"Obama has been measured but perhaps reticent"

By reticent do you mean: "given to keeping one's activities hidden from public observation or knowledge." That is Webster???s first definition of the word. That perfectly describes what Obama has been doing. He either doesn???t want us to know or doesn???t know himself.

IT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REALISTS AND IDEALISTS. IDEALISTS SEE THINGS AS THEY WOULD LIKE THEM TO BE,AND REALISTS SEE THEM AS THEY
ARE. YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THIS BECAUSE YOU CAN'T. NOT TO WORRY,
YOU LIVE UNDER THE SAME UMBRELLA.

I guess it would depend on if the president were on ANOTHER vacation during the crisis or if he were actually a working president.

When McCain ran against Bush, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and a large number of the Republican Party was vicious in their character assassination of McCain, calling him, ???damaged goods.??? They successfully scared enough people in their party into thinking maybe five years as a POW is too much for any human being to endure and that the office of the President required complete mental stability. Therefore, Bush would be a much better choice for the job.
After eight grueling years with their choice of a president, these same talking heads are expecting the majority of the American populous to be afraid one more time. This time they are asking us to be afraid of man who is brilliant and inspiring. Furthermore, they are asking us to trust them again and choose the man they used as a piñata eight years ago. This time their dishonesty is glaring. This time their tap-dancing is way out of step. They???re unable to use any compelling arguments so their only strategy is to nit-pick and continually bend the truth. The Republicans care so much about a fetus and so little about a soldier being sacrificed in an unjust war. After serving 2-3 tours of duty the current administration is asking our soldiers to go to Afghanistan: where they should have been in the first place. That is not supporting our troops. That is using them like pawns in a chess game, making them completely expendable. We would have had Osama Bin Laden a long time ago, if, we had kept our priorities where they should have been. Go ahead hammer away at the same tired Roe V Wade type issues. Have you ever noticed that the people who hate abortion tend to love the Death Penalty? They care so much about the unborn fetus and so little about the child once it???s born. Only those who have adopted children have earned the right to get passionate about the issue. So go ahead force the fetus to live so you can use it as cannon fodder later on.

    Military Donations seen favoring Obama

    Report finds reversal of trend

    Associated Press

    Friday, August 15, 2008

U.S. soldiers have donated more presidential campaign money to Democratic Sen. Barack Obama than to Republican Sen. John McCain, a reversal of previous campaigns in which military donations tended to favor Republican White House hopefuls, a nonpartisan group reported Thursday.

Troops serving abroad have given nearly six times as much money to Mr. Obama's presidential campaign as they have to Mr. McCain's, the Center for Responsive Politics said.

The results also are striking because they favored Mr. Obama, who never has served in the military. Mr. McCain meanwhile, is a decorated war veteran who spent nearly five years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. The Arizona senator graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and had a 22-year career as a naval aviator.

Mr. Obama has opposed the war in Iraq and says he would withdraw combat troops within 16 months. Mr. McCain has been a steadfast supporter of the war, saying he would withdraw the troops only when conditions on the ground warrant it.

???Obama will work tirelessly to uphold this nation's sacred trust with its veterans, to ensure they are not forgotten after they return home and he will provide our troops with the leadership they deserve, as well as the support they and their families need,??? Obama spokesman Nick Shapiro said.

Mr. McCain's campaign played down the significance of the donations.

???John McCain has been endorsed by more retired admirals and generals than Barack Obama has military donors,??? McCain spokesman Michael Goldfarb said.

???We feel confident that many U.S. troops stationed overseas will support John McCain in the election this fall, but we suspect most are too busy doing the important work of defending this country than to make political contributions,??? Mr. Goldfarb said.

The report tracked donations of $200 or more. It found that 859 members of the military donated a total of $335,536 to Mr. Obama. Mr. McCain received $280,513 from 558 military donors.

Among soldiers serving overseas at the time of their donations, 134 gave a total of $60,642 to Mr. Obama while 26 gave a total of $10,665 to Mr. McCain. That was less than the amount received by Republican Ron Paul, who collected $45,512 from 99 soldiers serving abroad, the report said.

global warming is a joke its just a tool for the democrats just like the war is for the republicans. The earths temps are controlled by solar activity and ocean currents as far as carbon goes every living thing whether it is plant or animal is carbon based plants need carbon to live they take in carbon and put out oxygen which is what we need the more carbon in the air the more plants thrive the more fruit they bear and the more oxygen for us to breath. Global warming due to carbon is a myth period what would you have us do next plug all of the active volcanoes oh oh I know the countries with active volcanoes we can get them with an extra tax that would teach them for harboring active volcanoes. I disagree with quite a lot of what the republicans do but I would far worse hate socialism if you think we are broke now just wait till the government finishes socializing everything. The only answer is to reduce government and eliminate most of the governments spending not create more taxes and expand the government more.

Global warming is a complete and utter myth. Ask the government scientists and watch their interview with John Stossel. The important thing is that people are more aware.

Russia relocated thousands off Russians into South Ossetia, issued Russian passports to South Ossetians, based so called peace keeping RussianTroops in South Ossetia, and provided military support for seperatists in South Ossetia. This was a Soviet play designed provoke Georgia to provide a pretext for a Russian invasion of Georgia. If you think the Russians are trying to help the Ossetians win independence, think Chechnya.

What would you do if Mexico moved thousands of Mexicans into El Paso County, issued Mexican passports to people living in El Paso County, moved "peace keeping" Russian military troops into El Paso County and provided military support to sepratists living in El Paso county?

Wise up .. this is the Soviets trying to reestablish dominance over counties on their borders and take control of the oil and gas pipelines to Europe so they have the Europeans by the short hairs.

You sound like another head-in-the-sand appeaser.

    Obama measured?

Obama is incapable of a real-time straight forward response to a real-time issue involving anything let alone important international events. First his army of 300 foreign relations experts must gather and analyze data, performe abckground research, and check the polls, to determine public opinion. They then form Oabama's opinion for him, being careful to be equivocal to provide wiggle-room for the future. The team then informs Obama of his position and produces an inspiring scripted response, Obama rehearses his response, Obama then delivers it be fore a crown of admiring sycophants.

The United States had no ability to do anything except offer diplomatic help during the Georgia crisis -- thanks to an unnecessary war that Bush and McCain both supported. And, don't forget that McCain was being egged on by a foreign policy "adviser" who was a paid lobbyist for the Georgian Government until LAST SPRING. Meanwhile, the crisis seems to be ending in a ceasefire -- THANKS TO DIPLOMACY. If you want a war-mongering president who doesn't care if the US can actually back up his "trash talk" and who is,advised by foreign-paid lobbyists -- Vote MCain.

Actually we immediately sent humanitarian aid and then we sent Rice. Here we had a previously commununist country that was corrupt from border to border that turns itself around to become a respectible democracy. Russia decides it wants control of the pipeline that runs thru Georgia and thumbs it's nose at the rest of the civilized European democracies and tries to over run the country starting with it's so called break away provience. Russia is a Communist bully and should have harsh sanctions against it for what Putin pulled.

Why do Americans always have to provide aid? Ever heard of the Muslim community giving aid anywhere? It's time for the European Union to carry their weight as well as UN peace-keeping troops. They seem to forget they're alot closer to Russia, Georgia, Iran and North Korea.

Bush also Spurned McCain's Suggestion, that the Senators, Both Democrat and Republican should be called back to Vote...Bush Rejected such a Demand from Mccain and went on to the Olympics.

Omaar, I thinkj Obama should also get his ass back to work in Chicago where he belongs.
He has proven, as in the debates, and now (when some reporter dares to question him on the spot), that he cannot think on his own. Dont be blinded by him. Stop promoting someone you CANT even criticize for lack of spontaniety (he doesnt allow), and his lack of political records.

Michael Phelps: Ignores John McCain???s "We???re All Georgians Message" on Olympic Stand..

I'm Glad that Phelps Did Not Acknowledge that Country (Georgia) and their national Anthem, because E.European Georgia, is Not Our Country and Not our Concern. Phelps knows what is Happening and who started what !!!

Call Me when Atalanta, Savanah or Augusta georgia is Invaded by Moscow, until then, E.European Georgia is Absolutely of No Importance to me.

United States swimming phenom Michael Phelps continued his Beijing gold rush tonight, earning the gold medal on the back of a world-record-setting outing in the final of the men's 200-meter individual medley.

Note: However, the ensuing Medal Ceremony was Marred when Phelps Failed to Heed the Directive of Presidential Contender John McCain, that "We are" Now "All Georgians."

Phelps gave these instructions LITTLE HEED AT THE CEREMONY, where he appeared to salute the United States' own flag, while "The Star Spangled Banner" played on the loudspeaker,

Big Note: INSTEAD of "Tavisupleba," the Georgian National Anthem. This raised many questions. Why won't Michael Phelps use his powerful "dolphin kick" to circumvent the Russian naval blockade in the Black Sea?

Recognizing that Phelps had Failed to learn The Lesson Of Munich, Hungarian silver medalist Laszlo Cseh left the ceremony and immediately annexed the Sudetenland.

This article is so silly. Honestly, Mr. Thomas, if you're not going to say anything then just "don't waste the ink" or time of the readers. McCain may well have encouraged the Georgian invasion of S. Ossetia. He's been in frequent contact with the Georgian president Saakashvilli and McCain's campaign manager is a lobbyist for Georgia (which means that McCain's campaign is being run by an agent of a foreign country). McCain desperately needed an issue to make him look "presidential," and he's on record as claiming that the assassination of Benzier Bhutto in Pakistan gave him a boost in the polls. Whether or not he actually did set off the Georgia crisis, it's clear that he wants to exploit it for political gain to the max.

BTW: It's interesting how the corporate media is dropping all mention of Georgia's invasion of South Ossetia and the atrocities their army committed there. They've got to dumb down the discourse so that there's a "good" guy (Georgia) and a "bad" guy, Russia. Georgia good, Russia bad. Or as George Orwell put this kind of stupidity in Animal Farm: "Four legs good, two legs bad."

Spacer, what prompted Russia to keep it's troops in Moldova to support rebels? Russia has targeted the former captive nations with cyber attacks, cut off natural gas and oil supplies, supplied Russian speaking rebels and still has army troop occupying some areas. All this before McCain was a candidate.

Go ahead neocons, go to war. Let's see you guys start recruiting! By the way do any of these idiots realize that Russia has extremely large oil reserves? What do you think will happen to the price of oil if we attack Russia? We already are stretched way too thin thanks to Bush, and we can't do a damn thing about Georgia except talk. Putin and his friends know this, and are exploiting our weakness and magnifying their strength. If we hadn't gone to Iraq, and weakened our military as well as our financial position, Russia wouldn't dare do such a thing. Now who's next? China in 2009 (post olympics) taking Taiwan? Syria invading Golan Heights? North Korea starting trouble with South Korea? Pakistan continuing to give refuge to the Taliban? Venezuela...? All of these countries may become emboldened by the short-sighted foolishness of the neocons. Sew the wind...reap the whirlwind! I pray that cooler heads will prevail.

This is not about Iraq. It is about Russia's unhappiness with the former captive nations whom they have targeted with cyber attacks, cut off natural gas and oil supplies, supplied Russian speaking rebels and still has army troop occupying several countries besides Georgia. (these have been called the frozen wars.) Russia feels humiliated and like Germany in the 1930 are resurgent . That is the reality.
