Sahasvilli is trying to get he USA and Europe in a World war, he's a Liar, Deciever and Provocer of Strife, but it will Not Work...

I Told you there will be a reclaiming of those Two Seperatist Groups, from Georgia and it will happen Soon...

Obama is Right, Negoiations & Mediation should always be the 1st Choice and War should be on the Table but Military Might, should be the... Last Resort

Its costing Both Countries and the World Less in LIVES and Less in Money to Negoiate than WAR & BLOOD SHED...

Look at this 5 Year War with Iraq and tell me, was it Worth the Lives on Both Sides of this INVASION-OCCUPATION and the Billions Per More Per Month Spent on the Escalation of the Iraq War ?

Yet the Bush Administration is Claiming Russia is Attacking and Invading a Soveriegn Nation !!

Georgia: A Nation that Invaded and Attacked Ossetia, knowing Full well, that Russia had Peacekeeping Soldiers in the area and could Easiliy defeat them, as if to Challenge Russia to a Fight and thinking they would not, that was a Dumb Gamble and it is Sakashvilli's Major Blunder, Sakashvilli is No Leader.

    No Sir...Reeee

You communist swine bask in ur glory now, coz the time for honoring yourselves will soon be at an end. When the US gets out of its Iraqi mess, then smashes the hadji's in Pakistan, YOU, Russians will have to ask yourselves..."Do we attack those US Soldiers and Marines, since they have shown up like ghosts?" Or do we stand down, and not risk a battle with US forces? Putin is still the man in charge, and his actions speak louder than words. Now Russians you have oil money, and want ur sattellite states back, but you are NOT getting them back. YOU WILL NEVER CHANGE. XVIII Airborne Corps could put boots on the ground within 18 hrs. Don't get too comfy you communist swine.

"When the US gets out of its Iraqi mess".
Only one comment: "IF the US gets out of its Iraqi mess", you are deep in your own ***, stop to teach other people how to live beofre you manage your own problems.

The strong and wicked Russia is not good for the world peace. Western world has to support the weak Geargia or risk being subservant to Real Evil Empire of Russia

Rindo, Really come to Russia - and you will see WHAT is RUSSIA from inside!
No one wants any war! No one pretends on new territory! We want to work, to have fun and travel the world as tourists and so on! Stop blaming us in communism or firing up any conflict!

Have you been in Russia or you just believe whatever they write in newspaper? Please don't, people like Mr. Barry had very good time and money during cold war and they just want to return that sweet time.

Its a damn shame, coz there is only 4 NATO members that have the guts to fight. The Germans better up thier paltry 1.5% of thier GDP they spend for defense now to about 3.5%....if they thought Russia was no threat, they were wrong. The Russians are flipping NATO off coz they know its a wolf with no fangs. Bang up job in A-stan Germany.....cowards.

I always admired "Western democracies". Now I understand how I was cheated... Look at CNN, its a good old Soviet style Ministry of Propaganda.

I don't see any reason why the US should be the first to send troops when Eorope is clearly being threathened.

I am seeing a strange colliery between what is happening in Georgia and Cuba in 1961.

It is almost like a Bay of Pigs affair. In the planning phase, it seemed like a good idea for Georgia to force Ossetia under its control but when execution commenced, they realized there is going to be no support for this one.

After the Bay of Pigs April 1961 came the Cuban missile crisis, October 1962, only a six month span, could another nuclear show down be in the not to distant future.

The armadas are being assembled, the Russians are bringing theirs and we are bringing ours.

Boy oh boy what implications that could have on the electoral process and/or transfer of power.

Who knows maybe this time it will actually result in a nuclear exchange.

WHOAAA!!!! WWIII much? Also, let's not forget that Russia did NOT get involved in the U.S.'s little illegal invasion of Iraq!
The U.S. has NO moral leg to stand on here. Also, let's not forget that Georgia IS the aggressor here, even though Russia's response was utterly exaggerated. Russia is taking advantage of Georgia's mistake.

And, the most brutal ruler of the Soviet Union was Joseph Stalin, who ruled from 1922 to 1953. It was Stalin who ordered the massacre in Poland. It was Stalin who "cleansed" nations as he took them over.
It was also Joseph Stalin who was born in Gori, Georgia who is STILL revered today in Gori. The Georgian soldiers met at Stalin's statue in Gori before they broke the cease fire truce on the night of August 8 and invaded South Ossetia with massive fire and killed 1500 - 2000 civilians.

It was the Georgian President Saakashvili who ordered the "cleansing" of separatists in South Ossetia. Are all Georgian people in favor of genocide? Or are Joseph Stalin and Mikhail Saakashvili just demented leaders who happen to be Georgians? I hope it is the latter.

Do you remember the recent and still ongoing history of Serbia and Kosovo? Do you remember the Western World bombing Yugoslovia (Serbia) because of the genocide committed on the Albanians? Do you remember that Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic was on trial at The Hague for war crimes? Do you remember that the Western World backed and funded Kosovo's independence?

How can the United States and the Western World support Georgia's President Saakashvili after he ordered the cleansing of separatists in South Ossetia? How can the Western World stop Russia from bombing Georgia in response to the Ossetia killings? There is now little difference between Saakashvili's actions and Milosevic's. Russia is only responding in the same manner that the Western World did with Kosovo.

Re: "In history, as the great French President Charles de Gaulle remarked???no doubt plagiarising someone else???the only constant is geography."

I hope the editors of Newsweek will spare us further jingoistic put downs of the French. So unoriginal. In fact, bashing the French is so common, John Barry might himself, be accused of being piratical. His use of the word "appeasement", certainly is so. That he and his friends are perfectly happy, once again, to waste American blood and treasure on yet another, poorly thought through foreign adventure, boggles the mind.

Georgia is making genocyde. We are watching the Great Lie from Internet! The reality is that Saakashvili FIRST bombed Tskhinvali on the Day of the Olympian Games! Georgian soldiers SHOT Russian Peace-making armies, peaceful population FIRST and only AFTER this Russia moved army to prevent further destruction. Remember Kosovo, and the US position in that case!
If you understand the reality, that means your have a free mind.
P.S. Please, send this message to all your friends. Thank you!

Holy cow, doesn't Newsweek have editors? How on earth did this uninformed, psycho screed get into a national magazine? Or is Newsweek now being paid to propagandize by the Georgian lobbyists a la AIPAC?

    Please, God, make it stop.

Georgians around the world really needs to wake up and see where their Saakashvili brought them.
If you are in any stage of normal mind how can you order fire from tanks, artillery and rockets against sleeping city of Tskhinvali and many villages. How can you give orders to kill peace-keeping forces that supported peace there for so many years. And now he (Saakashvili) wants help from the USA. As an American I already called my Senator and Congressmen to act fast and stop any support to Georgian bloody regime. Saakashvili should be arrested and brought as soon as possible into Hague War Crime Tribunal. There is his place!
Georgian people! Stop your dictator before he ruins your country completely and bring even more sufferings in your life. Wake up! The world is shocked with your brutality and treacherous behavior. A little more of such methods of ???restoring a constitutional order??? and you will be a pariahs of this world.

You can't trust the kremlin. He lies all the time. You have to realize Georgia responded to being attacked by Ossetian separatists and returned fire. Russian "peacekeepers" were there and Russia had pre-planned and mobilized their military to take-over Georgia before the conflict ever began, right outside of Ossetia. You have to understand that Russia staged this whole massacre of Georgia. It fully plans on taking control of the democratically elected country and committing genocide, again. We, the Americans, must defend democracy at the face of the kremlin, who shows no mercy.

Commenting here is nearly pointless. It is populated largely by those who view the center of evil in the USA and the heart of that evil in the dastardly duo of Bush & Cheney. Every event and every word must comport to the objective of affirming that desired reality. If Stalin was murdering Ukrainians today they would say, "Yeah but Bush shock and awed Iraq!", wrong or right, as if that has anything to do with the current situation. These commentators don't care about Georgia, or Russia for that matter, they care about validating their obsessive hatred of Bush. If Russia ends up completely annexing Georgia they won't care. It'll be just another way to bash bush and bolster their need for a whipping boy.

Personally I'm not sure we need to send troops in unless Russia actually attempts to annex Georgia. If we can actually unite Europe around the firm and sanctions, kick Russia out of the G8 if they don't agree to an unconditional ceasefire and mediation, and induct all remaining and willing East European countries into NATO and the EU. If Putin and his puppet Medvedev are willing to annex Georgia or install a puppet it will be because of the callous isolationist attitudes like those displayed here. Those who's grudges do not allow them to imagine that condemnation lies at anyone's doorstep but George W. Bush's.

Ya, thats it you moron, lets send in the 82nd for ANOTHER (multiply now by 6) tours, to another f'd up conflict...wow. Our country is now run and governed by desk jockey pundits, old white men secure in Washington, and an ignorant education system. Wow, so proud to be American.
All people like you Mr. Barry, think only with bombs. I wish my tax dollars would pay to bombing morons like you and our "elected" administration. Pathetic.
