To jsalernoca: You're hilarious. You say of the Democrats, "This is the party that banned smoking from most of our country. This is the party that wants to ban us from eating certain foods. This is the party that wants to implemnt laws telling us when and how much electricity we can use. This is the party that wants certain private shows taken from the airwaves because they dont like them." So your "freedom" is defined as the freedom to pollute others' air, to eat food manipulated my corporate food manufacturers, to use up however much stuff you want, and to listen to media outlets that are profit-driven and thus only dish out what their audiences want to hear. So, in essence, your "freedom" is the Freedom from Responsibility.

Hey johnfp and childer1 - what does it feel like to be a blind follower? Wake up and stop believing every word you read in the New York Times and Newsweeks of the world. You clowns are probably the types that drive SUVs with stickers on your car that say "No War for Oil". Unless you want to shut your airconditioners and tvs off permanently, ride a horse i nstead of a car, and live by candlelight, shut up and send our president a thank you card.

To Getreal; You are either a moron, totally ignorant or have been living in some parallel universe for the past 7 years. This illegal 'war' was won and has been over since May, 2003 - See Mission Accomplished. The aftermath of that travesty - the occupation, is lost, has been lost and forever will be lost not to mention it being an abject failure. Bush and his cabal of criminals have ruined this country for years to come. He has caused the deaths of untold innocent Iraqi civilians, over 4000 Americans and essentially bankrupted this country. How anyone can even pretend to think that Bushit and friends have done anything right is beyond belief. Lets' count his successes, where should we start? the Constitution, New Orleans, 'free elections' in Florida (2000), Ohio (2004), energy, Osam bin Laden, the war on terror. (Sidebar - how does one conduct a war on/against a feeling?). Bushit and his bunch are criminals of the worst kind, he has lied and decieved the American public on just about everything he has ever said. Hopefully some day he and all his cronies, Darth, Wolfie, Condi, Gonzo, Scooter, Rummy, Bremmer, Ashcroft, Rove, etc, etc etc will all do hard time.

Baa baaa sheep being led to the slaughter. The wolves have it all planned out.

Since Both Programs of the WAR/PEACE RESEARCH Agency will share the
same purpose---to maintain governmental freedom of choice in respect to war
and peace until the direction of social survival is no longer in doubt -- it is of the
essence of this proposal that the agency be constituted without limitation of

time. Its examination of existing and proposed institutions will be self-liquidating
when its own function shall have been superseded by the historical
developments it will have, at least in part, initiated.

This two paragraphs above are the final words of the "Report from Iron Mountain" a private study
done for the government and seems to be being followed.

Read the report before you sign up for the military............

Folks this is a government study from the 60's that shows the purpose of manufactured WAR.

I am a registered republican who voted for Bush twice, mainly because of the lack of any better option, but I will vote for a change this election in Obama. But as bad a job as Bush's administration has done CONGRESS has done even worse. How these people can take a paycheck with a clear mind is beyond all explanation. Nothing is done but blaming the other party for not doing anything. I'm sick of everyone of them Republican and Democrat. I'm changing to Independent and hope everyone else does.

conscience not mind. believe me they have a very clear mind when they take that money. they have a clear mind when they take a junket on our tax money. also a clear mind when they take bribes from dirty fat cats. a clear consciense they do not have.

    Gallup Daily Tracking
    August 10, 2008

    McCain - 43%

    Obama - 46%

Barack Obama has a slim 46% to 43% margin over John McCain among registered voters in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking three-day rolling average for Aug. 7-9.

    • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 08/10/2008 7:02:41 PM

In two polls, Gallup and Fox, who for some reason seem to often have a higher number of voters being for the Republican candidate than other polls. Strange that, I'd say their sampling is erroneous or how they phase their questions need overhauling. All the other national polls show Obama up 4-7%. National polls are not very important at this point in time though, try them in late October for Presidential races. The rubber meets the road in state by state polling. We elect Presidents by the Electoral College after all, and several states that are usually reliably red are up for grabs this time around.

      • Posted By: gila92557 @ 08/10/2008 7:32:13 PM

polls depend on who and what is asked, some polls (gallup) take all registered voters, others (fox) only record "likely" voters

Because of the refusal of the Bush administration to just think about the consequences of its actions in domestic and foreign policies, our country is really gone back at least 40 years. Instead of being proactive in are stance on issues, were are always reacting to whatever is happening around us, for example the conflict now in the republic of Georgia. The next President, whoever it is, has no chance to go back to the policies of pre-Bush because we no longer have crediablility in the eyes of the world. I blame the Bush administration, but I really blame the citizens and the media of this country allowing the administration to head in the direction it took. We elect these people and if they do not do the job, we can unelect them.

    That just sounds foolish.

Grow up. Ideology isn't reality, and the reality is pretty bad. The admin. was a failure and it left the US in a terrible position.

You republicans are very odd. We just can't learn you.

RE: "The admin. was a failure and it left the US in a terrible position."
Although I have serious misgivings in regards to Bush and the current admin.'s policies, one thing holds TRUE-We HAVE NOT had another terrorist attack in our homeland. This one FACT shows that this administration is FAR from a total failure.

I fell for the "DON'T VOTE 4 THE OLD GUY" campaign back in '96. I wont make that mistake again.

An enlightening and believable article. Any problematic solution needs to be tempered with a "hows that working for you?" approach. Someone (guess who) was very bullheaded.

So this is the lesson? That the US should embrace multilateralism under the umbrella of international law?

Fareed, I'm disappointed in you. Bush's biggest mistakes have been the erosion of constitutional guarantees, the centralization of power in the hands of the executive, the creation of a police state, and expansionary monetary and fiscal policy. The Iraq fiasco in historical terms is just a blip by comparison. Multilateralism will not restore habeas corpus, protect against search and seizure, and prevent warrantless wiretapping. Diplomacy will repair the balance of power so that we have more than a rubber-stamp congress and a judiciary that guards the constitution. Internationalism will not guarantee that our children will be able to travel freely in this country without being subjected to suspicion and interrogation (and possible detention without trial - Bush's laws allow this). Alignment of the IMF with the "new world order" [your words] will not finance the massive 4 trillion dollars of national debt this country has undertaken under Bush, nor will it tame the unprecedented inflation that is about to come in order to fund it.

So I am afraid that the wool is being pulled over citizens' eyes here. Yes, the Bush administration has become more pragmatist in the area of international affairs, which is a good thing. But the Bush's administration and the Congress - Republican and Democrat have committed heinous treason against their oaths to defend the Constitution against enemies both foreign *and domestic*.

I don't have a problem with living in a multi-cultural, international world. But I cannot stomach living under the tyranny of a "unitary executive". The time is soon coming when we Americans must decide whether we will say with our ancestors "give me liberty or give me death", or whether we would rather just have another beer and watch football. With a press that betrays us like this, I am not optimistic.

If rejecting the logic of all that went before him, attempting to re-invent the wheel, then abandoning that approach because it was a dismal failure, resorting to an incredibly expensive cut-and-try routine until something finally worked (or at least didn't fail so noticeably), all the while lavishing public monies on his cronies and refusing to acknowledge that there were ever any errors in the first place is your idea of success for Bush, then I have to ask: what would have been required in order to label his administration a failure?

  • Posted By: AmerCitizen @ 08/10/2008 7:14:56 PM

I believe George W. Bush did what was needed after the attack on 9/11. Anything less wouldn't have been acceptable to the American people at the time. We lost alot of good citizens that day. Of course, we American have short memories after we see the cost and lives that it has taken. There aren't any winners, when war occurs,
Our international policies should change! We shouldn't try to be the World leader, just a member of the World.
It should be noted that the Senators and Congressman have a lower rating than the President. Maybe the American people aren't happy with any of our leaders preformance.

Who do we vote for? Someone with little experience or someone that has been part of the policy making over several years. Doesn't give us much of a choice! Try Mr. A or B. we still don't have the right ones to make good changes in the Senate, Congress or Presidents position.

  • Posted By: k.brantley@yahoo.com @ 08/10/2008 7:07:46 PM

And congress rating is so much better!Stop the blame game take responsibility for what they have not gotten done.Dems are in power as they wanted.Stop blaming others for not getting the peoples work done.Send them all home they have gotten to fat and comfortable spending our money, and blaming others.Get out of the way get new blood in office and get away from the blame game.

Statements like childer's, while perhaps true, do nothing to promote compassion and Peace. There has to come a point where we all change our automatically-negative ways of thinking and reacting. I am not a political or religious person, in fact, I believe that both have spoiled what we all could have, right now. Every single one of us.

Where does one learn the truth about a president and what they have done? How can anyone believe anything?

    Did I spell everything correctly?
