As a TV veiwer, I appreciated the opening ceremonies enhancement. So what if China enhances their opening ceremonies with a few digital images? I'm an educated adult, so I don't just automatically believe what the television is telling me, I'm just trying to be entertained.

Don't we have something called DNA testing these days? If the so called monster did wash up on shore it would be a easy thing to test it's origin...

Hopefully the technology to distinguish true photographs from fake will exceed the technology & skill for producing fake photography. But if that isn't possible, then we may have to rely on the same thing as in the case of traditional news copy reporting: Distinguishing competent & honest reporters from bad ones, and distinguishing reliable newspapers & news magazines from bad. For example, why am I more inclined to believe something I read in Newsweek than in a tabloid? Because of the news sources involved. BUT, this may mean that reliable news magazines and papers will need to screen ALL of their photographers as carefully as when they hire reporters. (Perhaps freelance photographers will become a thing of the past for reliable news sources; ALL photographers whose photos are used may have to be vetted, or a disclaimer used in other cases, such as the caption, "The photo above was not taken by a Newsweek staff photographer, but was purchased from a freelance photographer."

Well it would SURE help a lot of the MSM wouldn't run stories about ****ing BIGFOOT, invisibility cloaks, Britney Spears, or show video of Georgian destruction in Ossetia and then claim it was Russian destruction in Georgia. Yes its true, the average reader has an 8th grade level of reading comprehension. This is what I was taught in journalism, but you guys GOTTA ditch the biased, foregone political conclusions and tabloid journalism if you want respect.

There's a great line in a Tom Clancy book. A reporter is trying to get information from a woman who replys to the reporter" Why should I trust you, your a reporter". Thats my view of most reporters as well as photo journalists. There is no difference to editing a photo or ,as NBC news did, editing the Presidents comments, or CNN editing out portions of an interview with a wrestler where he denies using steroids. Those are the obvious examples. Makes you wonder how much is half truths, edited replies, slanted questioning. Charles Foster Kane would be proud of todays reporters.

You say that NBC presented the fireworks footprint sequence at the Olympic opening ceremony as live. Am I the only person who specifically heard Bob Costas and Matt Lauer specifically state in the opening ceremony telecast that the fireworks footprint sequence was CGI? I know I'm not because it was mentioned in an MSNBC.com story. For whatever reason I can't post a link here, but please go to MSNBC.com and search for the story about the fireworks sequence. It backs up what I'm saying.

Where have you morons been? Journalism has lost its credibility!!! My sons were taught in grade school to never cite a news source to support a fact (that was over 10 years ago).
