The conservative author of a new book about Obama's faith discusses why the candidate could appeal to evangelicals.
Comment: It is the intolerance of other opinions, ideas, lifestyles, etc. that creates fascist states. This is the biggest single threat to our democracy.
Comment: Just what in the heck did happen to the separation of church and state? First the churches in my community get together and decide to stop a law that would allow restaurants to serve alcohol by pressuring their congregations to vote against it, and then they bused them to the polls to be sure they voted how they wanted them to. It is sad when laws can be determined by a little religious pressure and a lot of buses. I say this because many of those who went along with their churches, told me later that they really did not want to vote against it, but they were afraid not to.
Now one of the biggest issues in this election seems to be what religion the candidates follow. We have become a country of zombies, brainless followers, or something like it.
Yes Obama may not have the same religious belief as you, but then does Palin, and who cares unless it will be used against you?
So go ahead and vote for McCain and Palin, a senile old man and his beauty queen play thing. Because the truth is there is still a racist mentality in this country, and there are still a lot of women who are going to vote Republican just because there is a woman on the ticket. But get real, this woman is not a soccer mom. She has no compassion for you. She hunts and kills for the fun of it, and she would easily abandon an infant for a career when she does not have to. Most women I know would not want to leave their tiny infant if they could afford to stay home until the baby was older. This woman wants to destroy women's rights not further them. She has abused her powers in her career, and will continue to force her ideas on others. She is a self-righteous religious fanatic who believes that only her way can be right, and at least Obama isn't pushing his religious beliefs on us. This country was formed on the idea that people should be allowed to think for themselves and believe as they wish. I do not see Palin supporting that belief. As for McCain, well he is a rich man who thinks it is fine to own so many houses he can???t remember the number. He will not stop helping the rich get richer, while the rest of us struggle to survive. The old Republican idea of, by helping Corporate America you help the little guy, does not work any more. It only worked when those at the top cared about those at the bottom. I have news for you, those guys don't care anymore. They want their many houses and their mega-retirement packages, and they will have them at our expense. But you go ahead and vote Republican, because it would be better than taking a chance on Obama and Biden. But don't complain about it when the next 4 years are more of the same. Oh and if you happen to be one of the few non-racist "thinking people" who actually might be voting for McCain/Palin because you honestly support their views, then this is not directed at you. However, I would ask you to think about what I said about the Republican ideas no longer working; because they really aren't you know.

Comment: On the day of the announcement of his selection to be the Democratic nominee for vice-President, Joe Biden was quick to go on attack and use the Bush clone metaphor in describing John McCain. Cloning of course involves copying genes. Issues involving clones, copying and plagiarism seem to be recurrent themes in the life of Joe Biden. It has been reported that Joe Biden withdrew from his 1987 Presidential primary race against George Dukakis and Dick Gephardt due to reports of plagiarism of a speech by Neil Kinnock a former British Labor Party leader. More damaging are reports that during his first year at Syracuse University Law School, Joe Biden lifted five pages of material out of a total fifteen page legal research and writing class memo from a Fordham Law Review article. Joe Biden received a grade of F in the legal research and writing course and had to repeat it the following semester. Copying and mimicking behavior is sometimes said to be the sincerest form of flattery but plagiarism falls into a special category of a backhanded compliment because it implies a disdain for the original author and your audience. Did Joe Biden believe that none of his professors would take the time to look up his citations or have read or be familiar with the Fordham law review article on his topic product liability. Many Catholics would be offended that a fellow Irish Catholic like Joe Biden would use Fordham Law Review an academic product of his own faith to commit plagiarism.

If baptism isn't that important, then why was Jesus himself baptized? Jesus had to set the example for his followers. Besides, Acts 2:38 should explain this for the Church Age. Clearly being baptized is part of being saved. As for the thief on the cross, he was really in between the Church Age and the last of the Old Testament. Jesus hadn't ushered in the Chuch Age as of yet. The thief was saved under the Old Covenent because he had repented, and Jesus had seen his heart, which was genuine, so Jesus let him in paradise with Himself.

A person can only get to heaven by being born again by water and spirit, baptism And yes, that means accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior. Since most Catholics are baptized as an infant, he or she has a "sponsor" Their Godparents, who speak for the child and accept the responsibility for the child's religious education.

Comment: I think you have mis-read what I posted..... in no way do I believe that Peter is the Rock! I posted that Jesus wasn't talking about Peter but the principle concept that Jesus is the Christ the Son of the living God.... This is the Rock in which the church is built on and that Jesus is the chief cornerstone that holds everything together.... the prophets and apostles layed the foundation (which points toward or is Jesus) by preaching the revelations of God's word and the manefestation of that word in Christ Jesus.... I do agree that Peter was a great Apostle and that Paul was even greater in his outreach to the gentiles and others... the only Way to get to heaven is stated clearly in John 14:6 ....

Comment: Raddave, regarding your statement about the separation of class leading to a weak nation, that is a symptom, not a cause. The strength of a nation is directly proportional to it's ability to produce goods. It is a general lack of productivity that leads to a weak nation. Our nation grows ever weker due to several factors, all of which reduce productivity. First and foremost, the balance between productive industries, and non productive service industries is completely out of whack. I don't have an actual statistic, but I would be shocked if more than 5% of every dollar you earn is spent on the actual production of a product. The first 25% or so comes off the top for taxes to feed our government which is a non productive service industry in and of itself.. I've seen estimates that on average 60% of the cost of products you use goes just to consumer advertisement. Out of the remaining 40%, manufacturers must insure themselves against litigation which is out of control. And then the cost of the materials used to make the goods you use are inflated because the suppliers have all of the same excess spending necessities. Then there are all of the personal non productive services, like banking and insurance, etc that we spend our money on.
Couple all of that with the fact that we have an increasing attitude of entitlement in this country. Working class jobs are regarded as being for second class citizens. People who work in productive industries are looked down upon as though hard work is something to be ashamed of. People in working class jobs are regarded as losers who didn't have what it takes to get a better job. Our kids grow up unprepared for life, and largely unable to do any real work.
Comment: I disagree with you that separation of the classes is a symptom and not a cause. the growing devide between the haves and have nots was the direct cause for the French revolution. I do not agree with you that there is an increasing attitude of entitlement in this country except maybe in the Higher class of people.

Comment: As long as there is a chance for a good "photo op" I think Obama will go for it. It's very difficult to imagine what was taught to him during his childhood(secular huminism,Catholic, and Muslim) would not have an effect on him in later years. I have also read in some child psycology books that this could be termed "layered learning" where one step of learning is replaced by the next and so on. In my humble opinion after listening to Rev. Comment: Elizabethpaige, regarding your question, I want the government to stop wasting our hard earned tax dollars on stupidity. The role of Government is to set rules and regulations to prevent individuals and companies from abusing each other while they pursue prosperity. But instead of doing that job properly, they allow special interest groups to talk them into wasting my money on who knows what. Our government has failed in it's job to regulate when you pay $750 for a windshield through your insurance company that you can buy for $150 cash. Our government has failed us when a hospital is allowed to charge $40 for a tissue to blow your nose. So to answer your question, I want our government to spend my tax money on doing their own job of regulating industry properly, and leave the running of industry to the people.
