She sounds like a nut! It is a shame John Edwards did not see through this nut case and let his other head do the thinking for him! I can only assume Mr. Edwards was not in a mentally healthy place at the time and was looking for answers to why life is what it is. He should have communicated with his wife and maybe even a therapist to seek answers or support. Not go for some woman that seems to be on another planet!

There's and old saying, 'I'd rather deal with crook who knows what he is doing than an honest man who doesn't", for me, I rather have a President who has lived than one that hasn't! Powerful men need to be given a pass on these things and their privacy should be respected. Churchill said of a blue-nosed goody two shoes rival ""The man has none of the virtures I respect, and none of the vices I admire". I could easily say the same of Bush!

First of all... People cheat everyday in this world.. it just so happens he is one of the unlucky people in politics that got caught. I'm sure this goes on everyday whether it is in the governement or your next door neighbor. So, he is just being brought out because he is in the government. If this is the worst thing that happens in this world.. LET IT BE!

    • Posted By: bellypotamus @ 08/12/2008 8:30:07 PM

I beg to differ on that...just because affairs go on all over the place doesn't make them less sinful...murder, rape, theivery etc. etc. have been going on all over the world for centuries too, but doe that make it ok????no! So don't shrug and act like just because something is commonly happening that it makes it somehow ok...It doesn't!!

      • Posted By: sciongirl07 @ 08/12/2008 8:38:04 PM

No, that doesnt make it ok. But just because he is the high up person that he is, everybody makes a HUGE deal out of it. Him cheating on his wife has nothing to do with the way he wants to do his job. Good lord, what if he was gay or black? I'm sure that would be a target on his back too huh? Everyone makes mistakes but why make their personal lives HELL because of it?

It is John Edwards that has made John Edwards, and more importantly his new daughter's and Elizibeth Edwards, live's hell. He is a public person who, luckily, failed in his bid for the highest office in the land. He makes a mockery of trust, integrity, and judgment - and you want him to be left alone so we don't hurt his feelings?!? He has long been known to be a two-faced hypocrite by many, now he has even proven it to his closest supporters - his family.

It's not even the fact that he cheated that bothers me, and I'm sure many Americans. It's the fact that he cheated on his wife while she was sick with cancer. Cheating is reprehensible, don't get me wrong, but it's the hypocrisy of it all that bothers us. He made such a big deal about how he loved Elizabeth.... I think the American public is sick of people who have the ability to set off a nuclear bomb lying to us. Clinton's cheating bothered me too.... but not nearly as much as this does. God knows (yes, I said God) that I'm not sin free, but if I were in the public eye you can bet your hindparts I wouldn't be that stupid.

This is just the kind of bs so called news the power structure wants you to focus on. This kind of junk has nothing to do with anything that matters in your life. It is common knowledge that all the people in government are hard core criminal scum.

While all you jello brain morons are fighting over who is dumber, republicans or democrates, both parties are raping the Constitution, stealing your money, invading and killing innocent people, invading homes and stealing guns in New Orleans instead of bringing help, setting up more survailence cameras, spying on you, cracking down on free speach, putting out fake news stories, devaluing the dollar, conducting marshal law drills, getting you mentally prepared for a flu out break that they KNOW is coming and attacking everyother freedom you thought you had.

But hey don't worry and especially don't think. Just take the knight off, go be a drunk loser or watch your mindless tv.

With no intent to discredit anyone, Ms. Hunter is obviously , in the generic sense, a whore. I have never liked Edwards and have always believed he was and is a fraud. But, what about Mr. Darman? Does this article not put him in the same category as Ms. HUnter? Each has abused personal relationships. As mush as I dislike Edwards,, he doesn't deserve this kind of treatment. I pray for his wife and family. He can deal with the fruits of his personal immorality. His family deserves better treatment.

she helped him make history all right..... he will be remember for this embarrassing incident above all else

Personally, I like the line she attributed to Ms. Elizabeth's energy and how "one day the world will know what she's about..." Well, looks like Reille's chicken came home to roost....now everyone knows the truth about her.

  • Posted By: anewsreader @ 08/12/2008 8:52:00 PM

Elizabeth I am sure saw through Rielle. Rielle sounds like one of those women to stay away from. Charming but dangerous. Mr. Newsweek reporter, if I were you, I would send the flowers back, do not return Rielle's calls, break off communication. You are thinking she's a story? Yes, she is a piece of work.

It's such a shame that we feel that we have to air everyones dirty laundry in this country. Some marriages don't survive after the preverbial"news gets out" even ordinary families. Mrs. Edwards is fighting breast cancer give the woman a break! If she loves her husband God Bless her, but maybe she loves her family more. She probably doesn't want to leave them in shambles with their father if she does not recover.

What a bunch of BS coming from a reporter looking to get into some young ladies pants. For the proud 50 year old who has never voted, thats fine you just sit your silly ass down and let the rest of us make a chioce for you and you can whine about it later because you were to lazy or stupid to make your own choices. I'm sure that somewhere in your family tree there are more than one that died so you would have the right to sit on your fat dumb ass and blame the rest for poor politicians. Get a life dumb *** and go vote if you don't like the way things are its your fault. Better yet don't vote you are more than likely a gimme voter anyway.

  • Posted By: Esjodin @ 08/12/2008 8:49:55 PM

Edwards isn't the nominee, nor is he even holding a govt. seat right now. This isn't entertainment people, it's not just a good summer read. The people involved are going through a lot of pain right now. Yes, it was wrong and it sucked that he lied about it. If he was the nominee, it might be a different story... But I'm not throwing any stones here, afterall, we're all human and we all make mistakes.

I am always saddened when a husband has an extra marital affair. Waht I cant understand are the women who go into an affair knowing the man is married , has children etc ,. Edwards doesnt seem the aggressor here to me in fact in many cases I think it is more the womans fault That is what I dont understand We can all have affairs if that is what we want..But as a decent person I would never want to base my happiness if it meant someone else would be hurt ,.the wife, the children , the marriage etc ..I just couldnt do it ..and so in many cases it seems to me it is the woman who thinks litle or herself who does have an affair ...These are not young girls as a rule but knowledgable women who know full well what they are doing ...They are not seduced but seem to be on the prowl I feel sorry for the men in these situaltions When rhey say they regret I feel they do , they are remorseful and it is sad to think they have to live with this ,..An adult who knows about how to turn someone ON and uses it against some one just to make them feel better , regardless if they are male or female or to me the lowest type of human there is ....alana

    • Posted By: Darkwood45 @ 08/12/2008 8:48:20 PM

Please....HE cheated....HE, John Edwards....She was just the slut HE chose. Man, too bad Reille had never been told growing up that if a man will do it with you, he'll do it to you.....

    • Posted By: Ms. K @ 08/12/2008 7:52:38 PM

If a wife wants to forgive her cheating husband & stand by his side then she has the right to do so even if some consider her weak for doing such. But to put more blame on the other woman who has not taken an oath before God for better or worse to be faithful like the husband did is pathetic. Hubands have an obligation to their wives, mistresses don't.....its mentalities such as yours that excuse such behavior on the man's part that makes them keep keep cheating and doing what they do.

Well, folks, it's one thing to be an adulterer and make a mistake, but in light of his coming out and saying he's a Narcissist, that is a whole 'nother thing. Do a little researc on Narcissistic Personality Disorder and see what you are actually dealing with before you decide he's just human. Tru NPD is a lack of empathy and is considered to be abuse. Therapsist will tell you they can't be fixed because their sense of entitlement doesn't even allow them to feel they are abusive. These snakes run rampant in politics, sports, the medical field, law enforcement and any profession that allows them to have a group of people that feed their own grandiosity. seriously, anyone who sits and tells you they are a narcissist has truly deep ingrained mental problems, and isn't a personality type I want running the basement of an outhouse, let alone the country! From what I've seen, the majority of these morons are Narcissistic, and I'm proud to say I'm a 50 y/o who has never registered to vote because i have yet to see one of these freaks of nature who I'd want to see in office!

    • Posted By: Goldenrule218 @ 08/12/2008 8:41:01 PM

My ex- is a true NARCISSIST!! Did the "dirty" to me, but I am worth more--After 25 years ( 1/2 my life ) with this "man" and his abusive ways, I have learned - the Hard Way- to respect myself and stand up for my rights- hopefully my sons will get it someday that Mom is not a 2nd rate person--that is what I had to accomplish in "this lifetime" . We all answer to our Creator in the end... Bless all...

Me 2, and thank you! I too have been a victim...many are and the knowledge about these abusive victimisers are needs to get more press. This pervasive bunch let loose on the world are a dangerous and insidious group of pathological liars who have no empathy for anyone and just victimise person after person without consequence. So few really understand how truly dangerous these people are...sadly, they are also pervasive, and end up being the sicko's that are looked up to! Sad...

It's so sad that we feel the need to air everyone elses dirty laundry in this country. Shouldn't this be kept between those that it directly involves. I have been in this situation, some marriages don't have a chance
to rebuild when "the news gets out" even ordinary families. Mrs. Edwards is fighting breast cancer please give this woman a break. If she loves her husband God Bless her. But just maybe she loves Her family more

Two sides to every story. Her side is just a quitly as his. I don't look at one person and blame them when an incident like this happens. He's still a good politician to me and I'am sure she is a good mother. What is her astrololgical sign?

    • Posted By: Darkwood45 @ 08/12/2008 8:45:45 PM

Her astrological sign is frickin' whack job.....

Why isn't anyone discussing McCain's relationship with Cindy prior to him divorcing his first wife? While Newt was having an affair with his admininstrative assistant, he was impeaching Clinton for high crimes and misdeamors. LJB carried on numerous affairs, (See Robt Caro's volume 2 of LBJ biography) Lucy Mercer was in Hot Springs GA with FDR when he died. Eleanor was in D.C. Thomas Jefferson's mistress was his slave. Why in the name of Heaven's is everyone shocked about Edward's affair?

    • Posted By: Darkwood45 @ 08/12/2008 8:44:18 PM

I believe you hit the nail on the head when you wrote that McCain had fessed up in his book. Mr. Edwards never fessed up until he absolutely had to...& if the Nat'l Enquirer wouldn't have pursued this, Mr. Edwards would have NEVER fessed up.

  • Posted By: Esjodin @ 08/12/2008 8:42:43 PM

I do not think he literally meant that he is a narcissist. He just got done running a campaign for US president-- the whole world was looking at this man. The media was constantly by his side, cameras in his face, name ringing everywhere. That kind of attention is bound to go to your head. I'm not making excuses for him by any means, and I'm certain that there are plently of them in politics, etc. etc. What really bothers me is not that he cheated, afterall, we are all human and we make mistakes. It's that he LIED about it after it was made public by the National Inquirer. Like he said "99% of the truth is not good enough".

  • Posted By: Jules72257 @ 08/12/2008 8:42:01 PM

Whether or not someone has an affair has nothing to do with how they would be as president. We ALL have skeletons in your closets. Do you not? That is their own personal business! Just as Clinton's was his personal business...or JFK's...it's not our business and I don't think it should be when it comes to matters of the heart or sex. Yes, one would think that if they are lying about their personal life then won't they lie to the public about matters while in office. They are two separate things. Plus we have good old Pres. Bush and the many that have come before them that lie constantly about their ideals. Come on! Take a good look.
