Wow, this was better than the original article. LOVED IT!!! Since a moment with your son seemed to inspire you to write this article, then there should be many more successful articles to come. Best wishes and props to your great use of sarcasm. Tell your son I think he is hilarious too!

Maaaan, the piece about the crocs was funny, but this? This takes the cake, c'mon! What's with you , people? It's meant to be funny, have a laugh, after all...he's not asking you to give up your Crocs..or is the last article making you reconsider looking dorky as opposed to being comfortable? I myself do not wear them--I think they are downright awful and plain ugly--but don't fault the dorks, I mean people...sorry, who wear them

    Have a nice day...

    LOL!
    THis was funny.
I did not care for the first article but this one was funny.
I wear those shoes too becasue they are the only ones I can wear because of a foot problem.
IT is a genetic thing and my mother has to wear them too
I think they are ugly and I tried to avoid them but what can you do?
I personally thought your first article was a little bit over the top but this one was funny
I just can't believe that people would waste time to write all those things
I kind of like the shoes for wearing them at home. Not in puplic becasue they are ugly.
If that makes me a dork so be it. At least I can laugh about it and not cyber bully journalists when they
puplish their opinion in this land of the free!!!!!!

Nothing wrong with railing against Crocs. The article just wasn't funny. The second one is funny, and I like Crocs.

I loved the original article, and it served it's purpose of lightening the mood on a dull Friday. I cannot believe that people reacted so strongly to it. Get a life people; it's tongue in cheek. I agree that it might not be best to teach your son to characterize people as such, but, I told my husband it was TOTALLY something I could see happening with him and my son. These things are rubber or plastic shoes people.... The reader you cited last got it right.. It is not about the shoes really at all; it's just about life here. Sharing how we see the world is something that makes us unique. Keep doing it. And, I'll be watching for more from you now. Guess it backfired for the people who were complaining!

Holy crap! I cannot believe so many people got so bent out of shape over a bunch of stupid (that's right, stupid) shoes! Lighten up, America! Because of a generally spiteful nature, I find it deliciously ironic that all the negative press that so very many felt the need to generate in the defense of their footwear only served to boost you into a state of near-tenure. Serves them right for wasting perfectly good angst on such a retarded forum. It's equally ironic that so many people accused you of wasting time writing about something as frivolous as ugly shoes when there are so many bigger things taking place in society today, when they, too, could have used their time and energy protesting something of worth. For the record, I have to give the creator of crocs some credit, as I'm sure he/she is living pretty well on the fortune those "shoes" are generating, but you'll never catch a pair on my feet; I'd rather chew on broken glass.

I can't believe people would get this worked up over a story about some of the ugliest shoes, although I've heard they are comfortable, in history. With so much going on in the country, BTW have all of you that decided to send death threats to a reporter that wrote about "shoes" noticed that gas prices go up and down by not a penny or two but anywhere from 6 to 10 cents a day or that there is a war going on in the Middle East, people decide to worry what someone has to say about, and I repeat, some of the ugliest shoes in history! Sad day indeed! Keep writing your column that entertains and let the sad individuals that have nothing more to worry about other than the fact that you, and many others, deem their shoes as hideous!

I read his last article as well. It was extremely sarcastic humor (and so hilarious), which is the kind of humor more and more Americans are allowing themselves to be offended to for some reason. You don't want me to take offense to your comments and jokes, don't take such offense to mine! Apparently when a man says he's influencing his kid to point out the tackiness of crocs it's counted as a criminally minded action. Oh dear Lord, then if that's the case, we need to call the cops on the parents who give their kids McDonald's every night because they're too lazy to cook. Or how about the parents who teach their kids politics? To tell their kids what side is right and what side is wrong? Shouldn't they get locked up too because they're playing a game of "The Better Butter Battle"? Look up Dr.Seuss books if you don't understand the reference to that one. Great job Steve! I enjoy reading articles from authors who are not afraid of what society will think of them or trying to please the masses! Keep up the good work, and keep on "Offending" us with your writing!

Loved the first article. Find it sad that people overreact so much, but it made for a funny follow-up. I get your writing entirely, and it cranks me up. Lighten up people- it's tongue in cheek! It did serve the purpose of lightening my Friday and making me laugh out loud. The person you cited last gets it though. Croc-wearer or not, it is still funny even when facing such tough personal times. WTG!

When I first saw crocs I dnew there was something unattractive about them. I wouldn't wear them. I noticed the people that do are usually obese sloppy men and women, in loose messy clothes. Do they wear ugly shoues because they think it is a fashion statement?

This article is just what the world needs; a little bit of humor with a touch of sarcasm in the middle of a stressful week. Thanks for the chuckle.

I thought the orginal article was right on the money, Crocs are hideous and should only come in kids sizes because for children they're practicle (and no, my daughter doesn't own a pair). This article made me laugh out loud several times even if it may be because I'm still a little drunk from last night. I'm sure you're just as funny when the reader is sober.

Being from England I am accutely aware of America's idiotic stance on many issues but to rant about what amount to condoms for your feet is a new low. Don't all these people now about the precious thing called the constitution? I think free speach might be somewhere in there but what would I know, I still haven't forgiven you all for the waste of all that tea.

Please continue to write about whatever you see fit, I've always had a deep hatred for Boston Terriers, try something like that.

When I read your first article, I thought to myself, why am I reading this, I have work to do. I am not a croc wearer, but I have secretly considered it. I just couldn't bring myself to walk around in "Bozo shoes". Anyway, I wondered why you were making such a big deal over some silly shoes, and why you were encouraging your son to be cruel and a bully, which I am still struggling with, but I think with this second article, you have redeemed yourself. Sometimes we don't realize how we tough other people's lives, good or bad. If you can brighten the day of mother who has lost a child, then I say, "You go, Dude!" and "More power!". Just try to teach your son to be kind to all those dorks, idoits, ranters, etc... They have feelings too. God Bless.

You can attribute the avalanche of heated comments to the Internet and blogging. We now have an army of mental toddlers who would not publicly pee in the pool but can't wait to do the same online with the biggest audience available. You handled them perfectly, let them rant and let us laugh at the biggest losers.

personally i loved the article and i have stated since the first day i saw those dreadful "shoes" that the only thing they would be good for would be starting a bonfire. they are positively hideous! with that said, your first article made me laugh out loud and i proceeded to email that article to pretty much everyone i know.

  • Posted By: prairie_wind @ 08/21/2008 8:18:54 AM

i have to admit that i do wear crocs... but i also love good humor. this article made me laugh and i thought it was very good writing. i think i will start reading other articles by this author.

Keep doing what you are doing! In this world of violence, hatred, rascism, lewdness and darkness, it is great to have a glimmer of light and a chuckle or two. Remember in America, it is your right to say what you feel, live like you want and buy cheap foreign imports like Croc's and Croc knock-offs from your local discount store. America, wake up, stop bitching and start living again!!!!!

  • Posted By: prairie_wind @ 08/21/2008 8:17:16 AM

as for me, i love my crocs... but i appreciate good humor even more. i highly enjoyed reading this piece and i am pretty sure i will start reading other articles by the author also.
