Bottom line: McCain will win come November. Obama is full of air -- no substance; too young, and unprovened. Duh! I mean -- what experience does he really have: a community organizer. What a resume!

In November 1990, the Senate Ethics Committee launched an investigation into the meetings between the senators and the regulators. McCain, Cranston, DeConcini, Glenn, and Riegle became known as the Keating Five.

(Keating himself was convicted in January 1993 of 73 counts of wire and bankruptcy fraud and served more than four years in prison before his conviction was overturned. Last year, he pleaded guilty to four counts of fraud and was sentenced to time served.)

McCain defended his attendance at the meetings by saying Keating was a constituent and that Keating's development company, American Continental Corporation, was a major Arizona employer. McCain said he wanted to know only whether Keating was being treated fairly and that he had not tried to influence the regulators. At the second meeting, McCain told the regulators, "I wouldn't want any special favors for them," and "I don't want any part of our conversation to be improper."

In early 1987, at the beginning of his first Senate term, McCain attended two meetings with federal banking regulators to discuss an investigation into Lincoln Savings and Loan, an Irvine, Calif., thrift owned by Arizona developer Charles Keating. Federal auditors were investigating Keating's banking practices, and Keating, fearful that the government would seize his S&L, sought intervention from a number of U.S. senators.

At Keating's behest, four senators--McCain and Democrats Dennis DeConcini of Arizona, Alan Cranston of California, and John Glenn of Ohio--met with Ed Gray, chairman of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, on April 2. Those four senators and Sen. Don Riegle, D-Mich., attended a second meeting at Keating's behest on April 9 with bank regulators in San Francisco.

Regulators did not seize Lincoln Savings and Loan until two years later. The Lincoln bailout cost taxpayers $2.6 billion, making it the biggest of the S&L scandals. In addition, 17,000 Lincoln investors lost $190 million.

Hey markymark....just saw your post and thought it deserved a post. First...I have spent less than 5 minutes looking at the Fact Check story......I'm glad a dialogue is finally opening up, about this very serious matter. At first notice, I see...poor photos, and weird angles. Also, to quell all doubt...WHY NOT MAKE IT AVAILABLE FOR SCRUTINY. We all know FactCheck ain't to firm with facts. Very, very simple solution. It smells a lot like a rat....but...I'm no expert on this matter, so I'll allow someone much more knowledgeable respond. I'll post it under this.......This is so fuuunnny.....

FactCheck.org Has New Birth Certificate Story [Update]
        August 21, 2008 · 17 Comments
Well, well. I was wondering when this ???story??? was going to ???break??? now that Obama has returned from Hawaii. What a coincidence that it???s today, because we just pointed out that Factcheck.org has a conflict of interest in covering Barack Obama because they are owned by The Annenberg Foundation. And now they have published a new ???fight the smears??? story about Obama???s Certificate of Live Birth (COLB).

They have a photo of ???Factcheck representatives??? holding the COLB, and close-ups of the certificate number, stamps, and seal.

Before we go any further, let me stop to say this: YES, I also believe that Obama was born in the USA. I also believe that the Obama COLB reflects his original birth certificate. Read this blog. The issues are multiple citizenships and identities, the status of his current citizenship, updated birth certificates, etc., not to mention his lack of transparency.

I found this part of the Factcheck article particularly interesting:

We asked the Obama campaign about the date stamp and the blacked-out certificate number. The certificate is stamped June 2007, because that???s when Hawaii officials produced it for the campaign, which requested that document and ???all the records we could get our hands on??? according to spokesperson Shauna Daly. The campaign didn???t release its copy until 2008, after speculation began to appear on the Internet questioning Obama???s citizenship. The campaign then rushed to release the document, and the rush is responsible for the blacked-out certificate number. Says Shauna: ???[We] couldn???t get someone on the phone in Hawaii to tell us whether the number represented some secret information, and we erred on the side of blacking it out. Since then we???ve found out it???s pretty irrelevant for the outside world.??? The document we looked at did have a certificate number; it is 151 1961 - 010641.

Interesting, indeed. I have the following questions for Factcheck. Since they are so on-top of this story, I???m sure they have answers.

          CONTINUED FROM ABOVE..........................

          1. What took the campaign so long to show an actual document to the media?

          2. What other media did the campaign offer to show the COLB to, and have any others seen it and touched it, handled and photographed it? Or only Annenberg-owned Factcheck?

          3. Why did the campaign go to such trouble to digitally black out the certificate number when it could have stuck a piece of solid black tape over the number, especially since, as Factcheck reported, they were in such a hurry?

          4. Why did Janice Okubo tell a reporter that the COLB was ordered ???this month??? (June 2008 ) if it was ordered in June 2007?

          5. Since Factcheck is seemingly in the business of helping the Obama campaign fight smears, did Factcheck ask the campaign about the rumor that Republicans are holding Barry Soetoro???s birth certificate? If so, what was the campaign???s response? If not, why not?

          And finally???

          6. How did Factcheck end up getting this access? Did they ask the campaign, or did the campaign offer to show it to Factcheck? The article is mysteriously vague on that point: ???FactCheck representatives got a chance to spend some time with the birth certificate.???

            CONTINUED......................................

Also, Facthcheck should make a correction: Atlas Shrugs is not an anonymous blogger.

Update: I agree with Old Atlantic???s comment:

???We don???t know about name changes, parents, guardians, etc. We also know that Hawaii can issue a colb for out of state birth. Obama didn???t grant permission to Hawaii to answer all questions or release the file. Why did Okubo say, according to a recent press report, that Hawaii contacted the Obama campaign and got no response? What about releasing the files in Indonesia? What about the US passport files? What about Obama authorizing any country, state, school, or religious institution to release all records and post them on the internet?

Why doesn???t Obama answer the questions about Indonesia, including having a passport instead of this? This is a blow off.

Why doesn???t Obama authorize former Harvard students to talk about him? Others he knew? Disclose who paid for Harvard????

THIS IS GOOD FOR ALL INVOLVED. Hussein has opened the door. He has two choices now. Provide access and answer these questions...OR...avoid it and give the resemblence of deceit. It's getting good. When I do some more research, I'll get back with you. Gonna be fun.

McCain has flop flipped and flip flopped and flop flipped and flip flopped more times than can be counted among the stars.

'No off shore drilling... ok off shore drilling to win the election.'

'No to timetable in Iraq... ok as long as it gets me into office. We can stay there when I'm elected.'

'100 years in Iraq... ok 16 months like Obama said as long as I'm the one to be elected. I can go back on my word when I win.'

'I support pork barrel spending... oops, I meant I was against it as long as I'm elected to office.'

'Bush is right all the time... No, Bush is wrong as long as I get to replace him.'

McCain, the same old politician. Nothing new, nothing different.

    Vote Change.

      1. Cheater - No denying that he cheated on first wife Carol. When his marriage was failing he chose to commit adultery and divorced Carol and married Cindy. He even talks about it in his book , how immature and wrong back then and was not proud of his conduct and regrets his failed marriage. He also brought up his failed marriage in front of the Saddleback crowd in response to one of the questions.

      2. Liar - They both have lied. I dont know of anything specific here, but he is a politician. I am sure he has lied or stretched the truth just like Obama has and continues to do, with he latest being his reason why he blocked the passing of the state bill for the Born Alive Infant Protection Act while serving as state Senator of Illinois. Here are two articles for anyone that wants more info on this:

      http://www.citizenlink.org/CLtopstories/A000007034.cfm
      http://www.illinoisrighttolife.org/newpage36.htm

      3. Keating 5 - McCain was investigated like others, but in the end nothing came of it, other than him being investigated. As a result of the scandal, though, McCain made it his mission to follow through in pushing and in the end passing the McCain-Feingold bill.

The McCain-Feingold bill was introduced to the United States Senate in 2002 in an attempt to reform campaign financing in the United States. The bill passed after some modifications, and was signed into law by then-President George Bush. Provisions of the bill took effect in November 2002, radically changing the nature of campaign financing in America..

      4. Flip-flopping - No body does it better than Obama, but of course, McCain is guilty of his share of flip-flopping. Barack wins gold medals at the Obamalymics in the area of flip-flopping:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp7GK3bJHEA

      5. Pandering - See #4 above as it goes hand in hand with flip-flopping. Just replace flip flopping with Panding in my comment above.

Are you referring to the Saddleback forum. . . ? If so, McCain did show a great deal of regret about his failed marriage in response to one of the questions. Did he go into the gory details of what that meant? No, of course not, for obvious reasons. After saying that, why do you think Obama never breathed a word about his TUCC church (www.TUCC.org), and his pastor, Rev. Wright, who was his spiritual mentor and friend (uncle) for over 20 yrs. The man who introduced him to his Christian faith and his core beliefs that he has today from these influences? Answer: Same thing, for obvious reasons, given the audience at hand. They are, after all, politicians. They would be shooting themselves in the foot to have gone into THAT much gory details.

Say what you want to say about the whole Rev. Wright relationship, it definitely hurt him i a good segment of voters that are unforegiven.. As much as you make fun of the whole Rev Wright guy, he definitely had a great impact on many voters that Obama still has not been able to reel in.

maybe mr. wrights views are unpopular but the vast majority of americans could come to a better understanding of their fellow citizens if they understood why there is so much frustration in black communities. or you can just write him off as some anti-american devil pastor

or you can open your eyes and see reality as all of Chicago (where I live) does. Wright's no angel and it's no surprise. it wouldn't take 20 yrs to wise up unless you're a real idiot or have no judgment.. frustration in the black community doesn't make right anti-american rantings especially by a former US Marine.

What's wrong with Rev. Wright criticizing America for its systemic racism? Is Rev. Wright the only pastor in the USA who ever gave sermons on this topic? If he offered solace to people who have endured racist comments, etc, what's your beef? Conservative bigots stupidly think they own Christianity.

              • Posted By: chindognyc @ 08/20/2008 9:39:53 AM

And lets not forget the guy who wanted to kill Obama not because he is a Democrat, but because of the color of his skin. That is why Powell would not run. As much as we don't want to talk about it, the color of Obama skin is really making white America feel a little uncomfortable. They still feel that black Americans don't understand white America.

barry pandering par excellence: the "regular people" barry invited to the convention. They seem handily to fit in to regular demographics: women, single parents, veteran family, Hispanic surname. Absolutely ridiculous. And a stadium lke that can fit a few more that five "regular folk".

common man, a gas tax holiday. that is the most blatant pandering i've ever heard. The only thing worse he coulda said is "hey dumb people want 20 bucks vote for me and i'll waste billions of dollars to make you feel good"

      • Posted By: chindognyc @ 08/20/2008 10:07:12 AM

No sharenews. Flip-flop and pandering are two different things to me. If you want to say Obama is flip-flopping, he does it when a situation has changed. He would then go with how the situation is.
McCain and oil-drilling. Thats flip-flopping. Pandering is McCain's favorite. McCain gets wind of something and he uses it to make the public happy. He even admited it when it came to the Confederate Flag. Thats called pandering sharenews.

      • Posted By: raddave @ 08/20/2008 12:47:24 AM

Sharenews to say nothing came from the keating 5 scandal is not totally accurate, he was criticized the the Senate ethics committee for showing "poor judgement."

Also, before handing out the gold medal in flip-flopping, you should consider the degree of difficulty. McCain now supports the bush tax cuts, something he voted against. McCain says he supports the military, but has voted against millions of dollars in bills to enhance the quality of life for the troops.

        • Posted By: sharenews @ 08/20/2008 1:51:44 AM

Well, yeah, that is obvious that it created a lot of criticism about him (in was after all a Keating scandal). I thought you were inferring him doing something illegal. But he definitely learned something from his mistake which is always most important and went on to vigorously pursue (with another senator) the passing of the McCain-Feingold bill. As for having poor judgment, I would say that there is plenty to go around when it comes to Barack Obama also, but of course not as much as McCain cuz he is the seasoned candidate (decades in Washington) vs. 4 yrs in the US Senate with 2 years of those 4 years on the road campaigning. Give Obama time and all you Obama supporters will be saying HE IS NOT THE MAN I USED TO KNOW. Given that, I still have to say Nobama. As for flip flopping, Im not sure what you mean about considering the degree of difficulty . . .what, in the flip flopping choice? Example? : You either have a firm belief that IRAN is a tiny country and not a serious threat to the world or you don???t. Two days after stating it was not he turned around and said it was a great (and weeks later, it was a GRAVE threat). Is that what you meant?

As for the GI Bill (I think that is what you are referring to, no?) that did not vote for, it was not because he frivolously did not support our US troops. He does. . . But he had to look at this bill from a BROADER perspective (vision) of this bill???s potential impact:

DESCRIPTION OF GI BILL that passed:

At issue with McCain and company was an expansion of the GI bill that would guarantee full college scholarships for those who serve in the military for three years. The Democratic-led Senate on Thursday passed the measure, sponsored by Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., and supported by Obama, on a 75-22 vote as 25 Republicans abandoned President Bush, who opposed it.

WHY MCCAIN DID NOT VOTE ON GI BILL YOU SPEAK OF:

McCain opposed the measure, as did the Pentagon, out of concern that providing such a benefit after only three years (3) of service would encourage people to leave the military after only one enlistment even as the U.S. fights two wars and is trying to increase the size of the Army and Marine Corps. McCain said he worried it would reduce the number of noncommissioned officers.

Instead, McCain and Republican colleagues proposed a bill of their own also increase benefits, but have it in conjunction with a veterans length of service.

As for the taxes statement, can you provide a source so I can read up on what you say? Thx.

          • Posted By: raddave @ 08/20/2008 3:41:50 AM

i was not talking only about the GI bill, I was also talking about other bills as well that he voted agains. Also, the GI bill is not a re-enlistment incentive, it is a V.A. benefit and soldiers are entitled to these benefits after three years of service and honorably discharged. Here is a link that documents McCanin votiing against the Bush tax cuts. http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2007-12-23-romney-mccain_n.htm and here http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/24/AR2008042403456.html

McCain has had since February to hone his campaign skills. McCain has had since February to form his committees and since then has been throwing people under the bus. McCain has had since February to develop his platform which he has not.

He doesn't want to be president. If he really wanted to be president he would have made a better name for himself while he had the opportunity to do so while Obama was battling Hillary (you all remember the one that was supposed to win). McCain would have righted the wrongs on his VA stances, he would have had a chance to address voting for a war that was wrong and will go down in history in infamy.

McCain doesn't want to be president. He just wants the title. He wants the perks that come along with it. He just wants power.

He doesn't want to be president. If he wanted to be president, he would be giving speeches on the socioeconomic issues the country and world faces which is what the leader of the free world is supposed to do; not stand in front of a crowd of people that already has money looking for a photo op.

If he wanted to be president he would be describing his policy on energy instead of throwing out a gas tax holiday or say he'd throw money at someone to come up with a battery idea that is already here. If he wanted to be president he would be stating his case to be president instead of attacking the person that wants to be president and perform the duties of that office.

Obama wants the job, not the title. He has already made the case to the people. He has already formed allegiances with other countries to deter and suppress terroristic activities and extremism. Obama has put his policies on the table and has let the people see them. He listens to those around him and is willing to work across the aisle to come to agreements on issues that affect us. Just ask Senators Hagel and Bachus.

    Vote Obama for President.

These are McCain's words in 2002. For all of you that don't see through the mud that McCain slings, or all the lies that he has spewed, read it for yourself.

"I didn't decide to run for President to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run campaign as if it was some grand act of patriotism.

I wanted to be President because it had become my ambition to become President.

I was 62 yold when I made the decision and I thought it was my one shot at the prize."

Again I say, McCain just wants the title, not the responsibilities.

Pres. Bush can't be that dumb. Bush just signed that if any doctors don't want to perform an abortion, they can't be held responsible. That means to these women who is mad because Hillary will not become the President, pro-choice has just gone out of the window. You women are so stupid it makes me mad. Don't you see that slowly you are loosing your rights. I am pro-life, but I am in no poistion to tell a woman what to do with her body. McCain camp said that Rev. Wright is fair game. Then I guess it is fair game to say that McCain said that he would not vote to make MLK birthday a national holiday because MLK was not patriotic. We need to attack McCain on that matter.

Even as Barack Obama proposes fiscally responsible tax reform to strengthen our economy and restore the balance that has been lost in recent years, we hear the familiar protests and distortions from the guardians of the broken status quo. Many of these very same critics made many of these same overheated predictions in previous elections. They said President Clinton's 1993 deficit-reduction plan would wreck the economy. Eight years and 23 million new jobs later, the economy proved them wrong

Once again, Holy Roller, Sharenews and all the McCain supporters still can't talk about why did McCain say "at one time, I too did not love America until I was deprived of her company!"
    Are you guys scared?

    • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 08/21/2008 6:17:25 PM

That goofy comment doesn't deserve a reply...but...I'm curious. Are you really that dumb??? Or just desperate? Ever hear..."you don't know what you have...until you lose it??? WEAK WEAK WEAK.

      NOBAMA!!!

      • Posted By: chindognyc @ 08/21/2008 7:23:37 PM

If it's so goofy, why don't you answer the question. I read one of your old comments where you talked about Michelle Obama. Why can't you talk about McCain anti-american comments. When it comes to McCain the question is goofy. You are so strange.

        • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 08/21/2008 7:40:54 PM

chinny chin chin...I did answer it. Have problems reading??? The comment was PRO-AMERICA. Where are you from? Are you one of Hussein's teenage Gaza bloggers?

          NOBAMA!!!

Let me say it in Romper Room style for you. WHY DID McCAIN SAY THAT AT ONE TIME HE TOO DID NOT LOVE AMERICA UNTIL I WAS DEPRIVED OF HER COMPANY. WHAT DID HE MEAN BY THAT. WHY WOULD HE HATE AMERICA UNTIL HE WAS IN TROUBLE.
Do you get it now? Answer that question because you are a roller. Your just rolling down the hill

The majority of Bush's time in the White House has been focused on spending money for a war that was unwarranted. Bush has put so much money in other countries that it is pitiful. Bush has snubbed the military time and time again by refusing to supply them with the supplies and personnel needed to win this illegitimate war. The vets have not had substantial care because Bush and his Administration has turned its back on them. Soldiers are committing suicide because there is no care. All this and McCain has supported Bush 110% on all this. He has not once said he felt duped with the intelligence. He has not one time opposed the cover ups. McCain is a Bush lapdog dressed up in a puppet suit with cable strings costing the tax payer billions more to support. We are already paying the cost of his Georgian counterparts because he would assume create a new cold war with his illicit behaviour coupled with the missile defense deal Rice has orchestrated with Poland. To think that this man should be leader is crazy. But hey, it takes crazy people to do it.

I like my mushroom clouds orange with grey sprinkles on top.

We already knew you liked mushroom clouds. Under an Obama presidency we will certainly get the chace to see what one looks like in a well populated American city.

Same old repugnant scare tactics. Remember 9/11 happened under a REPUGNANT president.

        • Posted By: loriw @ 08/21/2008 6:41:42 PM

But was planned and practiced under Clinton.

John McCain is running the same Karl Rove-style campaign that George W. Bush ran four years ago. He's avoiding issues and attempting to tear down Obama with personal attacks and fear mongering.

Not only has McCain voted with Bush 95% of the time, he's adopted the same political playbook. We've seen it all before, and we can't afford 4 or 8 more years of the same low road tactics and disastrous policies.

    • Posted By: SPORTLOCK09 @ 08/20/2008 2:50:15 PM

Ever consider the reason is because he has SO MUCH AMMO provided by Obama and his associates?
Nah, why would ya. The truth is too scary for your kind.

      • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 08/21/2008 1:25:22 AM

McCain has no ammo against Obama, which is why he's resorting to smears and lies. It's not working.

Correction........Not working with you. Secondly, lies can be easily proved false, IF, they are lies.
