I just hope I made a difference, I can't vote for myself, I'm too young. But if I at least convinced one person to vote democrat instead of republican, I've done my part. (seriously, my last comment)

Well guys, I think I've made my point on this site. It was interesting and fun to debate and argue. But after awhile it seems redundant. You find yourself repeating the same things, and you start lose self respect, going negative or just for laughs instead of really proving your point. You start to learn about society, from both sides, the republican, the democrat, the independant. You hear from smart people, and from dumb people, and from some just plain crazy or negative people, and everything in between. The reason I was interested in these comments was because I felt I brought something new to the table, and wasn't just repeating other people's comments which I've also seen. I've seen people go from honorable and clean, to sloppy and negative. It was a fun ride. But now I'm starting to see my own dignity slip away, and I don't want to see myself end up so low, just angry and frustrated with the same thing to say over and over again. So I'm going to leave with some dignity. Maybe you'll hear from me in another four years, who knows. Just have fun commenting, and don't get too angry or frustrated, it's just not worth it. (last comment)unless I have something new to say, but besides that (last comment)
What bush got right: Finding the new common ennemy for the west wich is islamic terrorism as communism once was. The west have reunited once again to fight for a common cause.
But Bush became so overconfident of his achivement that he decided to illegally invade Irak. The West was united in the fight against Al kaida(whatever the right spelling is) in Afganistan until the worst president of the US history decided falsely inflate the real terrorist treat. The attack on the US soil was condemned by most of the the middle east and Arab regimes and assistance was effored to the US even by Iran, but the Irak war and its handling left most of them bitter and disillisioned about the US intensions in the region.
These facts are not reported on the regular news shows. Thank you for writing the article. That doesn't mean that I will vote for Mc Cain but I do think it needs to be acknowledged that the policies 'on the books' need to be studied before discounting them altogether.
englighning article..to follow regular news shows one would never know these facts..Thanks for putting it in perspective. Also I enjoy your progran on CNN.
If the spelling of those posting on this site is any indication, the state of the US educational system is not good.
And we owe it all to BUSH and no child left behind. Thank you
Remember Ole Splash Kennedy was the sponsor of NCLB.
Your concession that Bush has been a failure of course is only an opinion and a point of view and needs to be put into context. Approval ratings do not have much to do with weather or not the Presidents policys will ultimately serve this country.
On the contrary Bush's determination and strenghth has a great chance of ultimately earning the respect of nations around the world. If Iraq is able to administer themselves and become a different kind of democracy that serves it people and gives them the chance to live with some of the same hope we live with, than history will take note. That's how you earn respect and define leadership.

Gary Rickett
Of course we vote McCain, Obama is a fine Senator and needs to stay put until he developes the wisdom and maturity to lead this greatest nation on Earth.
respect of nations around the world? Try scorn and redicule. We have lost our respect under Bush.
quite untrue. See Sarkozy, Merkel, Japan, Italy, Poland, Eastern Europe, S. Korea, etc. See the warm reception America (and Iraq) received at the olympics. Oh, wait...you're just a hater, you don't want to hear it.
Sarkioszy and Merkel gave Obama a very warm reception, remember these are leader of the two countries that were the strongest opposition to our invasion of Iraq. I have been to Eastern Europe, Bulgaria specifically and they think Bush is an idiot there. U.S. is NOT well liked in South Korea. You are delusional!
I believe that building 7 wasbrought down by the CIA in a controlled domolition and until I see proof otherwise that is the only logical explanation for it. Too many unaswered questions about 9-11
No, unemployment and gas numbers has risen dramatically since Bush started the Iraq war and started borrowing $12 billion dollars from China each months. Which meant the dollar dropped, which means we had to pay more for the same amount of oil, as well as we cut oil production in Iraq with our war, a number of oil facilities were burned, those who depended on low gas prices to get to work, couldn't pay for gas, the mortgage crisis caused by the lifting of housing regulations by Bush, led to many people losing their homes and businesses going bankrupt, as our dollar dropped many foreign investors became worried and took away investments, causing businesses and other groups who depended on foreign investments to crash. Leading to people trying to save money and spending less in the community, causing further businesses to crash. Starting to lead the U.S. as well as many other parts of the world into a recession. See, it's a domino effect. I think it's you who "only read what you want to read" and not the other way around. Good heavens!
Mr. Zakaria,
I think you have misled the readers in your choice of title for this article. I have read the article, twice just to be sure I didn't miss it the first time, and I am hard pressed to find anything in your article where you state President Bush has done anything right. In retail we call it "bait and switch". As I read this article, which was primarily a Bush-bash I noticed that there were not one but two ads for Obama and one of those annoying cross-eye bush's IQ is 125 ads. Whith all this considered do you really expect that readers will find your writing unbiased? I surely do not. Newsweek it appears has already had the Presidential election and declared Obama POTUS.
It's quite sad to read your article every word you write is used to minimize what President Bush has accomplished and to distort what the administration has done. Here's just a couple of examples, aid to Africa was tripled under the Bush administration when Republican's controlled the senate, house and the White House, so please why add 'it was a bipartisan effort ' what did the democrats have to do with it, and you don't mention another important part about Bush's aid for disease and famine, that he insisted it be administrated by the American government and under the American banner instead of under the United Nations or some such international group and that liberal like you didn't like it but now the smart ones have come around they have realized the best publicity America has in winning the hearts and minds of vulnerable people around the world is when food and aid comes with the American flag all over it, and that he made aid dollars and grants come with conditions of accountability from the countries leaders. The Iraq war, Generals and the Ambassador took it on themselves to talk to the sunnis', insinuating that Bush and his advisors didn't know that the American ambassador was talking to all these sunnis groups and making deals with them , really, and I like how you just gloss over Bush's most important decision about Iraq after the 2003 invasion , the surge adding more troops when everyone from his Generals, liberals, democrats , republicans, all the so called elite opinion ( people like you) was talking about getting troops out as fast as possible and that he had only a couple people supporting him McCain being one and General Peterus another. Palestine , it was Clinton that told Bush not to deal with Arifat , that he couldn't be trusted and that's exactly what they did, the minute he died the administration brought the Peace Process back to the table and Bush is the only President to ever mention a two state solution. There are so many more instances but I really can't be bothered, people like want to believe what you want to believe, and to liberals Bush has to be a failure you've staked your careers on it.
Yawn. More partsan crap from a partisan pundit in partisan rag.
Criticizing Congress for taking a vacation, and mentioning Bush calling them back into session is kinda ironic, considering the fact that Bush has taken more vacation time than any other U.S. President in history. Of course he'll be on permanent vacation soon, thank goodness!
Bush has not really called them back into session. He has the athority under the Constitution to call Congress back into session, but he has not done this. Only in the media has he "called" for them to return.
You know, press...you can't spend 7 years pounding someone and then expect people to take you seriously when you try to write something halfway appreciative...which you've barely managed to do here, btw.
This isn't much of an article. Bush got a great deal "right." You choose to ignore all of it and just rehash the usual. You need a fresh perspective.
Bush didnot know 911 was doing to happen we were going to war when he 1st ran for Pres.
oil was going to be a problem. Maybe the Senator and Congress should have help the Pres out instead of fighting among themself
Vote McCain
So you think Congress should help the President invade a country for their oil? Get real.
Crap McShame
You need to read more real history. Look up Prescott Bush. He knew it all to well what he was doing when he did it.
All this article is saying is that Bush spent 6-1/2 years "staying the course," and 1-1/2 years frantically trying to clean up his mess.
That doesn't make him a president worth praising, it just underscores what a self-serving jerk he was right from the beginning.
Contrary to what Mr. Zakaria says, nothing has changed about George Bush. He is still the same demagogue, the same spoiled, entitled bully who can only deal with his inadequacies by putting the blame on someone else, the same self-absorbed jerk who is more worried about his place in history than the history he made.
I've been ashamed to be an American since the day he took office, and I won't be proud to be one again until the day after he leaves.
YUP! You are totally in support of the DNC's Americans Suck First campaign!
Feel the shame!
This very Americans Suck First campaign is costing the DNC,and you may notice it's approval as custodians of the Congress is lower than George Bush! And this low approval will be a ball and chain around Obamas ankle in the race to the White House!
The Americans Suck First campaign needs more support from believers like you! And more true believers! And it will still fail.
AMERICA is a great country! Americans are great people! America ROCKS!
It is not an Ameridcan sucks first campaign it is a Republican sucks period campaign. John McCain is also a part of Congress, but you try to only tie it to Obama.

Why is one Bilderberger, Fareed Zakaria, expected to be trusted regarding his opinion on another Bilderberger, Goerge Bush?
This is pure pro-NWO (as is mentioned in the text) propaganda.
Don't buy into it.
Intergrity of this country is what we lost. All the lapdog reportering will never make it right.Immoral from the start ,causing thousands of Iraqis death. To try and make this war right is SAD or just doing my job as a lapdog.
What a great article...hope the Obama team reads this before his swearing in on Jan 20th
