VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN 08, OUR NEXT PRESIDENT!!!! YES!

  • Posted By: LonnieFriesen @ 11/04/2008 8:20:08 AM

I don't like Obama, but it appears as though he???ll probably win. With everything he's promised and his inexperience in government, I'm tightening my belt and preparing for the worst. In the end, only those who have no debt will be able to survive an Obama presidency.

As much as I hate to say it, Obama could be a very uniting force for America in much the same way as Carter was. It's not that either of them has done or will do anything positive for the country, but because of the great harm they bring to the country, people will be forced to take control of their lives. This could actually unite us and force the country to heal itself in much the same way as Carter did. Look at the united nature of the country when Reagan ran following the Carter years.

If Obama wins, and he probably will, it'll be because of the votes of young people too ignorant to know history, and are thus condemned to repeat it. Pain will force people to realize what???s really important. Freedom and individual responsibility.

You talk inexperience when talking about who votes for Obama...what about me (45), my boyfriend (51), Ellen DeGeneres, Cher...etc... Need I go on....you sound like the one who is reading up or know anything about anything...

(Part 2 to my long post)

Being one that understands discriminations and its many evil faces, I didn???t think that I was one to be racist. The sad fact is that I am. I started to notice a distinct pattern of behavior that I portray when around black men. I am more lax in speech (because hey, if they are dumb, I can feel free to be too, right?). I tend to have more of a "Imp better than you" mentality around minorities of all kinds. When a person of a different skin color walks past me I grip my fiancée tighter. I check to see if my wallet is gone, just to make sure he didn???t pickpocket me. I turn around and make sure he hasn???t turned and aimed a gun at us. All of this is a direct result - in my opinion - of the racist society that we live in today.

I think that getting out in the open is the best way to come to terms with myself. I am a racist, and always have been. I feel much better just clearing the air with that. Now the healing can begin.

I think that a Barack Obama presidency will be good for me personally to begin the healing process. I need to be able to wrap my head around the fact that black people are just that - people. I need to accept our differences, and while this won???t totally heal me, it is a start.

Through all of this I have found out a lot about me, and our culture. To those I have harmed - once again, I apologize. To those that suffer because of our innate uncomfortably with the idea of the minority, I am sorry. I wish that there was a way that I could repair the deep fissure between us. I can only do my part. I feel better. Thanks for listening.

Wow Rexy, I didn't know that, and wouldn't have guessed. I commend you for your brave honesty, and I hope you use this to reach others of this mindset too. I am glad to know that you voted for Obama because of merits that matter to you. The fact that you are overcoming racism, and "healing" yourself is commendable. I applaud you, and thank you for taking this painful hard introspection and for growing as a human. We are all really a part of each other. I have to lay down for a while. Enjoy your election party tonight. I hope everyone checks back in. Big Hugs, Mya

    Individual responsibility...thats a funny term

My mother worked for a non for profit agency for about 20 years when I was growing up. It is called Rockwest Training and it prepares people with developmental disabilities to join the workforce. Because she worked there, she obviously didnt get paid a lot. As a consequence of my mom and her partner getting together when I was about 7 we didnt get the same opportunites a lot of families did. For instance our family generally didnt get the amount of tax breaks that a family of that size normally gets. In fact, there were several years that my family owed on taxes. On top of that, since Rockwest didnt have a healthcare plan to speak of, my family never had health care. I had never gone to a dentist until I joined the Air Force in 2004. I was 17. I had been to the doctors a total of three times in the span of seven years.

When I was 13 I had a major illness called Necrotizing Faciitis (I slaughtered the spelling I am sure) which is a flesh eating virus that requires immediate and extreme medical attention. I spent 4 days in the hospital. The bill for that hospital visit was upwards of 20,000 dollars. We tried everything to pay it off, and eventually we did by running a paper route for 3 years. My brother, my mom, her partner, and I all got up at 3 am and ran a 200 paper route.

The point of this is not to tell you my life story, or to somehow gain sympathy, it is to demonstrate that sure personal accountability and responsibility is great, but sometimes people need help. Our family did. I was in 9th grade when we ran that paper route. We could have used some help, and maybe I could have gotten better grades, gotten a scholarship and a degree. Now I am working toward a degree, but I am four years behind.

So Lonnie, please try to see some other perspective than your own and remember that there are people that have it much rougher than you. Our family pulled through because of resolve, but a lot of families wont. Thanks for listening.

Free isn't free people. America was based on that because we had to fight for our freedon from England. And if America is such an imposing tyrant country why do so many people (other countries) come to us and ask for help?
Yes, the mid east asked for our help back where Carter was President and they were turned down not to mention Clinton was also asked before he left office why do you think we had Desert Storm and so here we are again helping others the only differenc is that we were attacked (9/11).
This election has turned into something else; there is no words to describe it. The anti-Americanism that has affect our country has to stop and it isn't it just kepts sprialing down hill. What is it going to take?
Eventually, we'll all be so equal that all individaulity will disappear and we'll be a union of One where no one is better. no one makes more, no one deserves more because everyone works supposedly just as hard as the next and eveyone follows one ruling/order so no one person can gain ground over another.
This dream world my friends is called COMMUNISM, please look it up and come to realise how good we have.
America is a young country, but see how far we have come. If you look at all other history ours isn't so bad we aren't like Rome taking everything they can get their hands on, We're not like England taking everything they can get their hands on. We aren't like France taking everything they can get their hands on. We aren't like Germany taking everything they can get their hands on. The intergrity of the American people are stronger than the one person in charge who would try to use our country to conquer. We should be so greatful and yet we're not. Would America really change if we got a new President who thinks our Constitution is flawed? or would it be so terrible to have a President who wants to see something finished? We are Americans first.

I want to put all politics aside here, as I see some of American's Finest and Bravest are here.

To: driftdaddy & comminghome04, and all of our troops. Thank you for everything you have done for all of us, for all of the sacrifices you have made, for your exceptional bravery, for your huge contribution to this country and for everything you have done to lift up Iraqis. Thank your family and loved ones for their huge bravery and sacrifices too. All of Americans are forever in your debt, and I will never forget that, or let anyone forget that.

I am sorry that the sentiment to bring our troops home safely is offensive to you. I am a mom with a son about to go to Iraq, and I want him to come home safely too.

Stay safe, God be with you, You are all Heroes and not for one day do I ever forget to be mindful and prayerful about all of you.

    Love & Hugs, Mya

I have enjoyed many of you post's. I did not vote the same - but our overall thoughts are not so different. We just might have differences in who/how they get carried out by ?!?
I just hope that whoever is elected will treat our warriors/soldiers/sons/daughters/ect with ALL the respect they deserve---THEY ARE THE ONES WHO STILL TO THIS DAY VOLLENTEIR TO FIGHT FOR THIS COUNTRY---and some sit home and cause trouble forgeting that there is not a draft going on & most service persons are happy to due their duty!
I see a lot of media BS for ratings--ITS NOW GETTING TOUGHER FOR THEM--WHATS FOR NEXT MONTH???
      All voters SHOULD VOTE!!
Hopefully we will have a better 4 years than the last 16--NOT A TYPO-- TODAYS ECONO PROBLEMS STARTED LONG BEFORE NOW!

Thanks BYSUMMERS, that was really sweet. Well, I have done my part in campaigning and feel I have to draw the line with our troops. I have the right to vote because of their sacrifice, service and bravery, so I feel I must respect their vote without my small comments, regardless of who. Like I said earlier, other than the racists comments by a few, I have learned from everyone here, from all positions and candidate preference. I feel enriched because of this, and enjoyed some passionate, but civil dialogue which was a breath of fresh air!

Regardless of who wins, I intend to put my full support behind our new President. And regardless of who that is, if I don't like what they're doing, I'll make lots of noise with my congressmen, senators and hopefully with many of the bright minds I met here. I am glad to see McCain supporters here, who as people I have respect. It sounds weird, but after so much angry hate spewed by a few, if McCain were to win, I am now comforted to know that some of you behind him are good, decent people.

I see you're a military mom too. Thank you for your son's bravery and sacrifice, and yours and your family too. Did you bite off all your fingernails at times? My prayers are with you and your son.

        My Sincerest Regards, Mya

so you are voting for someone that will destroy our country by voting for a racist? hmmm seems weird that you waste your sympathy vote on someone that hates you for the color of your skin....lol what a conundrum.

Noob, So what's that make Bush a Trillionare? Do the math.

  • Posted By: Torreschild @ 11/04/2008 8:01:36 AM

Everyone has stated that this is NOT an election for Black or White in their speeches. B.S. Being of a mixed race myself, I am sick and tired of the self racism of African Americans in South Florida. You don't hear black people from other heritages with all this freaking drama. Get over it!! As a female we have it much worse.

Although I do not subscribe to the fact that Barack Obama can deliver everything that he promises, I do however believe that the man is brilliant, careful and an overall pragmatist. That is the change that America needs. We need to become a thinking society again. We need to learn to love each other again, and overall we need to learn to trust our government again. This is the era that the lost generation becomes found again, this is the era in which people question the status quo, and this, ultimately, is the era for change.

It was not long ago (In June) that I came to an impasse in my morals. I sat down and had a heart to heart with myself that I will never forget. I asked myself "Do I have it in me to vote for a man of color?". From that question cropped up a series of uncomfortable conclusions that I came to. The first is that I was raised in a primarily segregationist society. People separate themselves into groupings that are like themselves. It even goes as far as major groups of people having severe problems with one another. This did not come as a surprise to me, as it has been this way for a long time.

The second conclusion that I came up with is this: I am a racist. I do not mean to be, and for this I apologize to anyone that I might have disenfranchised during my walk on this earth. This conclusion was the hardest for me to swallow, because I was one of the ones that got discriminated against. I grew up in a family unit that is considered out of the norm - my mother is a lesbian and has lived with her other half for fifteen years. That is right, I have two mothers and no fathers. For this I got ridiculed and beaten all throughout grade school and middle school.
