McLady doth protest too much.
McLady doth protest too much.
The forum was great! for the first time, I can compare and contrast the candidate on the same topics and with the same questiosns covering taxes, faith, foreign affairs and judicial thinking. I like the non-gotcha questions and the non-tabloid like..."..we have you on tape saying this and that...". I think the Obama camp perceived their candidate as doing bad so they are now attacking the event as being unfair. I thought that Obama came across as expected. He's never really that great at one on one but excellent on stage doing a speech. However, Mccain surpassed expectation because his townhall hasn't exactly being televised end to end ever on any of the networks. I tried to watch them on the net and Mccain is exactly as he was at the forum so it was not a surprise to me. At the end of the day, Mccain came across as who he is and said directly what he believes. Like him or hate him, at least you know where he stands on hard issues. Obama on the other hand still appears to be a man in search of principle positions and in search of solid stands on hard issues. They are very different and we all have a clear choice to make in november.
Well although i hope Obama wins the nomination, i still think McCain just was more clear with his message. Obama tried to reach out to both parties by reasoning why he was for abortion but went little too far with the facts. And same goes for McCain and his tax issue. Obama stuck to being broad range and hasnt stood his ground firmly. He is trying to unite or attract both parties, but is sacrificing some of his own parties votes by being too broad. Finally, after all the hoop-la about 'cone of silence' McCain still impressed.
One thing though, when it comes to attracting religious voters and getting them behind oneself, who better than a republican to attract? And i dont doubt, that the gay and abortion factor wins them by a landslide, even after Bush's agenda to use it distract America from the War and outfox Kerry.
Democratic candidates, being termed liberal always have to wait till the last day to get unified voters since there is always hesitancy. I wont underestimate the uniqueness of this election with Barack and Hillary, but still they need to unite much earlier just like the Republicans did.
McCain Protests NBC Coverage
Politico by Mike Allen Aug. 17, 2008
McCain's campaign manager Rick Davis asked Sunday for a meeting with Steve Capus, the president of NBC News, to protest what the campaign called signs that the network is "abandoning non-partisan coverage of the Presidential race."
Davis made the request Sunday in a letter that is part of an aggressive effort by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to counter news coverage he considers critical.
Politico has asked NBC for a response and will post that here when it arrives.
In this case, the campaign is objecting to a statement by NBC's Andrea Mitchell on "Meet the Press" questioning whether McCain might have gotten a heads-up on some of the questions that were asked of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), who was the first candidate to be interviewed Saturday night by Pastor Rick Warren at a presidential forum on faith.
Warren told the audience that McCain was being held in "a cone of silence" so he wouldn't hear the questions, which were similar for both candidates.
Warren referred again to "the cone of silence" when McCain came onstage, and the senator joked: "I was trying to hear through the wall."
Mitchell reported that some "Obama people" were suggesting "that McCain may not have been in the cone of silence and may have had some ability to overhear what the questions were to Obama. He seemed so well prepared."
A McCain aide said that is not the case: "Senator McCain was in a motorcade led by the United States Secret Service and held in a green room with no broadcast feed."
Here is the text of the letter:
August 17, 2008
Mr. Steve Capus
President, NBC News
30 Rockefeller Plaza
New York, NY 10112
Steve:
We are extremely disappointed to see that the level of objectivity at NBC News has fallen so low that reporters are now giving voice to unsubstantiated, partisan claims in order to undercut John McCain.
Nowhere was this more evident than with NBC chief correspondent Andrea Mitchell's comments on "Meet the Press" this morning. In analyzing last night's presidential forum at Saddleback Church, Mitchell expressed the Obama campaign spin that John McCain could only have done so well last night because he "may not have been in the cone of silence and may have had some ability to overhear what the questions were to Obama." Here are Andrea Mitchell's comments in full:
Mitchell: "The Obama people must feel that he didn't do quite as well as they might have wanted to in that context, because what they are putting out privately is that McCain may not have been in the cone of silence and may have had some ability to overhear what the questions were to Obama. He seemed so well-prepared." (NBC's "Meet The Press," 8/17/08)
Make no mistake: This is a serious charge. Andrea Mitchell is repeating, uncritically, a completely unsubstantiated Obama campaign claim that John McCain somehow cheated in last night's forum at Saddleback Church. Instead of trying to substantiate this blatant falsehood in any way, Andrea Mitchell felt that she needed to repeat it on air to millions of "Meet the Press" viewers with no indication that 1.) There's not one shred of evidence that it's true; 2.) In his official correspondence to both campaigns, Pastor Rick Warren provided both candidates with information regarding the topic areas to be covered, which Barack Obama acknowledged during the forum when asked about Pastor Warren's idea of an emergency plan for orphans and Obama said, "I cheated a little bit. I actually looked at this idea ahead of time, and I think it is a great idea;" 3.) John McCain actually requested that he and Barack Obama do the forum together on stage at the same time, making these kinds of after-the-fact complaints moot.
Cindy McCain's Denied Half Sister Part 2
Source: www.npr.org
Documents show Kathleen Anne Hensley was born to Jim and Mary Jeanne Hensley on Feb. 23, 1943. They had been married for six years when Kathleen was born.
Jim Hensley was a bombardier on a B-17, flying over Europe during World War II.
He was injured and sent to a facility in West Virginia to recuperate. During that time, while still married to Mary Jeanne, Hensley met another woman ??? Marguerite Smith. Jim divorced Mary Jeanne and married Marguerite in 1945.
Cindy Lou Hensley was born nine years later, in 1954.
She may have grown up as an only child, but so did her half sister, Kathleen, who was raised by a single parent.
Portalski says she did see her father and her half sister from time to time.
"I saw him a few times a year," she says. "I saw him at Christmas and birthdays, and he provided money for school clothes, and he called occasionally."
Jim Hensley also provided credit cards and college tuition for his grandchildren, as well as $10,000 gifts to Kathleen and her husband, Stanley Portalski. That lasted a decade, they say. By then, Jim Hensley had built Hensley and Co. into one of the largest beer distributorships in the country. He was worth tens, if not hundreds, of millions of dollars.
Sole Inheritor To Hensley's Estate
When Hensley died in 2000, his will named not only Portalski but also a daughter of his wife Marguerite from her earlier marriage. So, Cindy McCain may be the only product of Jim and Marguerite's marriage, but she is not the only child of either.
She was, however, the sole inheritor of his considerable estate.
Kathleen Portalski was left $10,000, and her children were left nothing. It's a fact Nicholas Portalski says his sister discovered the hard way.
"What she found in town ??? on the day of or the day before or the day after his funeral ??? was that the credit card didn't work anymore," Nick says.
The Portalskis live in a modest home in central Phoenix. Kathleen is retired, as is her husband. Nicholas Portalski is a firefighter and emergency medical technician looking for work.
They say it would have been nice if they were left some of the Hensley fortune.
They also say they are Democrats, but Nicholas Portalski says he had another reason for coming forward.
"The fact that we don't exist," he says. "The fact that we've never been recognized, and then Cindy has to put such a fine point on it by saying something that's not true. Recently, again and again. It's just very, very hurtful."
Kathleen Portalski says she'd like an acknowledgment and an apology.
NPR asked the McCain campaign ??? specifically, Cindy McCain ??? to comment or respond. Neither replied.
NPR: Cindy McCain's Half Sister 'Angry' She's Hidden
Kathleen Hensley Portalski displays newspaper clippings of her father in World War II, as well as snapshots of herself as a child with her father.
Portalski is shown with her late father, Jim Hensley, who also was Cindy McCain's father.
Nicholas Portalski, whose mother is Cindy McCain's HALF SISTER, says it's "VERY, VERY HURTFUL" that he and his mother haven't been recognized.
All Things Considered, August 18, 2008 · Last Tuesday, NPR broadcast a story about Cindy McCain's business and charity work. In it, Ted Robbins described McCain as the only child of Jim Hensley, a wealthy Arizona businessman. The next morning, NPR received an e-mail from Nicholas Portalski of Phoenix, who heard the story with his mother.
"We were listening to the piece about Cindy McCain on NPR, All Things Considered, and it just struck us very hard," Portalski said.
His mother, Kathleen Hensley Portalski, is also Hensley's daughter.
The Portalski family is accustomed to hearing Cindy McCain described as Hensley's only child.
She's been described that way by news organizations from The New Yorker and The New York Times to Newsweek and ABC.
McCain herself routinely uses the phrase "ONLY CHILD," as she did on CNN LAST MONTH. "I grew up with my dad," she said then. "I'm an ONLY CHILD. My father was a cowboy, and he really loved me very much, but I think he wanted a son occasionally."
A little history about Obamas birds of a feather . . .his friends, peers, political partners. Good judgment on Obamas part as to the company he has kept over the years.
GRIM PROVING GROUND FOR OBAMAS HOUSING POLICY
PART I
The candidate (Obama) endorsed federal subsidies for private entrepreneurs to build low-income units. But, while he garnered support from developers, many projects in his former district have fallen into disrepair.

CHICAGO - The squat brick buildings of GROVE PARC PLAZA, in a dense neighborhood that Barack OBAMA REPRESENTED for eight years as a state senator, hold 504 apartments subsidized by the federal government for people who cannot afford to live anywhere else. But it is NOT SAFE to live here.
About 99 of the units are vacant, many rendered uninhabitable by unfixed problems, such as COLLAPSED ROOFS and fire damage. Mice scamper through the halls. Battered mailboxes hang open. SEWAGE BACKS UP INTO KITCHEN SINKS. In 2006, federal inspectors graded the condition of the complex an 11 on a 100-point scale - a score so bad the buildings now face demolition.
Grove Parc has become a symbol for some in Chicago of the broader FAILURES of giving public subsidies to private companies to build and manage affordable housing - an approach STRONGLY BACKED BY OBAMA as the best replacement for public housing.
As a state senator, OBAMA COAUTHORED an ILLINOIS LAW creating a new POOL OF TAX CREDITS for private developers. As a US senator, he pressed for increased Federal subsidies. And as a presidential candidate, he has campaigned on a PROMISE TO CREATE AN AFFORDABLE HOUSING TRUST FUND that could give developers an estimated $500 million a year.
But a Globe review found that THOUSANDS OF APARTMENTS across Chicago that had been built with local, state, and federal subsidies - including SEVERAL HUNDRED IN OBAMAS FORMER DISTRICT - deteriorated so completely that they were no longer habitable.

PART II
Grove Parc and several other prominent failures were developed and managed by Obamas close friends and political supporters. (Everyone remembers Obamas friend Antoine TONY Rezko). Those people (Obamas friends) PROFITED FROM THE SUBSIDIES even as many of Obamas constituents suffered. Tenants lost their homes; surrounding neighborhoods were blighted.
Some of the residents of Grove Parc say they are angry that Obama did not notice their plight. The development straddles the boundary of Obamas state Senate district. Many of the tenants have been his constituents for more than a decade.(But Obama ignored this plight).
No one should have to live like this, and no one did anything about it, said Cynthia Ashley, who has lived at Grove Parc since 1994. Obamas campaign, in a written response to Globe questions, affirmed the candidates support of public-private partnerships as an alternative to public housing, saying that Obama has consistently fought to make livable, affordable housing in mixed-income neighborhoods available to all (yeah right, but once built, left to plight). The campaign did not respond to questions about whether Obama was aware of the problems with buildings in his district during his time as a state senator, nor did it comment on the roles played by people connected to the senator.
Among those tied to Obama POLITICALLY, PERSONALLY, OR PROFESSIONALLY are: VALERIE JARRETT, a senior adviser to Obamas presidential campaign and a member of his finance committee. Jarrett is the chief executive of Habitat Co., which MANAGED GROVE PARC PLAZA FROM 2001 UNTIL THIS WINTER and CO-MANAGED an even larger subsidized complex in Chicago that was seized by the federal government in 2006, after city inspectors found widespread problems (yeah, right, I am sure Obama did not know about these rundown subsidized complexes).
Allison Davis, a major FUND-RAISER for Obamas US Senate campaign and a former lead partner at Obamas former law firm. Davis, a DEVELOPER, WAS INVOLVED IN THE CREATION OF GROVE PARC AND HAS USED GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES to rehabilitate more than 1,500 units in Chicago, including a North Side building cited by city inspectors last year after chronic plumbing failures resulted in raw sewage spilling into several apartments.
TONY REZKO, perhaps the most important fund-raiser for Obamas early political campaigns and a FRIEND who helped the Obamas buy a home in 2005.

PART III
Rezkos company USED SUBSIDIES TO REHABILITATE MORE THAN 1,000 APARTMENTS, mostly in and around Obama's district, then REFUSED TO MANAGE the units, leaving the buildings to decay to the point where many no longer were habitable.
Campaign finance records show that six prominent developers - including JARRETT, DAVIS, and REZKO - collectively contributed more than $175,000 to Obamas campaigns over the last decade and raised hundreds of thousands more from other donors. Rezko alone raised at least $200,000, by Obamas own accounting.
One of those contributors, CECIL BUTLER, controlled Lawndale Restoration, the largest SUBSIDIZED COMPLEX in Chicago, which was SEIZED by the government in 2006 after city inspectors found more than 1,800 code violations. Butler and Davis did not respond to messages. REZKO IS IN PRISON; his lawyer did not respond to inquiries.

Politics and religion are so intertwined that they are practically inseperable. Americans may not understand science too well but boy!!! they sure know their Bible. (recent statistics put Americans 35th in the world as far as a general understanding of science is concerned. But then again, who needs science? Especially after "Armageddon" when all of the over-dogmatized Amercan "elect"of the "religious right" will be "raptured" up to "heaven".
Why not just get it over with; get your "rapture" taken care of; and leave legislating morals and moral behaviour to the rest of us "pagans" who will be left to take care of this world after you leave.
We don't need freedom "of" religion: We need freedom from religion.
-Brian Leslie Engler
Excellent post! America is also the ONLY developed nation where a majority of its people still question Darwin's theory of evolution. I thought that was put to rest in the 1920s after the Scopes Monkey Trials, but apparently the Dark Age Revival of the Religious Right has reared its ignorant head and invluenced a significant portion of the populace.
It's truly scary that our electorate is this poorly educated. It makes me wonder if it's truly worth having a so-called "democracy" any longer since they seem to think it's okay for their "religious" politicians to cheat, bribe and steal votes to win the White House - all in the name of God, pro-Life and anti-Gay Marriage.
Deep? I think not. Just the opposite. A land of lunatics thumping bibles in the face of facts and science.
Reality: Saddleback Will Not Change Peoples Minds, when their Minds are Made up and don't Forget the Demographics Below.....

6. Most People have made up their MINDS...Sorry
7. Freedom of Religion, Agnostics, Atheist and People Indifferent Towards Religions, will not be MOVED by Saddleback...Sorry
Note: Newly Sworn In Americans from 10 Years back to the Most Present, will Overwhelmingly Vote for Obama. Afro Americans, Hispanic & Asian Americans will Overwhelmingly Vote for Obama.
Bi-Racial Americans ages 18 & Upwards will Vote for Obama.
Young White America 18-45, Male and Female will Vote for Obama in Large Numbers. The Highly Educated and Poor America, that Spans all Races.

Note Obama made 51 Million Dollars last Month, who do you think is Divying Up The Cash...Hmmmm
John McCain and Racist White America have Not Factored all these Demographics, at all and they will come back to Haunt him in November.
Underestimating Obama will Prove itself Real, this coming Novemeber, as a Very Big McCain Blunder.
(Lost in translation)The Fix Is In
Nevermind that McCain may have overheard Obama's answers. He didn't need to hear the answers, since he already had the questions. So did Obama. If you listen carefully, you'll hear irrefutable evidence that both candidates had advance knowledge of the questions.
Here are two specific examples:
Obama, when asked about the many millions of orphans available for adoption, said (I'm paraphrasing) "I have to admit I cheated on that question. I did some research."
McCain interjected the following (paraphrased) comment: "Are we going to get back to the appointment of Supreme Court Justices, or should we just move on?".
This was before he was asked the question.
You can't "get back" to a question you haven't yet been ask
It's quite common for journalists and interviewers to provide their guests with the questions in advance before the actual interivew. Both candidates had to have time to think about what they'd say and how they could respond. That's fair - it is cheating, however, to claim that neither candidate had a chance to hear the other's responses. That was false, as it turned out, and once again, the "loser" candidate - the most disadvantaged against Obama - had to cheat a bit in order to catch up and seem alert and on-message.
This is just typical - but my question is, WHY ARE WE FEELING SORRY FOR MEDIOCRE CANDIDATES AND VOTING FOR THEM OVER AND OVER AGAIN? If the GOP can't give us any really good, brilliant and deserving candidates for President, I'd say they're pretty much washed up for now and need to regroup and recruit some fresh new blood. They're really doing a piss-poor job if they have to RELY ON CHEATING AND LYING to help their campaign. That's just outright sad and it's too bad that so many Americans think it's fine and they're the best. That's even worse.
McCain's Broken Classics.....
#1 Hit: I told You "The Surge Would Work"
Note: As Though McCain Originated "The Surge" When in Fact "The Surge" is General McFarland's Military Strategy and it did not happen at Anbar, "The Surge" happened in (Bagdad) The Bloody Anbar Awakening Happened Almost a Year Before "The Surge" and General Petraeus was Not in Iraq, During "The Anbar Awakening" or "The Surge"...
The Anbar Awakening: Is the Crucial Turning Point in the Iraq War and without it, The Surge would still be at Day One and the Casualties Would still be Prevalent. Yet Semi-Senile John McCain has Projected himself as the Creater of "The Surge", as though, Mccain Concieved, Created and his "Surge Strategy" was Implemented by the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the President, based on Mccain's "Military Experience" when all He did was Sign on a Non-Partisan BandWagon to send an Additional 20,000 Troops....
Thats All McCain Did.
McCain Hit #2: "I know how to Win Wars"
Oh Really John ? Are you Counting Viet Nam as a WIN for America ? You were Locked Up and being Tortured Day & Night, Remember ? John, Name One Military Strategy that you had Concieved, Created and had Implemented by the President & his Joint Chiefs of Staff...
Please and Don't Mention "The Surge" I just Squashed that LIE
McCain Hit #3: "No Timetable for Withdrawal, Come Home in Victory"
What is a Victory to You John McCain ? The President of Iraq wants us OUT, The President of the USA is setting a "Time Horizon" and its been said, the Time Frame is (2010) Yet, We should Leave in Victory, Not Enough Dead Bodies, for you John ??
---------------------------------------
John McCain Hit #4: "The 4 1/2 Year Military Strategy Failed, Because it was a Poorly Planned & Poorly Executed"
McCain is Condemning Joint Chiefs Of Staff, The President, The Vice President, Himself, The Senators & Congressmen and Women who Voted on all the Military Strategies, leading up, to the "Surge" and Above all else the US Military Performed their Jobs Incompetently, Thats Exactly what he's saying...
Yet McCain Double Talks and Calls the U.S Military Honorable, Brave and Corageous..McCain has to Open his EYES WIDE and Accept that he was a Major Force in Voting 95% of the Time on the Iraq War and All Bush Military, Foreign and Domestic Policies....Fact
Rezko is in Prison, Obama was Never Chaged in this Case and You Yahoos continue to Chirp about NOTHING, as though this Case is (White Water) or the (Keating 10) SORRY, Obama is Not Involved in the Rezko case...
Rezko's Wife gave the obama's a Sweet Deal for a House and it was Not illegal...I'm So Sorry...
Wait a Minute, i'm very Glad to Dissapoint You yahoo Obama Haters.
Like you would would Turn Down a Sweet Home Purchase....Yeah Right...
It was Legal and thats that !!!
One of the biggest "bloopers" of this event it that it was not as Rev. Rick advertised. He said in many press releases that he wanted to talk about poverty, AIDS, climate change and human rights. Any one remember any questions about poverty or climate change (or human rights that didn't involve a fetus)? In addition:
"Warren said his conversations will focus on how the candidates will lead and make decisions rather than their positions on issues.
"Since the oath of the president is a commitment to protect the Constitution, it's critical to know how each candidate interprets the nature of its principles," Warren said.
"Leadership involves far more than promoting programs and making speeches, and since no one can predict what crises will happen over the next four years, it is vital to know the decision capacity and process of each man," he added
Instead, Warren zeroed in on the typical evangeligal agenda. It's a shame. I was really interested in learning how each candidate interprets the Constitution. Obama got in a line about the over-stepping of the Executive Branch in his answer about Supreme Court justices. But, for all I know, McCain thinks the Bush-Cheney view (the president IS the law) is just fine and dandy. Frankly, I feel dupped into watching by Rev. Rick. If I had known that he was only interested in the evangelical agenda, I wouldn't have wasted my time.
Good points, I too was looking for similar content. I was disappointed that the questions were so predictable. Abortion should really not even be an issue - I know it's a moral dilemma, but leave that to the would-be mothers and not the State to decide. The churches should not be mixing up with politics - it just seems odd that this one is so focused on the political agendas of each candidate. I don't trust the evangelicals - at least the majority of them who insist upon two or three tired issues: Right to Life and Marriage Between a Man and a Woman. Get over it - the world has a lot worse evils and problems than whether or not certain people are having sex and unwanted babies. I don't mean to make light, but it gets a little simple minded, to my view.
I'm against McCain for the simple reason that his health care plan will be a huge mess, if it ever gets passed. He wants to TAX us (those of us lucky enough to have jobs right now) on our employer-paid health care benefits, as if that were like a supplement to our income. So that's one MORE TAX we will get to pay. Then he will give us a tax credit and let us choose our own insurance plan - I guess this is to benefit the employers rather than the workers - so the employers don't have the "burden" of paying for our healthcare any longer - they can just give us a measly 3% raise, if we'er lucky, and consider our health care taken care of - coz NOW, with McCrass, we can pick our own provider -- OOOHHHH JOY!!! And that also benefits the insurance providers big-time.
So once again, we have a rich upper-crass American bigot telling us what to do with our measly incomes and when we can barely afford to make payments to cover our UNINSURED family members (who do not qualify as dependents), we now have to pay additional TAXES ON OUR HEALTH CARE COVERAGE from our employers - who also usually split the bill with us anyhow. It's not like they're all paying 100% of our health care - more likely it's 60-40% split.
I HATE THE REPUBLICANS. I am sick to death of them. I am very fortunate not to be among the very poor in this country, coz I can tell you they are the ones who really suffer under the GOP "leadership" (more like crass hoarding of any possible benefits for their own country club buddies).
McCrass should retire and get back to his one of his TEN VACATION HOMES that he owns around the country. He should play more golf with Bush Sr, the other crrass family legend that gave us "No New Taxes - Read My Lips" - a true highlight of our last 20 years in the political circus dominated largely by the GOP. ENOUGH ALREADY.
McCain cheated (again) at Saddleback.
Warren lied about "The cone of silence" AND about giving out questions.
McCain and Warren: Two dishonorable snake oil salesmen.
Just two more reasons Christians are voting for Obama! www.matthew25.org
We'll probably never know for sure if McCain had the questions ahead of time, BUT ...
Watching live, I had a definite "College Bowl" flashback when McCain was asked the question about merit pay for teachers. I swear he started his answer - "Yes, and find bad teachers another line of work" - before the question was finished.
For those of you too young to remember College Bowl, it was a game show that was on Sunday nights when I was a kid. There would be two panels of 4 students from two different schools each week. Each panelist had a button in front of them and the first to push the button after (or as) a question was asked got to give their answer. I used to think those kids were the smartest people alive. Then, one time, there was a curious episode where one of the teams was cutting off the question after two or three words. It was uncanny how they could know the answer to a question like "Name the ..." Well, it turned out that the producers had always been giving the teams the questions in advance (to make the show more entertaining, of course). This particular team had gamed the show by paying close attention to the question wording, finding unique wordings at the beginning of questions, and memorizing the correct answers. Technically, not cheating, but it sure burst my bubble.
Wow there are a lot of pharisees in this country. I love America, but a nation can be wrong when trying to do right. That is for both parties to figure out. God wants the truth, not political b/s. Some of the main people(christians) talking about this and that don't practice what our teaches(on either side). I don't love women having abortions, but that issue has been happening before Christ came into the world. Obama may not the best speaker, but he gave an honest answer to a lot of those questions. And it took courage to say what he said in front of those who did not want to hear that the US had evil in it's own borders, let alone outside of it. The bible gives many examples of when Israel disobeyed God and was punished as a nation.
He was right in saying that we need to reduce the number of abortions not only in this country, but world wide. Simply saying don't kill your child is not enough and scare tactics don't work either. Providing adequate (truthful) info, healthcare to women who othewise can not afford it, and true support (religious or otherwise) after the child is here is key. Most people on these web sites are full of themselves, not Christ or God.
Mightyrosebud it WAS a religious forum. Sorry, u should have known better.
McCain's answer to the first question Saturday night didn't pass the smile test.
"Who were [sic] the three wisest people that you know that you would rely on heavily in an administration?"
1. David Petraeus, Centcom Commander - In the United States, Senator, we have a little thing called civilian control of the military. I know it's hard for retired Captain McCain, USN, to adjust his thinking, but as President he would be Petraeus' boss, not the other way around. Lord knows, I wish my boss would listen to me sometimes, but most of the time I'd rather have clear direction that I can figure out how to realize. Whether you agree with him or not, Obama's pledge - "I will give our commanders in Iraq a new mission, to end this war" - is more in line with the Constitution.
2. John Lewis, Congressman (D-Georgia 5th) - Really, Senator? You noted that he was beaten and injured on the Selma march in 1965, but I doubt you were listening to John Lewis when you voted against a federal holiday for that other guy in that march (Martin Luther King, Jr.), or at any other time in your life. But, prove me wrong and invite him to speak at your convention! His speech at the 2004 DNC convention was really good, after all.
3. Meg Whitman, retired CEO of ebay - Brilliant! She did have that one really good idea we all wish for, namely how to use the internet to sell all our excess stuff, but could this have more to do with the facts that she's a big Republican donor and that she formerly supported Mitt Romney? I know, let's make her Secretary of DoGS (Department of Garage Sales); is that your secret plan for dealing with our record budget deficit?
Are you smiling? QED.
