I am a photographer and think it's terrible that our reputatioin is being ruined by a certain few who feel the need to "doctor" their photos to sell. What ever happened to good, honest photojournalism? Guess it went by the wayside when technology became more important than reality.

I have to agree that there is something innately unnerving about enhancing a live broadcast with "extra" fireworks. How about if our presidential candidates start enhancing their campaign stops with "extra" people? How about if you remove the blown up buildings out of the photos of Baghdad? You know, kind of clean the place up a little bit to show how well the war's going? No, this is not a good idea. Perhaps man really didn't go to the moon?

Who gives a crap about the photo? If you want to know if it's real or not, where's the creature itself?
Why all these lengthy discussions about authenticity of a picture?

  • Posted By: hihecat @ 08/21/2008 8:14:06 PM

Who has set the rule for no Computer graphic in Olympic ceremony? You? Newsweek? It sounds weird to call CG as a "lie", even for firework, who've told you that it's "traditional firework"? Why can't "CG firework" be "firework" too?

Oh yea, plus look at the dogs right paw, leg, hand, whatever you want to call it, "flipping the bird". Give me a break. If anyone made money off this photo PT Barnum's opinion lives on.......How dumb can some people be. Oh yea, the ones that buy the National Enquirer. Wait, there is someone dumber...Ted Thompson, GM of the Green Bay Packers. Almost forgot about him.

    Yeeeehaaaa!

Newsweek has no credibility. I stopped buying the mag after they ran their bogus story of US Soldiers putting the Koran in the toilet. It's one thing to use biased reporting to slam people/parties/policies they don't support, but their fake story cost some Americans their lives!

Knowing that photographs, and also video, can be manipulated to show something that isn't, is the main reason I take the media news with a grain of salt. If I cared to waste the time I could film the people of Austin, Texas and the events that happen here to make it appear as a city of toxic dump or a city where good things are truly happening at any given moment. It all depends on how you look at things.

Its a Sea Turtle, and yes I think that it is possible for it to have somehow come out of its shell....

    • Posted By: TSteel @ 08/21/2008 7:07:59 PM

Sea Turtles have their spine and ribs, among other bones, fused to it's shell. There is no way a sea turtle or any turtle can come out of it's shell in one piece. Look it up on HowStuffWorks.com

    • Posted By: TSteel @ 08/21/2008 7:03:44 PM

How about you do some research before you just post a comment. Sea Turtles spines, ribs and clavicle are fused to the shell. There is no way it can come out of it's shell in one piece. look it up on HowStuffWorks.com

  • Posted By: bscaller @ 08/21/2008 6:38:52 PM

I wanted to know about the monster not the BS about photojournalism.

    • Posted By: obvious_thinker @ 08/21/2008 6:58:26 PM

Then your time would have been better spent on Google, searching "Montaulk Monster" There isn't much to see - just the same image over and over & a few carbon copies of the same (non-) press-release. The fact that its been regurgitated over & over & no new info shows up proves its a hoax & the fact so many can't see the forest for the trees shows how stupid society is. Sometimes I feel like a 60-point IQ is status-quo in humankind.

why do you say fail to everything? you have not said one thing about it except to put a stink on everyone else. you are pathetic!

        • Posted By: obvious_thinker @ 08/21/2008 6:52:47 PM

Perhaps you should actually go back and read my logicl, thought-provoking post. Trying to figure out what it is is pointless, because there was no creature on the beach and the whole two eye-witnesses are either paid or are in on it. The entire report is more fudged and hole-ridden than Roswell reports. At least in Roswell, no one was able to just walk up to it, so its considerably more likely to be real this this. This whole thing is stupider than the "bat-boy" in the Enquirer!

  • Posted By: Palady53 @ 08/21/2008 6:43:27 PM

' Has anyone done a DNA test on the thing to see what it is? No, probably not, because if it's real, the place where it came from wouldn't want people to know the kind off sick testing that they are doing on animals and maybe cloanning. If it's fake, who cares, our government officals lie to us and make things up everyday day, and we are supposed to believe them. What's the difference. It's still a bunch of crap no matter who does it.

the bloat in the body causes the limbs to appear/become shorter. Look at the claws, look at the face. Look at the rear end. It sure looks like a sloth to me.

i thought the sloth idea was a good one. i went online and looked up relations to them and found information on the cuscus. i googled to look at skeletol remains and that is where i made the link. what about you?

Look up "CAPYBARA" and check out the front claws and square snout. Case solved.

Is that all you ever say: "FAIL". You're obviously not thinking, just denouncing. What do you think it is?

    • Posted By: leenie @ 08/21/2008 5:43:39 PM

It can't be a capybara. They are rodents, like a giant guinea pig, and rodents don't have canine teeth. They are herbivorous and have two long front teeth. And I don't think it took a boat from the rain forests of South American to get to Montauk, Long Island.

  • Posted By: Palady53 @ 08/21/2008 6:36:08 PM

If it is fake, so what, the government officals make stuff up all the time and get away with it. If it is real, we'll never know because of where it came from. The place wouldn't want people to suspect them of clonning several animal dna and went to far on this one.

This is easy. It's a Pit Bull without it's tail croped. The damage is from being in the water. Time, fish, and crabs. Bryan

sensationalism always has been what fuels the media, truth is people and relationships , not how others see you or the opinions of others. In the end the only thing that will be true will be what was stored in heaven, when it all burns away and fades something will remain. Not these mirages and alternate third dimensions.

It's a lie. Lies make news and headlines. Dead dog on a beach gathers little attention. When science says it exists, then it's time to pay attention. Until then it's just somebody with a snow shovel. Bigfoot - Lochness when you call a Doctor instead of the media, you found something worthwile.
