Hello? University of Texas vs. Texas A&M!
I just read this article without even seeing the comments and I seriously beg to differ the Amherst vs. Pomona. Amherst vs. Williams sounds more like it to me. I mean have you ever been over here in Williamstown to observe the rivalry in any sport between these two colleges? Very intense and great to watch any sport between these two, especially the football games.
Amherst vs Williams: Their rivalry goes back to the founding of Amherst by renegade Williams students, who absconded with a chunk of the Wiliams library to create Amherst. If history determines a rivalry, then this is the one, not Amherst vs Pomona.

As small schools go, the Wesleyan, WIlliams, Amherst rivalry, known as the Little Three, is one of the oldest in college sports. In some cases, alumni would rather see their teams win the Little Three than the conference championship, it's that big of a deal.
Hey, what about USC versus UCLA?

I agree Duke-UNC is a crazy rivalry and it spans a long time, any one who watches college basketball knows about it
I went to Ohio State while my cousins were at Michigan during the Woody Hayes-Bo Schembechler era. I thought nothing could compare - until I moved to Raleigh, North Carolina.
Carolina-Duke is an intense rivalry, in no small measure because the two schools are only eight miles apart. Add in the fact that one is a public university, and one is private, and the ongoing sneering and name calling is hard to avoid. Kids as young as kindergarten age will staunchly defend their Rams or their Dukies, and can frequently tell you who plays first string on their respective basketball team before they can read.
Even emergency room admissions drop on the nights Duke plays Carolina, at least during the 2 hours the game is televised.
And the rivalry extends past sports - both have first-class academic reputations, and it isn't unusual for lawyers, doctors, nurses, accountants, and other professionals in any North Carolina work place to heatedly advocate that their school is superior, and that 'other' school just a bunch of SAT flunkies.
I even once heard a minister proclaim that god made the sky Carolina Blue - and another one immediately called him a heretic, because anyone could tell that the sky was Duke Blue.
Wyoming vs. Colorado State University
The 2 schools are some 55 miles apart. They started playing football against each other in 1899. They've played every year since 1946. This year will mark the 100th football contest. At stake is the "Boot" trophy, a bronzed GI combat boot that has been the prize since 1968. Besides game 100, the boot record is tied.
The rivalry is heated between to Pokes and the Rams. Many pranks have been perpetrated over the years. The Rams through bananas at the Pokes one year before the game started. The Pokes have kidnapped the Rams mascot and burned their logo on the midline of the Rams football field with acid.
