You might have a little bit of credibility if you were to begin to chronicle the long list of lies perptrated by Mr. Obama and his staff. But, there is a reason the MSM is accused of being biased in this campaign and you are simply one more confirmation of it. Fortunately, the American people see it as well as Mr. Obama's lies, demonstrated in the current closeness of the race, despite your efforts to have Obama elected by unanimous consent.

  • Posted By: manapp99 @ 08/19/2008 10:32:13 AM

went to fact check as you suggested and found Obama lying about working with McCain on the Ethics Bill, the distortion you mention by Obama about the DHL deal, Obama exaggeration of the tire inflation claim, Obama's misuse of a partial quote about nuclear waste, and lying about people pictured with McCain being lobbyist. That was just the first five claim analyzed. I hope everyone takes your advise and visits Factcheck.org. It is your bias that does not allow you to see the truth and your spin that hopes you can paint McCain as the "negative" campaigner. Problem for you is that the "wonders of the web" allows "neutral observers" to determine the "truth or veracity" of biased "reporters" such as yourself. We are witnessing the decent into a total loss of credibility of news gatherers in this campaign like no other in history.

    "Newsweek.com has a partnership with factcheck.org"

Well that just about says it all for me. Newsweak is no longer an unbiased source of news, and partners don't do things that would disrupt the partnership flow of money to fund their "fact" checking.

Perhaps there are more anti-McCain fact checks because Newsweak only requests fact checks on McCain's statements? Where are the checks on Obama's "under the radar" internet ads? The lies he posts about himself on Obama.com?

    • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 08/19/2008 10:32:04 AM

You are 100% correct. I have said for months that FactCheck.org was no more than a Soros funded anti-conservative tool. It is basically a companion piece for MoveOn.commie. I have yet to read an unbiased and factual story, they were involved in. They spin every detail in a pro-liberal fashion.

      NOBAMA!!!

McCain Bush doctrine of Our Guns are Bigger Than Yours is finished. If McCain wants to go to war, he can do it on his own yacht. Take Bush, Cheney, Rice and all those other war mongers on the open seas and shoot spit wads at the 'axis of evil'. Everything Cheney does is personal the same way Bush does operates. It's all about me, me, me, me. Country First, YEAH RIGHT. Pockets first, Bush second, Beer third, wife fourth, family fifth... you get the picture.

Boy ya'll Kool-Aide Kids.......aka obamamohammeds, declare ANY criticism of your messiah as slander. Why don't you say what you really think.... it is actually APOSTASY and HERESY of a messiah.......well here is a new moniker for Hussein.....BARRY THE BABY KILLER!!!

FYI......Yesterday Hussein's camp basically ADMITED, he has been lying (par for the course with Barry)... about his reason for voting against banning infanticide, in Illinois.....He had been saying it would have restricted Roe vs Wade. They finally admit it would not have. Now they are trying to spin it, but it will not work. The proof is in black and white. The identical bill cleared the U.S. Senate with NO dissenting votes. Even Boxer and Kennedy voted in favor of the bill. Hussein however, killed it in committee, after it received all he said was required to get his support. He voted PRESENT once, and NO twice. It is coming back to haunt him.

Hussein out and out supported killing newborns. No other way to say it.

I wish the MSM had the guts to ask this question..."At what time did YOUR daughters receive human rights, Senator" ???

He supports murder,of the innocents, in return for votes or money. As the hippies used to call our soldiers...BABY KILLER!!!

Hussein "Barry Soerto" Obama is no more than a BABY KILLER!!!

He is a Crook and a Fraud. And ya'll have fallen hook, line, and sinker...Idiots.

    NOBAMA!!!

Superb analysis, Mr. Alter. I do think Obama's gotta hit back though, and HARD. Lay it into him, but TRUTHFULLY. Thank you.

  • Posted By: davelnaf @ 08/19/2008 10:16:12 AM

Sorry, Mr. Adler, but Obama disserves to have the truth thrown in his face. This is a guy who used divorce court info about his Senate opponent Ryan and his celeb wife to knock Ryan out of the race. He is an inexperienced, ignorant, and dirty politician that is so full of himself that he does not understand his limitations and this makes him a severe threat, if not a danger, to all hard working Americans that do not share his socialist, re-distributionist views. The only good thing that could come out of his election is that he will put the Democratic Party back several decades and, hopefully, the subsequent shock of losing election after election will convince the saner heads in the party that they need to purge it of the extremists that currently control it.

Altars attacks on McCain and gushing over Obama have gone too far. He knows better.

  • Posted By: Cloudosmoke @ 08/19/2008 10:10:56 AM

McCain puts McCain and Bush first. McCain's agenda is higher taxes for middle class, deport the low class, reduce the minimum wage, shut down Social Security, reduce taxes for the wealthy, take away affirmative action, shut down all efforts for alternative fuels and put everything in oil production as well as continue to give money to overseas oil nations, take the funds from the Medicare system and invest them into funeral homes to wait for the elderly to arrive, demolish all VA hospitals and leave the vets in the care of their families, bomb Iraq again, bomb Iran, bomb Russia, bomb Canada, bomb, bomb, bomb; move the military over 2 inches to the save face and give GW a big hug.

    Is this attack too far?

  • Posted By: vailbeach @ 08/19/2008 10:10:36 AM

Subjective claims you disagree with, or prefer hadn't been said, hardly qualify as "lies." Okay, so Obama says he's not going to cut taxes on the middle class. It would be suicidal to say anything else. However, the clear (to some) implication of his spending proposals is that he will have no choice but to do so. It is entirely fair to suggest the inevitable is, in fact, inevitable. Republicans have been on the short end of such allegations, and worse, for years. Have you ever publicly complained about allegations of Republican "plans" to throw seniors off Medicare?

I dont' expect anything more from Alter. He has written so many anti GOP stories and so many defenses of Obama that even when he injects a mild rebuke of Obama as he often does, it is clearly whitewash to cover for the big punch in the nose that he will deliver to conservatives. he thinks he's fair as he told us how much he interviewed mccain when all the press went a whoring after Obama to afganistan, iraq, israel and europe but alter's heart was with them, the rest of his leftist crew. he can't be fair but, to his credit, he realy thinks he's trying to be. but he isn't. he is sold on obama and will forever be an obama apologist until someone new with a shinier leftist veneerr shows up.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 08/19/2008 10:07:31 AM

Anti GOP? Alter was in front of the democrat on democrat attacks during the primary. His complete disregard for objectivity is frightening

  • Posted By: veefab @ 08/19/2008 9:29:39 AM

McLaren seeing how the Republican's have been in charge for 8 yrs the first 4 with a Republican Senate, look at where we are with the so called "less government" rule, Republicans got exactly what they wanted when Bush first took office, they squandered their chances to keep this Country great and a continued World leader instead they chose to invade a small Country named Iraq for Oil. McCain plans to finish the job Bush started with continued tax breaks for the rich nothing for the middle class, dig more oil to save us from an oil dependecy, continue occupation in Iraq, disregard Aphganistan and start World War III with Russia.
    that's putting your "Country First"??

    • Posted By: mclaren @ 08/19/2008 10:04:41 AM

That is the problem with the Republicans and Democrats. They all have the same mind sets. One is almost no different than the other. That is the point! They both believe they are less government and yet increasing the government. In these primaries, we have to look outside the political box of the last 30+ years. Get away from taking from the Rich to give to the Poor. The poor will only get poorer (in Freedoms alone). It needs to stop and the two primary choices not are not it. I still see McCain as the lesser of two evils, but they are very close. If Obama win, so be it. Just means we move faster to an official socialist or communist type government than what McCain will do to advance the same cause. Either way, without a change in public expectations of our leaders, we will get there eventually. "God Bless America" and its citizens to wake up!

  • Posted By: mclaren @ 08/19/2008 9:09:05 AM

Both are a joke. McCain and Obama are a joke! Neither one want to do anything to control spending nor encourage growth of this nation. Both want the people dependent on the government so they can be directed to which every way the political wind blows. Although I will most likely choose McCain, I will at least vote for the lesser of two evils for this country. McCain went too far? No! We did! By selecting these two idiots as choices. Oh well, In November just bend over and vote.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 08/19/2008 10:02:56 AM

I agree, both are terrible candidates. Hillary, with all of her flaws and baggage, was a much stronger candidate than either of these two. Lesser of two evils? I'm not sure. They are both terrible, but they are so different it is hard to differentiate who is worse

  • Posted By: arabeguiled @ 08/19/2008 9:35:13 AM

There were 100,000 fewer abortions and no attacks on the homeland since 2001 in Bush years. let marueen dowd top that

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 08/19/2008 10:01:13 AM

You are trying to make a point by defending Bush? Alter does not strike me as an objective journalist, and he has been gushing over Obama for months. However, Bush has run the sleaziest, most negative, partisan, divisive, wedge issue politics I have ever seen. He has oozed of arrogance, incompetence, and a complete lack of interest or compassion in anything or anybody but himself and his wealthy cronies. He has ignored the legislative and judicial branches of government, as well as the constitution. Defending Bush will only help Obama.

  • Posted By: News and Notes @ 08/18/2008 10:48:12 PM

Even for Alter, this is a very biased article. Journalists are supposed to be objective. One could argue McCain has been more negative than Obama. However, McCain has held back many times, Also, criticizing McCain's public service experience? You may not agree with McCain's policy, you may even think he is out of touch. But his public service is to be commended. There are many, many ways to promote Obama and criticize McCain in an objective manner. This was not an example.

    • Posted By: wardnel @ 08/19/2008 1:50:49 AM

So Alter is biased because he dares to report what is common knowledge and easily verifiable? You say one "could" argue that McCain has been more negative. "Could"??? Why not just say it. All McCain does in his ads is trash Obama. He rarely talks of himself or what he wants to do. I liked McCain in 2000, but the current McCain is a disaster, and he's gotten worse since bringing Steve Schmidt on board.

      • Posted By: News and Notes @ 08/19/2008 9:57:28 AM

I agree, I don't really know the McCain from 2008, he has morphed right since 2000. However, Alter is definitely not the most credible person on the subject, since his bias towards Obama has been gushing and evident for over a year

  • Posted By: Cressonpa @ 08/19/2008 9:57:07 AM

This is sad. After a closer look @ Hussein Obama's (Fox News and Corsi's book)backround coupled with his "eye-popping" comments from Saddleback- There is a real problem here.He is a Marxist-You may want to reconsider Hil& Bill

  • Posted By: josemarti @ 08/19/2008 9:30:24 AM

We interrupt this program for a message from President Obama. "My fellow Americans, this morning a group of alienated, and unempathic young men attacked our country. Although it could not be prevented, this attack was foreseeable. Eight years of a disastrous foreign policy has produced much anger and resentment towards America. We mourn the loss of life including that of those desperate young men. I do not condone their actions, but understand their anger. It is the same anger that so many of our young men in the inner city feel. We can anticipate further attacks, but I can assure you that I will continue to do everything in my power to placate and appease those who means us harm. Good night and God daaa....bless America.

  • Posted By: arabeguiled @ 08/19/2008 9:24:34 AM

we dont' expect anything else from the ilberal lefts apologist alter- didn't trust him before and he has had so many anti mccain and pro obama articles that its clear that even when he thinks he's being fair, and he really does think so, to his credit, he is too biased and unfair to know that he isn't

  • Posted By: veefab @ 08/19/2008 9:21:51 AM

Issues McCain has flip/flopped ... errr re-defined. Obama has alot more flipping to do to catch up with McSame.
McCain' Flips: GI Bill, Bush Tax Cuts, Iraq War, Offshore Oil drilling, Abortion, Jerry Falwell & the religious right, Guantanamo Bay & Torture, Campaign Finance Reform, Immigration, Privatizing Social Security, Attack Politics, Florida Everglades, Katrina, Gay Marriage Amendment, 527 Groups, Nuclear Waste, political reform, military action against rogue states, negotiating with North Korea, negotiations with Fidel Castro, negotiations with Hamas, unilateral action against suspected terrorists in Pakistan, FISA, holding prisoners indefinitely at Guantanamo Bay, Estate taxes, windfall profit tax on big oil, in 2000 McCain accused Karl Rove
of dirty politics & a liar - now Rove manages McCain's campaign, Martin Luther King Day, South African Divestment, Confederate Flag, Evolution being taught in schools, McCain has flip/flopped from HIS OWN BILLS - He's flipped on McCain/Feingold Finance Bill, Flipped on McCain/Kennedy Immigration Bill.

John McCain canNOT be trusted. In fact, the John McCain of 2000 would NOT even vote for the McCain of 2008 - why should anyone else?
