The Republican playbook has not changed much because it still works. You are correct to point out that the Democrats have never really learned how to fight dirty, and as a result have lost Presidential election after election. Where is the nastiness? Until the Democrats realize the average voter responds best to lies, distortion and misinformation ; they will continue to lose. Obama should be screaming about McCain's instability , about his temper, and about his senility. Instead he takes the high road and thinks voters will reward him for it. He is wrong and he is going to lose unless he attacks McCain as the half-wit, military meathead itching to get his finger on the trigger. Americans like their politicians mean and tough and ready to pick a fight. Obama better get some testosterone injections before it is too late.

When McCain ran against Bush, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and a large number of the Republican Party was vicious in their character assassination of McCain, calling him, ???damaged goods.??? They successfully scared enough people in their party into thinking maybe five years as a POW is too much for any human being to endure and that the office of the President required complete mental stability. Therefore, Bush would be a much better choice for the job.
After eight grueling years with their choice of a president, these same talking heads are expecting the majority of the American populous to be afraid one more time. This time they are asking us to be afraid of man who is brilliant and inspiring. Furthermore, they are asking us to trust them again and choose the man they used as a piñata eight years ago. This time their dishonesty is glaring. This time their tap-dancing is way out of step. They???re unable to use any compelling arguments so their only strategy is to nit-pick and continually bend the truth. The Republicans care so much about a fetus and so little about a soldier being sacrificed in an unjust war. After serving 2-3 tours of duty the current administration is asking our soldiers to go to Afghanistan: where they should have been in the first place. That is not supporting our troops. That is using them like pawns in a chess game, making them completely expendable. We would have had Osama Bin Laden a long time ago, if, we had kept our priorities where they should have been. Go ahead hammer away at the same tired Roe V Wade type issues. Have you ever noticed that the people who hate abortion tend to love the Death Penalty? They care so much about the unborn fetus and so little about the child once it???s born. Only those who have adopted children have earned the right to get passionate about the issue. So go ahead force the fetus to live so you can use it as cannon fodder later on.

Someone posted that whether Obama is a Christian or not is between Obama -- or Soetoro? -- and the Lord God.

    That's true.

But the Bible also says that a Christian will be known by the "fruit" he produces. To me, it looks like the fruit that hangs from Obama's tree are lies and the dead bodies fo the aborted babies that come from his championing infanticide.

That, plus the fact that he's on record saying there are many paths to God the Father--something which any Chrisitan knows is not what Jesus said--reveal Obama to be a CINO--that is, Christian in name only.

BTW: That poster's claim that Obama's detractors--Republicans, I think the poster said--have God complexes is the kind of simplistic poppycock that is offered as a distraction from the obvious things that Obama supports or says that are anti-life and non-Christian.

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 08/17/2008 5:22:45 PM

The problem with some self-proclaimed Christians is they don't really spend much time looking at the fruit. Instead they wait for big money corrupt people to describe things not as they are, but in some corrupt way that both meets their agenda and prevents you from having to think compassionately and objectively..

It is difficult for me to hear another Christian blasting Obama for things they read in some right wing smear job. The only authority on Obama is Obama. You should spend more time looking at Obama than your corrupt Republican messangers.

When the Bible talks about knowing another Christian by the fruit they bare, you are supposed to look at the garbage that those people are spewing and say, "Hey... that is pretty rotten." You aren't supposed to look the other way.
You are supposed to look and see that in our own country, people are losing their jobs because they're all being shipped overseas.
You are supposed to look and see that 4000 Americans have given their lives in a war that was fought for oil profits.
You are supposed to look and see that the Republican party is pushing policies that essentially sell off America bit by;bit to foreign countries, not that there is anything wrong with people in other countries.
You are supposed to look and see that 1% of the people are hording 50% of the wealth, while some people are lucky just to be able to find a meal for the day.
You are supposed to look and see that a campaign based on lies is rotten fruit.

Your excuses about Obama's stance on abortion, are rediculous since you really don't know his stance on abortion, or you don't care for anyone else to know it.

I am pro-life in a sense. I don't believe in abortion as a form of birth control. I don't believe in late term abortions.
But I also know that nothing will happen to stop abortions as long as Republicans are in office. They use this issue to divide honest Americans against each other. At the same time they will not push policies to prevent unwanted pregnancies, nor deal with them. They push policies that encourage education for the wealthy, and discourage good education for the poor.

But I am also pro-choice in a sense that I believe that there are some circumstances where the chances of survival of the baby or the mother conflict with each other. In those circumstances, only the mother can make the choices about her baby after prayerful consideration. I do not believe there is any excuse for taking this decision away from the mother and God.

Finally how hypocritical is it that somebody would claim to be pro-life, but support a party that will not allow universal healthcare? How hypocritical is it that somebody would claim to be pro-life, but support people that use war as energy policy?

This is information available to anyone using the internet. There is more where this came from. More information about Obama, about his actions, words, behavior, decisions, history, than he can try to ignore. He does not need "swiftboaters" to define him; he has defined himself. Voters are not stupid: NOT going to decide based upon what they hear repeatedly, they believe but what they summarize based upon what they take in themselves, from many sources.

I see other PUMAS prowling; we are everywhere.

I see other PUMAS are prowling.

"Voters believe what they hear repeatedly, and there's a cautionary tale in McGovern's experience all these many years later." Wrong, now voters believe what they see or what they want to hear. "Voters " are not stupid, we can sort out what is bs and what is truth or as much as we can decifer what the truth is. The facts or lack of them that have come to light are what voters will decide based upon. Information not deemed relevant by the televised or printed media is available to internet users, such as: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIJVLxhmbXw. New politics ,smolotics.

Obama has been defining himself by his actions; he doesn't need "swiftboat" actions to do it.

Very interesting list. My questions would apply to both candidates, rather then spewing generalizations. Lets start with raise taxes. Lets see, how you as a voter would like to see the deficit go away, or do you think that we can have our economy be in a deficit forever? What are you willing to give up so that taxes are not raised. Sure, everyone loves little to no taxes, however, who is going to pay for the services that we think are entitlements?
Will expand government, well lets see, if either candidate gets their way, there is going to be expansion in government. How, with the new energy proposals and health proposals. Can you tell me with the proposals that are being put on the table by both candidates, how government is not going to be expanded?
Will punish success, that can happen with either McCain or Obama. What is your definition of success? My definition is to wake up everyday and have my health.
Weaken national security, why would either person weaken national security. What is your proof that either one could not do damage?
I would like to see if your a parrot from Fox news, or if you have your own mind to answer just a few simple questions. I can spew a list like yours without even thinking about who I am writing, but words alone are just words. Lets see some backup.

Remember when McCain used to give logical responses to questions? 2000 he was a pretty insightful and lucid guy. For that matter, Bush during his Texas election cycle days was relatively lucid as well. What the hell does the GOP do to these guys during the general election cycles, lobotomy or zanax? I love how the consensus view is that McCain did better than expected because expectations were so low; my concern is, this is for the office of the president, how the hell can expectations be that low for a man running for that office? I love the fact that lots of republicans enjoy voting for men they seem to be smarter than, but come on guys, get a grip.

    • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 08/17/2008 2:17:10 PM

You probably did not see anything that I posted a couple months ago. So, I will give you my position which runs parallel, without the drug use, LOL ;-)

McCain is not the same person as he was in 2000. McCain is eight years older. He is going to be 72, and things in the brain are not quite as sharp/lucid as they are in the 60's, or when your in your 50's, etc. There are subtle signs that may indicate a problem. Recall may not be as great, forgetfullness, just to name a couple of the myriad of subtle things that can go wrong. Do we know if he has night sweats, or nightmares concerning his imprisonment? Did he ever have therapy for post traumatic syndrome? I can bore you with enough medical stuff and jargon to put you asleep and the rest of the populace asleep. ;-)

        marksgershenson,
If you had bothered to watch the forum last night...McCain ran circles around Obama and 8 commentators pretty much agreed that McCain did better than Obama. To the question of evil, Sen. Obama was asked to pick one of 4 choices to discuss and he talked about confronting evil, not one of the 4 choices. Guess Obama had a junior moment. See for yourself tonight CNN will re-air the forum at 8pm.

        • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 08/17/2008 4:15:53 PM

I did not watch the debate to hear the same things over and over again. I have today and last night to recouperate and be ready for work tomorrow. I heard what Bush said about evil too. Politics and politicians as usual and that is what both McCain and Obama state. I sometimes wish I can blow steam out both sides of my mouth too.

I am just coming back from vacation, and you will find that the people who post are polarized, and there is no happy middle ground. I think what you see here is a microcosim of the real world. Eight years of damage, and things are worst now then ever. People are scared. And it is reflecting in postings to the point of ridiculous postings. It almost sounds like in the 50's and McCarthy and the boogie person is coming. Obama a "muslim" McCain an "oldman", blah blah blah, cry me a river for both sides.

People who walk the middle ground can see the extremes. Try to make a rational argument with someone who has all this emotional pent up energy about either candidate; you might as well throw in the towel. I threw in too many towels before I went on vacation six weeks ago, so I have decided to take a more pragmatic approach to postings.

Fear of the unknown, scared people are posting here because this country is heading the wrong way. Who can lead us out our issues makes people post the way they post. Are we as a people going to be heard, or not be heard, regardless of who wins?. I can go on and on, but time is too precious to waste. I have seen paragraphs of arguments that could be made in one sentence, etc. I don't want to sound patronizing ;-)

I suppose it's more of a condemnation of America's attention span, most of these people who are so behind McCain probably forget 2000, or the begining of this campaign cycle, back when McCain was polling at 4%; that was before all of the rest of the field got exposed and self destructed, and now look whose there hero. Oh well, I don't figure it'll matter much, the election wil be decided within 4 or 5%, and i just can't see McCain getting over all the hurdles he has in front of him.

    • Posted By: thehappyamerican @ 08/17/2008 3:27:35 PM

Because we got to keep expectations low for BOTH candidates! These are THE CHOSEN ONES of only one industry here in the USA! The News media!
The RNC did not have time to consider all it's candidates before the Liberal news media blew out the other candidates.
The DNC is NOT united in Obama as the News Industry blew Hillary out and gone!
We're all stuck with this and the News Industry is losing it's credibility for departing from REPORTING and graduating it's self to ACTIVISTS! (All Knowing Activists, you see?).
We will get threw this challenge like Americans always do! But do not expect to be hearing the Americans Suck First propaganda being piped threw the Oval Office and out to the public as in the days of Bill Clinton. (which was amplified by the news elites.).

Don't look now Dems, but Gallop poll shows McCain and Obama tied. 45%-45%
And Obama led by 6 points in July. Oh oh.... Remember this history also: Kerry led Bush by 7 in July and lost. As well as Dukakis, who led Bush-1 by 10 points in July...and lost.

McCain is the better man by a long shot and he is SO much more qualified than this used car salesman liberals are trying to scam American with. Listen to the idiots who try to portray Obama as some sort of American hero. Absolutely laughable when you compare him to McCain.

Remember, this is the same nation that re-elected an unpopular George W. Bush in 2004....during....an unpopular war. - Translation? McCain will win in November.

Im not sure which is a bigger joke, your opinion or your candidate.

    • Posted By: mrzoid @ 08/17/2008 2:06:47 PM

What makes McCain a "hero"? He was a POW, did he escape capture and save numerous other captives? Im not clear as to how being a POW makes you a hero, hell, there are alot of POW's at every shelter around the country, should we eect them because they're so qualified? How is McCain more experienced? Does he have any kind of executive leadership experience?; state, military, or private sector? Tell me how genius, that John McCain is superior. Is it because he gives one sentence answers to srious questions, like "destroy it"? Because Bush did the same thing, look where we are now. Oh, nd McCain's voting record is in line with Bush 95%of the time. Yep, he's the original maverick.

But I wil say it one more time, polls are like the color of my wife's hair. As soon as the gray comes back, time to change the color back to brown. So Rasmussen says there hasn't been any changes in three weeks. When I asked my poodle who she thought was the best, she licked my face in agreement to my prior comments. Just vote! ;-) LOL

The world is watching us and expecting us to behave but instead we have the presumptive nominee of the Democratic party along with the woman he married, who is mother to his children, being dragged through the mud, lied about, called every name in the book, accused of everything imaginable so far except for murder and I am sure that's next on the evil bloggers' agenda. Remember this, there is a god and he does rule and he will punish the people making up these lies when the time comes. The liars will get their punishment and Sen. Obama gets to be president.

He even went as far to say it would be #1 Bestseller, which it is in the NY Times list. He was on the whole John Edwards affair before I even heard hide nor hair of it and sure enough , like HR said, a big expose burst to the forefront. If this birthcertificate fiasco is true, he does need to present an original document. . . not mocked up versions. Guess time will tell.

I don't agree with HR on a lot but I have to agree that he said it and it came to pass.....

consistently CORRECT is what I am...and I'm not a weak dick like you....you have emotionally hitched your wagon to....a crook and a fraud. Now you just have to deal with it.

Cute HR and consistent with your (lack of) class which is demonstrated by your name calling and concentration on non-issues and non-truths.

Are you still around jumping on this crap? You are one really biased individual, without any class.

Eleanor Clift is engaged in her own smear campaign in this article. To smear the Republicans she goes all the way back to the Nixon McGovern match up. Then she brings up Corsi's book like he's a Republican agent, without telling you that Corsi's one of those nuts that thinks 9/11 was an inside job by Bush. He may be a nut....but his insanity isn't just aimed at Obama. And if Obama is going to combat smears how about the racial smears Hillary, Bill, and Geraldine Ferraro were platered with during the Primary. Bill Clinton is still obviously furious at that Smear from the Obama camp. And what about Obama's statements playing the race card....twice "They will try to scare you...because I have a funny sounding name, and don't look like the President's on the $1 & $5 bills"............As for the Republicans.......is Obama the most inexperienced Presidential candidate in history or not? Did Obama sit in Rev Wright's church for 20 year and call him his mentor and spiritual guide, or not? Did Obama out is Grandmother as a racist and typical white person, or not? Did Obama say working people are "bitter, gun toting, bible thumping, bigots", or not? Eleanor Clift knows all of this.....she's just setting the stage for the sleaze the Obama campaign & his worshipers in the press are about to unleash at McCain. Get ready....the smears and sleaze from Obama are about to really get going!!!!!

Has anyone noticed that all of these republican pundits - Corsi

    • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 08/17/2008 1:31:50 PM

      Oops, let's try this again:

Has anyone noticed that all of these republicans - Corsi, Rove, Limbaugh, Cheney - all sort of look alike? A little overwieght, pasty-faced, thinning hair. Just like all the people Hitler surrounded himself with.

Maybe it is just a coincidence, but then again, maybe its not.

      • Posted By: thehappyamerican @ 08/17/2008 3:40:36 PM

Not coincedenc at all. Europeans look a lot alike. Quick! get a photo of each liberal Democrat in the Congress. And if that's not scarry enough, read things they write and say! Hear the sound of echoing goose-steppers and their banner of Americans Suck first! The left and the right only disagree on the role a free market plays in society. They agree the citizens rights are garbage!

My friends, My friends, My friends; you have to be kidding me with this guy. If you watched this forum, and you can take John McCain seriously as a candidate, you are insane. I accept voting for the republican no matter what if thats your choice. I can accept voting for whoever holds your view of abortion or 2nd amendment rights closer. I can't accept the notion that some people listened to this guy give these rambling human intrest stories for responses to serious questions about what is facing our nation, and actually thinking that he is a viable option for the Presidency of the USA. The man is nothing more than a hollow casing that is filled with all of the failed taglines of the past eight years, riding off his POW status and the name of Ronald Reagan. God help anyone who hasn't made up their minds in this election.

Follow Osama Bin Laden to the gates of hell to bring him to justice? Kiss my ass John McCain, you aren't going into Pakistan you lying P.O.S., so quit stealing Bush's hollow rhetoric.

And of course the last 8 years under Bush have been such a picnic. Get a clue.

Zig... Is life that terrible for you these past eight years? It sounds like you're miserable... Are you down on your luck or maybe out on the street? If you are, I can see why you're so upset.

Sorry, I had to get this in before I hit the beach with my babe....

              • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 08/17/2008 12:42:29 PM

Actually, my life is great - I am fortunate enough that my life is pretty insolated from the impact of politics. But I worry about so many other people in this country. We are rapidly becoming a divided society between the have's and the have not's. While I happen to be in the formed category, I worry about those in the latter. I am actually quite wealthy and have greatly benefited from the Bush tax cuts, but unlike so many others who are similary situated, money is not that important to me, it is not the yard stick I use to measure my own self-worth.

I would gladly pay higher taxes to help out those less fortunate than me. The fact that Obama will undoubtably take away some of those tax cuts doesn't bother me one bit. I contribute heavily to a wide range of charities, as well as serve on a number of their boards. We do what we can, but so much more is needed.

I realize there are many good people who belong to the republican party, but I believe Bush, his administration, and the republican leadership represent the very worst of the party. They represent greed, selfishness, and a complete lack of compassion for those in this country who are hurting very badly right now. Sure, they say the right things in public, but behind closed doors, they drink their scotch and snicker at the gullibility of the average american.

McCain use to be a decent enough fellow, but he has sold out for his chance to grab the brass ring. If he is elected president, it will be four more years just like the last eight. While I will surive it just fine, I worry about all the other people in this country who can't.

I did not come from wealth but have worked really hard for what I have. I do help those that have not had whatever "advantages" I have had in my life but it comes down to this....if you think the government can help people with higher taxes and it's programs you are out of touch with reality. Government creates bureaucracies that get very little resources to the people that need them. If you listened to the forum last nicht or acre to see the encore tonight at 8pm on CNN you will hear both Senators say that faith based agencies do a far better job than government. I agree and that is why I donate my time and money at the grass roots level and would rather do that than give it to the government to waste.

Im at a loss as to how i'm a sore loser here..... oh wait, thats right, you scored this as a win for McCain with your unbiased eye for detail right? Good luck with Frankenstein as your candidate sir.

What you claim the mantle of unbiased opinions? GIve me a break...you'd score this a win for Barry even if he got on stage farted did a line of blow and threw shat all over the audience.

It would be an honest, unscripted response. I'll give you that Obama should have given short tagline responses in order to appeal to your crowd. "From Conception", "Destroy It!", and "Yes, Yes, No, and Get Better Teachers." seems to really get you guys cheering.

Yucch! Regurgitations of all Republicans-are attackers and all-attacks-come-from-a-Republican conspiracy. No one is behind Corsi anymore. Tone down the anti-Republican Meme stream and try to write something relevant in this week of much more significant events. Airhead!

Personally I???m tired of all of this posting, especially considering how extremely polarized and overly emotional the comments are. Then when you consider all of the garbage that is presented, in particular the far out and irrational accusations against Obama; I mean it seems as if there are websites feeding Republican posters all of these ridiculous criticisms and then they are posted without conscience or hesitation. I don???t understand how those things just don???t turn everyone off and alienate rather than attract as they are not only just BS but also they have nothing to do with the issues. You even have several posters who almost exclusively post garbage and repeat it over and over and then sign off with stupid statements like NOBAMA or NOMcStupid; if that is all they have to offer you would think people, like I have, would just get sick of them. I know some will be defensive over this and attack what I???ve said and try to rationalize the value of the referenced postings but I don???t think anyone can say that those postings are open and objective or that they aren???t totally biased and even ignorant. The truth is that both candidates, like everyone else, have faults and areas that can be aggressively criticized but to focus on the ridiculous and to demand perfection from one and not the other is simply without honesty or any real concern for whoever would do the best job. I???ve always looked for and hoped for comments and sincere, even spirited, exchange that would be honest, mutually considerate and focused on the issues, without that, there just seems no value in the exercise.

I am just coming back from vacation, and you will find that the people who post are polarized, and there is no happy middle ground. I think what you see here is a microcosim of the real world. Eight years of damage, and things are worst now then ever. People are scared. And it is relecting in postings to the point of ridiculous postings.

I totally agree with your posting.

Eleanor Clift is trying to swiftboat Jerome Corsi. Fortunately Jerome Corsi is not George McGovern and will put Eleanor Clift in her place.

Encore of last night's forum will air at 8pm on CNN tonight.
Well worth the time to hear the candidates describe their positions in their own words.

The book Obama Nation came out, Obama had to take a vacation! You are right he will fall apart soon!
