Congress. How can our Leaders be so uncaring?

My heart is breaking over this article. This is a wide spread issue affecting many more Americans than the just the ones in the article.

We as a country need to take care of our own, this should never occur here in the USA.
We need to contact our representatives in Washington, and demand that help be made available instead of all the pork our taxes are used for.
The article said hundreds were turned away, but how many couldn't even get there.
This is a sad day for America.

make you sicker when you realize this is in America....we've become a third world nation

Why not devote 100% of these efforts in the U.S.A. and take care of the hundreds that were turned away????
