"Today, CNN posted an article online summarizing the Tax Policy center's report comparing John McCain and Barack Obama's proposed tax plans. It is available here. The numbers are remarkable, but CNN failes to notice the obvious punchline: more than 85% of Americans will pay less in taxes under Obama than McCain."

There is no real way to prove that statement since we do not know how much it will take in increased taxes to pay for all of Sen. Obama's planned policies and healthcare.....

Senator Obama today addressed his relationship with Mr. Ayers. "The Mr. Ayers portrayed by Fox News is not the Mr. Ayers Michelle and I have known for the last twenty years. Mr. Ayers never mentioned that he is an unrepentant terrorist. When he told me years ago that he was sorry about his terrorist activities I thought that he meant that he was remorseful not that he was sorry his group did not kill more people. Had I known this, I would have distanced myself from him and his wife." Mr. Obama went on to bemoan the fact that Mr. Ayers is but the latest of several men to have disappointed him over the years. He said: "First it was my dad. I am still trying to find out how many brothers and sisters I have. Then it was my grandpa. Then it was my high school basketball coach. Then it was my law school mentor. Then Tony Resko. Then Bill Clinton. Then it was Reverend Wright. Then it was Father Pflagel. Then Reverend Jackson. Then Mayor Kilpatrick. Why does this keep happening to me?"

McCain was asked the exact same question, and I want to republish his response in full, because I think it offers a peek at McCain???s way of thinking.

???Some of the richest people I???ve ever known in my life are the most unhappy. I think that rich is ??? should be defined by a home, a good job and education and the ability to hand to our children a more prosperous and safer world than the one that we inherited. I don???t want to take any money from the rich. I want everybody to get rich. I don???t believe in class warfare or redistribution of the wealth. But I can tell you for example there are small businessmen and women who are working 16 hours a day, seven days a week that some people would classify as, quote, ???rich,??? my friends, who want to raise their taxes and raise their payroll taxes. Let???s have ??? keep taxes low. Let???s give every family in America a $7,000 tax credit for every child they have. Let???s give them a $5,000 refundable tax credit to go out and get the health insurance of their choice. Let???s not have the government take over the health care system in America.

???So I think if you???re just talking about income, how about $5 million. But seriously, I don???t think you can ??? I don???t think, seriously that ??? the point is that I???m trying to make here seriously ??? and I???m sure that comment will be distorted, but the point is ??? the point is ??? the point is that we want to keep people???s taxes low and increase revenues. And my friend, it was not taxes that mattered in America in the last several years. It was spending. Spending got completely out of control. We spent money in a way that mortgaged our kids futures. My friends, we spent $3 million of your money to study the DNA of bears in Montana. Now I don???t know if that was a paternity issue or a criminal issue, but the point is ??? but the point is it was $3 million of your money. It was your money.

Thanks for the plug for Senator McCain...He gave great answers all night...unlike the False Ones ...uh.....umm...uh...I think...umm...I...I...uh...uh thats above my pay grade. It was downright funny. Barry is a joke without his teleprompter...No wonder he is so afraid of McCain, one on one. His sissy side really shows through.

I heard a rumor today...The DNC Convention will feature a mohammed call to worship??? Is there any truth to this??? I sure hope so.

      But again...thanks for the plug.

sorry but I have to applaud anyone who is going after wasteful spending and the DNA of Bears seems to fit that bill.

    Dear Abby,

I am a crack dealer in Beaumont, Texas who has recently been
diagnosed as a carrier of HIV virus. My parents live in Fort Worth.
One of my sisters lives in Pflugerville and is married to a
transvestite. My father and mother have recently been arrested for
growing and selling marijuana. They are financially dependent on my
other two sisters, who are prostitutes in Dallas.

I have two brothers: one is currently serving a life sentence at
Huntsville for the murder of a teenage boy in 1994. My other brother is
currently in jail awaiting charges of sexual misconduct with his three
children. I have recently become engaged to marry a former prostitute
who lives in Longview. She is a part time (working girl).

All things considered, my problem is this. I love my fiancee and look
forward to bringing her into the family. I certainly want to be totally
    open and honest with her.

Should I tell her about my cousin who supports Barack Obama for
    President?

    Signed, Rashime

the best thing to do is for Obama to put hillary as the front runner. i feel that women cannot run this country the way a white man can, but a white woman would be better then Obama and his kind. we must really think about this.

  • Posted By: mikestone @ 08/21/2008 6:16:44 PM

we must keep Obama out of the white house. i don't care if mccain is for the rich and wealthy. i would rather suffer 4 more years then to have an obama or a sharpton in the white house. i don't care if Obama is for the poor and middle class. i don't care. if we put there kind in the white house, america will be viewed as weak.

    Just as a note -

I've been as guilty of letting the angry liars on here get my goat as anyone else, but I just want to say, the more I think about it, the more I'm sure that the right course of action is to ignore them.

These are not happy people. They're miserably angry and unhappy, putting on a show of laughter and condescension to try to anger people they dislike by tricking them into thinking they have no problems. Nobody with an honest life built on genuine principle feels the need to belittle other people and harass them - and there's a really salient point to make here. One of the few times I see people like Roller and Sportlock *genuinely* happy is when they have a group of people to condescend to. They mock, they laugh, then they congratulate themselves on belittling those who they're "superior" to.

But there's a trick. If we take ourselves out of the equation, that source of happiness goes away for them. We disengage, and suddenly they have nobody to latch on to and make themselves feel better about by disparaging. And that's the true weakness of people who define themselves by their hatred to others - you take away those others, and there's nothing left but an empty shell and probably a lot of feelings of emptiness.

So, God willing, I'm going to focus on the positives and stop engaging with them, even to "fight" the smears - it just gives them more ammunition to lie about. If we even respond to this nonsense, these people feel stabs of joy because we've given credulity to the attempts at being provocative and getting attention. I can't control anyone else's response, but I strongly urge the people that Roller, Sportlock, et al are trying to provoke to just shine it on - ignore them - and focus on the positives. We'll all do a lot better when we realize these are just empty people trying to get attention and give condescension to fill themselves up with something.

HE was Just TRYING TO DEFEND GEORGIA !!

    From Huff Post:

'...McCain Adviser Arrested Once For Gun Violation On Capitol Hill

John McCain's chief foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, is known for his aggressive posture on foreign policy, having served as an architect of the Iraq war and, more recently, a fierce supporter of and lobbyist for the former Soviet nation of Georgia.

But apparently he takes the notion of cowboy diplomacy to a new level. A Democratic source tipped off the Huffington Post that back in 1997, when he was serving as a top adviser to Sen. Trent Lott, Scheunemann was arrested by Capitol Hill police for a gun violation.

According to a Washington Times article from February 1997, Scheunemann was spotted by a police unit with a shotgun case through the window of his car. They stopped him to ask if the case contained an actual gun. It did. Moreover, Scheunemann had several rounds of ammunition as well.

"The congressional aide was arrested, taken to police headquarters, fingerprinted and charged with possession of an unregistered firearm (an unloaded 12-gauge) and unregistered ammunition (two rounds)," the story went. Scheunemann, who would spend several hours in jail before his release, would eventually plead guilty to a lesser charge and pay a $500 fine.

The McCain campaign declined to comment...'

As noted yesterday by former Clinton Treasury secretary Larry Summers, Republicans also warned in 1993 that Bill Clinton's tax increases that year would steer a faltering economy into deep recession. Instead, the economy took off, leading to the longest sustained period of economic growth in modern U.S. history and the largest budget surpluses ever. Indeed, if Obama is to be faulted for anything, it is his failure to address the burgeoning budget deficit, which is now approaching a half trillion dollars. Obama's tax plan would be a net drain on the Treasury, not a net tax increase.

What is particularly galling about the McCain ???celebrity??? ad & what Jon is too nice to mention is that McCain dumped his own ???real??? wife for a somewhat seamier version of Paris Hilton; the two women have the same looks, similar biographies & similar shallowness of character. For McCain to criticize Obama for being like his own wife is not just ironic; it???s creepy.

  • Posted By: chindognyc @ 08/21/2008 4:59:43 PM

Obama's tax plan is now set. He would raise taxes on the top two income tax brackets back to where they were during the Clinton administration. The top bracket would increase to 39.6 percent from the current 35 percent. But for any family earning below $250,000 in adjusted gross income, income taxes would be unchanged.

For earners over $250,000, capital gains and dividend tax rates would rise to 20 percent from the present 15 percent -- leaving them well below where they were during the Clinton years. The dividends rate in particular would remain basically where President Bush wants it, taxed at the same rate as capital gains, not as ordinary income, as was customary before Bush. In 10 years, incomes over $250,000 would face a Social Security surtax of between 2 percent and 4 percent. Those earnings now are not taxed by Social Security.

Under Obama's plan, most working class families would receive a net tax cut, thanks to a rebate for payroll taxes of $500 for individuals and $1,000 for couples.

If voters got a fair presentation of John McCain's economic plan, the idea of him winning the White House would cause mass panic.

The best thing to happen to John McCain was for the three network anchors to leave him in the dust this week while they chase Barack Obama on his global Lollapalooza tour. Were voters forced to actually focus on Mr. McCain's response to our spiraling economic crisis at home, the prospect of his ascension to the Oval Office could set off a panic that would make the IndyMac Bank bust in Pasadena look as merry as the Rose Bowl.

"In a time of war," Mr. McCain said last week, "the commander in chief doesn't get a learning curve." Fair enough, but he imparted this wisdom in a speech that was almost a year behind Mr. Obama in recognizing Afghanistan as the central front in the war against Al Qaeda. Given that it took the deadliest Taliban suicide bombing in Kabul since 9/11 to get Mr. McCain's attention, you have to wonder if even General Custer's learning curve was faster than his.

Mr. McCain still doesn't understand that we can't send troops to Afghanistan unless they're shifted from Iraq. But simple math, to put it charitably, has never been his forte. When it comes to the central front of American anxiety -- the economy -- his learning curve has flat-lined.

In 2000, he told an interviewer that he would make up for his lack of attention to "those issues." As he entered the 2008 campaign, Mr. McCain was still saying the same, vowing to read "Greenspan's book" as a tutorial. Last weekend, the resolutely analog candidate told The New York Times he is at last starting to learn how "to get online myself." Perhaps he'll retire his abacus by Election Day.

In an interview with McCain (and this was a while back), he was asked about Carly Fiorina's guilt to hiding profits that HP made to offshore bank accounts to avoid paying taxes. He said, she did the right thing and she was looking out for HP investors.
That is a crime and I can't believe that Carly Fiorina is McCain's top economic adviser. She should be in jail.

In '04, at the Republican National Convention, there were all of these people waving "Flip-Flop" thongs, mocking Kerry's supposed change of vote on a bill. Never mind that the bill had been modified, going through the approval process, as all bills do, it was Flip flop, flip flop, flip flop.... Now, a short 4 years later, McCain has reversed himself on Tax cuts for the wealthy, immigration, off shore drilling, evangelical ministers and not a peep from any Republicans. Amazing... how can those on the right be such hypocrites??? And to Dems are bad for America.. if you REALLY think we're safe with BushCo in office, that's pretty amazing. Our army is broken, our national treasure has been squandered and given away to Blackwater and other private companies via no bid/no responsibility contracts, and our nation is viewed as a joke by the rest of the world. Russia is mocking us, laughing their @sses off, knowing we no longer have the military forces to do ANYTHING to them! And Iran is stronger then ever, now that we've eliminated their #1 adversary, Iraq. This are FACTS, not talking points. Great job, Bush!

    • Posted By: Democrats are Bad for America @ 08/21/2008 4:09:04 PM

Iran is stronger....maybe. But U.S. Forces are not broken by any means....Bin Laden was empowered when Clinton pulled troops out of Somalia after Rangers were killed in the Blawk Hawk helicopter crash. "America is a paper tiger, they will never respond militarily to attacks because they don't want bodys in the street." Fast forward to today....600,000 battle hardened troops experienced in desert warfare, urban warfare, anti-terrorist operations. The tide has been turned in Iraq, and for those who have lost loved ones, the only regret for the vast majority of them is that they died for nothing.....in otherwards to pull out before Iraq can take care of itself. The anti-war movement would never fight for freedom at any costs (hence peace at any cost.) Let's be honest, if radical muslims have their way, and somehow achieve world domination, who would they execute first: gays and lesbians; second: non believers; well, that makes up 90% of the far left wing of the democratic party. As much as I don't particularly care for the far left wing, I don't want any harm to come to you, so I will fight to protect you, and I will shed my blood to give you the freedom to hate my and my president. It's the American thing to do.

To Cloudsmoke: McCain has not gone negative in my opinion, he has simply poked fun at Obama. McCain wants short term energy (drilling, oil shale) AND far term (development of alternative sources of energy, etc.) which I think is a good strategy. Drilling will not solve our energy problems and alone, and alternative sources won't provide any relief for at least 20 years. McCain has been to war and knows better than anyone what our troops will go through, so in my opinion, will not commit troops to combat unless absolutely necessary. What has Obama done? Give a good speech, so what? McCain has a lifetime of experience, Obama has done nothing that entitles him to be President. Obama is untried and inexperienced, and in the world today, we can't take that risk.

    • Posted By: Democrats are Bad for America @ 08/21/2008 11:46:09 AM

I sleep very well at night with Bush in charge, and will if McCain becomes President. If Obama becomes President, I will fear for the safety of my family, my community and my country. This man will not answer any threat with military force, and our enemies will take advantage of that. I know, Obama will sit down with our enemies, and show them the error of their ways being the wonderful statesman that he is, although he won't sit down with Sean Hannity for an interview. Please tell me about his extensive diplomatic experience that gives you comfort he'll be able to solve all the worlds problems. My God, if he is afraid to sit down with a radiotalk show host, how will he talk to dictators in Iran, North Korea and Russia? Besides, dems have no right to talk about negative stuff with all the crap you threw at Bush. I say again, IF YOU CAN'T TAKE IT, DON'T DISH IT OUT!!!!!!

A forked tongue if you will. McCain, Bush, Cheney, Rice, Powell, Chertoff, Rumsfeld, Gonzalez, Craig, DeLay and so and so on... too many to name, have stains upon stains of wronged American values and yet that doesn't bother you. There's no getting through to youse. You don't vote with your consciense, you vote because you have a stale, old ideological values.

That's time honored values....values that have America through very rough and troubled times. I find it amazing that you have not responded back to any issue I have raised about Obama except Bush lied, Cheney lied, Rice lied. Obama hasn't changed anything in his life, what's different now? Let's get to the chase...in 2000, dems lost by 914 votes....a small margin, but you lost. GET OVER IT. You're hatred of Republicans as only spurned Republicans like myself to hate you (I have not voted for a dem since 1996 and will never vote for another one, ever.) In my opinion, dems are self-centered, self-important, aristocratic and intellectually dishonest. We lost the House and Senate in 2006, and we got over it....you need to do the same.

      • Posted By: chindognyc @ 08/21/2008 1:37:21 PM

Since you feel that way, go and tell those families that lost a love one to the Iraq war that you feel good about how things are. Tell the middle class family that have lost a house and might become poor that you are happy with Bush and McCain. Are you happy that Cheny took advantage of the Iraq war to put his company as the only contractor to work out in Iraq and to make him billions? You must like the fact that since this race, McCain has tested Obama's care for America that it has gone to a black and white issue. I guess you must be in the top 1% and don't want to pay your fair share of taxes and would rather the middle class and poor to pay it all.

      • Posted By: ShelW @ 08/21/2008 12:20:38 PM

"dems have no right to talk about negative stuff with all the crap you threw at Bush. I say again, IF YOU CAN'T TAKE IT, DON'T DISH IT OUT!!!!!!"
Typical Republican response. No difference between dems talking about legitimate follies and illegal acts by Bush, and lies told by McCain to win the election. They are both "negative" comments, so they must be equal and the same.

Glad you sleep well at night. Russia is laughing their @sses off, knowing that our army is tapped out and broken, thanks to Cheney/Bush, Iran is now stronger then ever, now having an ally in Iraq instead of a nation it had to spend it's resources fighting with, and our national treasure is squandered, with us owing billions to China. Prior to Regean (all Repubs bow three times with arms outstretched), the U.S. was the largest CREDITOR nation in the world. Now, we are the largest DEBTOR nation in the world.

Hey Bad for America... just curious... what would it take for you to NOT sleep well if after these 8 years, when the general argument is, is Bush the WORST president EVER, or only ONE OF THE WORST... you still sleep soundly?

    • Posted By: Cloudosmoke @ 08/21/2008 11:14:22 AM

Dress it however you like if it makes you sleep better at night. Fact is fact, opinion is opinion. Fact is McCain will use the Presidency as a tool to carve out history for his own glory. He has stated his reasons to run for Presidency. Here, let me remind you yet again.

These are McCain's words in 2002. For all of you that don't see through the mud that McCain slings, or all the lies that he has spewed, read it for yourself.

"I didn't decide to run for President to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run campaign as if it was some grand act of patriotism.

I wanted to be President because it had become my ambition to become President.

I was 62 yold when I made the decision and I thought it was my one shot at the prize."

Obama could have waited til he was 62 but has put himself on the stage regardless of the dangers he faces for himself and his family because he believes in America and her Glory.

McCain has nothing authentic about himself. McCain has flop flipped and flip flopped and flop flipped and flip flopped more times than can be counted among the stars.

'No off shore drilling... ok off shore drilling to win the election.'

'No to timetable in Iraq... ok as long as it gets me into office. We can stay there when I'm elected.'

'100 years in Iraq... ok 16 months like Obama said as long as I'm the one to be elected. I can go back on my word when I win.'

'I support pork barrel spending... oops, I meant I was against it as long as I'm elected to office.'

'Bush is right all the time... No, Bush is wrong as long as I get to replace him.'

McCain, the same old politician. Nothing new, nothing different.

      Vote Change.

You bet I saw him. I watched both the Obama and McCain Saddleback church forum in which Obama went on first (coin toss) and answered all the questions and McCain did the same. The format in which it was presented leaves no doubt in my mind now given how McCain stood out when compared to Obama. In strength, compassion and love for his country, in knowledge and wit. He stood out based on his answers vs. Obama that McCain is a man of character and strength and proven accomplishments in Washington to serve as our POTUS. Im anxious to see who he selects to run with him. Same with Obama.

      • Posted By: chindognyc @ 08/20/2008 1:39:39 AM

Even though McCain cheated and heard the answers before coming on.

        • Posted By: loriw @ 08/20/2008 2:00:01 AM

I watched the forum twice and each time I was looking for any indication that either had been given the questions before hand. Sorry just didn't see any evidence of either getting and advantage. If anything it seemed that Warren seemed more friendly with Obama. Warren did admit that he gave some indication to Sen. Obama ahead of time the adoption question would be asked. Even if you don't believe McCain, Warren stated he did not believe that McCain had listened to any part of the forum before arriving or while at the church. I don't think Warren would risk his credibility covering for McCain.

          • Posted By: chindognyc @ 08/20/2008 2:24:30 AM

sorry Loriw, when Obama was on, McCain was still heading to the Forum. It was already on the news. McCain said he did lie and pretend that he was in the room, but he never heard anything. Why would McCain lie and say he was in the quiet room when he was still heading to the Forum.

OMG. McCain had a group of US secret service people with him and another group of people from the Saddleback church with him on his trip to the event. He had no access to any of the questions or answers that Obama went on stage to answer (at the flip of a coin as to who goes first). Next thing Im going to hear is that the coin had a double-faced two tails (or two heads) on it so that McCain would win either way to go last. Crazy talk. I think the Obamabots are Coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs. Lmao.

PS: And I am sure that McCain getting a lot more sleep and resting up while Obama was in Hawaii contributed . . . he looked very good also . . . more rested.

Funny that you say Obama took a week off. McCain takes the weekend off and Obama is campaigning during the weekend. I don't hear you saying anything about that. McCain is staying in one of his 6 houses wearing his over 500 dollar shoes, or maybe he is flying in one of his wife's private jet. I wonder what happened to his poor first wife that he left.

Chin, he had Cindy pay her off to keep her quiet.

            LORIW:

"I watched the forum twice and each time I was looking for any indication that either had been given the questions before hand. Sorry just didn't see any evidence of either getting and advantage." And yet two sentences later, you write;"Warren did admit that he gave some indication to Sen Obama ahead of time the adoption would be asked."

You ruled out your own argument. Warren helped barry. Whether it was a hint or a whisper or whatever. barry was given a heads up = advantage. End of story.

          chindognyc,

Obomobots love to blame his talk of substance at the Saddleback forum on McCain knowing the questions. It is to painful to think otherwise. LOL. I say McCain was in his element (he even looked great, too, caught up on sleep while Obama was on vacation) because he was in his type of platform in which he excels in and what is most important to me as a voter. He stood out compared to the usual rhetorical orator, who is used to talking AT people (his comfort area), albeit being inspiring if you happen to be young, uninformed, vulnerable to Hope and Change (with no proof of substance), elite or just plain drinking the Obama juice.

doesn't all that pandering make you feel all warm and squishy. all his do good crap are just lies he's just another neocon jackass who will tear public institutions asunder just to sell them off to private companies. "but he loves Jesus!" and hates the poor. I know great qualities for a republican

barry admitted to "cheating" about adoption and researching it. Vacation in Hawaii? It was barry's cramming session. How often did barry give a definitive answer?

President Obama will wash away the sins of Yankee Imperialism, hirsutism, nationalism, hypogonadism, militarism, botulism, racism, priapism , fascism, albinism, conservatism, sensationalism, Republicanism, hyperthyroidism, sexism, stoicism, individualism, Darwinism, capitalism, empiricism, jingoism, Romanticism, and industrialism.

Its too bad that Obama cannot wash away your ignorance

raddave, do I have your permission to smack some sense into Jose? Say yes.

Not Romanticism, please, no... All you need is love...not another war which McCain is just itching to start.
