McCain has had since February to hone his campaign skills. McCain has had since February to form his committees and since then has been throwing people under the bus. McCain has had since February to develop his platform which he has not.

He doesn't want to be president. If he really wanted to be president he would have made a better name for himself while he had the opportunity to do so while Obama was battling Hillary (you all remember the one that was supposed to win). McCain would have righted the wrongs on his VA stances, he would have had a chance to address voting for a war that was wrong and will go down in history in infamy.

McCain doesn't want to be president. He just wants the title. He wants the perks that come along with it. He just wants power.

He doesn't want to be president. If he wanted to be president, he would be giving speeches on the socioeconomic issues the country and world faces which is what the leader of the free world is supposed to do; not stand in front of a crowd of people that already has money looking for a photo op.

If he wanted to be president he would be describing his policy on energy instead of throwing out a gas tax holiday or say he'd throw money at someone to come up with a battery idea that is already here. If he wanted to be president he would be stating his case to be president instead of attacking the person that wants to be president and perform the duties of that office.

Obama wants the job, not the title. He has already made the case to the people. He has already formed allegiances with other countries to deter and suppress terroristic activities and extremism. Obama has put his policies on the table and has let the people see them. He listens to those around him and is willing to work across the aisle to come to agreements on issues that affect us. Just ask Senators Hagel and Bachus.

    Vote Obama for President.

McCain has gone too far?? This from left wingers who have called Bush, Cheney and Rove every name under the sun from Hitler to Darth Vader? Or Rudy Ghouliani? Gimmee a Break. McCain has gone very easy on Obama and has yet to bring up the Obama support of infanticide.

Guess you don't have any friends or family that died due to Bush's Oil War. You must not know of anyone who has fallen on hard times, from losing jobs & homes wholesale to having to file bankrupcy because of high oil prices while Bush's longtime Oil buddies made billions. Prices have spiked 4 times during Bush after remaining steady for YEARS. Each spike they went higher which Bush shrugged his shoulders & said he was only president, nothing he could do about it. If the hard times haven't reached you yet, don't worry it's coming.

    • Posted By: Iconoblaster @ 08/19/2008 12:40:47 PM

Lets see, (1) invading a nation that never attacked us, to install a government Bush likes better (didn't Hitler do that too?); (2) relying on falsehoods to sell that war (reminds me of Hitler's false claims about Poland); (3) indefinite detention, torture (remember when it was just Nazi and Commie governments that did that, and we were the good guys?); (4) spying on Americans ("warrant? we don't need no stinkin' warrant!"); (5) demonizing political adversaries as traitors to the nation... we could go on and on. If you don't like what Bush, Cheney and Rove, perhaps you should object to what Bush, Cheney and Rove have done to invite these comparisons.

I keep reading GOP morons claim Obama is protected by the press, and yet nobody can refute anything said in this piece. McCain is lying through his teeth, but the media pointing that out is somehow "protecting" Obama? I see that you feel that it's OK for McCain to do or say anything he wants to say - regardless of its accuracy - in order to get elected. The GOP is soulless, but somehow they feel the need to lecture others on morals. What a joke.

    • Posted By: thehappyamerican @ 08/19/2008 12:50:14 PM

Obama is protected by the press! To the extent the press CAN DO THAT!
Obama, the DNC and the liberals in the press have the same list of enemies (common ordinary Americans). McCain is doing fine in this race! THAT's information they are protecting YOU from to protect Obama!
But ob..uh... Oh....er....y'know...Obam...uh BabysalkerObama DON"T allow protection to be easy! But then, the press picked him! and probably wishing they had made a better choice!

It never ceases to amaze me how people on a consistant basis defend the sick policies of the the Bush administration by promoting and supporting "McCain't and isn't able to govern" for president. Totally laughable and totally sick. To consider the sourse of the supporting and promoting of another 4 years of the elitist regime of Bush and Cheney as the truth comes to bear it ugly blood on the brain head of corruption all over again.

Extend your lame and same PAIN with your vote for McCain

    McCain's Broken Classics.....

#1 Hit: I told You "The Surge Would Work"

Note: As Though McCain Originated "The Surge" When in Fact "The Surge" is General McFarland's Military Strategy and it did not happen at Anbar, "The Surge" happened in (Bagdad) The Bloody Anbar Awakening Happened Almost a Year Before "The Surge" and General Petraeus was Not in Iraq, During "The Anbar Awakening" or "The Surge"...

The Anbar Awakening: Is the Crucial Turning Point in the Iraq War and without it, The Surge would still be at Day One and the Casualties Would still be Prevalent. Yet Semi-Senile John McCain has Projected himself as the Creater of "The Surge", as though, Mccain Concieved, Created and his "Surge Strategy" was Implemented by the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the President, based on Mccain's "Military Experience" when all He did was Sign on a Non-Partisan BandWagon to send an Additional 20,000 Troops....

    Thats All McCain Did.

McCain Hit #2: "I know how to Win Wars"

Oh Really John ? Are you Counting Viet Nam as a WIN for America ? You were Locked Up and being Tortured Day & Night, Remember ? John, Name One Military Strategy that you had Concieved, Created and had Implemented by the President & his Joint Chiefs of Staff...

Please and Don't Mention "The Surge" I just Squashed that LIE

McCain Hit #3: "No Timetable for Withdrawal, Come Home in Victory"

What is a Victory to You John McCain ? The President of Iraq wants us OUT, The President of the USA is setting a "Time Horizon" and its been said, the Time Frame is (2010) Yet, We should Leave in Victory, Not Enough Dead Bodies, for you John ??
    ---------------------------------------

John McCain Hit #4: "The 4 1/2 Year Military Strategy Failed, Because it was a Poorly Planned & Poorly Executed Plan"

McCain is Condemning Joint Chiefs Of Staff, The President, The Vice President, Himself, The Senators & Congressmen and Women who Voted on all the Military Strategies, leading up, to the "Surge" and Above all else the US Military Performed their Jobs Incompetently, Thats Exactly what he's saying...

Yet McCain Double Talks and Calls the U.S Military Honorable, Brave and Corageous..McCain has to Open his EYES WIDE and Accept that he was a Major Force in Voting 95% of the Time on the Iraq War and All Bush Military, Foreign and Domestic Policies....Fact

Afghanistan was left wide open when we invaded and currently occupy Iraq. As a matter of fact, there were so many problems still left unsolved in Afghanistan that our own troops shot and killed one of their own because they were caught off guard (Pat Tillman). Let's not play politics here, let's be true to the statements. Senator Cochran R from Mississippi said something like he sends cold chills down his spine in regards to McCain potentially being the GOP nominee; Santorum of PA didn't like him, there are many GOP senators that disliked McCain and still have reservations.

    • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 08/19/2008 12:19:19 PM

Reservations about McCain??? maybe a few. Saddleback eliminated most of those........Disgust and loathing for The False One????.........most assuredly, that is a fact.

      NOBAMA!!!

      • Posted By: Cloudosmoke @ 08/19/2008 12:36:55 PM

That's what I said. Republicans are falling over each other trying to figure out how McCain became the nominee. That is too funny. But then again, the Republicans haven't had anything at all in the past 40+ years.

Again, more liberal biased, against anyone that is conservative. More and more brain washing, and as cloudosmoke wrote, this is what obama supporters are willing to put up with, higher rates of abortion, higher taxes, less income, more government, a weak military, not a great depression but a much greater depression, and sky rocketed gas prices, but if they are ok with that then we should be fine as a nationally weak country open to attack and then weak on diplomatic efforts.

  • Posted By: mouselion @ 08/19/2008 12:31:05 PM

I find McCain to be close to unrecognizable, he's such a distortion of who he was before, even in his past presidential campaign. His campaign image is a surrealistic distorted portrait of his character. Not liking who and what I'm seeing.

  • Posted By: mistermcfrugal @ 08/19/2008 12:03:28 PM

What a cry baby! His magazine's candidate is doing poorly so Alter now has to jump in and save the Messiah. If he's a Messiah, shouldn't he be able to save himself?

    • Posted By: summer4077 @ 08/19/2008 12:30:30 PM

I have no clue where you get that Obama is doing poorly--he's still beating McCain. McCain can't even beat him WITH falsities and lies.

    • Posted By: Cloudosmoke @ 08/19/2008 12:09:47 PM

McCain obviously does not have advisors that are capable of providing him with the information that is needed. If you are expecting him to serve alone, then there are real problems with how certain people view politics. And if he doesn't have anyone in position to advise him properly, then he won't understand any more anytime sooner. McCain supporters need to get off the Messiah kick. There's only one Messiah and he will deal with Blasphemy soon enough.

      • Posted By: summer4077 @ 08/19/2008 12:29:44 PM

Agreed. If McCain can't choose trustworthy, honorable campaign managers, does anyone really think he'll choose trustworthy cabinet members? He obviously thinks it's ok to tell blatant lies to the American public--how is that going to change when he's president? We've already had one bumbling fool that surrounded himself with sharks for a cabinet....we don't need another president that will lie to us.

  • Posted By: Cloudosmoke @ 08/19/2008 12:30:07 PM

It's all about setting policy through a vision which McCain does not have. All McCain has is defending his nonvision. All McCain has is old Bush tactics, nothing new. If anyone here that keeps bringing up Obamamohammad or Barry, you need to get a clue. You obviously do not care about our soldiers, domestic policy or national interest. All you care about is eating your old bread.

  • Posted By: Cloudosmoke @ 08/19/2008 12:18:26 PM

McCain supporters are willing to put up with more war, more soldiers' deaths, higher inflation, higher gas prices, more mortgage crises. McCain can't reach across the aisle because his own people are against him. He has no stance that benefits anyone. What makes you think McCain will be the one to bring us out of this nightmare we're in. If anything we'll be worse off. If that's what you want then fine.

  • Posted By: NotAPollStat @ 08/19/2008 12:13:19 PM

Mr. Alter - I applaud and thank you for your honesty, a non-too-popular stance throughout this campaign. The "negative" campaign ad label has been grossly misued. Sen. Obama's ads which respond to Sen. McCain's are labelled as negative, as are those which point out Sen. McCain's misstatements. However, Sen. McCain's ads which are downright false are similarly labelled as negative. There is no comparison. There should be three labels applied: positive, negative and false..

Regarding the DHL matter, was not one of Sen. McCain's top aides instrumental in the deals that effectuated the closing of the DHL plant?

Sen. McCain, like Sen. Clinton, chooses to attack the media claiming biased coverage. All television outlets continually repeated the poll numbers showing that Sen. Obama had more coverage in the media. With the exception of your colleauge, Mr. Olbermann, who pointed out that an overwhelming percentage of that same coverage of Sen. Obama was negatiive coverage.

One final note, as I read through the comments to this article posted herein, I see that those pro-McCain posters, rather than refute your statements or comment positively about Sen. Mccain, choose to attack you or your employer instead, following the lead of their candidate.

  • Posted By: Cloudosmoke @ 08/19/2008 12:07:37 PM

I'm voting for Obama because he is about change in how Washington and the country shall be governed. McCain supported Bush policy and now backs away because he has to, not because he wants to. He has shunned the VA centers, PTSD programs because he was not there or he didn't fully understand them. Just look at his voting record. He couldn't even remember about the birth control question.

  • Posted By: AskPlus @ 08/19/2008 11:59:46 AM

Isn't it strange that the article is about smears, and the smearers still can't help smearing? The article actually reads McCain is smearing way too much and will not stop anytime in the near future. Being even or losing in the polls is one thing, and not very important until Sept., but the electoral is 284 -169, so I understand the desperation, but not the depth of the inaccuracies of the lies. Keep it up Mr. Alter, the smearers can write all the negative they want, but it's still 284 -169 with 85 toss-ups. Just like Ms. Clinton, the more hurt you do, the more you hurt you get.

  • Posted By: MLyster @ 08/19/2008 11:58:26 AM

    Ohhh, Jonathan....
Your fit of pique has nothing to do with the falsity of the McCain campaign's criticisms of Obama. It reflects rather the fact that they are true. He IS wildly liberal. He IS out of touch with the "masses" (the favored term for socialists, n'est ce pas?) He DOES want to further tax the top 20% of wage earners, and he does NOT have anything near the experience of, say Justice Thomas---whom he derided as "too inexperienced" to have been selected for the Supreme Court.
Your hero worship is showing, Mr Alter---better hike up your dialogue a bit,and cover it up.

    Cordially,
    Michael Lyster MD

  • Posted By: Cloudosmoke @ 08/19/2008 11:57:11 AM

If Obama has advisors like that of McCain, i.e. Gramm (who doesn't care about you nor me), Black (who said that McCain would benefit from a terrorist act; which if we were to be attackedm, then that would mean Bush and Cheney weren't doing their job) then we are in deep doo doo. But let's be greatful that he has competent advisors unlike Bush who has had so many people thrown under the bus that the road would be undrivable because of all the bodies lying around. McCain supporters have no arguments with merit. Just sit back and enjoy the fruits of Obama's labors of giving you a good moment of life and history.
