the clintons are use to be's that need to get out of the way...and they are socialist first and americans last.....
Howard, Oh Howard, how come no one is demanding that Obama get dwon from his high horse and put the democratic party first? What has Obama doen for this party to make so many demands from the Clintons? How come Obama is not demanding other fromer conadidates to campaign for him? How come no one see the over bloated ego othis fool? Obama insulted Bill Clinton and he must be made to pay price for that. Obama is acting with inpunity and disrespest
Funny, because the only demands we see these days are from the Clintons.
First is was "Obama, GET OUT OF THE WAY. THIS NOMINATION IS OUR BIRTHRIGHT".
After the Clintons lost, it was " Obama, PAY MY BILLS".
Next it was "Obama, PUT ME ON YOUR TICKET FOR VP". This after suggesting only she and McCain had passed the "commander-in-chief test".
Now it's "Obama, MAKE ME RELEVANT and IMPORTANT AGAIN. HELP ME RESTORE THE CREDIBILITY I LOST IN RUNNING A NASTY PRIMARY CAMPAIGN"
Of course, Obama should be the subservient presidential nominee and answer to every Clinton whim. Oh and the Democratic party? The Clintons TRIED to bully the party to toe their line and coronate them and it failed miserably. They don't care about the party, they're all about themselves and it shows. They are the ones threatening division if they don't get their way. Yes, Obama could use Clinton help in the general election campaign, but one would really have to ask, is it worth the headache? I can see the list of unreasonable demands coming already "At every stop, must have the $$$$ food platters that I enjoyed during the primaries that my campaign ultimately couldn't afford."
Let's move on.
"the Clintons need to cheerfully join the team (or do a good job of faking it)"
very interesting choice of words...where's bitter? Sen Clinton looked awfully cheerful campaigning for obama in Nevada while he is on vacation. Did you watch it hOWARD? And she did a good job of faking the entire crowd's enthusiasm, didn't she?
Funny how the bots didn't touch this.
Barry. Here ares some more recommendations for you. 1. Keep it simple at the convention. People already think you are grandiose. 2. Show some passion. People already think you are an egghead. 3. Don't let the Clintons push you around. People already think you are a sissy. 4. Keep you know who in the background. 5. You have to explain (again) why you chose to worship at Trinity. 6. You have explain (again) your statement about people "clinging to Jesus, and guns, and to their biases."
Barry. Things are getting complicated and I am getting worried. Bill and Hillary are planning to stage a Greek tragedy at the convention with you as Oedipus Rex. That horrid old man keeps calling you names. Your friend the mayor of Detroit...you know. Edwards...you know.. Putin has invaded Georgia. Gas prices are down. Iraq and USA are about to agree on a deal. Pelosi is getting pushed around. And you are on
vacation. Looks like you are gonna have to pick someone with great foreign policy experience. How about Sam Nunn?
Barack Obama, community organizer. President Putin, former KGB chief. Repeat ten times as you enter voting booth.
Ridiculous as always.
Barry. I am getting worried. Things seemed so simple just a few weeks ago.
The Clintons are real people, with feelings and emotions they show. In the past, they were both disparaged as 'wonkish'. Guess it shows what public life is like - you can't please everyone all the time. I, for one, am glad to see Bill Clinton express anger. He has a right to be angry.
I would also feel more secure in him as a candidate if Obama stopped being so 'cool' and calculating. Part of Regan's power came from our enemies feeling he could not be relied on to do the 'rational', he was an ideologue marching to his own beat.
Obama played dirty during the primary.
And he flipped off Hillary TWICE. You expect Bill to just "get over it"? I haven't ....why should he?
What did Obama flip? Are we back to that ridiculous finger flipping BS that Obama gave Hillary? I am not surprised at how uneducated some Hillary supporters are. You embarass the poor woman.
Bill may not be a racist, but he USED the "dog whistle" to wake up all the other racists and he used his very carefully chosen words - as he always does - to manipulate the masses. Only this time it didn't work. Bill & Hill do not know how to lose - that is the whole issue. Bill's time is past -- the Clintons, at this point, are just two of the "also ran's" -- the losers -- and do not deserve the special treatment they are being given.
You must have missed this one.Link below. Wake u people. Obama has played the race card on Hillary, and yet again (twice) on McCain at which point McCain called Obama on it (after ignoring it first time around) ..
This is the real deal . . . .

Oops, almost forgot to add sharenews, now don't you forget about that ridiculousObama finger flipping nonsense you harped about for weeks, very silly and so very desperate. Face the fact that when you supported Hillary, you supported a loser candidate and you are jealous of Obama.
Lol. More BS.
Good piece; hope both sides will take it to heart.
Well said Mr. Fineman. I am an African-American female attorney who whole heartedly supports Barack Obama and have contributed to his campaign. However, I would have supported Hillary Clinton, without reservations, if she had won the nomination. One of the platforms of Mr. Obama's campaign is the need to bring back diplomacy in trying to acheive world peace by talking to our enemies . Well, charity begins at home. Mr. Obama needs to start with the Clintons and do all that is necessary to unite the Democratic party. I have not always supported the tactics of the Clintons, however, you have to give credit where credit is due and the Clintons because of their track record in the history of American politics deserve such credit and more. Barack Obama needs to keep his eyes on the ultimate prize and swallow the humble pill in his approach towards the Clintons.
Thank you, LUCYOSAKWE, for your voice of reason.
I second.
While I strongly support Obama, I'm often turned off by his supporters. Their lack of respect and mischaracterization of President Clinton and his legacy are troubling. Perhaps this generation has been tainted by the constant negative drumbeat by Republicans and the medea during his tenure. If McCain were not such an obviously inferior candidate, Obama would be in real trouble. He still may be.
When G OLD Pers describe their candidate McCain as "the lesser of two evils" and " not our first choice". When he loses in the biggest landslide since George washington was elected, they will claim they didn't vote and sneak away into the shadows claiming to have never supported him. The new third party MBOOTP, formerly the G OLD P will emerge made up of the Republican's coveted base, Skinheads, KKKers, Falwell, Robertson, Hagee, Dobson, Limbaugh, OReilly, Hannity, and the Gang of 5 , Bush/Cheney/Rice/Powell/Rumsfeld who cooked up phony evidence that has sent more than 4000 of our bravest young women and men to their deaths in iraq.
Ditto on your comments, Bass Pro. How is everything? Doing lots of fishing?
Btw, I saw that post to Sky and I. Thank you for it. Hello from Sky.
How can Obama call himself a uniter when he can't even pick up the phone? He is looking more and more like an egotistical upstart.
AT LEAST HE IS NOT AN EGOTISTIC TREE FROG FROM POND SCUM COUNTRY.
While Mr. Fineman is correct, in that Obama should make a more honest effort to make up with the Clintons, and in general, to bring us Clinton supporters into the fold, he probably does not feel the need to do it. I for one distrust Obama, partly because of his inexperience, and partly because of the totally unacceptable tone and behavior of most of his supporters. Nevertheless, what options do I have? How could I vote for McCain, who vowed to stuff the Supreme Court with right wing political fanatics like Thomas and Scalia? I can not and Obama and his handlers know this. Hence, they will keep mistreating us, and probably without impunity in the short run. In the long run I believe we need to form a new party, a Liberal party (in the traditional sense of the word), or something similar, for those of us who represent the rational middle ground. This would leave the Democratic Party to the ultra left, that seems to have taken control of it, and the Republican Party to the religious ultra right, which has taken control of it 10-15 years ago. I believe that a Liberal Party that contains the middle of both the Democratic and the Republican parties could easily have the majority in our country. Just someone has to have the guts and vision to form it.
A third party is the only hope for the majority of Americans who are in the moderate center. The extremes of both parties will destroy what this country is supposed to stand for. While I won't vote republican this time, I can't vote democratic because they have pushed someone like me out the door. An independent party that votes on the issues and the person seems to be the only answer to restoring what has become a corrupt political process and the first issue that they face should be getting lobbyists, bundlers, special interests money OUT OF POLITICS. They spend their entire time raising more money for the next election and ignore their jobs.
Choice = write in Senator Clinton on the ballot.
That would only work if all 18 million voters who voted for her in the primary would write in Clintons name in the election in November! We all know that will never happen! So writing in her name would accomplish nothing!
I CAN'T WRITE HER NAME IN HERE AND ASK YOUR SELF THIS IF YOU DO THAT IT WILL FOR SURE GIVE OBAMA THE WIN DO YOU REALLY WANT WRIGHT OPRAH AND ALL OF OBAMAS OTHER CROOKS STAYING IN THE WHITE HOUSE LAUGHING AT US THE EDWARDS BED BUDDY THING OBAMA KNEW ABOUT THAT BEFORE IT CAME OUT SO BRIBED EDWARDS TOO THROW OBAMAS WAY OR HE KNEW HILLARY WOULD TAKE IT ANOTHER UNDERHANDED TRICK FROM OMAMA
yes it would: keeping a clear conscience.
ditto
I too was worried about voting for McCain because of the possible supreme court appointments but then it was made clear last sunday on George Stephanopolis that the senate and congress have to approve his nominees and since the democrats will most likely have control of the house and senate the likelyhood of mcCain being able to appoint another Scalia, Roberts or thomas is almost impossible, so feel free to write in hillary or vote for McCain without any guilt or fear!
EXACTLY. I totally agree with the thinking of you about what George S. said . I was even thinking that before hearing his words. So yes, no worry. I do have to say that I think that former Hillary voters will get more bang for the buck if they vote for McCain (cuz she will be in a position to run again in 2012 if McCain wins). But I also think if people feel more comfortable to write in her name on the ballot, that is there choice too to feel good about for their own reasons. Just do your homework on Obama and McCain and make your choice based on whom you feel is the candidate you feel most comfortable with forfilling the role of President of the United States starting in January 2009.
simonanunhappydem: I agree with you we do need a third party, a party that would be in the middle. Thats why I am an independant! You said how can you vote for McCain ? Think of it this way at least McCain has experience, I can not believe out of all the candidates that were running we ended up with these 2! I have decided to vote McCain because he has experience and I am so tired of hearing about how great Obama is from the media!
A liberal is a man with both feet planted firmly in the air. - Winston Churchill
I will relish every moment of the failed Obama presidency if it comes to pass.
Well get ready to relish...heck get ready to PARTY!!!!! Hussein has a near 0% chance of becoming POTUS. If he doesn't come back from Hawaii with a REAL C.O.L.B., that hasn't been tampered with, he will not even be on the ticket AND I don't think he can get one.
NOBAMA!!!
G OLD P: A Political Party with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.
As always Howard, thanks for honest reporting. But hey, Obama has Newsweek so what does he need the Clinton's for. Besides as a Hillary Democrat, I support John McCain and the ticket. After all, Obama was voting "present" just 4 years ago in the Illinois state legislature. Why did the media, the party, and the super delegates annoint this phony. Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me.
The One's campaign has carefully orchestrated this whole process.
They can dance all they want to this music. I am sickened by it and will vote AGAINST him and FOR anyone of any party who opposes him.
Yes, Obama needs Bill Clinton because the media says he does. The media don't know how to report news anymore so they make up stories they can report from their offices or home, never having to leave their precious comfort zone. They make up a story out of nothing such as the battles between the Obamas and Clintons. Nothing like a good feud. Meanwhile the real wars go neglected and underreported. No wonder the American public is so ignorant of the important matters in their own back yards and around the world. We're dependent on a complacent corporation as beholden to profits as the oil giants.I pray that when this election is over Obama supporters can cheer and jeer in victory that Bill Clinton is history and his spell on the Democrats is lifted.
The problem is that the Clinton's are the most arrogant people in the Democratic Party. They aren't used to being defeated, so they have no clue how to do it gracefully. Hillary has yet to seem genuinely enthusiastic about Obama's candidacy, which is only fueling the psychosis of her bitter followers. It is long past time for the Clinton's and their supporters to get on board, that or risk becoming like Joe Lieberman, self-serving and traitorous to the good of the Party. To all Clinton supporters I say: we'd love to have you on our side, you are a very passionate bunch. We need your vote, otherwise, McCain may win this election, and the disaster that will ensue will be partly your responsibility. Can you live with those results? Is it really worth it? This is a matter of life or death for our soldiers AND our citizens, USE YOUR HEADS.
Obama '08--before it's too late!
