Democratic Strategy to date: call him McBush or McSame
It seemed like a smart move given the unpopularity of Bush, but it's not working.
Democratic Strategy to date: call him McBush or McSame

This is all irrelevant. If elected, Obama will go for our guns and push for unlimited access to abortion.
So I guess murder is just a matter of timing to you.
f McBush has not lied and stuck to his promise of an honorable campaign the voters might believe he did not cheat. If McBush had not cheated on his first wife with Cindy we might believe he is not a cheating adulterer. If McBush did not use his father's influence to get in the Naval academy and flight school he would have some credibility. If McBush did not steal his cross in the sand story from his favorite author we would believe he did not cheat at the forum. If McBush did not get into congress funded by Keating we would thing he was a man of honor. McBush even tried to cheat us into thinking he would be an Admiral when basically he left the Navy a week after his father died because he did not have his father to cover up for him anymore. If McBush had authored his own legislation instead of grandstanding by standing on the shoulders of the great Democratic legislators like Teddy Kennedy. If McBush was not wholly owned by corporate lobbyists and flip flop just to get oil money contributions he would be believable. McBush has gotten by his whole life through self promotion, sanctimony and cheating. Now we are supposed to believe his word. Fat chance grandpa.
The worse part is McBush did not even need to cheat. McBush was in front of and audience filled with the GOP faithful. The crowd was going to like his answers not matter what because most of them agree with him on abortion, judges, etc. This was a huge strategic loss for McBush. Instead of trying to game the system McBush should have come correct in the first place. Then again this "man of honor" could not even come correct on his biggest moral failing and admit he committed adultery.
Mr. Alter you of course are 100% correct.
But this is the same scurrilous tactics that got us 8 years of Bush. I am thoroughly convinced that Republicans are against any real educational reform because ignorant voters are their bread and butter.
The choice is clear this election by an answer to one question during the Saddleback forum.
The most telling answers to me were the answers to the question about evil. McBush was nationalistic and sees evil only in other countries like the US has some evil exemption. While Obama was humble and recognized evil was everywhere. Obama knew he was only God's servant and that we can only combat evil and only God can defeat evil. Obama also recognized that you cannot combat evil by doing evil things like using torture. While McBush had the presumptuousness and arrogance that he could defeat evil. McBush did not even know that the Bible says God is the only one who can defeat evil.
Obama did, ONCE, in February, say we should tax all dirty energy. McCain's calling him on it - most of our electricity is from dirty energy - is no more misleading than Obama's frequent claims Mccain wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years. Something McCain said once but never argued that we want to be there fighting the war for 100 years, he aluded to the fact that we might want a base there to help us in the future (the same plan Obama now supports btw).
Also, I live in Oregon and have heard Obama's voice in ads here saying McCain is to blame for the high price of gas. That's just as absurd as blaming Obama - though Obama's blocking a vote on off shore oil drilling does in fact have the impact of rewarding speculators by indicating a reluctance on the government for more oil production.
The list goes on, but my point is that the examples listed are almost completely one sided and misleading.
This article is as biased as most of the other 'journalism' comong out of Newsweek this election. They are BARELY behind MSNBC in their bias. People should take this article with a massive grain of salt.
OMG way out of context Obama is not taxing anything. Obama and McCain can propose all the legislation they want to. Remember checks and balances. Neither McCain or Obama run a monarchy.
Obama is not blocking a vote on drilling. Obama is not the Majority leader or the Speaker of the House.
Ah, partisanship again rears its ugly head and the Republofacists bow to its rampant idiocy. (My Party, right or wrong. Hmm, mostly wrong, I think.) The simple truth is that the GOP is gulty of lies, distortions and outright slander. Witness that bucket of vomit written by that vicious, racist hatemonger Corsi and bankrolled by the Republican Party. Slander, pure and simple and in a civilized nation that man would be fined and in jail within hours.
Unfortunately, this is not a civilized nation. Our three branches of government are stuffed with thieves, liars and sexual psychopaths. Electing McCain would be simply allowing more of the same monstrousness to continue. And you, Mr spk2moi, would clap your hands in childish glee and anticipate more dollars rolling in to your own bank account.
The parallels between the Republican Party and the National Socialist Party of Germany in the '30's have been delineated before and I shall not belabor the point. The same arguments, the same empty logic and the very same vile, twisted rhetoric. But this time, the news media is considerably more observant and considerably less inclined to be cowed by carrion eaters such as yourself and the criminals you admire. We're on to you, Mr. spk2moi, and THAT's why you and your slimy ilk claim a 'liberal bias' in the media. You don't like it when the cold, hard light of Truth shines on your various crimes and misdemeanors and eventually you too will make enough mistakes to wind up in jail, preferably next to a three hundred pound psychotic crackhead who would just love to make you his best friend.
Enjoy what little time you have left, counting your ill-gotten gains and gloating over your cheap victories. (How much satisfaction can there really be at seeing elderly people starve or die from lack of proper medical care or witnessing children grow up ignorant and deprived? Quite a lot, apparently.) The difference this time, is that you can't have us all shot or jailed for telling the truth. The truth is the truth, no matter how much you despise it or how inconvenient you find it.
Suck on THAT, you fascist scum!
Michelle Rose
(Proudly, honorably a liberal. Go ahead, take your best shot.)
I love it when the liberal media point to factcheck.org, a liberal outfit made up of university professors at Penn. As www.notwrightforamerica.com points out, using them is like using the Democrat National Committee. They're partisan liberals without any credibility.
I love it when right wing nutjobs use a right wing smear site to discredit a non partisan website as being liberal.
Mr. Alter, this story is ridiculous. You are trying, yet failing to make a point. If you want to maintain that Democrats, and particularly Obama, don't and aren't going negative, well, it's just one more falsehood the MSM is trying to peddle. The problem with the MSM and all their (your) twisted logic is, that we, the American people are watching, and can see the truth. Obama never opens his mouth without slamming McCain and his plan. He mischaracterizes McCain all the time. But you don't see it. You're Dem-blind!! As are all the rest of em. Now, when November comes, and AGAIN, all you media idiots are left shaking your heads, will you decide to look at your lens you see things through, and get it adjusted? Nope. And as a Republican, I invite you to keep up the ridiculous coverage that puts egg on your face every time. Remember Gore? Remember Kerry.
May I direct your attention to John's finger-pointing pose above?
Thank you.
Administration "Talking Points" are OUT and "Pointing Points" are IN !
On another site you will find Condileeza Rice in this same, "too same" a pose, not to be posed by the same phototographer obliged by the same orders from above.,,,,same hand, ,,,same angle, ,,,same sneer.
Immediately after being termed "embarassingly silly" on this other site Condi was replaced by a photo of Florida awaiting Fay.
I dont know who McCain is sneering and pointing at but considering the Condi article she must have been pointing directly into the face of Putin.
So concerned about their inability for The Commander-In-Everything to take any action towards Putin in the Georgian invasion that desperation has them substituting graphics for lack of action.
We're supposed to think, "Oh wow, Condi is right in Putin's face!!!,,,
As for John's pointing He's probably firing his PhotoShop artist.
In studying the McCain pose if you cant see the betrayal in his facial features that this merely IS a pose you will probably lose your license to practice physiognomy.
Alter is in the tank for Obama. Shocker. Like Obama calling McCain "Bush" is substantive, or lying by claiming McCain had tried to scare people about race, or distorting McCain's comments on 100 years in Iraq. The fact of the matter is both candidates call out the others hypocrisies. When reporters like Alter are in the tank for Obama, it's the only way to get to a substantive discussion rather then hear "hope" and "change" ranted about ad nauseum.
Good thing Jesse Jackson didn't actually cut out Obama's n**s. What would Johathan Alter have to suckle if he had?
Point of fact: Oil companies are recently donating to McCain over Obama by a 3:1 margin. That should tell you something. Michaelpo cites a single bill. There has been more than one bill related to energy in the last 4 years. As for the Keating Five: McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating after Keating gave McCain at least $112,00 in contributions. In the mid-1980s, McCain made at least 9 trips on Keating's airplanes, and 3 of those were to Keating's luxurious retreat in the Bahamas. McCain's wife and father-in-law also were the largest investors (at $350,000) in a Keating shopping center; the Phoenix New Times called it a "sweetheart deal." Not pocketing any money? You be the judge...
Is foxnews (run by Nixonian Roger Ailes) in the tank for Obama? Tune into Fox News Sunday any week and look at the lineup (neutral NPR person, conservative Hillary supporter Juan W., and two or three rightwing extremists). The other networks at least try to be balanced.
I guess Obama's false claims that McCain was running a racist campaign doesn't coutn as a smear?
I wonder if these idiot pundits have any idea how blind they are to reality.
I don't think Obama ever claimed McCain was "running a racist campaign" as you suggest. He remarked in passing that the GOP might try to demonize him, coz he looks different ... Don't be so stupid. Of COURSE he looks different - he's younger, smarter, more elegant, more dignified than many of our hypocritical forefathers, who founded our "freedoms" on the backs of slave labor. Freedom indeed. They must have been like today's equivalent of Republicans: Hypocrites.
Obama said McCain will say racist stuff.like the Repubs have done in the past . . .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INvOnosKYNk
www.therealmccain.com lets have fun showing both sides now.
He did not say "McCain will say racist stuff."
Then given is was noted on the news, Obama turned it into McCain is being cyncial, not racist. Mr. O. got caught with his pants down on that initial remark.
GRIM PROVING GROUND FOR OBAMAS HOUSING POLICY
PART I
The candidate (Obama) endorsed federal subsidies for private entrepreneurs to build low-income units. But, while he garnered support from developers, many projects in his former district have fallen into disrepair.
Presidential hopeful, residents complaints(Boston Globe) At a dilapidated Chicago housing project, some see problems with Obamas favored housing policy:

CHICAGO - The squat brick buildings of GROVE PARC PLAZA, in a dense neighborhood that Barack OBAMA REPRESENTED for eight years as a state senator, hold 504 apartments subsidized by the federal government for people who cannot afford to live anywhere else. But it is NOT SAFE to live here.
About 99 of the units are vacant, many rendered uninhabitable by unfixed problems, such as COLLAPSED ROOFS and fire damage. Mice scamper through the halls. Battered mailboxes hang open. SEWAGE BACKS UP INTO KITCHEN SINKS. In 2006, federal inspectors graded the condition of the complex an 11 on a 100-point scale - a score so bad the buildings now face demolition.
Grove Parc has become a symbol for some in Chicago of the broader FAILURES of giving public subsidies to private companies to build and manage affordable housing - an approach STRONGLY BACKED BY OBAMA as the best replacement for public housing.
As a state senator, OBAMA COAUTHORED an ILLINOIS LAW creating a new POOL OF TAX CREDITS for private developers. As a US senator, he pressed for increased Federal subsidies. And as a presidential candidate, he has campaigned on a PROMISE TO CREATE AN AFFORDABLE HOUSING TRUST FUND that could give developers an estimated $500 million a year.
But a Globe review found that THOUSANDS OF APARTMENTS across Chicago that had been built with local, state, and federal subsidies - including SEVERAL HUNDRED IN OBAMAS FORMER DISTRICT - deteriorated so completely that they were no longer habitable.

So share with all of this wonderful news your trying to spread among the commoners, if your buddy Hillary gets the nod for VP, are you going to feel better, or still be spiteful and vote for McCain? We should all know in the next few days who his choice is going to be for VP

PART II:
Grove Parc and several other prominent failures were developed and managed by Obamas close friends and political supporters. (Everyone remembers Obamas friend Antoine TONY Rezko). Those people (Obamas friends) PROFITED FROM THE SUBSIDIES even as many of Obamas constituents suffered. Tenants lost their homes; surrounding neighborhoods were blighted.
Some of the residents of Grove Parc say they are angry that Obama did not notice their plight. The development straddles the boundary of Obamas state Senate district. Many of the tenants have been his constituents for more than a decade.(But Obama ignored this plight).
No one should have to live like this, and no one did anything about it, said Cynthia Ashley, who has lived at Grove Parc since 1994. Obamas campaign, in a written response to Globe questions, affirmed the candidates support of public-private partnerships as an alternative to public housing, saying that Obama has consistently fought to make livable, affordable housing in mixed-income neighborhoods available to all (yeah right, but once built, left to plight). The campaign did not respond to questions about whether Obama was aware of the problems with buildings in his district during his time as a state senator, nor did it comment on the roles played by people connected to the senator.
Among those tied to Obama POLITICALLY, PERSONALLY, OR PROFESSIONALLY are: VALERIE JARRETT, a senior adviser to Obamas presidential campaign and a member of his finance committee. Jarrett is the chief executive of Habitat Co., which MANAGED GROVE PARC PLAZA FROM 2001 UNTIL THIS WINTER and CO-MANAGED an even larger subsidized complex in Chicago that was seized by the federal government in 2006, after city inspectors found widespread problems (yeah, right, I am sure Obama did not know about these rundown subsidized complexes).
Allison Davis, a major FUND-RAISER for Obamas US Senate campaign and a former lead partner at Obamas former law firm. Davis, a DEVELOPER, WAS INVOLVED IN THE CREATION OF GROVE PARC AND HAS USED GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES to rehabilitate more than 1,500 units in Chicago, including a North Side building cited by city inspectors last year after chronic plumbing failures resulted in raw sewage spilling into several apartments.
TONY REZKO, perhaps the most important fund-raiser for Obamas early political campaigns and a FRIEND who helped the Obamas buy a home in 2005. Rezkos

company USED SUBSIDIES TO REHABILITATE MORE THAN 1,000 APARTMENTS, mostly in and around Obama's district, then REFUSED TO MANAGE the units, leaving the buildings to decay to the point where many no longer were habitable.
Campaign finance records show that six prominent developers - including JARRETT, DAVIS, and REZKO - collectively contributed more than $175,000 to Obamas campaigns over the last decade and raised hundreds of thousands more from other donors. Rezko alone raised at least $200,000, by Obamas own accounting.
One of those contributors, CECIL BUTLER, controlled Lawndale Restoration, the largest SUBSIDIZED COMPLEX in Chicago, which was SEIZED by the government in 2006 after city inspectors found more than 1,800 code violations. Butler and Davis did not respond to messages. REZKO IS IN PRISON; his lawyer did not respond to inquiries.

Everyone knows the media is in the tank for Obama. Americans want the media to just report the news. We'll do the opinions, and the opinions are that Obama is not ready to lead our nation. His polling is dropping faster than a rock off Mount Everest. What do you expect when Obama was a fictional character created by the media.
If you are in the pocket of big oil, if you have failed to encourage development of energy alternatives, yes, you are responsible for the high price of energy, Bush is responsible, and so is McCain. Oil companies already have loads of offshore drilling leases, but are not exercising them because they want to manipulate the price. The price of gas going down in the last few months before the election is predictable (happened also in '04) -- don't deceive yourself that all politicians are equally responsible for all problems.

Alter lists just a few of the reasons we should reject McCain. McCain is He???s corrupt: member of the Keating Five, in the pocket of big oil and pharmaceuticals, and his campaign is run by fat-cat lobbyists. He???s a liar: Look at what he says about Obama that ain???t true, per factcheck.org He???s a flip-flopper: Will do anything to get elected, changing positions on swiftboating, immigration, affirmative action, taxes, offshore drilling. Like Bush, he doesn???t do his homework, so will prove incompetent: How did he get so near the bottom of his college class? He???s an enemy of the environment and wants to obstruct your right to health insurance and social security in retirement. Does not respect women or their rights. He doesn???t support veterans: Look at his voting record, my friend. Crashing five planes doesn???t make for a great Navy career, nor fitness to be president. He???s high risk to get involved in a sex scandal i the White House: A habitual adulterer. He???s maliciously ill-tempered: Can you trust a leader so instinctually foul of character and vengeful? He will be the Bush third term, but with a vengeance.
