HIYA MYA !!!! A Great day indeed ! I've got to admit, I had my doubts that this could really happen,
given what I've been hearing from my fellow members of the "New South, but
it's happened, and it happened in a big way. No Supreme Court intervention, no recounts. WE CAN
CELEBRATE NOW !!!!! My wife hasn't stopped crying tears of joy, even still. I shed one or two myself.
As far as 'working hard" goes, I guess I did my share, but you my dear, were an inspiration. Tireless,
steady. You handled yourself with dignity and class. I'm proud to know you. Check your in-box !
    I'll talk to you soon.

I thought too, that that was well said Vivi. I remember those days. I was a young man then, just
coming into my own, but I remember the hope we all shared, and the horror we shared when the
Kennedy's were taken from us. I haven't had that kind of hope since, until tonight. Hope lives.
HOPE LIVES !! Tip your glasses America. Tonight, for the first time in a long time, you can be proud
of what you've done, and the entirety of Planet Earth, is celebrating with us !

Vivi, I could not agree with you more! Well said.

Hi Gleeson! I'm with you! It is time to rejoice! What a great day. This day will forever be etched in my mind, as well as the history books!. It is all I wanted for my birthday :-) Cheers, my friend! Have fun fishin! You worked hard! Big Hugs, Mya

Tiredoldvet, You are a complete idiot. Your comments border on insane. If i make 250,000 dollars a year and you work at Mc Donalds and get WIC vouchers and food stamps we are not the same. I'm not an eliteist but I work 60 hours a week, bare minimum. I am not better than you but you can bet your old tired vet butt I work harder than you to get my take. I served my country in the military, I volunteer in youth activities, I'm civic minded and go to church. I make alot of money so how is that different then the 8-5 guy ?? Not much, you are right there, but don't tell me I don't work harder than the average american. You idiotic spewer of whimsical rhetoric

    • Posted By: Tiredoldvet @ 11/05/2008 1:23:39 AM

Abdullah the Butcher? Idiot? Insane? Actually, I thought you were truly amazing. Kinda like "Me, Me, Me, It's all about Me" type of guy.

Work harder? I worked more than 80 hours a week for the better part of 27 years I was in the military. After which I was retired as 100% disabled veteran.

Served your country in the military? Why? You certainly don't sound patriotic.

Civic minded and go to church? After your name calling, self centered and negative statements about your fellow Americans. You sanctimonious hypocrite.

I may be an idiotic spewer of whimsical rhetoric but, unlike you, I have respect for and belief in my fellow Americans.

Bobby Kennedy, just before his assassination, said that in 40 years he thought a black person could be president. That happened exactly 40 years ago.

This is such an amazing time to be an American... not to mention a Virginian! Generations from now, PRESIDENT Obama will be a figure of history, a president as iconic as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. You may not have voted for him, and you might not like him, but both Washington and Lincoln, like all transformational leaders, had their share of denouncers.

This is truly amazing. And for whom you cast ballot no longer matters, we are all in this together as Americans, and no divisive politics can take that away. No matter what your political affiliation, you can all be proud of this day. Even if you wish Obama hadn't won, you can still appreciate the monumental moment we are experiencing TOGETHER in the history of America.

    Much love to you all.

Why not just have yourself a big 'ol glass a Johney Walker Red Label and take a load off,......er maybe put one on. Maybe I'll argue with you some othwer day RL. Right now? I'm just too damn Happy !!!! Oh. Yea. Leading with my "emotional chin" ?..hehehe. I know. Not the first time I've been called shameless.

Gleeson: One final thought. You asked who's vote I would be negating. You might recall that our votes are actually for our states electors to the electoral college, not the actual candidates. Consequently, if you live somewhere in the south, and since I live way up north, our votes have no effect on each other. Not sure where Mya and your mother live, but probably not in my state either, so I probably didn't negate their vote either.

Remember, leading with an "emotional" chin is not a good way to enter the ring of ideas. Back to the books!

We have a winner and America has truly spoken, What a win it was "BY A LANDSLIDE" congrats to the new first family. Maybe now America can get back on track and start to rebuild this great nation.

Gleeson: I was pretty clear on how I ended up engaged in the blogs initially. You can check my first post back to you. Perhaps the better question is why did I stay. Frankly, I remained on the blog to continue a dialogue with Mya over an issue about which I am very passionate, namely abortion. I felt it was important to continue the discussion because I struggled with this issue for many years and have been touched by it directly. Any opportunity to help someone further consider their stand is an opportunity I feel compelled to pursue. Yo may not have read my posts to Mya on this issue, so if you have not, I would urge you to do so before passing judgment. Ultimately then, I have shared one of the reasons I could not vote for Mr. Obama. He simply has chosen to dodge the issue of the civil rights of the unborn and claims that this should be left to the states to decide. Again, a read of my posts to Mya will help you understand my position here. Inaction is simply not acceptable!

My second reason for not supporting Mr. Obama is his stance on gun control. While I am sure he means well when he proposes reinstatement of the 1994 "Assault Weapons" Ban as a method to reduce crime, the FBI statistics from the period during which the ban was in force indicate that it had no impact on crime. Likewise, Mr. Obama has stated directly that he believes that individual citizens should not be allowed to carry weapons for their own defense. As you might guess from my previous posts, I am an extremely independent person who believes that it is not only my right , but more importantly, my responsibility to protect myself and my family. As Americans, we have been lulled into a false sense of security that tells us the police are responsible for our protection. This in spite of numerous court cases that clearly ruled that police are only responsible for the "general security" of our population and not for the safety and security of each individual. So you see, I must protect myself and my family because it would be wrong to expect the government to do so. Mr. Obama's position against this fundamental right to self-defense by virtue of limiting any citizen's means of self-defense is simply unacceptable.

You may call me a pro-life, gun-nut (as most liberals do) for basing my decision on only these two issues. However, I challenge you to legitimately explain to me why the protection of innocent life, whether mine, my family's or the unborn, is not sufficient reason upon which to base my decision as to who I feel should serve as my President.

I also refused to cast a meaningless ballot for any candidate that had no chance of winning. You may call me a principled pragmatist!

Bottomline: I don't particularly care if you agree with my positions, but you will not change my views anymore than I will change yours.

Now, as Paul Harvey would say, you know "The rest of the story".

We needed 8 years of Bush and his henchmen to convince us we are better than that.

  • Posted By: hglad @ 11/04/2008 11:06:49 PM

Maybe we just needed to have eight years of George Bush and his administration to convince us "we the pople" are better than that.

Praise God that Obama is winning. It will be wonderful to have an intelligent, Christian President of the United States of America. I see things definitely improving for the better in our near future.

BUT WHO TOOK THE BUSINESS RISK ?????? Did I work my way through college to just stay at the status quo ?/ No i wanted to get ahead. Your comments border on socialistic values. Individuals aren't americans ?? Who do you think founded this country ?? The people that took a chance on a new life away from the KING. Your rhetoric is tiring, you know nothing of the way the economy works. If I take the chance, put my sack on the line, I get the reward, not you for taking a job working for ME>

Can everyone stop with the biblical references. I find it insulting that you would use faith in politics. Democrats are faithful too. Obama is a Christian and not a Muslim. Let's at least respect each other on that level. Don't bring God into this.

I'm voting for Obama/Joe the Biden, and I am a Christian, just like them.

    • Posted By: jennzdawgs @ 11/04/2008 4:02:50 PM

THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED ON - in GOD WE TRUST - IF GOD IS NOT IN EVERYTHING YOU DO -- AND IF YOU DO NOT WITNESS AS PART OF YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE - THEN ARE YOU A CHRISTIAN??? - OBAMA 'S BELIEF'S & WRIGHT'S ARE NOT THE SAME AS WHAT GOD TELL'S US IN THE BIBLE - SO IT SHOULD BE BROUGHT UP AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLASTERED ON EVERY BILLBOARD IN EACH CITY - EVEN JESSIE JACKSON GOT IT!

      • Posted By: ObamaIsBest4US @ 11/04/2008 8:53:58 PM

I don't know if you noticed, but you have caps lock on. I entirely disagree. There should be a difference between church and state. This country wasn't founded on "in GOD WE TRUST." You're looking at a dollar bill instead of the constitution.

  • Posted By: rockinjj @ 11/04/2008 8:46:39 PM

Amen to Tiredold vet. This country has become a nation of individuals rather than a nation of Americans standing united together. Long gone are the days when neighbor helped neighbor. The concept of pay it forward for you never know where you will be tomorrow is gone as well. There are so many people living paycheck to paycheck. The old saying, "By the grace of God, there go I". Many of those business owners who are in the 250K and up category got there by those people who worked for them and were living paycheck to paycheck. I have known so many people that lived this way and still do. One wrong turn; one major illness/injury and they are homeless. These people live in fear of losing what little they have. That is no way to live. Getting sick should not mean losing your home.

And pardon my bluntness, but McCain didn't do ANYTHING of significance during his stint in the war. Nothing more than any other of the thousands of soldiers that sacrificed their life and safety did. He's just here to brag and use it to tip the scales in his direction. Do you know of anything important or some life changing event he was responsible for during the war? Please share - or let's not go back 30 years okay.

    • Posted By: Tiredoldvet @ 11/04/2008 8:44:03 PM

I didn't vote for Mr. McCain. I have noticed that you have a lot to say about other peoples comments. This particular one makes me feel you are still pretty young. I spent time in Vietnam. I would rather have had my name put on the wall than to have gone through what he did. He is a great man. I have a lot of respect for him. That is much more than I can say for people who have not put thier lives on the line for our country and feel as you do.
