The more Replublicans howl the more we know that their candacies are in serious trouble. Gone are their days of a rubber stamp Congress and the Bush Dribbled On Economics. Now if they hope to have curb appeal among Independents (like myself) they're going to have to get off their social values soapbox and tackle the tough issues i.e. helping folks get a job where they can afford a house, two cars with children; sending their kids to college w/o going into a mountain of debt; enduring a medical catastrophe w/o going bankrupt. Republicans need to wake up and realize that social values are hard to digest on an empty stomach :(

if you kow any thing about genetics then you should know that the color white dominates black. so far into the future the way we are headed there will be no real blacks. and if blacks do dominate and control this country the people that have the money will surely leave when they get tired of all the free hand outs you people keep begging for.

Gore and McCain (so far) made mirror image mistakes. Gore distanced himself from the most effective Presidency in recent history, while McCain linked himself to the least.

The Polls indicate just how uneducated Americans are when it comes to being informed about their leadership. Comments like "do you want more of the last 8 years" show a particular lack of intelligence. Were there no Democrats in Washington for the past 8 years? Both parties created the current crisis over the last 20 years. Get informed and vote for fiscal responsibility. The other issues pale in significance.

actually my thought is if the ast 8 yrs have been bad then why did bush get reelected by a higher margin than his first election?.The president is a figure head, the last two years the congress has been controlled by a very liberal person and a democratic majority and have things gotten better??? So why is every one going to reiforce their lead wth giving them the senate and the white house. I wanted to believe in Obama two years ago when he first stared campaigning but there has been way too many issues that I feel go against my core values and I can no longer with good conciousness vote for hm, John McCain wasnt my first choice, Iwould've loved to see what guiliani wanted to do with the country, but i feel that for my childrens future, security and well being he is the only choice. As to the ecomony I am a stay at home mom with 3 kids and i am in college also, my husband is the only bread winner and we only last year finally made more than 40k yet I dont want a handout, I want to know I'll have a job when i graduated and that doesnt come from spreading the weath.

Everyone has something to say about Obama, about who he and what he stands for and his friend. I have nothing against John McCain other than he picked a very unqualified, unproven person to be his Vice Presidential running mate. The Republicans has always been and will forever be for big business. They do not have the middle class working family at heart and those are the people who make up the majority of the population in America. Many people do not want to vote for Obama because of fear of change. Most people do not like change. I for one am one of them. However, I am for someone who does not spew out the same on political rhetoric as usual, who offers very viable solutions to the problems that are plaguing America today. We have seen what 8 years of Republican politics can do and it's not pretty. Opinions are like belly buttons, everybody has one. Let's stop attacking the candidates with our personal opinions and look at the issues at hand and vote for the person who you think can improve the welfare of the country. Great that John McCain served his country and he was a POW and he survived. Great for him. But that doesn't make him a better candidate than Obama. When Clinton left the White House, this country was no longer in a deficit. What took Clinton 8 years to accomplish, Bush put the country back in a hole within 8 months of his presidency. We have started a war that cannot be won. Millions of taxpayers dollars have been poured into Iraq and Afghanistan not to mention thousands of troops dying daily. And what have we really accomplished over there? Absolutely nothing at all. It is time to invest in America and it's citizens. THAT IS WHY I AM VOTING OBAMA/BIDEN ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Posted By: sodacat231 @ 10/29/2008 9:42:33 PM

I find it somewhat humorous when individuals state the John McCain picked an unqualified candidate, unproven person as his VP Candidate and then in the same breath they state they are voting for Obama who is running for President, the highest office, not VP, but President. Obama who has less qualifications than Palen. Obama who has never been an executive nor ever made an executive decision, but your willing to accept his non-qualifications in the highest office but balk at Palin's qualifications for VP.

As for Republicans and big business, yes you are particially correct. If I recall Pres Clinton raised taxes on the Middle class in 1993 from 31% to 36% for any couple making over 140,000. Kennedy is the only Democratic President in our lifetime that has cut taxes on the Middle Class. Bush's Tax cuts went also to the Middle Class:
the 15% bracket's to 36% bracket were lowered 4-5% each
The rich, top 5%, the 39.6% bracket lowered to 35%

The President has little to do with what policies get passed. The President recommends policies, Congress legislates those policies. Since the Democrats have taken control two years ago, we have seen a Mortgage crisis, energy crisis, and now a complete financial crisis.

I am not voting for Obama for several reasons, and its not because I am afraid of change. Change occurs in this country everytime we elect a new official to government office. Some of their changes are good and some are not so good. So throwing the word Change around doesn't mean a thing if you do not understand or know what that change could lead to. I voted for Carter, because I wanted "Change". Young and naive to believe that word meant good. We ended up with the worst inflation in my lifetime. Obama's policies are verbatum of Carter's.

Clinton, yes did have a surplus and he also had Rep Congress.

Although Pres Bush has made blundereds, people do not give the man credit where credit is due. If it were not for his economic stimulas at the time 9/11 happened this economy would have crumbled. Despite that and two wars we have come through with lower than average unemployment, economic growth, far higher than most of the world. And yes, there hasn't been another terrorist attack on our land either.

You really haven't stated one thing that Obama has accomplished. Every policy he talks about is introduced and passed through Congress. Ask yourself why is it that he has not introduced legislation for Healthcare, Tax Cuts, etc.? Congress hasn't accomplished a darn thing in 8 years. If you want to blame someone for our economic whoas then don't look to Bush. Congress makes and passes legislation and for the past two years the Democrats have been at the helm.

Right now we have too many complex situations that need to be dealt with, and the last thing we need it a President that will need on the job training. A candidate that has NO executive experience.

Barack will stab a knife in the heart of America. It will be a very sad day if he should win. As far as the "CHANGE" you want...be careful, you might just get what you asked for. The guy is a proven liar, does not give a hoot in hell about this country, raised on walfare and believes that it is a great system.

Republicans do not equal fiscal responsibility because Bush's politics have spent billions in this "war" in Iraq. Don't forget the money spent on war by his father and Reagan. Imagine if every American received a share of this money. Fiscal responsibility? Whatever! Republicans, practice what you preach!

    • Posted By: libswillsellusout @ 10/29/2008 9:23:59 PM

Fiscal responsiblity? Why dont you research the ties Barack Obama and his "community organizer" group ACORN have to the Fannie/Freddie meltdowns. Giving thousands of crappy mortgages out to lazy people whop can't afford them surely seems like a stupid idea in hindsight, doesn't it? How about having the foresight? John McCain warned of this! Do a little digging, the liberal media can't be trusted to bring you actual facts when they are deeply in love with Barack Obama...

Imagine if every American had a shared of the $700 billion dolar bailout (not to mention the additional billions served up, which was not included in the $700 billion), which was a direct cause of bad Clinton policies and corrupt Democrats in cooperation with Fanny and Freddy, which blocked any kind of reform (attemped by the Republicans numerous times) to these criminal institutions.

I would rather see the 700B refunded to every taxpayer out there. I repeat every TAXPAYER! Not every citizen or illegal alien! All of Obama's associates are radicals, anarchists, anti-americans, and middle easterners. Did we forget 9/11? How is this getting past Americans? Obama wants to disarm America, both militarily and personally by reducing nukes and missle defense systems (video on internet of him saying it), and by greatly reducing the taxes on guns and ammo, and making it a crime to kill home invaders in self defense (look at voting record). Why would an American President want to do this? Put 2 and 2 together people! Obama is the company he keeps. The radical Muslims and terrorists have an ally (he wants to unconditionally meet with them - see debates) in Barack HUSSEIN Osama. Why would you take a HUGE gamble voting for this shady character (hides his real birth certificate from the press, has order the L.A. Times not to release video and or audio of a dinner meeting he has 6 MONTHS AGO (recently) with Bill Ayers and Pakistani Khalledi where they spoke of Isreal being the problem rather than the victim! Folks, if you know anything about the end times prophecies of the Bible, when Isreal goes, we all go. Are Americans blind?! WAKE UP and vote for a real AMERICAN HERO in John McCain (American Prisoner of War, who fought for our country, why would he ever hurt it?). If your excuse is that you are afraid Palin will inherit the White House and she has no experience, what do you think Obama has? Palin has more executive (the kind you need to run a government) experience than any of the other 3 running, and she has ALREADY done an incredible job of fighting the status quo and the "good ol' boy network" (an actual record, can you say EXPERIENCE!). Obama has mere months in the Senate, and has done NOTHING of any merit as a senator. Obama is a good orator, and it ends there. Christian African Americans voting for Obama should be ashamed of themselves. You are dropping morals in favor of skin color. Obama is the most liberal on abortion, supporting partial birth abortions, and no medical treatment of live birth botched abortions (he would rather they suffer and die with no medical treatment- check his stances if you dont believe me, there is proof all over the internet, in his own words). He dismisses the live, mutilated babies as "pre-viable fetuses" and as "temporarily alive" (his own terms) SHAME SHAME SHAME! What has happened to America? WAKE UP before it's too late!!!!!!!

For all you Obama voters out there, thank you
Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read ' Vote Obama, I need the money .' I laughed.
Once in the restaurant my server had on a ' Obama 08 ' tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence.
When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.
I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.
At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more.
I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.

If Obama is elected; it destroys the American Dream, ruins the hopes of us working hard, starting our own businesses & creating jobs. Why should we continue to pay for those that do not work hard and just take advantage of the system. I believe people are the creators of their own destiny. Do the right things, meet the right people, work as hard and as smart as you can and you WILL be successful. Vote for McCain, vote for your rights, and your dignity.

      Redistribution of Wealth in Alaska
      October 22, 2008, 4:18PM

There is a lot being made by the McCain Palin campaign about the redistribution of wealth as proposed by the Obama tax plan. What seems to have gone unquestioned in the discussion on this question is the redistribution of wealth that occurs in the State of Alaska. This year every man, woman, and child that is a resident of Alaska will receive a redistribution of wealth from taxes on oil revenues of over $3000 each. A family of four will receive a distribution of over $13000. Palin, was apparently instrumental in increasing that distribution this year by about $1200 a person. It is noteworth that Alaskan's do not pay income or sales tax.
      http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/blogs/svjim/2008/10/redistribution-of-wealth-in-al.php

Didn't Palin Redistribute Wealth in Alaska?
      October 27, 2008, 3:58PM

Didn't she increase taxes on the oil companies and give part of the money to Alaskans?
Palin's windfall tax will fund a $1,200 "rebate" that Alaska will give to every eligible man, woman and child in Alaska, to help offset soaring fuel prices. That money will be dispersed as part of larger, $3,269 check that Alaskans will receive that was paid for by state taxes on oil companies - a family of four will receive a check for $13,076. The fuel rebates will cost the state $750 million.

In October 2007 Palin rolled out a tax increase plan on oil companies operating in Alaska, including a windfall profits tax. Palin's plan, called the "Alaska's Clear and Equitable Share" (ACES) plan, was approved by the state Legislature and includes:
      · Raising the state's current net profits tax on North Slope oil from a 22.5% to 25.0% base.
      · A "progressive" windfall profits tax: When oil prices rise above about $50 a barrel, the tax rate increases by 0.2% for each additional dollar a barrel.
Palin said, "The state of Alaska is currently the largest investor on the North Slope, having paid for 50 percent of all investments in 2007. Yet our share of net revenue, including royalties, property and corporate income tax, was about 40 percent. The "equitable share" component in ACES narrows this gap..."

      WEALTH RE-DISTRIBUTION IN ALASKA.........

      Let's see. There's how many Palins, 7.

      So 7 * $3,269 = $22,883

Quite a payday for the Palin family, for doing absolutely nothing.

      Are they collecting welfare?

Something that most people don't like is negative campaigning, but if you have kept up with the hupla from the start, Mccain kept talking about staying with what Bush has been doing for 8 years and Palin has been slinging dirt. So when that didn't work, Mccain started copying Obama and saying the exact thing Obama has been saying from the start. Dave, South Carolina

Wake up people. Stop following Obama like a bunch of lemmings. This guy is going to sell this country down the river. When he visited the foreign countries that someone aptly noted that he was well received and was changing the attitudes of the people toward the US, out of respect for their traditions or religion he wore their ceremonial garb; however, in our own country he dishonored our flag without any hesitation. How can you trust him as the next president and commander-in-chief when he displays that kind of patriotism. My advice is to forget the stock market and buy more bullets. If Obama gets elected, you will need them to protect your home and families.

How do you figure that McCain is a hero? He graduated 894 out of 899, he crashed four very expensive fighter planes ( not in combat situations) before he was shot down. How about all of the other Vietnam vets who were held captive? I haven't heard them using that experience to get elected to live off the taxpayers the rest of their lives.

You Republicans and Democrats are all a bunch of morons and hypocrites. Both advocate the power of the state over the rights of individuals. Both overspend. Democrats tax the current generation and spend, Republicans tax the NEXT generation (through deficits) and spend.

I refuse to vote because it is usually (unless it is a referendum) a useless and futile exercise in self-deception. The system is corrupt and broken and needs replaced, not reformed. It cannot be changed or reformed; in fact the political system is wired to be self-correcting against attempts at reformed. And I am not just referring to the difficulty in amending the Constitution; I'm referring to the institutional power of Congressmen of seniority on committees to crush newly-elected reformers.

The second reason I refuse to vote is because doing so is an implicit endorsement of the corrupt system, and doing so aids in the appearance of legitimacy. That is why the people in power are always advocating to get out the vote: they want their "plutocracy-by-proxy" to appear legitimate.

I watch what is going on in politics for the same reason I watch the ocean when I am in the water wave-jumping: not because I think I can change the ocean, but so I know which direction to swim in so the wave doesn't break on me.

I'm going to hunker down on my little patch of dirt that I own, growing my own food, having my own energy source (solar panels) in the near future, and watch and ride out the chaos that is coming that neither Obama nor McCain will be able to prevent.

And actually watching and understanding how stupid and irrational people are in general can be very useful... I looked at houses in 2005 and said "No". Bought a house this year. Before the stocks tanked, I rolled all money 401K from stocks to money market--pulled some out for down payment. With 401K back in stocks as of Oct 20, I will recoup my house downpayment by the time the S&P 500 reaches where it was when I shifted my 401K to cash.

I can understand your frustration. It is sad that this political system is so corrupted! We just can't trust any politicans. however, I believe voting is our responsibility. I've been voting for 12 years now and never regretted that I did because I've exercised my right to fair and sensible judgement. we're not just voting for the politicans, we're also voting out the absurdity of the supporters. I've always found it amusing to see all these different opinions from supporters of the opposing parties. some comments are sensible and logical, but some are downright ludicrous that are absolutely blind prejudice.
we can't live like hermits. even the amish are now foced to mingled with the outside world to a certain extent. we just have to exercise our best judgement and to hope for the best.

      • Posted By: sodacat231 @ 10/29/2008 8:14:48 PM

Yes, both parties and far from perfect. But what is more irresponsible than some of those politicians is the fact that every American Citizen does not exercise their right to vote in this country. We saw the Iraqi people walk miles upon miles, risking their lives to exercise that new found freedom to vote and in this country that right is ignored by too many. Just give up and wait for things to change?! Excuse your complacency by whining that you don???t have the power to challenge wrongdoing? Don???t rise above what???s wrong and fight it? Complacency can lead to Dictatorship while you're out there whinning rather than participating. No its not perfect, but this is the greatest country in the world and millions stand in line, not weeks or months, but several years to have the opportunities that you are taking for granted. I wonder, when they are gone, will you look back and wish those two parties, although not perfect, were back.
I say if you don't vote, then you really have no right to complain about our government.

Otherwise you have no right to complain!!!

To jpepper---White Americans are not the only humans which are prejudiced in some way. I would guess that a larger percentage of white Americans are voting for Obama as compared to the percentage of black Americans voting for McCain. Does that mean that black Americans are more prejudiced than white Americans? I don't think so, but everyone has their prejudicial instincts--not just white folks.

I live in one of the "swing states" that has early voting, and I can tell you--those who are voting early, some for the very first time, are not voting for McCain/Palin. It's a shame what the Republican ticket feels is appropriate campaigning--no focus on what they can do for the country, but instead, slamming their opponents. Yes I am a registered Republican, pro-life all the way, but I voted for Obama today. For one, think of how long Republicans have had control of the White House (the past 8 years especially), and nothing has changed regarding abortion--nothing. And sadly, it probably won't. In Obama, I see a man who offers concise ideas to many who are suffering, clear economic and military plans, and a more hopeful future for my child. Shame on McCain & Palin for professing Christian beliefs (although McCain has never come out and defined his true beliefs--look it up), yet behaving in such a manner that does not represent the love that Jesus teaches. I look forward to a different country under Obama's leadership.

jrbaker, your post was a good one. It shows some solid thinking. I think you will realize some of your objectives on the abortion issue under an Obama presidency, but not in the way you perhaps expect. I think Obama is for women's choice, but I think he also wants to work to find ways to avoid any need for abortions. He will work for ways to solve problems such as this to everyone's satisfaction and that is far better than this divided approach we have in the country right now.

DMBCOM, i dont consider myself a republican so much as a conservative. I think people also need to wake up and realize that every person in this country is capable of living the American Dream, but it is not the government who is going to fix our messes. In no way am I wealthy, or even middle class. I work 12-14 hours a day and make a modest living ($800/week), but I do not expect nor want the government to pay for my health care issues as I have a heart problem since birth, nor do I expect them to bail me out of my depreciating house, nor do I expect them to pay for my wife???s cancer bills, nor do I expect them to pay for my childs college. I think this is a fundamental problem for America that started many years ago. We all need to realize that we are the ones ultimately responsible for our lives, not the government and thank goodness for that. I hope and pray everday that my child knows that he is capable of everything and anything but he himself is the only one who can make that dream happen.

Face it, the Religious Right's reign over this country has come to an end. Their lies and hipocracy no longer carry any weight. Go on home and order some Dominos Pizza. No one is listening to you anymore.

No, I feel the BIGGEST would still have to be electing McCain with Palin hoping he doesn't last 4 years but wouldn't know what to do if she gets her wish.

Let's face it the republicans have a VP that WANTS to be president. The best McCain can say is she is a maverick. She has turned on McCain faster than he can say "My fellow POW's." By the look of things, she is not even waiting for THIS election to end and she has already started looking at 2012. She really is an outsider.and not in a good way.
