    Jerry Mills.
Saakashvily wanted a swift operation when everybody was busy in China with Olimpics. So he started to bomd sleeping civilans in Tshinvali and shell sleeping peacekepers killing them. When it did not work he started to play victim. " Poor me, Poor Georgia"
Milocevic did not live through his trial so now the world has a chance with this war criminal. Or may be this psychopat belongs to a psychiatric institution

Manuel Noriega seized power in Panama in 1981 after the previous dictator died in a mysterious plane crash. He did hold an election in 1989 but voided the results when they did not please him, claiming ???foreign interference???. He brutally murdered many of the people that stood against his dictatorial rule and acted as a major hub for the channeling of drugs into the US.

Now, lets take a look at Georgia, a democratically elected leader (a real election that was not even voided!) moved his troops inside the country he had been democratically elected to lead and Russia responded by invading even more of his country (they had already invaded the regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia with ???peacekeepers???).

Yes, that is exactly the same situation, your powers of deduction are amazing.

If I were you, I would take a closer look at Georgia's so-called democratic leader before you embarrass yourself any further. He is not a poster child for democracy. However, few of our so-called "friends of democracy" usually are.

After Kosovo, we have no room to criticize Russia.

What would US do if somebody killed 2400 of thir innocent citizens? Oh, I forget, it already happened, and US "unexcusably" carpet-bombed Afghanistan and removed Taliban from power (let alone Saddam). Georgians commiteg pure and simple genoside in Ossetia, and what our politicians and "objective" reportes say. Yes, sure, "Hands off of democratic Georgia!" (by the way, even EU considers Saakashviky legitimacy somewhere between Mugabe and Bush). Russians have right to be mad, they are brutal, and don't bother to equip their bombs with precision-guided devices or drop bread and toys on "brave" Geoggian people. They have their ways to bring people to "justice", and they definitely will not let Georgia function until they depose Saakashvily. And I bet he will not live long. It is time for Bush to look for some other "our SOB" in Georgia.

Stop being hypocrytical and idiotic. If Kosovo has a right to unilaterally declare independence from Serbia and get Western recognition then Abkhazia and South Ossetia have the same right. The conflict between Georgia and these two regions started before the collapse of the Soviet Union. In 1992, they defeated the Georgian army and declared independence, albeit unrecognized. Under a truce signed in 1992, Russian forces have been peace keepers. Then on Thursday last week, President Saakashvili unilaterally abandons the truce and without warning invades South Ossetia, killing 15 Russian peacekeepers. Why this unilateral madness?
If Serbia were to invade Kosovo to assert its territorial integrity, would the west side with Serbia or Kosovo? Saakashvili's gamble failed miserably and now he is crying like a little baby. The West must condemn him for starting the violence just as it condemned Serbia for surpressing Kosovo. Ossetians and Abkhazians don't want to belong to Georgia just as Kosovo did not want to be part of Serbia/Yukoslavia. If there are no double standards here, the West must recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Period.

The US, for one, does not have any moral authority to condemn Russia for rightfully acting to protect its soldiers and citizens in the face of unprovoked aggression by Saakashvili when it invaded and now occupies Iraq for no reason at all.

agree. "punishing Russia? kick Russia ot of G8? " Whatever! I don't think Saakashvilli is a gambler, though... He's an idiot. Arrogant, stupid and naive idiot.

ok I"m not russian or georgian but I guess it's ok for geogians to attack and kill civillians but when they get to mess around with the big guy they are just crying and coming back to US and the world for help. Geogians started and now they just been a cow.

    • Posted By: dinamarshalek @ 08/12/2008 6:31:20 PM

YOU GOT IT! AGREE 100%! Clearly Saakashvili's fault!

I'm sorry but I don't want to sit here and tell you all the bad things the US has caused to Latinoamerica and to the rest of the world. All goverments are corrupted it's just some more than other ones. but invading a third world country is a shame... Irak with no justification... You just have to sit and look at the new and how US image has been damaged specially since the current goverment took place. I understand you have to take care of your interest but a least we have to start putting in practices some values...

  • Posted By: rochin28 @ 08/12/2008 5:55:11 PM

I total agreed that US has to keep their nose out this confilct, speciall when this goverment has initialized unjustifyied wars and killed so many inocents lives.

I think that we should take George Washington's advice and stay out of it. I feel that we have enough problems in this country to worry about rather than worrying about over there. Our first problem get our troops home. Second problem, get rid of Bush. We need to pay attention to our own people for a while.

despite of a strong warning by U.S. officials "not to put a match to the ethnic tinderboxes in south ossetia and abkhazia", saakashvili decided to do whatever he thought would be a great idea. however, turned into a rather stupid move. did he think about whether there is a small chance to win that battle? obviously, not. if he thought it through, he'd predict Russia's reaction. Was he hoping for U.S. to "help" him out with the invasion of Ossetia? Russians are not to blame. Saakashvili made a stupid, arrogant move. If Georgia wants to be a part of NATO and is a "U.S. step-child" it should've consulted U.S. before an action like this (attack on Ossetia). Saakashvili provoked Russia to take actions and now hypecriticaly is putting blame on it.

Excuse me, but I don't believe that Russia intervened when we invaded (yes, invaded) Panama to get a popularly-elected head of state, Manuel Noriega. But, we, as freedom-loving people have a right to expect others to behave themselves. I am sorry, but the hypocrisy is deafening
. Let me get this straight. We can invade a sovreign nation when it suits us. But the Russians can not.

    @ RodRous, Omarr

Actually, Ossetia is not officially recognized by an international group or polticial body. Georgia was asserting it's territorial sovereignty by moving in military forces to reclaim the break away province. Russia has been waiting for monthes for this to flex their muscle by flooding said area with Russian Passports, making the holders pro bono Russian Citizens.

The whole reason this happened is because Russia still operates like the USSR, using force if needed to maintain buffer states between it and western powers. They already lost Poland and the Ukraine to NATO, they weren't going to lose Gerogia to NATO as well, as that would open another attack vector for western pwoers should that day ever come and they take advantage in the knowledge that be acknowledging the existence of South Ossetia as a seperate province to Georgia that it would prevent their entry into NATO because of a compromised border.

Russia is in the wrong, not Georgia, get YOUR facts straight.

Oh MY! the Invasion of Iraq "Cost in MILLIONS of LIVES LOSSED"? My goodness, I had no idea millions had died in Iraq. Thankfully, you informed me. However, this has nothing to do with Iraq or our involvement there. This has to do with the Russian government trying to quash all pro-Western sentiment in the Caucasus region, using an internal affair to advance their violent agenda. You fool.

The invasion of Iraq cost MILLIONS OF LIVES? I wasn't aware. Thanks for educating me.

Keep in Mind, Russia Did Not Invade Georgia. Georgia Invaded Osettia, Russia had Peace keeping Troops in Osettia and came to their Defense and send Georgia back to its own Country, by Military Might....

We Should All Beware of the...

CONSEQUENCES OF TOUGH TALK, HOLLOW DEMANDS & EMPTY THREATS..

French Prime Minister Sarkozy and the European Union are handling this Situtaion Diplomatically and I Guarantee all of you, this Fight will Not COST in MILLIONS of LIVES LOSSED and BILLIONS of DOLLARS SPENT, like the INVASION INTO IRAQ...

    -------------------------------------------------------

MOSCOW/TBILISI (Reuters) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered a Halt to military operations in Georgia on Tuesday but Tbilisi cast doubt on the announcement, saying Moscow was still bombing towns and villages.

The announcement coincided with the visit of French president Nicolas Sarkozy to Moscow on an EU peace mission and seemed intended to help international efforts to negotiate a lasting truce.

Sarkozy said Russia and Georgia, who have been fighting since last Thursday, had not yet agreed a peace deal, adding: "We don't yet have peace. But we have a provisional cessation of hostilities. And everyone should be aware that this is considerable progress. There is still much work to be done....What we want is to secure the best result.
    "

In a first U.S. reaction, Washington's envoy to the region, Matthew Bryza, termed the Russian move "extremely positive".

The conflict over the tiny separatist province of South Ossetia has spooked markets and rattled the West. It began when Georgia tried to retake the pro-Russian region last week, provoking a massive counter-offensive from Moscow.

Using language redolent of his mentor Vladimir Putin, Medvedev criticized Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili on Tuesday as a "lunatic". Saakashvili had promised voters he would win back South Ossetia and a second separatist area, Abkhazia.

"You know, lunatics' difference from other people is that when they smell blood it is very difficult to stop them. So you have to use surgery," Medvedev told a news conference.

Georgians saw it differently, with a huge crowd outside the parliament building in Tbilisi hailing Saakashvili as a hero for defending his country against aggression from Moscow.
