    Dear Mr Alter,

I can't believe given the the false context in which Barak Obama has repeated over and again John McCain's one hundred years in Iraq comment that you would even suggest McCain is the perpetrator of the lies. In fact when McCain joking said you were rich if you made 5 million dollars per year and then laughed that it would be distorted to Rev Warren, behold the next day Mr Obama was actually repeating that Mccain said it. total misusing what McCain had said. The media need to get in touch. The reason McCain is neck and neck with Obama in light of the terrible time Republicans are having else where is because Obama is an anti American radical liberal left of McGovern, Carter, Kerry and Gore. We didn't want them and we don't want Obama.
I can't edit this comment on the interface given, my apologies for errors.

    All best,
    Eric NYC

Hey! Can I laugh at you and smack you? You surely deserve it after that comment you made about me in regards to that smear author Corsi possibly being Italian. I'm Italian. If he is too, I am ashamed of him. That is what I meant with my comment. I did reply to that comment, btw.

        Hey you,
I said I can't believe I can even say this to you. And I really couldn't! Thats a compliment. And now knowing your Italian your comment doesn't seem racist anymore. But as a friend, you cannot hold the actions of every Italian as a reflection of youself or your family. You are the sweetest person to ever grace a political blog. Possibly, too sweet. Be good Pia, talk to ya Weds. Now laugh and slap away!!!! lol

I love all these fools who were naive enough to believe in obama's glossy facade, beginning to realize the empty suit is beginning to blow away in the winds of history....and even funnier, he's being beaten by a moron like mccain!

  • Posted By: kileab @ 08/19/2008 7:56:10 AM

So someone goes out and hits the anointed one and Newsweek , who puts him on the cover almost every week it seems, comes out to defend him. Sorry, your credibility on Obama is shot. I just cannot believe anything in Newsweek when it comes to the election. Are the McCain ads unfair? Probably. Are they out of bounds? no. It's a blood sport, get over it.

It never ceases to amaze me how people on a consistant basis defend the sick policies of the the Bush administration by promoting and supporting "McCain't and isn't able to govern" for president. Totally laughable and totally sick. To consider the sourse of the supporting and promoting of another 4 years of the elitist regime of Bush and Cheney as the truth comes to bear it ugly blood on the brain head of corruption all over again.

Extend your lame and same PAIN with your vote for McCain

The biggest foreign policy blunder in the history of the USA is George Bush's War in Iraq. Which McCain whole heartedly supported.

The biggest foreign policy blunder of John Mccain's political life is the passing of the McCain Bill. How can anybody vote for another obvious administration of secrecy as is evident by McCain's previous work in the service of the US Senate?

Release the sealed records the complete records you know the ones you had sealed when you fought long and hard to seal up with the passing of the McCain Bill Circa 1992 Come on John McCain and lets put this election on a level playing field. let the truth be know for all to see.

The Georgia conflict has shined a spotlight on McCain's chief foreign policy adviser Randy Scheunemann.

Scheunamann was a major organizer of the campaign to get the U.S to invade Iraq. He was a board member of the Project for a New American Century that circulated the now-famous manifesto signed by key Neo Cons that first called for the Iraq invasion. He was a founder of the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq. More recently he has been a paid lobbyist for a number of foreign governments including Macedonia, Taiwan and, most importantly, the Republic of Georgia.

According to records from the Justice Department's foreign agents registration office, Scheunamann's two-person firm has received $830,000 from Georgia since 2004. Though Scheunamann now claims to have taken a leave of absence from lobbying, his latest contract, with Georgia's National Security Council, was signed as recently as April 17th. According to the Los Angeles Times, McCain spoke by phone with Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili that day and then issued a statement denouncing Russian moves to "undermine Georgian's sovereignty."

The paper also cites lobbying forms filed by Scheunamann's firm Orion indicating that McCain sponsored or co-sponsored four Senate resolutions on behalf of Georgia and other Orion clients: Latvia, Macedonia, Romania and Taiwan.

The poor judgment McCain showed by appointing a man who was serving as a paid foreign agent to be his chief foreign policy adviser is simply breathtaking. It is even more so because of the history of the current conflict.

As the situation in Georgia develops it becomes clearer by the day that the McCain supported Bush/Cheney- Iraq policy has severely undercut our diplomatic options as well. Apart from generally poisoning the good will of countries around the world, the McCain supported Bush/Cheney-invasion of Iraq lowered the bar for the rest of the world when it comes to justifying the invasion of one country by another.

It has made it very difficult for the U.S. to take the moral or political high ground against Russia when just six years ago our country invaded and occupied another nation that had not attacked or immediately threatened us -- and didn't have the weapons of mass destruction that were used to argue that they might "potentially" threaten our security.

America already had one major military operation underway in Afghanistan when the Bush administration -- with McCain's full support -- recklessly poured most of our other military assets into the invasion of Iraq. Today most Army and Marine units are either deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan, preparing to deploy or recovering from deployment. The fact is that at the present time, we do not have the wherewithal to respond militarily to a crisis even if such a response were necessary or appropriate.

As a result, John McCain's strident statements following Russia's military actions only place into relief the reality that he has continuously supported Bush policies that make us weaker -- in spite of his tough talk.

The author is clearly an Obama surrogate. McCain's "distortions" are truths creatively phrase to make a point - Obama is a hollow celebrity, with no experience; he & the Dems have blocked offshore/ANWR drilling, a key factor in high gas prices; he changes positions like underwear for political expedience. Check the record - read the stories or RealClearPolitics, or www.honestjohnwade.com. He's a tax and spend liberal politician, no the God.

  • Posted By: Sportsmom2012 @ 08/19/2008 7:00:45 AM

Wow - are you on McCain's payroll. Try looking around. People are sick of the biased crap that the msm has been feeding America on Obama. Frankly as a lifelong Democrat I am devastated that the teflon bubble that was created around this empty suit was not popped during the primaries so that Clinton was the nominee and the Democrats would stand a chance. Obama stands for "change depending on who you are speaking to", his extreame left voting record, his complete lack of experience and his total lack of a resume do not quaility him to be the head of a sub-committee let alone POTUS. Americans are starting to see that - I wish you kool-aid followers in the media would get it - before you lose all your readers.

Jonathan, how much is the Obama campaign paying you? Your article looks like something from the Obama spin room. Credibility in journalism is important. Unfortunately, you have lost your credibility here.

Quite a tirade from a bitter man. Sorry Jonothan, the Change You've been Waiting for Ain't gonna happen. Obama is a phoney and all McCain is doing is exposing him. It's too bad Obama is all brains and no backbone but he'll make a great professor -- just not somebody we want in the Oval Office when tough decisions are to be made.

The ad that claims Obama will raise taxes on the middle class is not based on a specific Obama statement taht he would, "Raise taxes on the middle class," obviously he would never say that. McCain is instead connecting the dots of Obama's plan. This is very similar to George H.W. Bush's claims about Clinton's middle class tax cut promise in the 1992 campaign. Clinton never actually said that he would raise taxes om the middle class, but Bush claimed that he had "Checked the numbers," and that they did not add up. Bush said that in fact, Clinton would be implementing a huge tax increase on middle class. The media called this "Negative campaigning," and even called it a lie. So, come 1993, what did we get? A tax increase on the middle class.
Anybody who believes that Obama's budget will not increase taxes on everyone but the poor, is delusional. I won't even get into what he will do to small business' and investors, but we are screwed.

Please, vbarbarino, you're scaring me! That awful economy we had under Clinton might come back to haunt us?

Wait a minute, now that I think about it, weren't things actually a lot better 8 years ago? Budget surplus, low unemployment, stable prices, low interest rates. The McCain plan, basically 4 more years of the Bush, is what ought to scare you.

      • Posted By: vbarbarino @ 08/19/2008 1:00:53 AM

The economy was excellent under Clinton due to the stock boom. Bush inherited a recession in 2001 due to the stock market coming back to earth, and more importantly, the massive surplus accumulated by the high taxes. The government had a nearly trillion dollar surplus. You cannot take that much money out of the economy without negative results. Bush's tax cuts, and especially the cuts on the capital gains tax, cut the recession short and gave us an excellent economy the past 8 years. If you compare it to the 90s tech boom era, I am sure you can find fault, but that was not real. Historically speaking, the past 8 years have been outstanding.

        • Posted By: DavidCA @ 08/19/2008 1:42:18 AM

If you thought the last 8 years were outstanding, vbarbarino, you must be rich. Definitely in your interests to vote for McCain because he's all about 4 more years.

Meanwhile, those of us with incomes less than $5M are pretty sure it's time for a change.

Here's my story from the 90's. The morning after the 1994 election, my seven-year-old son asked me what it would mean. I said, "well, forget about whatever the Republicans said, the first thing they'll try to do is get rid of capital gains taxes so that some guys who never did an honest day's work can get even richer off the stock market." Sure enough, Newt Gingrich came out and the first thing out of his mouth was about eliminating capital gains. That stuff never gets old for you rich guys, does it?

          • Posted By: vbarbarino @ 08/19/2008 6:32:17 AM

Well, I am certainly not rich, but I am a small business owner, and when high earners get hit with tax increases it hurts retail sales. Low taxes are always good for the economy.

  • Posted By: cknob101 @ 08/19/2008 6:23:25 AM

My God...there is so much time left in this election campaign. Several lifetimes in fact. We have the conventions, the VP choices, the debates, the volitility of international events in Iraq, Iran and Georga, falling energy prices etc all of which can significantly alter the direction of this election. Wake me up in late October please. John, we all know you bleed for Obama...that's fine. I wouldnt get yourself in a panic about the direction of things in mid August. Long way to go yet.

  • Posted By: mediahack @ 08/19/2008 5:42:00 AM

Democratic Strategy to date: Call him McBush or McSame.
A clever idea given Bush's unpopularity. But I think the campaign needs to broaden its strategy.
Otherwise the "bump in the polls" hope and expectation of Denver may be just as unsatisfying as Berlin.
