I agree 100 percent with you , when I read the article I thought this is close to my feelings about people who wear flip flops in public

You ARE "The Man". In addition to the shoes being extremely ugly it would seem like they would be sloshy for those people who have a fair amount of foot perspiration. To each his own.

It is kind of lame that you encourage your son to make fun of others because of their shoes. Even more lame, however, is you pulling out the trump card of war and poverty as an excuse to put down others for responding angrily to "dorky" shoes that you yourself wrote an article about. This has nothing to do with war or poverty. I don't wear crocs, I think they look stupid on adults. My kids wear them though. They are durable, easy to put on, cool on hot feet in summer time, and comfortable. So...poo on you.

Childhood is the best time to encourage our children to make fun of others. How else will they know how to dress and how to act as the reach adulthood. It's the adults who wear crocs now, the unfortunate souls, who were never taught that lesson. "So...poo on you."

You are hysterical!! I think you are the literary version of Andy Rooney! Rock on!!

I can't believe farm girl12 even has a computer with such fascinating abuses of the English language. This obviously drives home the point that croc wearers are dorks. I commend you for allowing your son to poke "gentle" fun at them. In fact, if I had children I would do the same. Please dont ever cave and buy a pair- my head may explode.

I wonder if you've noticed the new Crocs commercial that sells itself on this very point, that it sure does invoke a lot of emotion. It sure caught my attention with it starting out with someone ranting on about them, only to be suddenly interspersed with someone singing it's praises, and back and forth for a while. There's also apparently a commercial of a guy screaming in frustration at them before abusing the shoe. It's a bit of an amusing sort of advertising, you can find a few examples on You Tube.

"stirring the pot with the stick of America." That may be my favorite. When I see somebody wearing Crocs, I tend to throw up in my mouth a little bit, and I fear for the future of fashion in our society. Still, the only thing I think that's worse than Crocs are those shoes with the wheels in the bottom. Everytime I see a parent pulling their wheely child around the mall I look for a stick that I can throw in front of them.

I thought your article was great. My boss wears crocs into the office with his shorts when he is going to go play golf. I tell him "What legs!" and don't mention the crocs. That may be why I'm not the highest paid in the office next to his two pets who "suck up" all the time. There are a lot of ignorant people in this world and I often wonder how they survive. Then I wonder what's wrong with me. I am surely rude, crude and socially unacceptable. I guess I am because I don't fit in with the rest of the idiots. What's a sane, reasonably intelligent person supposed to do? Perhaps I should give it up and go buy some crocs.

The article was absolutely wonderful. It made me laugh and brightened my day. These people who are that "serious" about Crocs need to chill. Geez! it's one man's opinion. One would think there was a Presidential Campaign resting on the outcome of this article with all the negativity that's surrounding it.
I say keep up the good work and keep me laughing.
To the others who have nothing better or larger things to worry about...Get a life, it was only an article for our amusement and one man's opinion.

    JOEBLOWW,

HAHA! I agree...some people really shouldn't wear flip flops. DAMN! CUT YOUR NAILS!

Ah, so that's what they call those ugly little shoes, Crocs (sorry mom)! Though I haven't read your article on The Case Against Crocs, it's apparent to me that you are a fabulous writer. I enjoy finding like-minded people and can see we share the same sense of humor. It???s almost amazing what some people find offensive these days, from an article about Crocs to the 200-lb My Sweet Lord chocolate sculpture.

Thanks for making my morning with your article titled "Readers Fend off a Croc Assault"; it's always good to start the day off with a laugh. One of the best laughs came from the abbreviated heading on my browser tab; Readers Fend Off a Croc Ass... You don't seem like a Croc Ass to me; be glad for that. Newsweek must appreciate having a writer like you on their staff.
    Peace & Blessings,
    Cookie Lombardo

well dude, when you write meaningless fluff, you'll garner the attention of the mass ignorance. what did you expect? your topic was as relevant as britney's latest hairdo. and of course, since most americans know everything about nothing, while knowing nothing about anything, you got the brunt of their frustrations. omg! rubber shoes? gimme a break. they should issue them for free to everyone on earth who doesn't have shoes. who cares if they're ugly. what's uglier is the stoney-rock-toes stickin' out of every pair of flip-flops i see in my office right now. crocs, while goofy looking, conceal some major ped-hygiene issues. ick.

you must be loving the response as a writer though, huh? kinda makes you want to switch from Newsweek to Cosmo doesn't it!!

Truly, this column makes my day at times! Oh, and I am Anti-Croc.... PS... Please marry me!

I loved both of your articles. I am definately not a Croc fan either. They are the dorkiest looking shoes ever. I've never posted a comment on anything, but I just couldn't resist this time and yes I am at work. I agree with the others, America has lost its sense of humor. Lighten up people, if your going to wear the ugly things your going to take some ribbing even if you don't know it. Several of my friends wear Crocs and I make fun of them, but they laugh and keep wearing them..............Yeah Steve!! You are a great writer and kudos for spending time with your son. I'll be looking for more of your articles.

All the people that had negative things to say about the article have way too much time on their hands. I mean I thought this was America where if you didnt like something you could say so? Personally I see no need for those clown shoes unless you work in a hospital. They seem like they are easy on easy off and a very washable item for a sterile enviroment. Other than that, come on people, they do really look stupid and if you wear them out in public, people are laughing at you.

Okay, in a world where lack of taste has got us looking to Amy Winehouse as a cultural icon and claims Lil'Wayne's musing on a par with scripture; how do you not expect people to love Crocs. It's true that they're comfortable (you're wearing a sponge), but they're uglier than a bowling shoe. Of course, wearing bowling shoes is another popular fashion trend. Look around you clowns are everywhere. Hey, I'm "publicated."

Scary ... people are schizo making those kinds of threats and hateful remarks, when I read your 1st article on the rubber shoes I thought it was humourous, I couldn't keep from laughing so hard because my opinion on the shoes are the same ... I also agree with you the BIG FOOT shoes are UGLY ... Steve keep up your creative writing ... I enjoy reading your articles.
