Ron Suskind Must be the only real journalist left in this country but I guess its just the "Way of the World"

    By Ron Suskind
What just happened? Evidence. A secret that has been judiciously kept for five years just spilled out. All of what follows is new, never reported in any way:

The Iraq Intelligence Chief, Tahir Jalil Habbush -- a man still carrying a $1 million reward for capture, the Jack of Diamonds in Bush's famous deck of wanted men -- has been America's secret source on Iraq. Starting in January of 2003, with Blair and Bush watching, his secret reports began to flow to officials on both sides of the Atlantic, saying that there were no WMD and that Hussein was acting so odd because of fear that the Iranians would find out he was a toothless tiger. The U.S. deep-sixed the intelligence report in February, "resettled" Habbush to a safe house in Jordan during the invasion and then paid him $5 million in what could only be considered hush money.

In the fall of 2003, after the world learned there were no WMD -- as Habbush had foretold -- the White House ordered the CIA to carry out a deception. The mission: create a handwritten letter, dated July, 2001, from Habbush to Saddam saying that Atta trained in Iraq before the attacks and the Saddam was buying yellow cake for Niger with help from a "small team from the al Qaeda organization."

The mission was carried out, the letter was created, popped up in Baghdad, and roiled the global newcycles in December, 2003 (conning even venerable journalists like Tom Brokaw). The mission is a statutory violation of the charter of the CIA, and amendments added in 1991, prohibiting the CIA from conducting disinformation campaigns on U.S. soil.

So, here we go again: the administration is in full attack mode, calling me names, George Tenet is claiming he doesn't remember any such thing -- just like he couldn't remember "slam dunk" -- and reporters are scratching their heads. Everything in my book is on the record, with many sources. And so, we watch and wait....

There will be more falling by the wayside after this book is read and there may be an impeachment in the works. Wait there already is! This will give it lots of strength. If you are a patriotic American write all of your congressmen/women and senators and ask them what's up with this.

This is about the first thing I have read in the national media that deals with the complexity of the religious issues surrounding Barack Obama. As a Christian, I have always taken for granted that there is no absolute certainty, no infallible pope or bible, always a need to search, to question, to doubt. I like open-mindedness. I like people who entertain various points of view. I like those who are willing to accept that important things are generally complex, and cannot be captured in phrases and sound-bites and other simplicities.

ABOARD THE STRAIGHT TALK EXPRESS (CNN) ??? John McCain, who rarely talks about his faith publicly, discussed some of his religious beliefs with reporters Wednesday - including the question of whether he might consider being baptized again.

The presumptive Republican nominee talked with journalists traveling with him from Kentucky to West Virginia about his home congregation, North Phoenix Baptist Church.

"Pastor Dan Yeary has a message I enjoy and appreciate," he said, adding that he and his family have "grown close to [Yeary] over the years" and that he tried to attend services at the church whenever he was home in Arizona.

"The message that Dan Yeary conveys of Christian love and redemption is one that I welcome," said McCain. "And I'm always spiritually helped and assisted when I attend those church services, as I think most Americans are when they attend church services."

The Arizona senator, who was raised an Episcopalian, has attended North Phoenix for nearly two decades, but is not a member because he has not been baptized into the church.

On Wednesday, he told reporters that he had been Baptized in Panama, where he was BORN, and talked about a photo in his memoirs of himself as a baby in a baptismal gown, with his father and grandfather.

"It's like a dress," he chuckled.

Note: Thats not the same thing at all and Mccain knows it Too. He's a Free will agent and of legal Age, to make this Decision, oppose to being an infant, with no Choice.

But he was more GAURDED about his CURRENT PLANSwith regard to BAPTISM, calling them "a PRIVATE THING."

John McCain: "I've been in discussions with Pastor Yeary, and we'll continue those discussions," he said. "It's a personal thing, it's a very personal thing concerning my faith and I am proud of my faith, I am proud of my belief and the sustenance and the redemption that I have received

Whala, you are horribly ignorant. Do you call the fire department when your house is burning down? Do you call 911 when you need help? Have you ever attended public shcools? If yes, welcome to socialism! Not only do you misrepresent Obama's views, you do not mention Romney's membership to one of the most racist religous organizations in US history. Nice try at the scare tactic. Go find some moron to buy into your garbage!

    • Posted By: whala @ 08/08/2008 12:39:23 PM

What in the world does Romney's religious membership have to do with my views of Obama? The only thing I said about Romney is that the evangelicals are intolerant of his religion, and thereby demonstrate that they are not so Cristian as they profess.

As a true evangelical I find this article laughable. True evangelicals do not believe "some of it (scriptures) might be of human origin, and some scriptures may be of more weight than others." It is the Word of God..period..

Obama already has the mindless minions on the left voting for him so they do not count. Conservative Evangelicals are not idiots and have taken the time to learn the truth about this man. We know all about the hateful church church that he has attended for the last 20 years, yet he claims to not have known what was going on there?? We know all about his pro-abortion stance.

You guys in the media can try to polish his religious resume all you want but we know the truth...We know you have been falling all over yourselves to worship at his feet and prop up his image. Seriously, do not count on any "red state" Christians voting for him at all...especially here in Ohio as the "buzz" about him is not good at all.

obamasuxx, please tell me how many commandments there are? If you said 10, you are poorly educated in your own beliefs. The answer is 613. Please tell me how breaking the first commandment makes you close to god? There is only One there buddy, not two or three.

Please do not refer to someone elses church as "hateful" when your own church represents homophobia, racism, anti-semitism, and nascar. Don't you have some books to burn and some creationism to teach?

Hussein's beliefs.....reading carefully reveals a lot....hmmm...let's look at some excerpts in this book....................

"If Obama wins, he will be the first president not raised a Christian"

"Obama spent his early years under the influence of atheism and folk Islam "

"Obama's step father was Muslim. He moved the family to Indonesia."

"In Indonesia, Obama would occasionaly attend a mosque."

"In Trinity Church, Obama was seeking a community of shared values"

"Obama isn't sure about a traditional view of eternal punishment "

And let's finish with a quote from The One......"A year ago, Nicholas Kristoff, in the New York Times, wrote, "???In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it???ll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as ???one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.??????

A mohammed in the White House??? GOD Forbid...And HE has...

    NOBAMA!!!

    • Posted By: summer4077 @ 08/08/2008 9:15:56 AM

None of those cherry-picked excerpts say anything about Obama being a muslim. Many people attend church while young, then convert to judaism or another religion. Obama's STEPFATHER was muslim. And? I've attended Jewish temples to celebrate a bar/bat mitzvah, does that make me Jewish?
You know, many Christians aren't sure about eternal punishment, does that make them Muslim?

Oh and even though all of your statements are false--what's so wrong with Muslims? It's one of the major 3 religions in the world...millions upon millions follow its teachings. Do we have millions of terrorists? Absolutely not. Seems to me that right-wing Christians are more wacko than most Muslims. What about the guy that just shot everyone in that Tennessee church? What about the Phelps clan? What about the Salem witch trials, the Holocaust, and the Inquisition? Hmmmm???

You say he will be the first President not to be christian, but the early presidents were slave owners, raping the slaves, stealing land and killing Indians. Please this country was founded in gross sin, but as always we like to not talk about that. Where is GOD in all of that?

Mcain is a nostic. The republican party did not do any thing good for america they got us into dept, a war that was unnecessary, that made us the most unliked country over seas. They are to blame for every thing that is going wrong. If you vote for mcbush it going to be the same site for another four years hopefully the old man will die before the election. Maria, congratulations, you are a true liberal. Why consider the possibility that the Democrats could have a share of the responsibility when it's so much easier to simply blame the Republicans? 4. Benjamin Franklin

In an essay on "Toleration," Franklin wrote:

"If we look back into history for the character of the present sects in Christianity, we shall find FEW that have not in their turns been persecutors, and complainers of persecution.

The primitive Christians thought persecution extremely wrong in the Pagans, but practiced it on one another.

The first Protestants of the Church of England blamed persecution in the Romish church, but practiced it upon the Puritans. These found it wrong in the Bishops, but fell into the same practice themselves both here [England] and in New England."

Dr. Priestley, an intimate friend of Franklin, wrote of him:

"It is much to be Lamented that a Man of Franklin's General Good Character and Great Influence should have been an UNBELIEVER in CHRISTIANITY, and also have done as much as he did to make OTHERS UNBELIEVERS" (Priestley''s Autobiography)

    Benjamin Franklin Continued...

Although Franklin received religious training, his Nature Forced him to Rebel Against the Irrational Tenets of His Parents Christianity.

His Autobiography revels his skepticism, "My Parents had given me betimes Religions Impressions & I received from my Infancy a Pious Education in the Principles of Calvinism.

But scarcely was I arrived at 15 years of age, when, after having doubted in turn of Different Tenets, according as I found them Combated in the different books that I read, I began to doubt of Revelation itself.

". . . Some books against Deism fell into my hands. . .

It happened that they had an effect on me, quite contrary to what was intended by them; for the arguments of the Deists, which were quoted to be refuted, appeared to me MUCH STRONGER than the Refutations; in short,

I soon became a through Deist."

In an essay on "Toleration," Franklin wrote:

    5. Thomas Paine

This Freethinker and Author of Several books, influenced more early Americans than any other writer.

Although he held Deist beliefs, he wrote in his famous The Age of Reason:

"I do not believe in the Creed Professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of.

My Own mind is my Church. "

"Of all the systems of Religion that ever were invented, there is no more Derogatory to the Almighty, more Unedifiying to man, more Repugnant to reason, and more Contradictory to itself than this thing called (Christianity). "

  • Posted By: Cates @ 08/08/2008 10:38:22 AM

By definition, faith is a belief that is held despite the absence supporting evidence, or in many cases, conflicting evidence. In short, faith is a lie you tell yourself and a deceptive wrong inflicted on others.

Obama needs to drop his religion at the door. As a Bright, I can???t vote for a man that actually appears to have faith in gods, Santa, or fairies. Imaginary friends are for children and schizophrenics. Irrational beliefs are a sign of mental instability and immaturity.

I find it sad and pathetic that McCain doesn't bring any substance to the table, but must instead rely on bashing Obama. He seems less concerned with winning by an honest effort and more concerned about winning by default--"If I make the other guy look bad, I'll look good in comparision!" I'm glad Obama has the dignity and intelligence to rise about those shameful tactics.

Alfred - I couldn't agree more. You need to be a Christian in order to be president in this country. I guess the fore fathers forgot to add that qualificaiton to the constitution while they writing it. I guess 95% of the people in this country forgot about little the constitutional law of seperation of church and state.
