Many of you don't remember the 1964 election. Goldwater ran against Johnson. As a school child, I was told that if Goldwater won, we would have to go to school on Saturday! That sure turned me against Goldwater. Of course as a 2nd grader, I made no effort to substanitate that, I just made up my mind from what someone told me. How many of us are doing the same thing, without the awareness or objectivity to admit it? The bottom line is that whoever wins, they will NOT have the impact they purport to be able to have, or that we believe that they will have. That is because of the balance of power. Congress, who is truly to blame for most of our mess, consists of so many members, that individual blame is impossible. So let's take the easy way out and blame the current president. In my opinion, it is many of the congressmen and senators that are self interested, power hungry individuals that are making decisions based on personal interest with blatent disregard for their constituency and the country. Most of their decisions are not publicized or made visible to the masses. So they will continue to act as they have been. Hopefully, with the mess we are in, we will look closer at these public "servants" and in 2 years, start to vote out the ringleaders of this disgraceful legislature. As for the ones that are trying to do the right thing and make a difference, let's identify them as well and reward them by keeping them in office. If we fix the congress, the president at that time will be viewed as GREAT. It doesn't matter who it is, either.

i have a problem when people to to generalize and say cruel things about politicians. a great many of them sacrafice a lot to run for office. and why do so many think they have the right to make them whipping boys for everything wrong in the world. we are ALL responsible for what is wrong in the world, voting for anyone isn't an excuse for not doing what each one of us should be doing. don't demonize the public servant, there will always be bad apples in every endeavor, look at wall st, look at banking, look at the petro powers, being in business for profit doesn't mean you have a liscense to run amuck....like JFK said, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. and since the world is getting smaller all the time, ask what you can do for your planet while your/we are at it.

Just to let you know your desire to have business owners pay more taxes will cost jobs. I have friends that have business that will be affected by this Obama plan - keep in mind these small businesses include franchise companies that are individual owned and operated like your local sub shops, and fast food joints. By the way these companies provide a lot of jobs that help our young adults earn money while they go to school. Guess what buddy they are going to have to cut jobs because there payroll taxes are going to go through the roof so in order to pay the bills they will need to hire fewer individuals to maintain a profit.

If you want to preach spread the wealth why don't you go on line and review Obama's tax returns that are released for public review. Obama made over 1 million, yes he did have donations with a majority of that going to his church. He wants to talk spread the wealth then donate to charities that do good things in neigborhoods that need help.

You want to talk racism, I have heard more comments from minorities stating that they are voting for Obama because he is black and he would help them and fewer comments in regards to people not voting for him because he is black.

The worst thing about this whole election is the media's complete failure in educating the public. With so many new voters involved with this historic election you would think they would ensure the public was properly educated about all of the issues to make this whole process a good experience for all. Our young adults are the future and they need to go forward with all of the tools necessary to make good educated decisions. They are not puppets and should not be treated as such.

I cannot believe some of the comments I've been reading. I'm 58 years old, white, female and a registered Republican who voted for Obama. Most of you need to get your heads out of the sand and stop being led by fear and lies. He is a Christian man with a muslim name. Standing with terrorists? When? Where? If anyone is comfortable with Palin being literally a heartbeat away from being President, I would have no idea what you could be thinking. She's a clueless, opportunistic fake who jumped at the chance to be in the limelight, knowing she was in way over her head. The debates proved it. On the one hand, the complaint is Biden's been aroung too long, etc., yet on the other hand Obama has no experience. Which is it? McCain picked Palin to get elected, plain and simple. He caved in to the radical right instead of being the maverick he claims to be. I don't want someone like that to be my President. Obama has stated time and time again what he plans to do, if elected, and how he's going to do it. McCain says "stand with me and there will be change". How? What's the plan? I can't imagine having a President and Vice President like McCain/Palin. Hopefully by tomorrow, I won't have to worry about it.

  • Posted By: danhead01 @ 11/04/2008 3:02:59 PM

Why would you want someone in office who wants to make fuel and energy costs skyrocket? You complain that Palin has no experience but you fail to see that Obama has no experience either. McCain is old but he is sincere. Whatever the decision is going to be it is defiantley going to get worse before it gets better. And if you vote for your almighty Obama your just gonna have to blame him. Why not vote McCain so you can blame him. You blame Bush and say it's the republican's but most of the bad things have happened after we got a democratic house. And they have over ruled Bush on many things. The real estate maret has crashed. Unemployment is up, home repos is up. Maybe we do need a democrat to help raise our taxes so those of us who have lost everything can get it back for free while those who still have a little pay for it all. What ever happened to the father working and the mother staying at home to care for the famiy? Why is that just a dream now. You have to be rich for that to happen. This country has fallen into the dumps and it will take a person bigger than anyone on the ballot to make it happen. Just remember your vote could finish of what we have left of this country!

One of you Obama supporters PLEASE give us something factual and concrete....tell us something Mr. Obama has ever actually done for this country. He has abstained from more votes in congress than he has actually voted for... He has less exucutive experience than Palin. Are you all just voting for him because he speaks well and tells you he wants change???

He understands the health care system as his wife was a hospital administrator (my family is in health care and it is clear he is the better choice); I read an article on what the tax policies mean for Americans of different incomes and anyone under $250,000 will get a larger tax cut through Obama vs Mccain; he plans to pay back some of the national debt by eliminating the Bush tax breaks for the extremely wealthy corporations making record profits, while American workers like myself are hurting economically; he will stop borrowing billions of dollars from China for the Iraq war and corporate bailouts, which is truly what will be the downfall of this country. You have to remember that Mccain's economic policies are the same as Bush's, and Bush's failed. Under Mccain we will still need to borrow billions per month until we are no longer a super power.

If you would have been watching the documentary on Obama the other night you would know what he has done for this country. I was going to vote for McCain until I saw that show. He was the first black president at Harvard Law. He has helped so many people in Chicago with housing. He demanded to have the asbestos removed from old buildings, which they did. He has done many many good things. Way too many to list here. He is not muslim, he is bi racial. I think people are afraid to vote for him becuase of all the rumors that have been passed. If they were informed of the facts, they may change thier minds.

Sorry but time for a change doesn't cut it. Obama is a militant socialist racist who has the sociopathic persuasive abilities of Hitlar and Hitlar brought Germany to it's knees and desecrated over 6 million jews and what I don't understand is that they'll back him and his "realignment of weath" politics. How ignorant can everyone be. The United States of America was made on Capitalism and his politics are more socialistic than capitalistic. Can't everyone see that?

  • Posted By: FreedomLova @ 11/04/2008 2:46:22 PM

It makes me sick that you ignorant wild pigmees are voting for Obama. You do not even realize how you are taking our Country into tribulation. "Spread the wealth"? Go to work you lazy bum. Because I work and bust my hump to make money, lazy welfare recipients who try to get everything they can for free and claim "oppression" should sit back and get more of what I work hard for? I thought this was the "Land of opportunity". "Change"? you will see change alright. 1 world government, suicide bombers in our shopping malls, what else? Oh yeah I forgot, at least you pro choice murderers will be allowed to kill, and you homosexual heathen will be able to get your marriage certificates. Then tell Iran to duck, because as soon as we arent backing Israel anymore, you think Israel is going to wait for Iran to get them first? Welcome president Obama, welcome change, welcome to the end of freedom. Thanks for voting for Obama.

WOW I do not know if I would have said it so brutally honest. But you are right on the mark.... when the Feces hits the Oscillating device and you voted for Obama shoot yourselves and do us all a favor... oh wait guns will be gone along with your money and rights..... Hmmm!!!!!

In this economic termoil you quit your job? Smart move. You a republican?

  • Posted By: denise0077 @ 11/04/2008 3:01:32 PM

I know economy is a major problem right now but let's not forget the national security issue. Remember 9/11? and I'm very sure that McCain will do better in this matter. We DO NOT need another 9/11. Economy will recover, but friends and family taken away from you won't come back. The rest of the world will less likely to test this country if McCain wins.

Well in the name of civilization...do not judge in races, colors and religions.what's most important World Financial crises...Here we go guys in this aspect I support Obama...

  • Posted By: saanad @ 11/04/2008 2:54:07 PM

I voted earlier today. This election will be my second, 2004 was the first time I registered to vote. I am a single mother of 3 young school age kids. After reading some of the comments below I wonder what the future holds for my family. My finace and I just moved into a new home and just made the deadline of the down payment and closing cost assistance. The financial crisis hits close to home for me my parents are not sure if they will be able to keep their home, both of them are retired and live on a fixed income. They have done everything possible to keep their home, their second mortage (line of credit) comes from the same company that they pay their first mortage to. This bank is not offering any help with the second becuase it is an ARM... what are they to do?

This election is more on what will happen to the small people (middle class)... anyone can talk and sound good but setting an plan in motion is what will make the difference in the long run.... Things HAVE to change, a fresh new look, ideas and concepts can produce a much needed change of living.

    Be safe,

Your key words were "Down Payment Assistance." If you can't afford to do it on your own. You don't deserve.. Get a clue...

We all need to realize that although the president has a certain amount of power (obviously), he does not have to power to make laws. That is done by the congress. They must pass both the house and the senate befroe they hit the desk of the president then he has the power to veto, but he does not have the power to write the laws. I will admit that some of the problems we are facing as a country are due to Bush but you must realize that most of the problems we face are because of what was passed by congress (who can overturn a presidential veto). With that in mind, ask yourself this question. Who passed the bailout package that so many of us think is outrageous? It was not Bush. It was the democratic led congress. Is that somwthing that you agree with or are proud of? It is the peole who need bailed out. Not the banks who put the peole in the position they are in. Did the banks force the people to take the loans? NO! But in this "me" oriented society we now live in, giving peole the opportunity to borrow beyonh their means was not a smart thing to do. I am more worried about who is going to get into congress than I am about the president. I agree things need to change. Do I think Obama will do it? No I dont. The president alone cannot and will not turn this country around. It is our congress and the people. Be smart. Be realistic. Stop being so greedy and making stupids decisions. As I climb down from my soap box, I will make one last comment. If you really want to make changes. Run for office or vote in somebody who will actually step up to the plate and do something. Too much talk and not enough action!!!

It is time for America to have a smart president. This philosophy that Bush came up with of surrounding himrself with smart people in his cabinent to hide his lack of intellect has not worked. He seems to always need to ask someone smarter than he is what he should do. Lets face facts McCain is Dumber than Bush. I see nothing that indicates that McCain is smart enough to lead America on a National level or a GLOBAL level. OBAMA hands down is smarter than McCain and Palin combined.

    • Posted By: ohgoodness @ 11/04/2008 2:59:28 PM

every president has advisors. Every president should be checking with their advisors. Just because you have "president" status, does not mean you're all-knowing.

  • Posted By: leahmc @ 11/04/2008 2:59:14 PM

I just wonder who OWNS Obama? Somebody with some serious money has paid for his rock star campaign, or several somebodies, and he obviously doesn't want us to know who it is, or else it would have been disclosed. I know, I know, you can go on some websites and see the individual contributors, but there is also about $100 MILLION out there that is still undisclosed. I think it's a little suspicious. Well, I guess we'll find out soon enough if this puppet actually gets elected.

Obama is just more of the Old Boys Club - Not to mention that he is a racist - militant -socialist that has the sociopathic persuasion abilities of Hitlar. He's NOT smart just using the race card as Dr. MLK did he is nothing but a reble rouser!

No matter who people say they are voting for, it all comes down to people not ready for a black president.
