actually, I don't understand all this happiness by Berlusconi's fans and media (e.g Il Giornale, edited by his brother). I believe they have just read the title and not the rest:

I am very disappointed by reading this article. Not only we have to live under a non-democracy, we also have to read on foreign newspaper that berlusconi is doing his best. Give a closer look to various blogs in Naples and you'll notice that the difference is simply that there is less garbage, not that the problem has been solved.

The author of this article seems to have a strong bias in favour of Mr. Berlusconi. Before getting into the main content of the article, I'd love to nice this quote: "The bill passed overwhelmingly last month, and put an end to outstanding criminal proceedings against Berlusconi (which he and supporters say were politically driven)." Why not explain what Mr. Berlusconi is under trial (or "was" due to the new law) for bribing a witness during one of Berlusconi's dozens of trials? And that politics have nothing to do with this case? What kind of a balanced article would use the defendant's and his supporters??? opinions to support the topic's case? I'm just wondering.
Now, to the comments. First, Berlusconi did not "clean up Naples". He just moved the trash around, to the suburbs, which is quite different than what the article says. Second, "he tackled the perception that violent crime is on the rise (despite data showing otherwise), and that foreigners are to blame for it." If anything, his coalition, especially the Lega Nord party, are the main cause for this widespread feeling of lack of security and especially intolerance towards immigrants. Now let???s get real here and understand what Berlusconi has done here. There is a huge difference between perception of security and actual security. If Berlusconi cuts ???3,000,000,000 (three billion Euros!!) of security funds, then he can???t say that by adding 3000 soldiers, with no training for public order and in a country of 60 million people, Italy is more secure. Policemen no longer can receive overtime pay, rather they are sent home with days off once they reach a certain amount of overtime hours. So what is the purpose of even adding 3000 soldiers, one in every 20,000 citizens, when then we send others home with two or three days off?
Finally, something that quite disturbs me. Berlusconi ???proposed a law mandating fingerprinting for all Roma living in camps in Italy.??? Sorry Mr. Barigazzi, but that isn???t ???harassing immigrants??? as you seem to call it, but it is nothing less than racism.

I think that this article is a big disappointment for the italians Berlusconi's enemies. The reason of Berlusconi's success is not only himself but the lack of his opponents, how written in the same article.
The opposition must find a credible polical strategy instead of fight their power struggle among its multitude of leaders and to be haunted by Berlusconi: going on this way Mr. Berlusconi will be Prime Minister till his death.
