Cuba is not Americas backyard, how will US react when Russia places nukes there? Get out of Poland!

Not many people like USA :)

The conflict in Georgia is nothing new. This military move by the Russians was hatched in the Kremlin long ago. They were only waiting for the most opportune time to make their move. During the Olympics , when the attention of the world was turned to the Games, was a good time to strike. Putin has been seethign in the Kremlin for years, as he saw power slipping away from him as more and more countries within the former Soviet block became friendly with the West. He had to strike before Georgia and the Ukraine became members of NATO as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are. Now the Russian Bear is on the loose to take back the errant children into the waiting arms of Mother Russia. The West cannot allow this to happen. Folks,m the Cold War is on again.

You neglected to mention that Georgian initiated the hostilities by sending it troops into South Ossetia to bring the area back under government control.

      • Posted By: Tommypie @ 08/15/2008 3:10:43 PM

What you mentioned was only an excuse by the Russians to invade Georgia. The onlaught on the Georgian people is completely disproportionate to the Georgians sending troops into Ossetia. This was pay-back time by the Russians. They hate the pro-west leadership of Georgia and want to teach them a lesson, that they (the Russians) can still wave the Hammer and Sickle when they want to and subjugate free countries in the former Soviet block.

        • Posted By: raddave @ 08/16/2008 4:04:09 AM

If it was an excuse then the Georgian govenment provided it to the Russians.

RE: Comment to Rick Haverson-Before I begin, Rick, let me first say, I served in our military for 26 years. I suppose you applauded Clinton when he did nothing about the very first bombing of our towers by terrorist and the fact that he was practicaly handed Bin Ladin but let him slip thru. He also gave China our missle technology, thereby literraly getting their missile program off the ground. As for the lies you say Bush told, what lies...When I was in Okinawa after 9-11 when a NPR International report stated that when we got back our prisoners of war from the gulf war, their clothing had traces of radiation from when they were traveling in trucks. While we didn't find large quantities of chemical weapons, our military did find buried chemical weapons...yet those images never made the headlines here in the states. The fact that Iraq had violated UN Resolutions and was a mass murderer indicates we would have invaded IRAQ no matter what. The only thing I truly fault the Bush administration is allowing China and IRAN to build up their nuclear power infrasture. The blood, sweat and tears of our military and civilian contractors demands we would build up those areas. After all, it was the US that secured the oil infrastures to the point where IRAQ has a surplus.
As for what's going on in Russia and Georgia...this is only the beginning. Russia has already stated that they are building a new class of submarine as well as a whole new generation of nuclear weapons. BTW, Poland is not in Russia's back yard, which is where those missiles are to be deployed. Russia is banking on the west being soft and will not back those former states of the old soviet union.

American administration armed and trained Croats, Muslims in Bosnia, Albanians on Kosovo and Georgians. Is it normal that Russians start arming and training Iranians?

Isn't it odd how all newscasters forget to mention the missiles the United States wants to plant in Russia???s backyard?
This is exactly what led to The US and Cuba???s demise. Wake up people. There is a lot of propaganda going on here.

It took the United States the better part of a week to bring aid to New Orleans when the dikes broke???.
But with its interest in the pipeline (OIL) through Georgia??? they pretend to bring in aid to a country not in need of. Really they used military personal under the guise of aid??? they are merely sacrificial lambs placed there for a completely different reason.

The thing that bothers me??? how foolish does the Bush administration think we are?

Yes I am from the United States but I am a true American. I look at the Bush backers as not true Americans. They have hurt my great country and should be deported. They are not true Americans. Their death would be too good for them. Do not judge us on what they do. We tried hard to stop them from invading Iraq, but their thirst for blood and ignorance was too great.
We do not all think this way. Millions of us true Americans have fought for our country. Fought for human rights and we respect life and freedom. The Bush administration managed to trick many weak minded people into following their lies. Many of us were more intelligent then that. We are the true Americans.

    Best regards,

    Rick Halverson

To recap the dynamic duo of 1Guru and Tommypie below there:
    Russia = Evil Villain
U.S. = Flawless Ruler of the Universe

Funny how that opinion isn't shared outside U.S. borders. Travel abroad a little and you start to notice things.
    1) Mention you're American and watch the other person's cordial smile turn to an expression of loathing.
    2) Mention you're Russian and watch the person's cordial smile turn ear to ear as they invite you to the nearest pub/bar/club for a lively chat.

Might want to put down that Kool-Aid fellas... the world does not belong to U.S.

I'd like to see Ivan knee-capped. Perhaps the West, and Asian friends, could boycott each and every product of the new Soviet Union (yes, even their g__d___ oil. Then ostracize them, but watch them like a hawk. And make it VERY clear, that any more "adventures" will subject Ivan to more stringent and long-lasting, if not also damaging, responses. Let him toy with what that might mean.

Both Hindus and Mayans predict the end of world being set on western calendar year of 2012. Recent major earthquakes in China and west US predict a bigger disaster in east Atlantic Ocean where legendary Atlantis used to locate. The disaster is not only vocalno erruptions but huge tsunamis scattering all over Atlantic Ocean.

Don't look at Georgia ... look at Ukraine. Thats the biggie and if we let the Russian's move as they have, be prepared for them to command the separation of Crimea from Ukraine. Keep in mind that Crimea already has a degree of autonomy to go along with its Russian speaking Russian leaning population. What happens when Russia, upon the looming expiration of its lease on ports in Sevestopol (2017) decides it doesnt want to leave and chooses to stip up thing by claimning its sending troops into Crimea to defend its citizens. Hell, what happens if it decided to defent Russias in West Hollywood. Where's the line to be drawn? Just remember this .. scratch a Russian and your fingers will be covered in slime.

    • Posted By: tang3nt @ 08/14/2008 4:04:36 AM

I am Russian. And let me tell you first of all that I don't want you anywhere near me, let along scratching me with your filthy fingers. Come to think of it, that's kind of the message Russia is send the U.S. with its actions in Georgia. And let me apologize in advance if I am giving you too much credit here to see the parallels.

You shouldn't react to this guy. I am an American and his hatred and disgusting opinion are as Un American as any other form of bigotry. The party of greed and personal interest in America is not doing well in this election. They need people to hate in order to succeed.

(Having exhausted all of the available boogiemen, they had to get one that the fossil McCain remembers terms and conditions of, the Soviet Union. He really hates you, after that pleasant stay he had in one of your visitor centers in Hanoi. So a vote for John is obviously a check mark for a war in Iran and now Russia. Johnny MaC doesn't like a lot of people. He also has a couple of adjustment disorders and is as stable as old dynamite in a sun baked shed. Did I mention his top adviser used to lobby for Georgia?)

Yes, and there are plenty of frozen conflicts that this Administration has now fanned into conflict. Kicking Russia around for 8 years is going to have costs. Steep costs. I'd suggest recalibrating your military misadventures for much larger game. There are about 9 Million Russians in diaspora comunities that can go Kosovo on you and demand independence.

Isolating Russia with pro-western nations in Russia spear of influence is both tricky and dangerous. It is time to rethink ourpolices. Turkey reponse to the PKK was not expected, people thought Turkeys' admission to the EU was motre important than their right of self interest.

The simple fact is the US has problems with Russia far beyond the Georgia crisis. The Russians are buying up all of the crude thay can get their hands on. This is one of many reason prices are spiking. The other is a world shortage of oil outside of the Middle East. The biggest danger of war is a mis-calculation on oil supplies resulting in our economy being crippled. We now import about 70% of our oil, and this policy is becoming the Folly of a Congress that will not act on other energy sources.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 08/14/2008 9:15:56 AM

Russia isn't buying a penny of oil. You are too funny. Russia has 420bln in Gold Bullion in the basement in Moscow. Ivan has been trying to make the Ruble a functional currency, and has not been trading for commodities other than gold. Ivan sells oil. Ivan sells gas. The market jockeys are a bunch of expatriate United States traders, playing Enron games in Dubai, which the Fed has already stuck a fork in.
Stunningly off. You are defending an oil pimps access to pipelines through Georgia, (British Petroleum) and 2000 troops for Iraq to defame a different oil producer, (Yukos, Lukoil, Gazprom, Russia Inc.)
We don't have any problems with Russia other than those related to the American Energy Cartel.

America and Russia ??? so much alike, twins in the mirrow .
Just ordinary happen to be born in Russia girl :o)

    • Posted By: Braes @ 08/14/2008 9:04:58 AM

This was a painfully stupid misadventure, on par with the bay of pigs, only Kennedy was smart enough to not kill Russians or have Americans loose in the field. Strategery is hard when you don't really have one of your own, and have to rely on people with a bygone world view to shape policy.
I hope we fix this soon with an election. I hope also that missiles don't turn up in Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, or any other state in my hemisphere. I hope that treaties can be restored that secured peace. I do not want to re-do the cold war. These people need enemies to rule. Internal and external.

  • Posted By: bighappy @ 08/13/2008 8:03:35 PM

Believe me, the last thing Russia wants is to claim back Georgia. Gergians were the worst parasites on Russian body in Soviet times, Russians don's want to feed them again. All they want is to punish this idiot Saakashvili for 2000+ dead. They will not let Gerogia function until he is in power. And they will kill him then, he does not deserve UN justice.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 08/14/2008 8:48:26 AM

A Georgian, Stalin, killed Soviets by the millions. I read somewhere that in their combined 21 years of independence in the modern era, they have started 7 wars. Maybe not a good place to borrow 2000 troops for Iraq.

  • Posted By: a1109 @ 08/14/2008 4:01:44 AM

Maybe , just maybe , the world would be a hapier place for living without US spreading it`s way of life , so called democracy .Can America live on it`s own?Why they`ve taken a role of a ``world policeman`` . How come fuel in US is as cheap as in kuwait where they have more oil than water? Maybe tha US is a one who`s need to be reorganized or call it whatever you like, and they ,on contrary doing opposite, they trying to make whole world like them selves.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 08/14/2008 8:22:50 AM

Please, the people of the US, like an Osset, never know this is coming. Powerful ugly people who use wars to win elections and use elections to start wars do this. It is how they feed the hands that can bite them too.
Since the President was out of the country, "What did Mr. Cheney know, and when did he know it?" "What do the phone records show for Mr. Cheney in the 96 hours leading to the failed operation?" Back when there were people who cared about the institution of the Senate, these questions would have been pressed after a misadventure such as this into the executive branch like a scalpel.
The Senate is a hall of hand-wringers and fearful wretches.

Russia are expantionists? Why did United States interfere in Ukraine and Georgia to insert puppet regimes? The US Allies are meant to fight for US expantion with foreign troops.

US used humantarian reasons to destroy Serbia and declear illegal independence for Kosovo to gain controlanother puppet state.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 08/14/2008 8:12:24 AM

Because in 2000 when this President stated he had a humble foreign policy, was a uniter not a divider, was never going to engge in nation-building, was concerned about the enviornment and the ecomomy, he was lying like the worthless sack of [expletive] that he is, and almost 50% of the voters +/- fraud, theft and intimidation, supported his candidacy. (Our Democracy is like perfect sausage. There is no such thing.)
We have been Bushwhacked. Russians shouldn't take Bush personally, he hates us here in America too.

  • Posted By: Questions2 @ 08/12/2008 6:06:02 PM

The method Russia seems to be using in gaining its objective of restoring the Soviet Union is to separate a piece from another country and then move in its ???piecekeepers??? to keep that piece for itself.
In conclusion, the international community should make plans for reacting to the next Russian attack on its neighbour. The present reaction is inadequate since Russian forces are still moving deeper into Georgia. The next attack will come since the invasion of Georgia is premeditated and part of a bigger plan (Robert Kagan???s Aug. 11 article in The Washington Post). There are also plenty of ???frozen conflict??? opportunities that Russia can warm up ??? Nagorno-Karabakh in Azerbaijan, Eastern Ukraine that is mainly Russian-speaking, Transdniestria in Moldova, the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad between Poland and Lithuania (access rights for example), the mainly Russian-speaking Ida-Virumaa region of Estonia.

    • Posted By: dinamarshalek @ 08/12/2008 6:27:48 PM

Russian attack on its neighbour? so, what you are saying is Russia should've sit quitly and watch what happens to/with South Ossetia? Saakashvili should've thought a little prior to HIS ATTACK! He is totally responsible for this chaos. No excuses.

      • Posted By: Braes @ 08/14/2008 7:57:45 AM

Further, Russia should pull a Sharon, and start building anoter 20' wall around Ossetia Proper. Then Russia could trap the west with a gambit, give N Ossetia full political autonomy after a referendum and guarantee their rights and sovereignity in the Russian Constitution. (Think A.S.S.R.) Then you have a complete political entity, Ossetia. It remains Russia. Do the same in other frozen conflict regions.

Using Kosovo as an excuse, does not excuse Russias sledgehammer approach in Georgia. This said,Wesley Clark[one of the more idiotic political generals that this nation has produced,a ''first rate,second-rate man''],and Clinton, erred in the minds of both conservatives[Dana Rohrbacher and Tom Campbell],and liberals[Barney Frank], when he so quickly decided to go to war in the Balkans that he did not bother to inform Congress or the UN of his intentions. Indeed, even members of the Joint Chiefs were left in the dark. Liberals rallied to Clintons side in observing that he ''stopped genocide'',which bears veracity,as the trial of Kazadic shows, but few were paying any attention to the rage of the Russian bear in Clarks adventure, which bombed and shelled Serbian civilian targets indiscriminately, seeded the land with uranium-tipped ordinance, even took out the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade, killing several of its staff, hit bridges packed with fleeing civilians, and stupidly allowed the outlaw,al-Qaeda-trained KLA to remain armed. I warned in a piece on AOL News on Nov. 14,1999 that this would not be the end of Russian perfidy, and:

''That they will use Kosovo in a future conflict with a neighboring state is a means to justify their actions, trading brutality[in their eyes regarding the US treatment of their Serb brethren], for brutality''.

It is in times like this that I hate to be correct.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 08/14/2008 7:24:06 AM

We taught Ivan Regime Change, Overwhelming Force, First use of Nuclear Weapons, and armed Islamic Militants commiting terrorism. (Al Qaeda 1.0) We have killed ethnic slavs right up to his backyard. We have been destabilizing governments favorable to him in his comfort zone. We are now threatening his nuclear stockpile.
McBush wants to get tough on Russia. I guess he's gonna nuke them, there isn't much left he can do to keep a promise here.

      • Posted By: Braes @ 08/14/2008 7:48:07 AM

I forgot to mention that we borrowed Gulags (Black Sites) Secret Trials, Torture, Rendition, and threw away courts, law and due process. (willingly!!)
We also heaved our image into the crapper, propagandized our media, handed corporations control of the regulators, and bilked the nation for trillions in wasted war expenditures.
We make the freakin Soviets look good.

    • Posted By: TrueConservative @ 08/13/2008 12:32:54 AM

You are getting your events out of order. Kazadic was in Bosnia, he had nothing to do with Kosovo. Even The Hague kangaroo court stated there was no genocide in Kosovo.

The fact is Clinton's and Bush's policies in Kosovo have provided Russia with the excuse they are using. Right down the line. Look at what we did to Serbia (outside of Kosovo) during the Kosovo conflict. We bombed multiple non-military targets. We actually hit a marketplace with scatterbombs. The Russians certainly are not saints, but don't be fooled into believing we are saints. At least the Russians are fighting a conflict on their doorstep involving former Russian citizens. What was our excuse in Kosovo?

      • Posted By: Lee Holmes @ 08/13/2008 3:36:23 PM

Yet the impetus was the same. In Kosovo,''genocide''was suspected by the Clinton administration, and in both places, did the Russians suspect western perfidy as it applied to their Serb brethren. You are antedating these events. Not applying them to the times, which must be considered in the light of later Russian attitudes regarding this conflict. On Apr. 12,1999,Defense Secretary William Cohen asserted that :

''as many as 100,000 Kosovar Albanians have been killed by Serbian forces. Perhaps as many as 500,000'' [US State Dept.website www.state.gov Apr.14,1999].[actually ,fewer than 400 dead were found].

Of course we now know that these figures were wildly inaccurate. The Russians were saying so even then. Yet it did not stop these events from being played out which created a basis for firm distrust between the Russians and ourselves that only a few of us were warning of at the time. These are the fruits of this mistrust. Russia will merely point to the US with a ''see, they did it too''attitude. Again, this in no way excuses their actions in Georgia.

    • Posted By: raddave @ 08/12/2008 10:21:51 PM

I have to agree with you, the NATO mission against Serbia was a HUGE mistake, the recognition of Kosovo was also a large blunder, it has done nothing but destabilize the Balkans and has set a dangerous precidence for other "break away" regions that are trying to become independant from their country.
