Ah, so that's what they call those ugly little shoes, Crocs! Though I haven't yet read your article on The Case Against Crocs, it's apparent to me that you are a fabulous writer with an incredible sense of humor. I enjoy finding other like-minded people and can see we share the same sense of humor. Thanks for making my morning with your article titled "Readers Fend off a Croc Assault"; it's always good to start the day off with a good laugh. One of the best laughs came from the abbreviated heading on my browser tab; Readers Fend Off a Croc Ass... You don't seem like a Croc Ass to me; be glad for that. Hope Newsweek appreciates having a writer like you on their staff.
    Peace & Blessings,
    Cookie Lombardo

LOL..I love how people get "offended" over an article about hideous clown looking shoes! Hello! Lighten up people! Have you really taken a look at them...really?? They may be comfortable, but you look like freakin dorks! And if you want to wear them in public, deal with the fact that people WILL make fun of you. Get over it!
Steve, you are hilarious! I loved the first article and I too would marry you!

  • Posted By: rabbit51 @ 08/21/2008 9:18:34 AM

I also wondered what the big deal was with the funny rubber shoes and made fun of people who wore them, silently of course. Until I tried a pair and now understand the love of crocs. I try not to wear them in public too much.............signed "A closet dorky croc wearer!"

I liked the first article about hating Crocs and i like this one just as much. I can't believe so many people were upset about an article that was about shoes. It was meant to be funny and i laughed out loud at it as well as at this article. If they don't like what you wrote then they don't have to read it. The funny thing is, all those poeple who read the first article and commented about it and want to do you harm will read this article and say the same things. All the while giving you more fame and more reasons for Newsweek to keep you on staff. You are hilarious! I look forward to your article about people who talk on cell phones while they are in the bathroom...I bet it will be a hit!

appreciated the first article & lol - yes, @ work!! read a few of the comments & thought a lot of folks need to get a sense of humor or lose some of the anger (waste of energy). didn't comment before just because i do have a sense of humor & little anger, but just had to now 'cause THIS article is even better . . . will be watching for more!

People need to get a life!! They are just a pair of shoes that some think are comfy and other think they're a heresy to fashion !! I checked out some high-heeled crocs and they're pretty ugly. I'm just glad that it made someone happy in the end. ( P.S I thought the first article was hilarious!)

  • Posted By: rabbit51 @ 08/21/2008 9:16:33 AM

I thought they are dorky also and really made fun of everyone wearing them, silently of course. Until I actually tried a pair and now I am hooked. I do try not to wear them in public too much.......another secret croc wearing dork!

I didn't comment on the first article, but I was one of the Friday web readers whose day you were hoping to brighten. You succeeded-- I guffawed! I asked my husband to read it, as I can definitely picture him sitting with our future children on a bench somewhere pointing out the dork families too :) Great first article and fabulous follow up. Better get back to work so I can make money to start "raisin" my future kids.

i still think Newsweek can do better. Crocs are not news, and Newsweek should know better. I know there is actual printworthy news out there

I hate Crocs. I hate people who whine about Crocs. I hate people who whine about people who whine about Crocs. I support the right for people to look stupid. I refuse to talk to stupid looking people. I want my two minutes back.

Can you add people who insist on wearing their bluetooth earpieces constantly, even when they aren't on the phone to your list of topics?

    • Posted By: Ian426 @ 08/21/2008 9:13:53 AM

But... it makes them look so important! So Businesslike! So... 21st century! So up to date with the times! Losers like you just need to leave the dinosaurs and accept the fact that bluetooth earpieces are the way of the future. It's not like they are hideous abominations that appear to grow out of people's ears, blinking annoyingly and scaring little children! Of course not! I have no clue what you could be thinking, whatsoever.

    • Posted By: cdkritzm @ 08/21/2008 9:11:50 AM

I totally agree. People who wear their bluetooth earpieces when not on the phone are complete idiots. My latest pet peeve are people who wear their sunglasses on back of their head.

A pox on all those people who cursed your article! I am 100% on your side and so would most Brits be. Don't want to slate the sense of humour of most Americans but - well, I guess that's exactly what I am doing and those toothless cretins have only themselves to blame! Crocs are PANTS!!!! In the British sense of the word, so knickers, not trousers - well, we think it's funny anyway! If you'd written that story for us Brits you would have been celebrated as a hero. Write for us next time if you can! I would just like to point out before I get a barriage of abuse that I am only putting down those imbeciles that thought a negative opinion about Crocs was worth all the abuse. I do realise that not all my cousins across the pond are humourless cretins with no sense of irony. For those that are, I don't care about offending you, for those that aren't - keep on with the good work and spread the word! Thanks, from a chic in London.

Well, I hate those shoes!!! But, I have a pair (yea!...I know). They make great shoes to wear swimming and for tubing down the hooch.....and that's about it.

By the overwhelming number of negative responses you received, America is sadly lacking a sense of humor. You are a brilliant writer of satire and I couldn't stop laughing. I shared your article with everyone I could think whether they wore Crocs or not. I have not purchased them myself, but do keep looking at the Olive Green ones at Sport Chalet. Unfortunately, they would make my size 11's look even more clown-like. Can't go there...

I read your first article and was excited to see you had a rebuttle to everyone who posted before. I wear crocs and they are the most comfortable shoe I own. With that being said I wear them incognito. I loved your orginal article, it was a great laugh at the exact right time. People need to lighten up it was a light hearted article. Does everyone have to bring up war and hunger everytime something fun is written? If all we did is dwell on these 2 things I think we would all end up horribly depressed. Thanks again for the laugh! I look forward to your rants to come.

I've been noticing these controversial web stories lately about which musicians should quit playing music and also those poking fun at the fads people love. People get riled up but that's good, right? Like high ratings. I wrote a comment after the first crocs story to say I disliked crocs and then I forgot about it. Glad to say the be-all and end-all of my universe is not shoes, though my husband would disagree.

  • Posted By: HannahA @ 08/21/2008 9:08:35 AM

I love it. I read the article that day and I was amused by all the people freak'n out about it. I just can't believe that so many people would lash out after reading an article about shoes, REALLY?. I'll be honest, I own a pair. I got them before everybody on earth went and bought them. Everybody that saw me said, "Those have got to be the ugliest shoes ever." Then, what do you know, they are all over the place. I quit wearing them just because well, I'm one that doesn't like to be like everyone else, and now I slip them on when i need to take out the trash and water my plants. I don't think you are an idiot or a bad father. It was an article PEOPLE!!! I laugh at the critics who said that you should find more important things to write about with all the issues going on in the world....I just want to tell them, with all the crap going on in the world, you're the ones getting your panties in a wad over an article about crocs? COME ON GUYS!!! Carry on...I'm looking forward to your next article.
