I wonder if anyone familiar with recreational drugs could analyze Saakashvili's behaviour. To me, it looks like he's been high on cocain or some other stimulants.

Yes, Saakashvili is delusional probably has mad cow disease that has inflicted his brain.
"I try to see the world for what it is, not in terms of what our politicians tell us."
I realize you've convinced yourself of that - all dogmatic people believe this to be true. But the fact is that you are incredibly biased in how you view the news. Nobody who is objective can be so absolute in their beliefs and dogmatic in their writing.
"Last time I checked, the USA was a Constitutional Republic"
The US is a representative democracy
I'm curious to know where you think this Pure Democracy ever existed. There have always been some restrictions and qualifications on the idea of democracy, because as a pure ideal it is antithetical to the concept of unity. Thus, liberty must be constricted in order to maintain unity. And representative democracy is a rational constraint: the concept of delegation is ingrained in society and a logical practice when dealing with large numbers.
"If the people had any say, we probably wouldn't have torture, domestic spying, suspension of habeas corpus, secret prisons, or 20 million illegal aliens"
What you don't understand is that all of these are the result of the people having a say. The people largely support the things you list - your hysterical phrasing of them can in fact be applied to laws that have been on the books for years, and which are necessary. You simply disagree with the majority's evaluation of these subjects. They seem big to you because you exaggerate them (a manifestation of your bias).
"the People are morons "
This is, of course, what you really wanted to say. It's what all the ranting left-wingers believe, and why everyone hates you so much, and why you're going to lose again. People are sick and tired of being told they're stupid for disagreeing with you, we're sick and tired of your melodrama and self-importance. You're just a guy with an opinion - an opinion that isn't even yours, just something fashionable you repeat.
You're wrong in your positions, you're wrong in your suspicions, and you're wrong in your conclusions. Work on that, then call everyone else stupid.
"I realize you've convinced yourself of that - all dogmatic people believe this to be true. But the fact is that you are incredibly biased in how you view the news. Nobody who is objective can be so absolute in their beliefs and dogmatic in their writing."
You're playing all the wrong cards for the wrong reasons, friend. You call me dogmatic because I actually get my news from multiple sources? I would call it an informed opinion. A biased person is someone who sees the whole world in terms of "good guys" and "bad guys".
Do you work for the media? Its curious how you characterize my commentary as "hysterical" as if by saying so, that makes it fact.
By the way, I'm not a "left winger". I'm further to the right than you are, so essentially you wasted a lot of time arguing a point from a false set of premises.
Left-wing does not mean 'socially liberal', it indicates a person who wants to destroy the existing social order. It's the radical section of any political or ideological group. In this situation, 'left-wing' would mean 'anti-American'.
You deride our system of government.
You slander your representatives and fellow citizens.
I hate to break it to you, but you're a left-winger.
Since you have no idea what you're talking about, I'll save you some time so you won't have to take random shots at me, wasting yours and everyone elses time. Not that it should matter, we should be debating ideas instead of calling names, but since you need a label, here ya go
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleoconservatism
Actually I'm a paleo conservative, so wrong again.
"The US is a representative democracy"
Not according to the CIA Factbook. https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/us.html
Understand I'm not replying you you - you're too irrational. I'm replying for any people unfortunate enough to read your drivel.
Our governmental structure is that of a Constitution-based federal republic.
Our form of government is Democracy, practiced through representatives, within the above scheme.
Two separate descriptions for two facets of a complex entity.
"What you don't understand is that all of these are the result of the people having a say."
So essentially you're saying that the rollback of freedom in the United States is a consequence of people having their say. Gotcha.
While jblackwell keeps ranting into outer space, perhaps we should pause and reflect on the fact that Russia invading Georgia really shows how powerful the US is in the world, and how useless the rest of the world is in backing and furthering the supported goals of the UN. We have troops deployed and cannot spare manpower; so Russia pushes their luck a little. And big surprise, without the US taking the lead and supplying the weapons and transport and troops, nobody says a thing. Nobody lifts a finger.
The people who are trying to use this as some form of condemnation of the US are hysterical. Recognize them for what they are: they are anti-US zealots who attempt to spin any negative global happening into an attack on the US. But this isn't about us. It's about the whole world.
I think its pretty obvious that YOU are the zealot since you are not willing to critically analyze the role of your own country in the world. I do it because I CARE about what it means to be an American, and whether we are a force for good, or whether we are creating messes and the unnecessary loss of life. God forbid you ever have children, because a child born today begins life $40,000 in debt toward our present obligations and debt. Both our foreign and domestic policies are driving this country into the ground. Our banks are collapsing, we've got people losing their homes, gas is through the roof, food prices are up, the dollar is devalued, we've got 20 million illegal aliens running about, our people are fat and uneducated, Medicare is going away, we torture, we have secret prisons, and we can count our friends in the world on one hand because of the Iraq debacle. The only thing America has that it can be PROUD about presently is the fact we can bomb the hell out of some third world country, and then conscript all Americans to pay for its "reconstruction" for three generations. What we NEED to be doing is evaluating how the fact that we have 700 military bases in 100 different countries and we persistently MEDDLE in foreign affairs is actually translating in a BENEFIT for the American people. Unexamined flag wavers like yourself are what is wrong with this country. You believe what you were taught in grade school, that the USA is some kind of friggin GOD that can do no wrong, but I'm sorry my friend, its time to take a serious look at what we do, why we do it, and make some adjustments.
"Democracy is GREAT if you value freedom ( or anarchy ), but on a long enough time line it fails to represent the people"
Really? Then tell us what form of government better represents the people. Certainly not fascism, socialism, communism, and religious-based rule. Your little rant is based in fantasy, the type of lurid conspiracy-theory nonsense that people like you only rattle off because you believe, desperately, it makes you seem intelligent. Problem is, it's a tired trick, and only morons fall for it. Democracy is the best form of government in history, and democracy and capitalism brought mankind to the absolute peak of its existence. Your juvenile rantings only make you look like a fool.
Name calling doesn't win an argument, but I'll be more than happy to go round and round with you on this one. I try to see the world for what it is, not in terms of what our politicians tell us. If Democracy was the best form of government in history, let us know when we get it. Last time I checked, the USA was a Constitutional Republic. If the people had any say, we probably wouldn't have torture, domestic spying, suspension of habeas corpus, secret prisons, or 20 million illegal aliens. But since we DO have those problems, we must either conclude A) the government doesn't represent us, or B) the People are morons ( which really doesn't make a strong case for letting them affect policy, eh? ) So which is it?
Saakashvili from Hero to Zero in 5 days.
Maybe the Russians should have captured Saakashvili and his generals and turned them over to the Hague for prosecution as war criminals, just like we did to Milosevic. Otherwise the western media will continue to skew the details of what prompted Russian action. They should have presented the world with some ongoing issue to absorb and understand. At worst, they halted a genocide in South Ossetia by acting quickly, gave the U.S. a sense of what they were capable of, gained a sense of what measures we weren't prepared to take, and sent a stern warning to the other ex-republics about what it means to switch sides.
This is a costly lesson for shaky puppets and everyone, even a janitor knows that saakashvili is an American and Zionist puppet, who has ruined his country. Shaka has abused his position and should be charged for treason by his people. Puppets always are like cheap pimps, they stink from far, smelly.
You must understand why we export Democracy. Its not for the benefit of the ruled ( thats the cover ) but its so pre-existing western corporations can enter in and gobble everything up. Democracy creates a weak state that is vulnerable to foreigners, especially those with cash. Don't get me wrong, Democracy is GREAT if you value freedom ( or anarchy ), but on a long enough time line it fails to represent the people. As in the case of the USA we cannot even get ourselves a southern border with Mexico.
Hitler was never elected chancellor of Germany. He was appointed vice chancellor under Hindenburg and took control when Hindenburg died. Georgia's invasion of S. Ossetia has Bush's fingerprints all over it. Everything he touches turns to s**t. Thankfully, he only has five more months left to wreak more destruction on the world.
Our policy of arming one side or another in dozens of armed conflicts around the globe, and meddling in general, predated Bush. Saddam Hussein, Bin Laden and jihaadism in general were monsters made by us. This time around, we armed the Georgians with our weapons, trained their troops, and bull****ted them into thinking we'd support them. They started shelling civilians in the morning hours when the Olympics opened, so truth in fact, we ENABLED this mess. The U.S. needs to re-evaluate its foreign policy of military interventionism and stop trying to engineer polical results in sovereign nations around the globe.
"When the president ordered to attack Tskhinvali [the capital of South Ossetia], we knew then we were doomed. How come he didn't realize that?" Gotcha Georgy Bushy and Dicky Cheney Putin stuffed one up your asses??? Your crybaby is still crying poor boy !!! Should have thought about all his problems before he went in? Unless ofcourse the Bush Team gave him confidence of their support which never came!!!
Let???s see, a sovereign nation seeks to establish control of over part of its internationally recognized territory which is being held by illegal forces supported by an enemy state. No, it???s not their fault. To blame them is a sad combination of naïveté and arrogance.
According to you, we might conclude the French were the villains in the Revolutionary War for assisting American colonists in an "illegal" revolt against their British rulers. The irony of course is that we support independence movements when it benefits us ( i.e. Kosovo ). I guess Freedom(TM) and self-rule is fine for you and me, but too good for the South Ossetians eh?
bush is really to blame. With his total lack of leadership, we have become a second class Country not even capable of invading and conquering "third" world Countries. What will the village idiot do with a real crisis?A Russian Crisis? Maybe he can send FEMA...
Devaluing everything from our dollar to American values and ethics.
The US can do nothing in the eyes of the world cause we have already done worse.
Problem Georgia had was being a bush ally....and wiping out peacekeepers.
How can you dictate to other Countries to do as I say; not as I do. Hopefully our next generation will
Let's see, Georgia tried to reassert control over part of it's territory which was being controlled by illegal forces supported by an enemy regime. No, this is not their fault. What an absurd, elitist suggestion.
Totally agree with you tikal700. Bush has only wrecked USA prestige overseas and the internal economy. I'm counting the days until he and Co are gone.
John McCain said something stupid. He said "Today, we are all Georgians". Nonsense McCain. We are not all Georgians, especially since it was the Georgians that started this mess by entering South Ossetia, thereby triggering the Russian response. Moreover, even some of the Georgians themseleves think that President Mikheil Saakashvili made a stupid decision to do so. Stop picking fights in the US' name.
A balanced article from our US MSM for a change. Robert Kagan and the neocon cabal will need to get over it. They goaded their Georgian puppet into a criminal attack on the civilian population of South Ossetia - they can spin and lie all they want but Putin has proved them to be the fools.
Now that American has lost its moral authority our standing in such conflicts is irrelevant.
Hitler was never elected chancellor. He was appointed as Hindenburg's vice chancellor and took over when Hindenburg died. The US must be behind Georgia's invasion of S. Ossetia. It has Bush's fingerprints all over it. This is business as usual for the Bush administration. Thankfully, they have only five more months to wreak more destruction on the world.
How come mediocre people and in some cases stupids are becoming countries presidents. If this be the case kings and dinostic rulers will be proud in their graves.thats why the evergreen queen has perpitual smil.allees
This is a great lesson to all shaky puppots. Everyone knows that Saakashvili is an American and a Zionist puppot, he is simply a rotton Potato, that awoke one morning to the Georgian People. This Potato has abused the peoples trust and have spent money on Israeli Weapons to protect Zionist Oil Pipeline interest, at the cost of his peoples interest. This Potato should be sent nude to the stadium and raped by the women of Geordia.
You may compare S.Ossetia to Kosovo, but best comparison for Tskhinvali is WTC on 9/11. Georgia army killed 1600 out of 30000 population in 8 hour bombardment. I didn't question why US bombed Afganistan to the ground after 9/11 when ben Laden killed 3000. Today I don't question Russia. But today I question US. Why we lend support to bloody monster? Saakashvili is democratically elected but so was Hitler.
"It has been awfully scary. When the president ordered to attack Tskhinvali [the capital of South Ossetia], we knew then we were doomed. How come he didn't realize that?"
well, maybe that Saakashvili doesn't work for georgia...
