Washington, D.C. ??? Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, said the organization is sending a copy of Sen. John McCain's voting record on women's health issues to Carly Fiorina, an adviser to the anti-choice candidate, who yesterday made a statement in direct conflict with McCain's position on birth control.

According to the Washington Post, during a discussion with reporters about women and health insurance, Fiorina said, "a real, live example which I've been hearing a lot about from women: There are many health insurance plans that will cover Viagra but won't cover birth-control medication. Those women would like a choice." [Washington Post, July 8, 2008]

Fiorina's comments are in direct contradiction with McCain's record. In fact, McCain voted against a proposal that would have required insurance companies to cover prescription contraception in the same way they pay for Viagra. [Clinton/Reid amendment to FY'06 Budget Resolution, S.Con.Res.18, 3/17/05.]

"If Carly Fiorina is so concerned about making sure women have choices that include coverage for birth control, then she should support the only presidential candidate who actually supports health insurance coverage for birth control... Barack Obama," Keenan said. "Women are concerned about health-care inequities???and that's why we are working to elect Sen. Barack Obama as the next president. Unlike McCain, who has voted against family planning 22 times, Sen. Obama supports legislation that would ensure fairness in insurance coverage for birth control, which represents one of the best ways to prevent unintended pregnancy and thus reduce the need for abortion. That's a clear difference between these candidates."

Little late for NARAL. They came out the day after Sen Clinton killed Obama in WV by 40pts. It was a planned surgical strike that turned off a great deal of women. And then barry thanked them by not accepting PAC money, so this is all keenan can do. You might want to check out barry's "100% voting record" in Illinois. Take particular note of his pesky "Present" vote. 100% voting record can mean 1 vote and NARAL has not outlined barry's votes. Why?

      • Posted By: chindognyc @ 08/20/2008 9:12:25 AM

Have you checked out Barry's Senate record? He has always supported women rights. Equal pay for women. McCain took the high road and I mean it. He was no where to be found. He did make a comment and said that voting for this would give women the right to make senseless lawsuits. McCain will have women back to the days of wearing an apron. These P.U.M.A. groups don't know what they are doing when they say they will vote for McCain so Hillary can run in 2012. Hillary already said she will not run again.

define ALWAYS in terns of concrete number of votes. barry's senate votes in IL were not in favor of NOW. He voted present when he shouid have made a stand. Shocking? Not. The proof is on NARAL's own website in the comment section. Go enlighten yourself.

I'd love to see some stats on insurance companies that don't cover birth control at all. I have never come across one. Is it that they won't cover ANY birth control, or that they will only cover cheaper, older forms like pills and shots? My health insurance doesn't cover ALL bc, but it does cover the ones that are fairly inexpensive. It would be interesting to find out that information.

pss Did I miss your apology to KellyB? You would regain a tad bit of respect if you did so. Some Clinton fans might even be swayed enough to vote for barry. Isn't that you goal? To make true your prediction in '06?

    • Posted By: katvan @ 08/20/2008 3:00:11 PM

never gonna happen. what kind of integrity did you expect from a *journalist* who is so clearly biased and still won't disclose it. At least it's clear he knows what a disclosure is and what it's for. KellyB went to author a different blog.

  • Posted By: Ozone @ 08/20/2008 12:58:07 PM

Mr. Alter, emblematic of the MSM, shows himself not to be the non-partisan he wants us to think he is. For example, he writes, "Obama had cancelled the visit [to injured troops] when it was clear that the Pentagon viewed it as political. The charge [that it was cancelled by Obama because he could not bring the press along] was simply untrue." In fact, Obama could have visited the troops if he didn't bring along his CAMPAIGN STAFF. As the NYTimes' Jeff Zeleny reported on their "Caucus" political blog on 7/25/08:

"Geoff Morrell, the Pentagon press secretary, issued a statement emphasizing that the Pentagon did not cancel Mr. Obama???s visit.

'Senator Obama, in his official capacity, is always welcome to visit Landstuhl or any other military hospital. But it is not permitted to bring with him campaign staff. His team was notified of that, and they made a decision not to visit the hospital. But we were ready and willing to host him there. In fact, we had made arrangements for his campaign plane to land at Ramstein, and to take care of the campaign staff and press in a passenger terminal there, while the senator and senate staff, if he liked, went on to visit wounded warriors. They made a decision based on their own calculations not to visit. Senator Obama, like any other member of the senate, is always welcome to visit our wounded warriors or our military hospitals around the world. But they do so in their official capacity, and not as a candidate. He can come in and bring senate staffers as well, if he likes, but campaign staffers and press are not permitted to accompany him. That would be a violation of DoD directives.' "

How come on the visits McCain had around the world SINCE he started running for POTUS, no memos were sent to embassies telling them not to help & the Pentagon didn't step in & make additional rules? Obama gets more restrictions, which probably doesn't bother him overly because he grew up 1/2 black & has endured such treatment before.

No that is not a race card, but it is the Jack-*** card for the duo of Tweedle Mc-D & Tweedle-Dub-ya?

      • Posted By: katvan @ 08/20/2008 2:56:47 PM

JURR: "doesn't bother him overly because he grew up 1/2 black & has endured such treatment before.

haha this is crazy. what would you know about being a biracial man running for president? And McCain wasn't making the rounds on an official campaign tour. Forget Landstuhl. It's indefensible. Period. And we hear he visited troops in Iraq but where is the evidence?

    • Posted By: Jurr @ 08/20/2008 1:04:10 PM

Obama wanted only to bring along a retired officer, leaving the reporters behind, only to be told by the Pentagon he could not. It's not that he didn't visit those troops, it's that McCain attacks Obama for not going, yet he himself didn't go visit those same troops earlier in the year when he was in Germany.

Stop clinging to your clinged on guns and Bibles you clinging clingers. Vote Democratic.

    • Posted By: Skallywag @ 08/20/2008 2:43:54 PM

I hope that all voters will vote in a democratic mannner, not just vote democrat. They should be using their brains instead of blindly following one political party or another just because they happen to be for or against one thing or another.. I for one will vote intelligently, because like the intellignet people, I may be for some of one parties ideals, and agains t others but what my personal beliefs may be, it probably isn't the governments business. BHO has told the people what they want to hear. Listen carefully to what he says and you will see through his smoke and mirror show. Remember, a certian little austrian corporal did the same back in the late 1920's, mesmerising the people he wanted to lead by telling them what they wanted to hear.. Look where he led them. Don't get your skivies in a bunch - I don't think we could go in the same drastic direction, but it is a lesson well learned if we are willing to learn. BHO talks some talk, but can he really walk the walk?
On the other hand, MCC had best be quiet. His verbal jabbs are ineffective and low powered. Intelligent people see them for the cheap shots that they are and realize he is as ineffective as GWB in many arenas (he can however pronounce "nuclear" correctly). I just hope that the delegates to both conventions look up,see the truth and give the American voters the truly best candidates run for office instead of these two clowns.

Barry. I am worried. That old frog has caught up with you. My dad says that you did not do well last Saturday on that religious guy's program. That you came accross as hesitant, unsure, aloof, eggheaded, unemotional, detached. Why are your answers so vague? Why all the hemming and hawing? When are you going to start showing more passion? Right now, I can't believe that you are not running away with this election. What with your superior secular and spiritual education. Why can't more Americans see that like Ms. Pelosi said that you are God's gift to America?

    • Posted By: Jurr @ 08/20/2008 12:20:21 PM

McCain aced that forum, but he was also tipped off to the questions. If you watch, McCain even answers some questions that had not been asked yet. He also did none of his usual stammering or repeating the questions to buy himself time and also he didn't have any evasions which of course is completely out of character for him, pretty suspicious. But hey, we know now his true colors, he will cheat & lie & steal when it suits his purposes.

      • Posted By: SPORTLOCK09 @ 08/20/2008 2:42:24 PM

With the liberal media ready to pounce at every opportunity and you twisting the facts to reflect poorly on him, why in the world would you expect this man not to reiterate the question before he answers it? Are you dumb or just stupid? He is a well thought out man who merely wants to answer the question taht has been asked. Unlike the way Obama wiggles and squirms and says I'll get to you shortly. Then never gets back to them. I'm still waiting for his answer on what he is going to do for the black community exclusively.

Hmmm. I am beginning to think that blogger chindognyc might be our long lost blogger (not really, maybe from her disappearance over the past few weeks or more) might be posting in disguise given this bloggers focus has always been on Carly Fiorina and the whole Pro-choice vs. Pro-life conversation she used to post for discussions in that past. I could be wrong. If so, so be it. But for anyone who cares, you might want to track her blogs.

    • Posted By: chindognyc @ 08/20/2008 8:56:05 AM

sharenews lol i'm a guy. I don't know who this blogger is, but sounds like I touched a nerve. I noticed you really don't have anything to say about my comments. Once again, I am not a female. I am a guy.

Sharenews likes to call bloggers someone else between pasting long, assiduous lies. He did that to me too. But honestly, I think Mr. Sharenews and ZombieHero are the same blogger. They both certainly share the victim towel.

I will along with John McCain Commander in Chief, your point? Neither one brings any unusual images to mind. So, what are you saying by your commentary? The more you try to be sarcastic, the worst you sound.

  • Posted By: LT Dan @ 08/20/2008 11:26:22 AM

We shouldn't be focusing on the Office of the President, but the do nothing Congress. The Dumbocrats really did a great job when they gained control.

    • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 08/20/2008 2:08:20 PM

You, and the majority of bloggers forget about the word filibuster provisions in congress and the ability to override a veto and what is necessary to do so.

  • Posted By: Driver of wagons @ 08/20/2008 10:55:03 AM

Oh yeah Zogby Himself said yesterday that his polling is some what antiquated due to the fact that he only uses land line phone interviews and it really leaves out a vast majority of younger and newly registered voters in which both groups have not opted for land lines. Which brings me exatly where I have always been on polls. They are only as good as who is paying to have them conducted and the only real poll that matters is the the one in November on the fourth of.

And next month the bullsh!t polls will have Hillary in front,....LMFAO

    • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 08/20/2008 2:06:33 PM

These are McCain's words in 2002. For all of you that don't see through the mud that McCain slings, or all the lies that he has spewed, read it for yourself.

"I didn't decide to run for President to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run campaign as if it was some grand act of patriotism.

I wanted to be President because it had become my ambition to become President.

I was 62 yold when I made the decision and I thought it was my one shot at the prize."

Again I say, McCain just wants the title, not the responsibilities.

  • Posted By: Cloudosmoke @ 08/20/2008 12:14:19 PM

Here's how McCain is working it. McCain will keep hammering his lies until its so far in that it looks reliable which will dissuade many people from voting because of his lies and their lack of knowledge. Hence, McCain is already practicing totalitarian propagandic apathy system. Suppress the votes, that's the only way to win.

I can understand why a Conservative votes for a Conservative but now that Bush has made a mockery of what the Conservative stands for, you still wish to remain. Go figure. Once a separatist, always a separatist.

  • Posted By: william111 @ 08/20/2008 12:05:00 PM

McCain has shown time and time again over the last seven years that, far from being an expert when it comes to foreign policy, he is frequently --- and dangerously -- clueless.
McCain also made a big mistake. When he was invited last spring to attend a discussion of the role of faith in his life with Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, at Messiah College in Pennsylvania, McCain didn't bother to show up. Now you know why.
John McCain is as intellectually shallow as our current president. When asked what his Christian faith means to him, his answer was a one-liner. "It means I'm saved and forgiven." Great scholars have wrestled with the meaning of faith for centuries. McCain then retold a story we've all heard a hundred times about a guard in Vietnam drawing a cross in the sand.

John McCain is running the same Karl Rove-style campaign that George W. Bush ran four years ago. He's avoiding issues and attempting to tear down Obama with personal attacks and fear mongering.

Not only has McCain voted with Bush 95% of the time, he's adopted the same political playbook. We've seen it all before, and we can't afford 4 or 8 more years of the same low road tactics and disastrous policies.

Knowing full well that Gas Prices will not be Effected, if the Oil Barons find oil today or 10 yrs from Today...

The Oil will go to Market...Period.

Mccain is playing up to the Simple mnded, who don't Know....

McCain has been AGAINST More OffShore Drilling and ANWR since his Senatorial Life began.

Now he's All for OffShore oil Drilling...Puh-Lease !!!

McCain lost me when he lied to Warren's forum with his cross story. He stole that from Solzhenitsin's "Gulag Archipel". For me that finishes him and brings him down to the level of Hillary's sniper fire. Why do politicians think they have the right to lie? I can never trust a person who lied once, because the next time I may not believe him, even when he is telling the truth.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 08/19/2008 1:33:07 PM

My guess is you were never a McCain fan. I'm not sure why some Obama supporters keep Hillary bashing long after the primaries are over. Obama needs Hillary supporters if he expects to win in November. Everyone knew that McCain would me much tougher on Obama than Hillary was. This is presidential politics.

Obama was deceptive with three of his answers especially the one where he said he worked with John McCain on campaign finance reform. That's another one where he flip flopped on his fellow senator because the party told him to. He is a puppet for Pelosi and the far left. Research it.

    McCain's Broken Classics.....

#1 Hit: I told You "The Surge Would Work"

Note: As Though McCain Originated "The Surge" When in Fact "The Surge" is General McFarland's Military Strategy and it did not happen at Anbar, "The Surge" happened in (Bagdad) The Bloody Anbar Awakening Happened Almost a Year Before "The Surge" and General Petraeus was Not in Iraq, During "The Anbar Awakening" or "The Surge"...

The Anbar Awakening: Is the Crucial Turning Point in the Iraq War and without it, The Surge would still be at Day One and the Casualties Would still be Prevalent. Yet Semi-Senile John McCain has Projected himself as the Creater of "The Surge", as though, Mccain Concieved, Created and his "Surge Strategy" was Implemented by the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the President, based on Mccain's "Military Experience" when all He did was Sign on a Non-Partisan BandWagon to send an Additional 20,000 Troops....

    Thats All McCain Did.

McCain Hit #2: "I know how to Win Wars"

Oh Really John ? Are you Counting Viet Nam as a WIN for America ? You were Locked Up and being Tortured Day & Night, Remember ? John, Name One Military Strategy that you had Concieved, Created and had Implemented by the President & his Joint Chiefs of Staff...

Please and Don't Mention "The Surge" I just Squashed that LIE

McCain Hit #3: "No Timetable for Withdrawal, Come Home in Victory"

What is a Victory to You John McCain ? The President of Iraq wants us OUT, The President of the USA is setting a "Time Horizon" and its been said, the Time Frame is (2010) Yet, We should Leave in Victory, Not Enough Dead Bodies, for you John ??
    ---------------------------------------

John McCain Hit #4: "The 4 1/2 Year Military Strategy Failed, Because it was a Poorly Planned & Poorly Executed"

McCain is Condemning Joint Chiefs Of Staff, The President, The Vice President, Himself, The Senators & Congressmen and Women who Voted on all the Military Strategies, leading up, to the "Surge" and Above all else the US Military Performed their Jobs Incompetently, Thats Exactly what he's saying...

Yet McCain Double Talks and Calls the U.S Military Honorable, Brave and Corageous..McCain has to Open his EYES WIDE and Accept that he was a Major Force in Voting 95% of the Time on the Iraq War and All Bush Military, Foreign and Domestic Policies....Fact
