In this war, Russian troops have killed about 100 Georgians but Georgian troops killed more than 1600
civilians in these few days! If Russian troops are cruel, then Georgian troops are 16 times worse!

It's funny how no one can verify the Russian claims of ethnic cleansing (1500-2000 dead civilians), yet there's ample evidence of the Russians using cluster bombs and actively targeting, burning down & looting civilian structures and homes. I'm glad you support Russia b/c it's important to be patriotic, but sometimes you have to accept the fact that what your government is doing is wrong.
I think that what the US did in Iraq was 100x worse than the Russian invasion of Georgia b/c George Bush lied about WMD's in order to facilitate his desire to invade the country...but this really isn't any different as the Russians have invaded a country under false pretenses. Both countries actions disgust me as a civilized human being...
I think we should wait for some international verification of ethnic cleansing. You need some time even to simply count from 1 to 1500, so it is much harder to verify 1500 cases (I'm not sure Bush and Rice have really verified 100 Georgian cases). Russia is not against the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner visited Ossetia in these days and called the Georgian hostilities in South Ossetia "massacres":

Georgia has got nothing to celebrate. Its president Saakashvili is a self-made US stooge and out of his mind, self-centred and no inclination what so ever to do something good for the people of Georgia. Saakhvili should lead Georgia to live in peace with all its neighbours, to promote trade and all things good for the entire region instead Saakashvili thought he could be an American hero when he agreed to start the military action based on whatever slight suggestions made by the US. The US always being deceitful, liars and practicing double standards have now left Saakshvili on his own. Saakashvili should hang himself.
Russia should learn to manipulate the media like the US. They must learn that US expantion is fought both by weapons and media. Even in such a conflict it is very ridiculous to see what the media is focusing on...
Wars,Lies,Smears,Half truth,Dumb Democracy beliefs becoming an American's Political Culture that penetrates into American's society minds.White Lies have becoming as "Business as Usual "in Washington.Leaders with "Straight Face" can tell Americans Lies without any feels of self Guilty Conscience.
Every country Russia has pulled out their armies from has been replaced by American troops. Does US promote democracy? Pouring millions of dollars to influence the elections in Ukraine and Georgia is not democracy, it is a modern coup. Its not promoting democracies, it is exploiting democracies.
To create satelite states which fight Russian interest on all areas is provocing enough, but when 2000 Russian civilians are slaghtered and what is Russia to do and what should they expect when the US rocket shield is implemented?
Portraying Georgia as a "beautiful democracy" is even more ridiculous, the president received 97% of all votes and america now controls the country.
Who is more likely to break international law and exploit democracy? When Russia intervened they pulled out, not like "American interventions" in Serbia, Afghanistan and Iraq where the presence is almost permanent.
The Russians stayed in Eastern Europe by force, but you like the Americans must learn to understand that the cold war is over and the soviet union is gone. The Soviet thought of needing a "buffer zone" by force is just proving to be correct as US is breaking every agreement they made with Russia not to expand further east. Who is breaking international law on daily basis, setting up illegal prison camps in Guatanamo, attacking sovereign states, implementing regime changes, exploiting other nations free media and democracies?
Well Said,Glenno
.
Its not too early to celebrate. US has already depolyed war planes and war ships. Im guessing that main objective is to gain control over Georgia again as an obedient puppet state, armed to the teeth by Pentagon as it was before Russia intervened. The actuall sympathy for the 175 dead Georgians is as little as the 2000 Russian civilians who got slaughtered by american weapons. Russia is also aware that this is not an isolated incident and sees what the US is doing in Ukraine, Eastern Europe, Uzbekistan, Azerbijan, Kyrigistan etc. How will they have to respond to the rocket shield?
When China responded to the US rocket shield they shot down one of their own satelites to show that they can fight the arms race that the US is bringing to space. Interestingly enough, the media covered this as Chinese aggression.... to shot down their own satelite to send a signal to the US that America does not neccessarily have first strike capabilties
EXCUSE ME!
"US has already depolyed war planes and war ships. I???m guessing that main objective is to gain control over Georgia again as an obedient puppet state"
And Russia is just supplying Ossetia (& Abkhazia) with humanitarian aid. Is that what the 9,000 Russian 'Peacekeepers' are doing in Abkhazia? How about the 3,000 'Peacekeepers' and 5 MRB (Motorized Rifle Battalions) in Ossetia?
"...armed to the teeth by Pentagon as it was before Russia intervened."
Get Real Gleno. The conflict was T-80s against T-80s (tanks), BT-70/80 against BT 70/80 (Wheeled Armor Personnel Carriers), and BMPs against BMPs (tracked Armor personnel carriers). In plain simple terms, it was/is Russian equipment against Russian equipment. Now, do you really think the US supplied Georgia with Russian equipment?
"The actuall sympathy for the 175 dead Georgians is as little as the 2000 Russian civilians who got slaughtered by american weapons."
Again, not US weapons but RUSSIAN WEAPONS!! There is verified reports/intelligence of Russians not honoring the cease fire, occupying the town of Gori, Bombing civilians but NO verified reports of 2000 NON-native Russians being killed. Non- native, in the fact that when Ossetia revolted against Georgia in 1991 (after the USSR break up & when Georgia didn't have a military) with considerable Russian support, the Russian government issued Russian passports to Georgia citizens. This is called history, not propaganda.
"Russia is also aware that this is not an isolated incident and sees what the US is doing in Ukraine, Eastern Europe, Uzbekistan, Azerbijan, Kyrigistan etc."
These countries are just that...internationally recognized independent world states. Ossetia (& Abkhazia) are not.
Hmmm...What about Russian aggression in (1939) Poland (in a pact with Hitler), all three Baltic States in 1930/40, Russian puppets governments in Romania, Checkoslovokia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland, crushing democratic uprisings in 1956 (Hungary) and 1968 (Checkoslovokia)?

This war appears to me to have been precipitated by the "Principals' Committee," a group of policy experts associated with the Clinton administration who now run the foreign policy show in Washington. They seem to believe that the U.S. must confront both Russia and China, even militarily, in order to maintain America's position in the world. In my view, this is suicidal.
and conviction that the U.S. must confront both Russia and Chin
great point! thank you!
Does any of these Georgians think for a moment that it is their handsome charismatic president who started all these miseries they now undergo with his misjudged midnight adventure? Or are all of them with the universal mother syndrome that ones son can do no wrong? Do any of them think for a moment that many a South Ossetians had died and many ran away when their own soldiers destroyed their town the root cause of all these their own president's miscalculation.
Or all these a charade to achieve something much bigger? To pose as an innocent victim of a great bully and get the world's sympathy and the support of the West to get the Russian peacekeepers from Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Also have a permanent US and NATO military presence in Georgia? US and Wesst won't have much of a problem with their conscience to give any excuse under the garb of protecting the democracy and peg their tents in Georgia.
Saakashvili have cleverly manipulated the Americans into his war and the West continues to play to his tune with him conducting the orchestra. South Ossetia is a tinderbox, yet he went in and lit the fire. When it got too hot, he starts to loudly say the West are not helping him. Even to the point of escalting the issue by claiming that the Americans will "takeover the seaports and airports" in Georgia; knowing full well that wasn't the case, and would only inflame the situation with the Russians.
I have to give this Saaskashvilli guy some credit. He got the West to dance like monkeys with him grinding the organ.

The ethnic tension between Russia and Georgia does not appear overnight, nor would it vanish in a day. The precarious cease-fire may be broken any time. Thus it would be too premature if not over-optimistic to launch cerebration of any kind.
That said, both countries should exercise utmost restrain in repeating the military confrontation, for this definitely would not bode well for long term peace in the region. Europe can least afford to witness more armed conflicts, let alone the world. There are already more than enough wars going on.
The venue for peaceful negotiation must continue to open. There should be more exchange of views or compromise in a cordial atmosphere, where mutual respect would be the main prerequisite.
Please remember: Sincere talk will never be lethal, but blind shooting is.

To continue my comment: two of the key members of the "Principals' Committee" are Ambassador Richard Holbrooke and Zbigniew Brzezinski. This group is motivated by Brzezinski's hatred of Russia and his belief that Russia must be carved up into four seperate states, balkanized, in order to destroy its international power. These people are even more dangerous than the neocons!
Republicans and John McCain are demanding that Barack speak out more forcefully on Georgia to show the strength of his qualifications in foreign policy and national security and show himself ready to be Commander-in-Chief. I say that Barack should repeat what he said when he was in Germany recently. We have only one President at a time. John McCain must have forgotten that he is not the President; and his contrariness in speaking out about the conflict and about his dislike for the Russian government is not helpful. The candidates should be mindful of what they say so that they do not make it more difficult for President Bush to garner a united world opinion and have it speak with mutual clarity so as to obtain a proper resolution to the conflict. He cannot do this if the conflict becomes a political pawn for the candidates in order for them to show whose smarter or more hawkish or more ready to lead than the other.
This would be the wrong thing to do because it will spark a huge war not only between georgia and russia but could spark a war between U.S.A and Russia and that would be devestating. We need to resolve this peacefully and not get totally involved in this conflict.McCain and his outdated ideas will get us all killed. No thanks
What Russia wants at this point?
Russia wants to put criminal charges against Mr. Saakashvili and his sponsors/supporters (the US government) for over 1600 deaths of innocent women and children killed overnight in Ossetia last week and for over 30000 refuges escaping from the region to Russia. They have plenty of evidence for it already.
US government is digging a hole for themselves blindly supporting Mr. Saakashvili who openly lies to everyone left and right in fear of his own prospects.
How American values will stand in the background of US government having direct connection to 1600 civilian deaths overnight and 30000 of wounded and misplaced -- that is what in question at this point.
This is another Iraq-like blunter for the U.S., and the U.S. must take all the blame. The 1000 U.S. advisers
that were training Georgia's army raised Saakashvili's bravado to the point where he thought he could challenge the Russian bear with an all over military assault on Tskhinvali, and if the Russian dared to respond, the U.S. and European armies would rush into Georgia to chase the Russian out. And even now, some pro-American media [Times Online] reports that U. S. military transport planes are unloading military supplies to Georgia as a show of force, implying that the U.S. military might would eventually force the Russian to put tail in their hind legs and run out of Georgia. That creates more confusion among Georgians in the chaotic situation Saakashvili brought upon them, and shows the naive propaganda of the Western press to offer Georgians false hopes as a substitute of any military help in a hopeless situation.
The Russians had to swallow their pride when the U.S. orchestrated Kosovo's independence, and Russia could not stop it. Now the Russian have a de facto independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, and
the U.S. cannot stop it. And their luck-luster lackey, Saakashvili, is on track to meet the faith of another U.S.
lackey, Pervez Musharraf. Both went out of their way to served the U.S. wishes, but they found out their actions were detrimental to their countries national interests - with Saakashvili in a disastrous way.
The Russian feel confident now to resolve threats to their national interests militarily. And, for sure, their
show of force and resolve in Georgia will have reverberations on the U.S. plan to install an anti-Russian
missile defense system in Eastern Europe, as well as on admitting Ukraine into NATO. And if we decide
to push Russian too far, we may soon see the Afghan insurgents sporting anti-tank and Sam -6 anti-aircraft
missiles. We did that against the Soviet invasion in Afghanistan, and they can do that too and make Afghanistan a hell for us in reverse. And the Russian foreign minister, Mr. Lavrov, made it clear to the U.S:
"It is Saakashvili or Us." Can we afford to place our national interests aside to support a clowning buffoon
who just decided to make war and become a hero in his country with our military backing? Nikos Retsos,

How can US and NATO first recognise and create so call tiny small banana state mono-ethnic state with no future, economy based on the nationalism and hate. Noone wants to live in ONE NATION ONE RELIGION STATE. US and NAto is standing behind the war in former yugoslavia and is most resposible for the break up as it supported nationalism on all sides. Same applies to other parts of the world. What is in this tiny nation head are they crazy to want to be independent when they don't have human rights, economy territory, resources infrastructure, stability only nationalism and nazi government who want to separate.
NATO AND US SHOULD REDRAW RECOGNITION OF ALL NAZI ONE NATION STATES like Kosovo, Tibet, Macedonia Bosnia as f.e Bosnian Muslims are nothing else then Serbs and Croats who have accepted islam after expansion of otomon empire, There is only Macedonia greek province and macedonian bulgarians. There is a lot of history that US needs to learn. When US and NATO destroyed Yugoslavia Iraq and Aphganstan it s OK when Russia does the same it is invasion.
we aren t against US on the contrary we love US but as the MULTINATIONAL COUNTRY EU and NATO SHOULD AND MUST NOT RECOGNISE SEPARATISM AND NATIONALISM OF SMALL TINY BANANA REPUBLICS WITH NO FUTURE.
First of all it was the Iraqi government who sentenced Hussein to death. Secondly, the west wasn't condemning Russia protecting its people or helping South Ossetia, it was Russia's defiance of the cease-fire. Also Russia entered Georgia with tanks and troops in the direction of Georgia's capitol. It's not just the West, the majority of the Baltic nations side with Georgia.
I only need to correct one part of your comment kdsandeep. It was the Iraqi people who tried and gave Saddam Hussein the death penalty. Supporting South Ossetia wasn't what caused the ire of the west, it was the fact that Russian troops with tanks have crossed far into Georgia towards its Capitol. Many of the Baltic countries are also condemning Russia's actions.
