Monday night, Fox News Channel aired the first of two presidential candidate documentaries called "Character and Conduct." First up: Barack Obama, whose documentary pretends really hard that it's not full of stereotypes and insinuations! Couldn't stomach it Monday evening? We've got it for you in a minute: http://www.236.com/news/2008/08/19/fox_news_obama_documentary_in_8367.php

Ahhh, the Daily Kos and Ariana would be proud. Fox may not be always "balanced" but, liberals just can't take it that there is only ONE source of opinions that don't make Obama everyone's darlinig of the Internet ... funny thing is there is a reason why Fox dominates all news sources. Because all news sources are more like the National Enquirer than the "news" anymore. I can't wait for the NY Times to enjoy the fruits of the same labor that MSNBC faces, what a joke in a minute, haha

      • Posted By: metzlerd @ 08/20/2008 9:14:21 AM

Even MSNBC is more Fair and Balanced by a long shot than FOX where it is just one big commercial for people that view lying as simply an accepted tactic. They make up the news based on whatever they are told by the Republicans or the Bush administration, and even after it is debunked they continue.

        There are no excuses.

        • Posted By: thetruthseeker2008 @ 08/20/2008 1:11:59 PM

Look at the headlines. MSNBC is going completely "left." LIke they were not already. Their parent company NBC has been doing a great job of that. Let's say that you actually believe (which you do) that Fox leans right. Well if that was the case, IT IS THE ONLY OUTLET THAT DOES. Why do you think they kick everyone's butt including MSNBC by 10 fold! Anyway, MSNBC today revealed that they just kicked out their final and only conservative (right or whatever you want to call them) opinionist. So now it can be 24/7 Oberman & Company, Woo hoo!

    Lee,
while I agree that often it is useful to rely on third parties for more data I think one must also use one's own common sense in looking at the conclusions. If we spend $100 billion in Iraq in 2009 and $100 billion in Afghanistan in 2009 to keep the Taliban out then we will have to do that. That constitutes $200billion in total. If we pull out of Iraq then we only spend $100 billion. Unless you are saying that we are not currently spending enough in Afghanistan because of all the money going to Iraq.
It is important to recognize that Obama isnt saying we will wipeout deficits anytime soon. Our monthly deficit was around $100 billion last month and that is not going to magically disappear. But shaving $10 billion a month is a significant reduction to it.

Ah,but porkbarrel spending even divorced from my earlier reply to METZLERD will consume all and more of such a savings, and as we saw, spending in these other areas to keep the US out of another war deemed ''unneccesary''will consume more than even this.

The real distortion is in McCain's ads, for instance saying that Obama would raise taxes for thoses earning $42,000 or more--when Obama's plan calls for tax REDUCTIONS for those earning less than $150,000 and increases ONLY for incomes greater than $250,000 That's more than a distortion. That's an incredibly misleading lie. (The $250,000 gate also holds for any increase in dividends or capital gains taxes as well. 95% of Americans are NOT impacted.) Where is Newsweek on reporting McCain's lies and distortions?

    • Posted By: thetruthseeker2008 @ 08/19/2008 5:42:11 PM

So you are saying that the 5% that pay 90% of the taxes in the U.S. (business owners and people that have worked hard to make it) are responsible for socialistic redistribution of wealth? I got news for ya. Those that make money will take it off shore and know how to work around the system. And businesses will close making it harder for your $42K wage earner to work when they are unemployment. The Dems have road the power wagon on the backs of the middle class and poor for years to stay in power while they jet off in private planes and limos touting "green america." Americans are finally waking up. The ONLY reason Obama exists is because of Bush botching the White House. I can't wait until the Dems have the White House, Senate, and House (right now 9% approval rating). Where is the balance of power and checks and balances? It's time for a 3rd party. Enough of the Democraps bullcrap.

      • Posted By: metzlerd @ 08/20/2008 11:22:26 AM

The top 5% does not pay even 90% of the taxes.
They are down around 40%, and that is only if you're counting income tax.

If you are talking capital gains the top 3% (200K and up) pay about 80% of the Capital gains tax collected, but that's not surprising since only 8% of people who make less than 75K even have any Capital Gain income at all. X% of $0 is still $0.

If you are talking Social Security, it's even less true.

      • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 08/19/2008 6:15:19 PM

Spoken like a true ignoramous. The country was never better under the last democrat - Clinton - and we even had a budget SURPLUS. Can you imagine that?

Why do you think the "5% who pay 90% of the taxes" (according to you) would be involved in wealth redistribution? We live in a Republic - a Democracy - not a communist state. You don't have to worry. But our tax system is designed to pay for a war that 90% of the people DON'T WANT - so how do you justify that? We get so little for our taxes, it's quite shocking.

I guess you're part of the McCrass upper class of bourgeois bigots who thinks anything left of the Far Right is "communist" or you're afraid that a Black man as our leader will take us down that path. Why don't you go do some research and educate yourself. For someone living in the "greatest country in the world' you sure have a long ways to go.

Right, and all you and your ilk have done is bash him, his wife, his policies and his private life. You denigrate the good he has done since leaving office and castigate him for the money he has earned yet, at the same time, you make excuses for the questionable associations of Obama and anything else Obama related. So, you are a hypocrite and a fool and, if Obama becomes prez, are you in for a shock when utopia doesn't materialize because it can't. And that's because of imperfect human nature which I assume includes you.

        • Posted By: thetruthseeker2008 @ 08/19/2008 6:38:45 PM

Hey genius, not that it's your business but I AM black. Who the hell are you to tell me about race? Clinton did well under a REPUBLICAN congress. And our Country was heading into a recession when he turned over the reins to Bush. Bush was a screw up. No doubt. And I am not Republican. But I will not have an ignorant discussion about this. Obama is a pupet. But you won't understand this. I am of color. And if you are brown, black, white, who cares? Actually a Woman should have been the nominee for your Party.

Why is everyone making such a big deal about McCain and his POW status? Was he the only one there? Was he the only one that was offered a deal to leave and chose to stay? The answers to this question is NO. Hundreds of POW's faced the same decisions and responded the same way he did. Why is he the only one considered a hero? Let's take a look at all the other pilots that were shot down and suffered, and take a bigger look at the ones who were skilful enough to do their jobs and NOT get shot down. Put this in perspective. John McCain did not do anything extraordinary, he just did his job. Yes, his service to his country is appreciated, but there are thousands more who suffered greater than he did, and some never made it out. Let's not forget that. I was also one of the lucky ones.

It's all in our heads, which is the official McCain camp approach to Americas economy. Not only does he not have a clue on our economy, neither do his advisers and ones he's appointed to help him understand the economy.

    • Posted By: baseball @ 08/19/2008 3:40:24 PM

McCain answers questions and doesn't avoid them like Obama does. McCain has wisdom, esperience and love for his country which will do him well as President. McCain has shown his endurance, strength, valor and so much more when he was a POW. Not many of us could come close to giving to our country what he has given. He will be a great President.

      • Posted By: metzlerd @ 08/20/2008 9:04:58 AM

Sitting in a POW Prison, and making a sacrifice for your country is a great and honorable thing.
So is jumping into a burning house to save a child.
So is leaping into a frozen lake to save a drowning fisherman.
So is carrying your injured fellow soldier out through a hale of gun fire.

All of these are honorable things. However not one of them indicates somebody who would make a good President. You can't run an economy without some intelligence and understanding of the economy. You can't even fight a war without some understanding of strategy and game play.

If all the duties of a President entailed were the ability to sit there in a POW camp and take abuse, then you might be right, and McCain might be a fine choice. Under those circumstances we could forgo the debates and simply have the Republicans physically abuse the candidates and see which one lasted the longest.

The reality is that wouldn't tell us who is smarter, wiser, or who is the best at leading a country.

      • Posted By: metzlerd @ 08/20/2008 8:46:25 AM

Old does not equate to wisdom. The one thing McCain has not shown is either intelligence or wisdom.

Let's abolish the IRS and adopt the FAIRTAX Act proposed by Congressman John Linder.. Abolish the IRS and pay a national sales tax instead. Go to FairTax.org for more information. Which ever candidate stands behind getting this act into law gets my vote. Obama doesn't know what it is and McCain doesn't like the FairTax. WHY??? You Bums better listen. America is tired of government taking our hard earned money & squandering it. You think a million man march was bad. We need a million man march with ropes to descend on washington to make you idiots listen and hang the one's that don't! If I don't perform well at my job I'd get fired and wouldn't get paid. Maybe if congress and the senate didn't get paid they'd listen up.

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 08/20/2008 8:41:03 AM

"Maybe if the Senate and Congress didn't get paid..."
      - Yeah right! Who do you think sets their pay?
I'm not saying I disagree with that, but... not likely.

I think congress and the senate need to change the rules for getting things done that essentially makes it easier to get things done even if those things are bad things. Right now it's to easy to get gridlocked. Lets face it. Take abortion:
The pro-lifers want to strip the mother of all power to make decisions about her own health and the health of her child. They want to legislate morality all in the name of treating a single cell as a human individual with human rights because that cell might develop into a human. Why? Because birth is a miracle of god.

The pro-choicers don't see things the same way, and believe no one has the right to take decision away from the mother. Choices like that should be left between the parents and God.

The truth is those two sides will never agree, and many politicians use that to get nothing done. It is better that they not be able to stop things from getting done, and focus on making what does get done as good as possible.

Unfortunately I'm at a loss as to how to do that.

    This bugs me factcheck.

WHERE ARE YOU CHECKING MCCAINS LIES AND DISTORTIONS. JUST BECAUSE YOU CHOOSE NOT TO BRING THEM UP DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE NOT THERE.

One big difference here on this fact check. OBAMA DID NOT LIE. The comments he used may be old BUT THEY ARE THE TRUTH.

MOST OF MCCAINS ARE LIES. THAT IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

SHOVE YOUR OPINION AND TELL US THE FACTS. START TALKING THUTH AND LIES AND SAVE YOUR OPINION. YOU ARE TRYING TO PUT YOUR OPINION OUT AS FACT. AND THAT IS JUST PLAIN BULL

    • Posted By: lbebout1 @ 08/19/2008 9:06:18 PM

Obama's own website Fight the Smears uses factcheck.org to prove that he isn't the one lying. They have gotten information both ways.

      • Posted By: metzlerd @ 08/20/2008 7:32:03 AM

A factcheck is not accurate because it says it is. It is accurate when it is able to point out falsehoods and show why they are false.
The lies about Obama are not lies because somebody says they are. They are lies because they are based off of falsehoods. When factcheck.org says Obama is not a Muslim and points out that he was baptised in a Christian church, that shows that somebody lied.

When factcheck.org points out that Obama could not have been the reason for high gas prices precisely because he was not in Washington when those gas prices started rising, that points out a lie.

When factcheck.org says that McCain is being distorted because his comments on the economy were from January and this is August, that doesn't really say much at all. He is still in the same contest he was in January. The economy was bad in January as it is now. If McCain is starting to change his tune now, that is more likely to do with polls than any sudden epiphany on the economy.

Regardless, McCain said what he said during this race, and it was not distorted at all..

That's because the Democrats are so hell bent and power hungry to take over every element in Washington that they will do whatever and say whatever they need to and get it done. Obama has viciously attacked everyone in his own party from Hiliary to his own comrades in Chicagoland to get them thrown out and off the ticket. This man and machine is as corrupt as Chicago politics. Bush only wishes he could be as crafty as the money laundering capital of the U.S. But the election is not about Bush as much as the Dems would like it to be. The Manchurian Candidate, I mean Obama will rep the Dems well in their Power hungry agenda. Seek and destroy is their mission. Yet it is portrayed as such a "love fest" that people deserve what they elect. You want to elect someone that is great on a teleprompter, great at rallies, and good on YouTube without the qualifications, Go ahead morons! I think no one should be allowed to vote without knowing the facts and the issues. You certainly can't get that from most media soundbite sources cuz they just want the headline and not the facts.

lies, lies, lies, lies, lies......that is Barack Hussein Obama in a nutshell. I do believe this man is someone no one knows; is he a sleeper? Thee is a good chance that he is; he spent most of his youth (when one is very impressionable and brainwashed easily) in Muslim Indonesia and his step father with who he lived was radical as is his brother who ls in Kenya; his father was also a radical and had a Muslim funeral. He does not like white; and Howard Dean said on NationalPublic Radio last Friday that the white party (he meant Republican Party).....and then he corrected himself. Obama scares the hell out of me and my friends and relatives. He is bad for America and would not be able to successfully answer that 3 a.m. call. If he does become president (God forbid), please give the phone to his V.P.

    • Posted By: raddave @ 08/20/2008 4:13:19 AM

you are paranoid because you believe anyone who is a muslim is a radical. Obama is not a muslim, his father was atheistic when Obama was born. his step father was marginally muslim. Obama's half-brother may be a radical muslim, but that would have nothing to do with Obama because they weren't raised together. Yours and others closedmindedness scares the hell out of me.

Dude IT Dan - this is from a very conservative newspaper like the Washington post. You will believe what you will because you have already made up your mind for whatever reason. If you walked in and saw McCain on top of your wife, you will be complaining that Obama was to blame.

    • Posted By: Lee Holmes @ 08/19/2008 6:50:56 PM

The Washington Post is not a conservative newspaper. It is centrist. None of its following chief columnists and reporters is a conservative.

      Dana Milbank
      Gene Washington
      Dana Priest
      David Ignatius
      Tina Brown
      Michelle Singleterry
      Colbert King[Editorial Board]
      David Broder
      E J Dionne
      Anne Kornblut

      These few contributors are:

      Charles Krauthammer
      George Will

Agreed Lee. The Post is more centrist than conservative. I think traditional would have been the best word here on hindsight.

McCain has been distorting the facts for months. McCain still thinks what Obama quoted him as saying.

This partisan article is just more pro-GOP bias from the mainstream media, the same bias that fooled people into voting for a horrible president in 2000 and 2004. Don't let it happen again.
