Wow am amazed both to the one that whines about why reporting this and the one that cause the commotion. What happens to decency and honor? Hmmp .... don't want to talk about it cause it hit close to home? In all history if you gonna cause a scandal you are going to to hear the scandal. If your smart learn from the idiot's mistakes so you won't be dealing this kind of havoc to you love one.....Dont want to read about scandal don't make one! LOL

Honestly, is this news? Who cares about your conversations (on or off the record) with this vapid hanger-on? Back in 2006-2007, didn't you have better things to do with your time and talents? Perhaps a touch of "I could have had an affair with Rielle too" is embedded in the story...but then again, reportage with the writer-as-protagonist is au currant.

Suprise suprise suprise. Had this been known before Obama got the nomanation, Edwards would have gotten it for sure. This sort of activity usually moves you up the ladder in the Democratic party.

"Hayduke1" ...you are resemblance of what ails our society. You take a situation like this and you point fingers always bringing it back to the left / right of our political landscape. The simple fact and unrelenting reality is that he made a mistake, plain and simple. There is no one thumping the bible and your inability to lend credibility to even a remote argument is laughable at best. You represent the fringe of what lurks on both sides of the political landscape; angry, disenfranchised individuals that believe that they have a say or that your jaded opinion matters. All of which is quite sad to be honest and here is one person who is hoping you stay home and don't vote in November. But then again, you'll probably be there early voting for Obama, rallying against Bush and calling for impeachment and then going home to blog on a worthless left leaning website hoping for reversal of capitalism, heavy taxes on "windfall" corporate profits, erasing the capital gains 15% rate and increasing taxes on the "rich" in our country. Too bad for all of us.

Oh...and I'm sure you or some other "enlightened" liberal will write back and say how it is your right to vote and to comment as you see fit....then understand that it is my right as well...so be prepared to swallow the bitter pill. Fair is fair....

Here you go..JAFUR... (Just Another F*c**d Up Republican) You have no idea how many more people have registered to vote for Barack Obama in November... They number in the many millions and all intend upon showing up to vote your simple minded, self-involved society of spoon-fed right wing muppets out of office...and not just to gain the presidency after eight long and miserable years ...Trust me Buttercup... Come the morning after in November...Your K-Street lobby owned muppets are going to be run out of town on a rail...by the bushel...LOL ...We'll give you something very real to cry about...So Dems...Vote Early and Vote Often! Go Barack Obama!!!

I think the most stunning aspect of his cheating is that he risked a lifetime of hard work and years of exhausting campaigning to embark on something so ostentacious as an affair with a cronie. Don't these guys ever learn? Though it's respectable for Edwards to have admitted he became increasingly narcissistic and egocentric as the campaign progressed, this serves as a chilling reminder that such tendencies are salient among men holding or persuing powerful positions. It's scary to think that such narcissism thrives in the highest tiers of government (i.e. what if he HAD been our V.P. or presumptive nominee?).

I find myself baffled by the liberal media and those liberals in the US who find that though this is infidelity at its best, and it seems our democratic leaders are great at it (Bill Clinton...did nothing for this country except allow 9/11 to happen, and then put cigars where they don't belong), and now Edwards. I think it is worth while to sit back and laugh at the fact that this man who people think is so great has disrespected the very woman who stood behind him, risking her own life because of a serious disease and illness process in order to put forth a fighting chance for John Edwards the adulterous snake to try to win a presidency that he doesn't deserve. Oh and by the way, the fact that G. W. Bush has remained faithful to his wife throughout what is the hardest job in the world goes to show what kind of upstanding, polite, and centered person he is, not to mention the fact that he didn't disgrace our White House with tales of interns, cigars, and sexual immorality. People are just stupid!

Boxerlover1? Sounds more like a "Wide-Stanced" Briefslover, instead... LOL...Get over yourself...George W. Bush would be arrested and tried for war crimes (courtesy the Honorable Vincent Bugliosi) if the Haig could get their hands on him..Listen up...Buttercup....Getting a BJ in the WH and Lying and Starting a War of Choice that has cost the lives of over four thousand brave men and women from Amercia and God knows how many innocent civilian Iraqis since 2003.... Just how do those two things equate inside that pointy little head of yours? Oh...and I just looked up the expression "I am a completely ill-informed self-aggrandizing Right-Wing-Fool" via 'Goggling the Internets'...as your Master W likes to call it...and guess what....Your picture was on the Wiki...LOL... God Willing...Barack Obama will be our next president and then we can kick all of your sorry K-Street asses back into the stone age!

Correction....by writing Amercia...I meant of course...Our Beloved America !!! Go Barack!!!

I don't even want to read this article. I have grown tired of hearing about these men in power acting like out of control idiots. I have no faith that politicians could ever do the job, to busy screwing around(literally) for their own benefit. This woman who got involved in the affair is just as much to blame. She could have been the better person and not participate in destroying a family. I have just as much disrepect for her as John Edwards. It is unfortunate that the media will beat this issue to death at the expense of hurting their children and wife. I can't imagine if I were battling a terminal illness to be there for my family and then find out my husband went to another woman's bed.

Thanks for running this story. It's the only really interesting piece I've seen so far, on this topic. I don't much care about the sex lives of politicians, we have more important things to be concerned with. As sharenews indicated, powerful, charismatic men often have alpha male personalities that drive them to bed numerous women. I would rather have a man like that in office than an ineffectual wimp like, say, Jimmy Carter.

I hope Edwards listened to some of Miss Hunter's book advice; "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle is a truly groundbreaking book; even better than that is his more recent "A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose." How ironic that so many people will dismiss pagan, Eastern, and New Age forms of spirituality as "wacky" when the Perennial Philosophy behind them has been around for thousands of years, and is actually much healthier for the human soul than western monotheistic religions like Christianity and Islam, with their vengeful and narrow-minded god, their invention of eternal hellfire for anyone who follows other religions, and their long destructive history of oppression, brutality, torture and mass murder.

Gods forbid that anyone should follow a spiritual path that actually encourages us to unfold our full human potential, and that teaches us to have respect for the earth and our fellow creatures, and to celebrate a diversity of myths and religions, instead of making war against them. True spiritual power is not limited to only one religion, or even just a few. The believers of "only one true god" and "only one right religion" are the ones that got us into most of the messes in history, that we now need to clean up. But whenever anyone tries to move spirituality beyond the narrow-minded confines of biblical monotheism, some people act like that's the craziest thing they ever heard of. Go figure.

      Beautifully stated.

I am outraged and disgusted by both Edwaqrds and Hunter! Going after a married man is immoral, cruel and wrong, wrong, wrong! And where did she pick up on the idea that she is so briliant and intuititve that it is her "duty" to have an affair with a man in a bad marriage? This "New Age" tramp needs to go forth and do something good in the world instead of regurgetating "New Age" epithets and platitudes. And shame on Edwards. These politicians, rock stars and sports heroes spiral out of control with ego.

Did I work on a campaign? Date a married senator? Just tell me please.

  • Posted By: frog @ 08/13/2008 2:11:32 AM

What scandal did I make? I am really curious. Hit close to home? How exactly? Enlighten me?

  • Posted By: frog @ 08/13/2008 2:10:13 AM

Why do you publish this crap at all.

  • Posted By: diehard lib @ 08/13/2008 1:55:24 AM

What is the point of this story on Reille Hunter? Is Darman trying to be the news with what he almost knows?

  • Posted By: Volcano-Lava @ 08/13/2008 1:35:55 AM

As I read many of these comments, I see why our country is in the shambles she's in! The Bible-"toting" (but not "reading") Republicans damn to hell everyone who isn't perfect and the wayward Democrats (w/the exception of Senator Obama) think anything goes, anytime, anywhere! Take a breath and get a grip people!

How sad that this woman failed to see this reporter for what he was - a reporter. Someone who has no problem pretending to be a friend just so he could get easy access to a story. She knew the writer well enough to know when he had lost a relative? Don't tell me she knew you were alway "on the record". Well I guess it's a case of doing "anything for the story", right? This is why the news media can't be trusted to give a true and unbias view of anything.
